Egyptian Angel

Having finally gotten my hands on full bottles of both Egyptian Angel and Straight to Heaven in addition to a sample of Ursa, I thought it useful to come back and share some personal insights on how they compare. Let it first be known, I really like all three, though in different ways. They are definitely much more similar than they are different - so much so that one could easily conflate the three. But, they are different enough to notice some clear differences. Opening: - Ursa - Strong essence of decomposing redwood and/or cedar. So much so that it takes on an almost fecal quality. Alarmingly not in so much of a bad way, just very... organic? Big punch. Almost too big. - EA - Bright woodsy notes, still with that decomposing redwood twang, but picked up by a fresher layer of something in between cedar and a generic wood note. I also immediately pick up a bit of nutmeg very early on, compared with the other two. Moderate punch, a bit of alcohol there, too. - STH - Kind of right smack in the middle of the other two, less decomposed than Ursa, but lacking some of that top end brightness I get out of EA. No nutmeg yet. Big, balanced punch. Winner: Draw, between EA and STH. Love the openings of both. Ursa was a bit too challenging IMO. Mid/Base: I have to wait on this a bit, in fairness. They do cross over very similar territory, with much less variation. But again, I think so far this has to go to STH. Good punch in the mid notes, great balance. Both STH and EA feature that full range of dried fruit, dark rum and nutmeg against a progressively smoothing cedar/patch backbone -- this is the very essence of why we love this stuff. Ursa is close behind, but again I think that feature note is just a bit overmodulated for my preference. Winner: STH Longevity: This is where STH really breaks my heart, but the others come through much more. Of the three, STH really fizzles out earliest. EA is a bit hit and miss, but I get a good 4-6 hours out of it, whereas more like 3-4 with STH. But that may change with time and repetition. As for Ursa - that juice just goes on and on for me. Not as "nice" as the other two, but wow, potent. Lasts closer to 6-8 for me in limited testing. But again, time may force me to adjust my numbers. Winner : Ursa Overall, I find STH and EA to be absolute joys to wear while they last. Ursa is hands-down the longest lasting of the three, but is a bit less versatile due to that photo-realistic rotting log thing that I find to be just a bit too dominant in the early going. All three are IMO absolutely bottle-worthy, assuming you appreciate this style as I do. Layering any of these seems very promising. To date I've tried throwing this over something like Tuxedo (or Alexandria's excellent dupe, Black Tie Affair) or Gucci Pour Homme II (a personal fave) to excellent effect. All in all, these are all really excellent fragrances, either layered or on their own.

I have both Egyptian Angel and Straight To Heaven. I sprayed EA on one arm and STH on the other and they are both similar smelling. In fact, there are only minute differences. In the drydown, you cannot tell these apart aside from the fact that EA has a much longer staying power than STH. Long before STH has vanished, EA is still projecting. I've never sampled STH Extreme, but if that's just STH more stronger, I think this is probably more of a clone of that one than this. Either way, you are not missing anything if you get this over STH.

Lovely scent, but from initial spray through the life of the fragrance... Projection does not go further then 1 1/2 inches away from the skin. Very disappointing due to the scent being extremely pleasant. It does last though just very faint. Edit: After this fragrance has settled for a few months I decided to wear it tonight, and this fragrance is projecting very well so much more then a skin scent now and I can’t be more ecstatic, this fragrance is absolutely lovely.

This is a very nice compliment to Killian's Straight To Heaven. I have sampled STH and it is an amazing juice from start to finish. Egyptian Angel is a fairly close copy/clone/interpretation of STH IMO. Starts very nice with a mix of cedar rum and spiced fruit to my nose with sweetness from vanilla and hint of patchouli. Average projection and sillage. I give this a solid 4 out of 5 stars. For the price this is a WINNER. Enjoy!

This is Alexandria’s version of By Kilian’s Straight to Heaven. StH is one of my favorite fall frags and this fills in for it nicely, allowing me to save my decants for special occasions. The scent is a nice, boozy vanilla and performance is 6-8 hours on my skin. Angel really matches up to Heaven in the dry down where I can barely tell them apart.

This is a nice fragrance that's mainly light cedar, patchouli and some light fruits. The boozy notes are really fleeting and all but gone in the opening. It's no projection monster and it's silage is light. I could wear this as an office scent as I can't see anyone getting offended by it. I get no vanilla. Unfortunately the fragrance itself has no real staying power and requires a respray after 3 hours on my skin. It's only lightly detectable after that. A real shame because the fragrance itself is really nice. Based on performance, I would not purchase again.

straight to heaven is 1 of my favs but the price tag has kept me from getting it so far. along comes egyptian angel. test drove egyptian angel a few times before i pull the trigger..it smells great but hold up, the projection isnt there..daaaam. it smells like sth but the performance isnt there. i may have to start saving for the straight to heaven

Similar-ish to STH, like a distant 4th cousin who identifies as part of the family yet the only thing in common was heritage. Smells of patchouli and rotten cedar wood after a long rain. It doesn't have the lift that STH has. Scent: 7 Projection: 5 Longevity: 8 Value: 8 (inexpensive)

ok I had this on the other day an I was given a big complitment on how sexy and manly this smells I may be getting another bottle of this one

average frag imo.. not bad but not great I get mostly patchouli. good longevity . I will wear for a few weeks and see if my mind change.

I'm basing my review on a sample that I've had for just a week, so take it as is. This isn't a bad scent especially if you like patchouli, as it is very patchouli forward. There's a citrus musk that it opens with but that goes away in about 5-10 mins and you are left with a earthy, and dirty patchouli. Pretty linear, it doesn't expand into other notes, longevity is ok but it doesn't project at all. It becomes pretty much a consistent skin scent for the majority of wear with maybe 6 inches of minimal projection. Again I just got this a week ago so maybe it will mature, but IMO it's pretty underwhelming not only in projection but the scent profile itself is just basically earthy patchouli. Update: Scent becomes a skin scent after 20 mins, either that or I'm going nose blind, but this doesn't happen with their other scents. Save your money.

Cedar explosion. I like the smell of cedar, but I don’t want to smell like it all day. Please know that I love a bunch of AFs offerings, but not this one. It smells like I went into a walk-in cigar humidor. If there are other notes in this, I don’t get them. Goes on with cedar...dries down to cedar...all cedar. Longevity and projection are average. If you love cedar, you could rock this one year round. Pass for me. Just way too linear with cedar note. If you really like cedar, this one could be up your ally.

A lot of notes missing vs STH / STHX. There is an image of STH here, a form of abstraction, an illusory. But when it's smelled and you smell STH or Ursa, the notes to make this whole are simply not there.

Was looking for a clone of Kilian’s Straight to heaven due to the longevity being less than 10 minutes on my skin... i blind bought this one and was so happy when i could not tell the difference between the two, thankfully the longevity is approximately 2 - 4 hours for me with a projection of around 20 cm from my body, enrobing me perfectly without it being too much of a skin scent but not too strong either making it my perfect day to day scent, if i could describe the smell id say it smells like a forest after the rain, or cedar with a bit of rum and a very very light sweetness to it that youd need a telescope to find, its not too present making it, the most present smell is the cedar and that woody/moldy cabin/ petrichor, I will buy the 100ml flask now.

I'm sorry, but if someone feels Straight to Heaven in there, they must be under some kind of autohypnosis. I've been using STH for twenty years, but Egyptian Angel has absolutely nothing to do with this fragrance. It's just a pile of sawdust. No rum, no dried fruit, no vanilla. You feel like you're in some kind of wood processing factory. I was so angry that I threw the perfume in the trash for the first time in my life. If I consider Wasted Moment Inspired By Kilian Apple Brandy (no longer produced) better than the original, then this is definitely the worst perfume.

I'm calling bullshit on the reviewer below me. 6-8 hours? Really? I get 15 minutes of decent projection and then it's a light skin scent after that. Alexandria has some good stuff out, but this is not one of them. It's weak. You've reviewed 10 Alexandria frags in 2 days and nothing else. Stop bullshitting us or we'll continue to call you out.

Wearing this today. Not worried about the reviews saying longevity is trash. I'll just buy the oil type of this scent and layer them. Still cheaper than paying retail for the actual thing. Always enjoyed STH.
