Egyptian King

A stunning scent. It is a surprise to me that it does make me think of vintage Shalimar. It's a rich, powdery oppopanax, slightly smoky scent. Curious as there is no oppopanax listed. I guess it must arise from the powder, amber and smoke combo. I don't get much rose but there is a spicy aspect to this. It starts off with almost a musk backdrop but then the warm resinous oriental surfaces and gradually gets more smoky. It does indeed make me think of mummified Egyptian kings. Their bodies preserved with various resins and oils. A bit sinister but it was a glamorous age. It's a luscious scent with good longevity and sillage. Its a cold weather scent or one for evening as this is potent juice. Perfectly unisex. So pleased to have this in my collection.

Spicy amber bomb. Really strong and luxurious. 1 spray to the chest is all you need and you will have a scent cloud all day. Get it on your clothes and expect to smell it all week. Its not necessarily masculine as there are similarly scented lotions for women out there, but not this long lasting or enveloping. It comes off really warm and rich and is a great addition to any cold weather line up. You're making a commitment wearing this as it does last all day. I don't get any smoke or rose really and though you know it has powdery notes in it, it doesn't feel powdery as that spice and amber keep it warm. Really great stuff and bang for your buck.

Spicy, sweet, aromatic, masculine. This juice BLASTS off my skin. No other scents I have leaves a scent cloud quite like this one. You feel like royalty when wearing this. If you don't like to be noticed, don't wear this. Men will want to be you and women will want to be next to you. It's I smell the amber, but there's a sweet gourmandish quality to it as well. But the spiciness is what makes it so masculine. One of my faves from this house and it's an original on top that. 9 out of 10.

I received a sample today with Emerald Street. This fragrance is WOW! I smelled it and it is VERY ambery and powedery. I can see how that can be seductive. I have not worn this one yet! But smelling the trigger alone, is sexy! I get a Amber Sultan vibe from Serge Lutens, but Egyptian King is a lot better in terms of quality, and it really is just the opening that is similar. I will have to try this one out very soon!

Egyptian King is a "perfect" oriental, harking back to the glory days of the 80s. Although it doesn't smell like Opium, Cinnabar or Youth Dew, these are the "types" of perfume which come to my mind, when wearing Egyptian King. Wear in cooler weather and rejoice in its spicy glory. If anyone had any doubts about Hany's talent as an original perfumer, this dispels them. Just stunning.

A very very beautiful old school powdery amber that reminds me of quite a few of the older perfumes. It's makes me think if Shalimar edp by guerlain and Oppoponax by Les Nereides had a baby who grew up unique but equally as beautiful. A+

Warning: if you dislike powdery, spicy, or ambery scents, then this definitely ain't going to be for you! Now we've got that out of the way, the first thing to say is that this scent is not subtle in the slightest, and it lasts and lasts and lasts (and lasts). The initial spray is an explosion of an array of spices, which I'm fairly sure includes (but isn't limited to) pepper, chilli, cinnamon, turmeric, cumin, saffron and ginger. As you can imagine, this combination is dry and dusty and not for the faint of heart. They seem to leap of the skin in much the same way the aromas of a korahi curry leap off a sizzling cast iron skillet. Mingled with these spices is a slightly creamy, slightly sour powder accord which is, as someone has rightly pointed out below, akin to baby powder. This acts as both a coubterbalancing sweetening contrast to the spices as well as a complimentary note, helping to propel and maintain the spiciness long after it should have abdicated its olfactory throne whilst somehow also curbing its initial excess. As the scent settles, the powder becomes much more prominent and the spices seem to be somehow dissolved in it, occasionally coming to the fore but always within the surrounding powdery presence. This is the state of affairs for the next hour or so, and is the stage which is most likely to be divisive, with a shifting, shimmering effect of different notes popping up from the blend, before diving back into the mix. After about an hour of this though, it begins to alter again. What comes through next is a truly beautiful amber accord, not unlike that of MFK's Grand Soir. It has doubtless been there all along, underpinning everything and latching it to the skin, but as the powdery layers peel off it starts to radiate through, adding a warm, sweet, gooey richness that gradually grows and mingles with the powdery mid notes. This is how the fragrance now remains until the end of the dry down, with the powdery notes slowly sinking into the thick amberiness but never fully disappearing altogether until the fragrance has worn off, a process which in my case took in excess of 18 hours (I eventually washed the skin scent off in my morning shower). So there you have it. It's definitely not going to be for everyone, especially in the heavy baby powder phase, and if you dislike it then you'll probably really dislike it, but if you enjoy it (or love it) then you'll get an awful lot out of this fragrance, and find it of a quality that belies the already very good price.

appears to me as gourmand interpretation of amber - the play of the notes add up to a slightly powdery, marzipaned blend. some spices and incense may add some support but smells a bit like almond cake drenched in honey...or baklava if you will :) enjoyable for any sweets or gourmey lover as I see it, those who like serge lutens ambre sultan or arabie, may find this particularly appealing

Definitely has wow factor and I rarely get that anymore! Powdery incensey spicy almost gourmand for me. Maybe nougat or halwa. Does transform you to Cairo's markets. Loving this!

Powdery, woody, slightly incensed amber that kind of makes me think of what an ancient musty church or library might smell like. It's a very wood-heavy fragrance but it's not masculine at all. There's no ambroxan or anything that would push it into manly territory. There is a smidge of rose petal that blends with the powder and kind of gives this fragrance its baby powder-esque facets. I think i'd enjoy it more with less powder and more spice. Suitable for winter months. Totally unisex, but you have to enjoy powdery scents to dig this.

So I wore this to work 2 days in a row,the same shirt BTW and this is not for the faint of heart. The 1stday I went with 6 sprays which was overkill. It's rich,regal and relentless. It jabs you in the face like Scottie Pippen would do Mugsy Bogues in a boxing match. The reviewer below sums it up the best and as others have mentioned it is a bit old school. The spiciness is too much for me so it def will not be a purchase for me.

First dislike for me from Alexandria. While it's not a strong hate/ dislike, it's definitely not a like. While the opening is very decent, the dry down to the baby powder is not for me. 15 minutes in and it smells exactly like baby powder.

I bought this for myself but wound up giving it to my husband because it smelled better on him. We have the bottle with the tall black cap. I just purchased another one for him because he only had a few mils left and even though it now says extract on the label - our's doesn't have any strength written on the label - it is not the same. Doesn't smell as good, doesn't have the same silage, or longevity. Nice, but it seems to be missing a lot of the bells and whistles it had before that really made it outstanding. Now, it is just okay, sort of generic, and I no longer have the impulse to nibble his neck. I don't know why they changed the formula. Maybe it is because of recent regulations or maybe they're trying to save some money, but whatever the reason it has changed and I am not very happy about it.

My 6th Alexandria. Big, ambery, oriental and boozy. The "sweet" in here compliments the "spice". Has the vibe of an Amouage or a Serge Lutens. Longevity is good.
