Malibu Beach

The rugged twin brother of Beach Hut Man, Malibu Beach is an inexpensive and easy alternative. The projection, longevity, and sillage are all comparable to Beach Hut. The main difference is the strength of the mint in Beach Hut making it the prominent note, with the result in a more refined, smoother composition, while Malibu Beach's ruggedness comes from the prominent blend of vetiver and ivy. Beach Hut is the man who chose to live in a beach hut whereas Malibu Beach is the man who ended up in a beach hut. This is dry and green. You might could describe it as the irresponsible son of RL Polo Green (70's and 80's formulation) that ended up in his hut after what seemed to be many poor decisions, but really just led him to a perfect little undeveloped spot near the ocean. Speaking of ocean, there isn't any in either version - no seaweed, no salty air, no tropical references. It's as if you're standing at the edge of the sand near sea grapes facing the opening of the beach hut. When I wear Malibu Beach, I usually layer it with Tom Ford's Fougere Platine or Fougere D'Argent to tame it and add what I think is the sun warmed wood of a beach access and sea grape plants that adds depth. After finally getting to smell Beach Hut Man at a store, I liked it enough to buy a full bottle at nearly 75% off retail. If you are looking for an inexpensive (but not cheap) "interpretation" of Beach Hut Man, then Malibu Beach is fully up to the task of providing the feel and imagination of a beach hut. Malibu Beach is no slouch as it is as potent as they come. 1 or 2 sprays is enough to project for a good 8-12 hours. It's an excellent purchase.

Very close to Beach Hut Man, but as with most AF fragrances, the opening is quite brutal. It's a green ivy fest, a sap-like bitter green note that begs the wearer to seriously question the name"Malibu Beach" for this scent. No, this is not a California beach with all of its associations. This would be the beach somewhere in Papua New Guinea, uninhabited, where man has never set foot, dense humid jungle foliage reaching all the way to the sandy shore. Probably some head hunters waiting in the forest to "have you over for dinner." If you love green fragrances that venture off the beaten path of contemporary perfume trends, this is worthy to try. The dry down finds the jungle tamed, the beach hut constructed, the man chilling in the hammock as creamy smooth wafts of vegetation and sea air surrounding him, having made friends with the locals, as they drink some mildly alcoholic guava and human spittle cocktail. I know, I know, it's just perfume. But why else come to this site if not to read overwrought fragrance descriptions? I really like this one- something different and appealing.

Amazing clone! Identical in sillage to Beach Hut Man. The opening has slightly more of this beautiful banana-like smell, but the dry down is 98% similar. The only real difference is sliiiiiightly less mint which makes it sliiiiiiiiiiightly less soapy-fresh. Longevity is gr8 for a summer scent. 9/10

This is a good one if you like woody, green, slight powdery. I’ve tried the OG and these are basically identical on dry down with AF having a little better performance to me. I’d give it a good 7.5/10.

This fragrance is amazing. A great inspiration of Beach Hut Man by Amouage. For the price this is a no brainer. This fragrance has garnered me a lot of compliments.

This is an interesting one. Minty, woody green fragrance, the ivy is really pronounced here. The smell would be more suitable for a shower gel than a perfume scent. Weird but interesting to try.

To me it smells like a higher quality brut after shave with a heavy note of ivy. Smells very green and definitely masculine. Age 35+

Malibu Beach is a wonderful blend of mint and vetiver. It is a more masculine scent, and I would not call it a “mass appealing beach fragrance.” It has both depth and longevity. The dry down is inviting and intimate.

I wish Fragrantica would correct the misspelling of "myrrh". It's beastly to see "myrhh" on a perfume site.
