Vanille Doree

Rich, thick, warm, creamy...it’s gorgeous. It is not too sweet, being tempered by the woods, spices, and incense. I love it. The first spray is exactly buttercream frosting, but don’t let that scare you off. It dries down quickly into a much more nuanced, adult scent. I blind bought this and have absolutely no regrets. Edited to add: It does dry down to a lovely powdery vanilla. It feels completely modern to my nose, although you can tell the inspiration is definitely Guerlain.

I love this. Rich, buttery, sweet, smokey vanilla.... really reminds me so much of Commodity Gold! I love them both, although longevity on me isn't great for either one.

So, I'm still on a quest to find a lovely, creamy, warm, billowy, AFFORDABLE, vanilla-centric fragrance I can liberally apply at bedtime. I find when I apply certain fragrances at nighttime, I sleep better. Aromatherapy, I suppose. As an aside, I've been in love with Italica, Lira, Bianco Latte, Fire At Will, Acqua e Zucchero and Gioiosa. Vanilla Doree is VERY much like Spiritueuse Double Vanille, or Vanilla Sex, or Kayali Vanilla 28 in that it's EXTREMELY boozy, with opening notes that are a bit harsh and shrill. The opening is strong boozy-rum-brandy with resinous and woody notes quickly evident as the fragrance develops. Of course, vanilla is present but it's more the "vanilla extract" type of vanilla (versus a sweeter, more edible, lactonic, gourmand type vanilla). For the price, VD it's a pretty favorable blind buy. But I'm not sure Vanille Doree is a fragrance I would ever seek out on a regular basis. Would prefer smelling this on a man.

Opens a bit too strong but settles into a smooth scent. I really enjoy how the pink pepper makes this a fresh vanilla fragrance that stays spicy throughout the wear. Within the first 30min the florals have calmed down a great deal while the vanilla grows fluffy. I find this more powdery than creamy but it's still silky in my skin. I cannot detect the ylang-ylang (thank goodness), but enjoy the jasmine even though there is more rose in here than I normally prefer. I don't find the bergamot at all, not a citrus note to be found. I do get a hint of incense but as a smoke lover, I find none. So, I can't pick out half the scent story, which probably speaks to how well this is blended. I have a large unisex gourmand collection and this fits in perfectly. Sweetly clean, inoffensive, and uncommon, make this a hat trick in my book. I just ordered a 10ml sprayer of this. Will post a review once it arrives. (REVIEW) Well...not at all what I expected. This fragrance has no projection and is pretty much a skin-scent. I'm thankful that I only ordered a 10ml sampler and not a full bottle. I like my vanillas much MUCH more powerful than this. The scent itself is wonderful...but it's just not strong enough for me. Great for going to bed...not so good for going outside. I will use all of it, but I will not buy a full bottle of this. EDIT: Now I know what this reminds me of...a weaker version of my "Jimmy Choo - Vanilla Love" !!!!! After going through my entire vanilla collection, samples, decant vials from past purchases...I found exactly what this smells like...one of my favorites if not THE favorite vanilla of mine. But this "Vanille Doree" is markedly weaker than my love.

I have this and SDV. The opening of this is NOTHING like SDV but in the dry down it is very similar. I’d say 85% It’s a not too sweet vanilla with some smokiness. I feel vanille doree (VD) is ever so slightly more Smokey. SDV is blended better. Smells more expensive But the projection is louder on Alexandria fragrance which is why i reach for it more. I appreciate them both

Starts off with boozy tobacco floral notes and very little vanilla, then after 30 minutes the drydown starts to smell like a slightly sweeter and brighter version of Spiritueuse Double Vanille. Definitely not an exact dupe of SDV, but a pretty fragrance with some similar DNA

As a inspired/dupe/clone of SDV it is not really close, the opening of Doree has vegetal note of tea leaves or even slightly green like Angelique Noire but less powdery, much less in incense, booze and spice. While they do share similar notes, especially in the mid and drydown I would consider it a significant deviation of the original. If SDV is down the middle unisex, this one ends up leaning slight feminine because of the opening differences. Don't get me wrong it not a bad fragrance, in fact as an owner of SDV and Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21 this punches way above it's price point and an excellent alternative or casual easy spray for colder weather/evenings. Not the best longevity or sillage but neither was the original.

This is the first Alexandria frag that doesn't totally fascinate and agree with me. I'm assuming it's the ylang-ylang dominance. The frag's name being loosely translated to golden vanilla does accurately reflect the warm, bright, yellow-y vibe. It's not bad, per se, just doesn't suit me the way Alexandria's Fatal de Vanille hits the spot.

I got this one because fragrantica users said it reminds them of Perry Ellis Black Vanilla Absolute (BAV), which is one of my favorite fragrances of all time. Sadly, BAV is discontinued and prices are getting stupid so I'll need to find something else. I was excited that a substitute may be out now and ordered a small bottle. In short, for me, Vanilla Doree is just not a close enough substitute for BAV. Vanilla Doree does indeed remind me of BAV on very first sniff but as soon as the background notes show up (seconds later) I could tell a big difference between the two. BAV is backed up by tobacco, amber, and a whiff of oud while this is backed up by floral notes. That tobacco note, amber, and touch of oud in BAV is what made it unique, to me, and they were important notes as it kept it from leaning too feminine for my tastes. While the floral notes in Vanilla Doree (from here on out, VD... pfft, ha!) aren't so strong that the fragrance comes across as outright feminine, they do take the fragrance from sitting as firmly unisex like BAV and moves the needle over towards feminine...in my opinion. However, both VD and BAV do share in common a powerful, rich vanilla note that's not candy sweet. In both, vanilla is the star of the show. Smells great, projects well, and lasts a good, long time. Does smell like BAV on first sniff but then VD's floral notes make it distinctly different from BAV. Again, the reason for my purchase of VD was to replace BAV and that's why my review is so focused on BAV and relatively narrow in scope. I'll keep looking for a BAV replacement. Nice? Absolutely, and quality seems very good. The right person/audience will really enjoy this one. 4.5/5 because it does smell dang good but just not what I was hoping for it to be, BAV. Actually, this reminds me of his and her fragrance sets with BAV being more masculine and VD being it's feminine counterpart.

This is a really nice perfume. Its top notes are similar to Double Vanille, but it does not develop as much, into that creamy, nice vanilla scent like Guerlain does. This does remind me of my Boucheron Vanille de Zanzibar-by no means the same scent but similar class of mature, smooth vanilla notes, lasting all day, too! I ordered a sample spritzer of this and had to order a FB! I highly recommend if you like vanilla!!! One spritz under clothing and I get whiffs of this all day. Update: I received my FB from Alexandria Fragrances and I have to add-the packaging is very nice and expensive looking. I like that! The perfume came in a very sturdy and well designed box for a niche type company, I wasn't expecting this! And the perfume--smells absolutely wonderful!!! Ordered on a Friday, received on a Monday--this was also impressive! I will definitely consider ordering again from this company. Another interesting observation--my sample vial of this scent smells cakey at initial application, but the FB does have a tobacco scent about it....I notice others mentioned the tobacco scent on this...not me, until I used the FB. Basenotes are the same though on both! Update #2: I recently gave Perry Ellis's OUD Black Vanilla Absolute a try and wow--this is the most similar comparison I can make of Vanille Doree. It is very similar to me.

Scent wise this is really nice and I am not usually into vanilla focused fragrances. I've never tried the original so this is a standalone review. Soft vanilla with faint citrus, spices and musk, unisex with a fem lean. Projection is intimate, even in the opening. This seems more like a scent bubble, and reading the comments on the original it seems the original performs similarly, but this is 1/6th the price.

I concur with Nuitdenoel’s review, however, this starts very tobacco-ey on me. It smells just like pipe smoke! But the drydown is the best, most amazing part. I love it. Sadly, it just does not last on me, and the projection isn’t as massive as other Alexandria scents. I’d even go so far to call it a skin scent. I definitely wish it were much stronger so I could enjoy it more.

SDV has more incense and better longevity, nonetheless Vanilla Doree is still a really beautiful fragrance. It's not an exact dupe, but it is very similar, and I find the scent just as lovely. Vanilla Doree leans more feminine than SDV. While Vanilla Doree only lasted around 4 hrs. on my skin, when I sprayed it in my hair it lasted until I washed it 2 days later.

Haven't ever tried SDV so can't and won't compare. Out of 4 Alexandria samples, Vanille Doree was my least favourite initially, but I must admit it grew on me. There's something understated but sophisticated about it, that being said to me it smells like vanilla scented chalk sticks (that you draw on concrete with). In a good way though!

This is not at all what spirituese double vanille smells like I got nothing than a overly sweet thick almost sour caramel smell and maybe just the faintest hint of smoke mostly a big thick glob Cloying Carmel not even vanilla. I had hope hopes now they are crushed I do know the original this drag is inspired by too.

Opens with creamy smooth vanilla that makes me think almost of ice cream. Kind of femme leaning to my nose. I don't own SDV but this doesn't seem like it's an accurate clone of it. If you're looking for a smooth, creamy, feminine vanilla you will like this one.

Fairly linear warm powdery vanilla fragrance with very good sillage.
