Arabian Desert

I try to avoid preconceptions, but the name Arabian Desert gave me visions of an inexpensive version of Tauer's magnificent L'aire de Desert Marocaine. This isn't that, but it has some commonalities that make this a nice experience. Where LADDM is the desert as seen by Lawrence of Arabia, AD is the desert remembered by a 19th Century British imperialist 30 years later in his London sitting room. A smooth amber accented with powdery lavender, cashmeran and saffron gets this started. At 45 minutes, a healthy dose of patchouli and some incense have pushed aside the lavender and saffron. This is usually where rose would elbow its way to the top, but other than a bit of tone, it is undetectable. The jasmine, however, peeks its head up every now and again, not as a strong white floral note but rather as something that brightens the amber and patchouli. The scent doesn't evolve much past this point, other than hints of fougeric notes, which is unsurprising since this contains all of the classic fougere notes (bergamot, lavender, rose/geranium, and coumarin). Of course, amber and patchouli are in loads of fragrances, but the incense and other uncredited elements shape these very differently from the LNDLHs, Halloween Mans and Wanted By Nights of the world. There is a density and silkiness here, along with just a smidge of middle eastern mystery, that elevates this. By now you are thinking "this fanboy is obviously going to buy a bottle of this", but that isn't actually the case. This is quite good, but I'm becoming very choosy as my collection becomes unwieldy, and if I want a desert fragrance, LADDM is going to be it. I will keep my generous decant of this, and will probably re-up for another 10ml if and when I use this up. If YOU don't have any desert fragrances, however, grab yourself a decant of this juice. I think you will like it.

#423 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Dunhill Arabian Desert is an oriental done right. Ambery, oudy, but warm and inviting, not sweet and nose-hair singeing. Spicy, but like a nice tea. Smoky and rosey, but just hints. This lasts a good five hours and projects an hour, which is better than the Dunhiill EDTs by a lot. So don't overdo it. Over-sprayed this will force the folks in the carpool to roll their windows down, drive people out of the elevator before they reach their floor, make the folks in the office fire up their air filters. It's fine if you spray conservatively. Try a single spritz at first. This is not a casual scent, or a warm weather scent. Definitely not a club scent in the Western hemisphere. A hint of this scent will be attractive to a date, appropriate for formal wear, an overspray would be off-putting. I think it's a reasonably priced safe buy for a man, much more daring for a woman. I'm ordering the rest of the "Signature" line the first of the year. If the others are even close to this good they're a bargain. But this one is not for the kiddies. On a twenty-something this would seem laughably pretentious, like you borrowed your dad's cologne. It's not outright grandad juice, but forties and up I think. It's the sort of scent that needs to be earned with experience and accomplishment.

This one is far more elegant, well blended, and sophisticated than a lot of overhyped fragrances that sell the label and not the actual fragrance, hmmm, lv, hmm. This one, Egyptian Smoke, and Indian Sandalwood are the best, followed closely by Amalfi Citrus and Agar Wood. I have backup bottles of the others and will get one backup for this one too. There a is a Montale, called Oud Edition, that is very close to this one, but also this has some resemblance to Gucci Intense Oud. All these don't have a funky oud note, and they're extremely smooth. This has become my favorite from Dunhill.

I'm wearing this today. A bit soft in term of projection but the longevity is good. Huge love for this one. Pleasant, mood uplifter, semi aromatic and semi spicy. The smoky ambience is exists but not as massive smokiness like others in my collection. I get the hint of rose and its not dominant at all.I don't really get the bergamot. If you like woodsy sensation, then you gonna love this. I'm planning to overspray this during my other day perfume rotation, feeling like want to experience the cloud surrounding me.

A bottled amber treat. It starts beautiful but it get even better at the dry down. Rich, dark, warm incense/amber with a soft & luxurious saffron note. For a moment I thought there was orange here as well as there is a very mild orangish zest but that could the bergamot giving that. It gets a little powdery at the dry down but that is what amber do. It's soft, charming, & mature. I really like it I haven't smelled amber this good since I tried Adnan B. Ambre Noir a few months back. "Love"

I got decants of Arabian Desert, Egyptian Smoke, and Moroccan Amber and this was hands down the winner - the one of the three I'd like a bottle of. The other two only lasted a couple of hours at best. This one lasted longer and had a better dry down on skin and clothes. The oud and incense base notes hang around nicely and for only $60 at discounters it's a good buy. None of the other notes - rose, saffron, pepper overpower. Nicely balanced. Recommend.

This is a more affordable version of PDM Habdan. It is a little smoother and sweeter, but overall this really nails that scent profile and at an affordable price. This whole line is just incredible. They could sell for twice the price under a different brand.

Smells good!! Reminds me of Bond No9 NY Oud but less sweet. A very careful ptesentation. Not too arabic, quite wearable for occasions. Lasting but projection is moderate. Expecting better projection since this is a higher range. Very good but not unique.

Don't know why but i absolutely love arabian desert's fragrance . definitely it's high quality i couldn't stop myself from sniffing my arm whole day after applying it

This is high quality. This is amber and incense mixed in perfection. It lasts 12+ hours and projects like a beast. Worth easily 100 bucks.

This is a nice spicy woody, ambery fragrance. I also perceive a tea note hidden in the background even though it’s not listed

Like it's name...Desert just should wear in winter, fall and just for night. It is warm, spicy, sweet and very very softly.

It lasts forever, and smells like private line. High quality of saffron, incense and rose.

Beautiful, rounded oud fragrance

Smells good, interesting opening where you get a blast of all the listed notes: Pink pepper, saffron, jasmine, slight rose backed by a smokey, ambery, slighty oudy/woody base, dries down into a less unique rose + oud smokey amber fragrance that I dislike more than the opening. If you dislike rose then you will probably dislike this fragrance, also I did not get any bergamont at any point when smelling this. Wouldn't wear this personally but could smell great on the right person, which when I smell this I imagine someone 35-40+ years old. Would work best in the fall and winter. Projects great at first for maybe 45min-1 hour but dissipates rather quickly and last only about 5-6 hours. Avoid overspraying, some could find it harsh, especially within the first hour. Overall it's a mature dry desert like spicy smokey amber with a touch of rose scent that dries down into a smokey rose heavy scent, so if that sounds appealing to you I would recommend

nice subtle oud fragrance with saffron,smoke and pepper. it doesnt scream and jump outta your skin.but longevity is very decent.not totally unique but what lovely presentation, its a try...not a must buy 7/10

I really like the Oud in this one, it has a touch of chocolate cake to it. Sweet and approachable. If you want a starter Oud fragrance try this(sweet), Varvatos Oud(animalistic) or Versace Oud Noir(woody).

Opens with a creamy vanilla scent and is soon joined by spices. It dries down to a soft, warm, woody rose scent. Not the best fragrance in the world, but it's pleasant.

Nice blend & quality. not very niche but still nice & wearable. Performance is decent. Longevity 7-8 hours with average projection.

Nice amber fragrance, no harsh from oud note or too strong rose, better than Indian Sandalwood, but no better than Egyptian Smoke.

I bought this awhile ago when exploring “Desert” profiles. I enjoy the artistry of these profiles more than the actual scents. This is the same as others to a degree, but really well blended into a mature scent. Amber, Oud, and Incense stand out. I get some rose, but very light, and the saffron is not the sweet candied variety I get from some other scents in a similar family. I wear these scents at home for myself, I just don’t really find them something I am that into. Signature type scent for cool weather? Sure, but I think your style needs to be on point at all times, this is a serious money kind of scent IMO. I don’t see me reaching for this, I was lucky and got it on sale, but it was still pricey at that. This is a classy scent, but you can get better more versatile ones cheaper. I think this scent is very well done, pushing niche quality, but not really a people pleaser so I can’t recommend this. Happy 2025 friends, maybe we will see some Phoenix Accoutrements on here this year.

It's nice... That's all I can think of... nice... pleasant... won't offend anyone. Arabian Desert starts really promising and robust, but after an hour it dissipates into this generic fluffy pretend middle eastern potpourri that I have smelled many many many times before. Somewhat sweet, somewhat ambery, somewhat smoky. Every "arabic" and "desert" olfactory trope has been checked. I wouldn't mind it as a candle though.

Very generic and forgettable frag similar to Boss Collection Damask Oud. TBH, DO is a more interesting and better quality fragrance imo. Longevity is not there and silage is very subtle. Now that you can buy it for $50 it might be ok but I would go with a much higher quality fragrance for the price like Chopard Oud Malaki instead.

Smells good, nothing special, the name arabian dunhill gives you a vibe thats its going to be one of those strong woody oud scented perfumes but its not that strong (i say this as an arab), unfortunately performance is very weak , does not last and sillage is weak

Sniffer 65, I too was hoping for a Tauer dupe as I love that scent. I agree, this one is well done and not “candied” as some saffron scents can be. Really solid offering, which Dunhill often does, but not a must have IMO.

Of the Signature Collection I've tried so far, Arabian Desert is the only one I dislike. The opening is quite nice - citrusy and spicy. That didn't last very long. Arabian Desert quickly dried down to a very smooth but synthetic, play doughy type of scent. I noticed something similar, but much subdued in Boss Bottled Elixir that made me dislike it. With Arabian Desert, however, that's all there is. Not an expert, but I'm guessing it must be the smooth, creamy and synthetic combo of oud, amber and incense. Whatever it is, I don't like it. Arabian Desert's performance is pretty average. I expected better. Will pass on this one.

Very weak, not able to survive even 5 hours in Dubai winters. Scent profile is very beautiful, it has pure middle eastern Oud vibes along with saffron and amber. Rose is beautifully blended in such a way that still perfume profile leans toward masculine side. But sadly fragrance fades away very quick. I mean what is the point if a scent doesn't stay even it has good characters? Chopard Black incense Malaki takes the lead in this genre. Scent: 7/10 Performance: 3/10 Value for money: 5/10

Another peppery/saffrony rose + cypriol fragrance (sold as rose/oud). Nothing new nor worth of special attention here. Designer level deja-vu at niche pricing? Yes, but no thank you! Hard pass for me. Colder weather, 30+

Where the previous fragrance leaned into a rich interplay of rose, tobacco, and incense, this one suggests a more expansive and radiant take on that same warmth, built around spice, florals, and deep resins that feel both traditional and transportive. The name alone evokes endless dunes, dry desert air, and the glow of amber under a setting sun, creating the expectation of something bold, exotic, and enveloping rather than restrained or airy. Let’s see if this one rises from the sands with a commanding presence or fades like a desert mirage once it hits the skin. Opening: The opening is balsamic, woody, and smoky. The primary notes I get are amber, oud, incense, and saffron, with the amber and oud leading. The amber immediately establishes a warm, resinous sweetness, rich and enveloping, reminiscent of the style found in Maison Francis Kurkdjian Grand Soir, though here it feels deeper and more saturated. The oud follows with a woody, earthy presence that carries a subtle animalic edge, not overwhelmingly raw, but still marked by a noticeable barnyard nuance that gives it a more natural character. Incense lingers beneath these notes, dry and smoky, adding a quiet, spiritual, and meditative quality that reinforces the depth of the composition without becoming harsh. Lastly, saffron sits in the background, introducing a warm, slightly leathery spice that enhances the richness and adds a refined, luxurious touch. There are also faint hints of night blooming jasmine, contributing a subtle but sensual creamy white floral nuance, alongside a trace of bergamot that offers just enough brightness to lift the density. The result is a dense and immersive opening where resins, woods, and smoke come together in a rich and enrapturing introduction. Dry Down: The dry down is still balsamic, woody, and smoky. The primary notes I get are amber, oud, incense, and saffron, with the amber and oud continuing to lead. This stage is largely an extension of the opening, making the fragrance feel quite linear in its overall development. The amber maintains its warm, resinous sweetness, while the oud continues to provide that woody, earthy backbone, now with a slightly softened character. The incense remains present as a dry, smoky undertone, reinforcing the meditative, atmospheric quality established early on, while the saffron continues to add a subtle warmth and depth in the background. The main shift here is in texture rather than composition, as the dry down feels smoother, deeper, and more rounded compared to the opening. The animalic facets of the oud are still detectable, but they have been dialed back, making the overall impression feel more cohesive and less sharp. The result is a steady and immersive dry down that stays true to the opening while settling into a more refined and blended finish. Performance: Projection opens strong within the first hour, reaching out to about six feet and establishing a bold, immediate presence. Sillage follows closely, leaving behind an easily noticeable scent trail that reinforces the fragrance’s rich and dense character. After about three to four hours, performance remains largely unchanged, maintaining both its projection and trail with little drop in intensity. As the fragrance moves into the later stages around the seven to eight hour mark, projection softens to about three to four feet, while the scent trail becomes lighter but still clearly perceptible. Around the ten to eleven hour mark, the fragrance transitions into a skin scent, where it sits closer to the body but remains detectable off skin. Overall, this is a strong performer that maintains presence for most of its wear before gradually settling into a more intimate finish. When to Wear: Arabian Desert is best suited for fall and winter, where its dense, resinous warmth and smoky depth are at home in cooler air. It feels most natural in the evening, when its rich and enveloping character aligns with more intimate and elevated settings. This is an excellent choice for special occasions such as date nights or anniversaries, where its opulence can stand out, and it transitions seamlessly into formal wear when applied with restraint. At the same time, there is a cozy, almost comforting quality to the fragrance that makes it suitable for more relaxed, casual wear, particularly when you want something warm and indulgent. However, its overall density and presence make it less appropriate for office settings, where it may come across as too heavy. Blind Buy: Arabian Desert is not a safe blind buy. The oud, particularly in the opening, carries a noticeable animalic edge that may be off-putting to those who are not accustomed to more natural or rugged oud profiles. Additionally, the overall density and richness of the composition give it a heavier presence that will not appeal to everyone. While those who enjoy deep, resinous, and oud-forward fragrances may find it compelling, sampling first is strongly recommended to ensure it aligns with your preferences. Final Verdict: Arabian Desert continues the trend established with Egyptian Smoke of leaning more into a niche-inspired direction, which is a welcome departure from what is typically expected from a more mass-appealing house like Dunhill. While Egyptian Smoke stood out as the most elegant and refined offering in the line, Arabian Desert distinguishes itself as the richest and most opulent. There is a density and fullness here that feels intentional, with each note clearly represented and working together to create a composition that feels both cohesive and commanding. The balance between amber, oud, and incense gives it a depth that remains engaging throughout the wear, without losing clarity. This is the type of fragrance that feels complete in its execution, delivering exactly what its name suggests. For me, this is the standout of the line, and one that I would confidently add to my collection. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 9/10 Versatility: Average Compliment Factor: Average Gender: Unisex, leaning masculine Value: Good

Now this one is very nice indeed and I have been enjoying wearing it this fine day. It opens soft and spicy with pink pepper and saffron with a touch of freshness from the bergamot. Soon after the rose develops and this accord is the star of the show, it's a really lovely bright slightly creamy pink rose. Now in a lot of scents of this type the rose can be very strong and can drown out the other notes. Not so here, the lush rose (and it's lovely) flows and ebbs like the tides of the ocean out of the gentle soft spiciness. So every so often a aroma of a beautiful bright and slightly creamy rose just caresses your senses only to return to the rosy soft spiciness. Now this is what I really like about this scent is that it is really well balanced making it very wearable. The star of the show rose never overwhelms or drowns out the other notes. After three hours and into the basenotes you are left with a very nice rosy soft spiciness that reminds me a little bit of Ambre Nuit but without the powder and with a better rose note. Now onto the so called Oud, it's basically not here and I think I would be shocked if it was from Dunhill. Now I don't know the mind of the creator but I am going to try and guess what she was going for with this note. Now with real oud you would get a cheesy barnyard aroma and then when that dies down you get a creamyness from the Oud that mixes in with the rose. In real Oud and rose combos the use of real oud adds depth to the scent and rounds out the rose accord into something lush smelling. Now here in the basenotes I can smell the slightly creamy effect with the rose, not as great as the real thing but it's there. Of course the animalic aspect has not been replicated, again not with Dunhill. So this is my guess that the creamy aspect with the rose is the creators way of replicating the effect of Oud on the rose. Now the price for what you get is expensive as you can get the same quality for half price ie Royal Potion Black to name one. But all in all it's very lovely and I like it a lot.

I don't quite get what's wrong with synthetic fragrance components if they smell gorgeous, last long and project well? Is it really a matter of taste or just a tendecy to be a perfume snob? There are synthetic fragrance components that smell awfully sythetic and bad yet there are natural components that last for only a short time or/and can be detected only very, very closely. So just because something is synthetic does not mean it's bad. I think good composition, nice smelling, long lasting and acceptable projection what matters.

Smells good but its last rank in this collection, also you can find better choices in this category from other brands, specially with this price. also it's softer than its name, it doesn't remind me a desert.

arabian desert is not bad. actually its a try but not a must buy since there is alot of better rose and oud fragrance out there although its pretty decent for its lovely accords.

I get The Gucci Intense Oud vibe, but a little softer and chewier. If you were to blend Intense Oud with Dunhill Indian Sandalwood, that would be close to Dunhill Arabian Desert.

This gives me Grand Soir vibes. That is a masterpiece and hence this one smells good too. Have to check on the lasting power though.

Nice attempt to make a heavily synthetic fragrance smell expensive. Can't blame those who like it. Our tastes so different :)

Sprayed it once on the wrist and immediately i can pick up the Polo Supreme Oud notes it smells identical start to finish.

Typical Amber, but really well done. Sweet, creamy, robust. Can get subtle dryness, but not Tauer dry.
