Dunhill Pursuit

Having purchased an increasing number of Dunhill fragrances, Icon the most recent, I was looking forward to adding a favorite from my collection. What attracted me to this perfume? Well, Intimately Beckham has been tempting me for a while now, and several reviews compared the similitude to Dunhill Pursuit. Since the notes in common are very few, I wanted to blind buy them both to try this hypothetical similarity on my skin and write my honest thoughts without prejudice of both. I was very impressed when I first tried it, so I couldn't wait to write the review! The horizontally developed minimalist bottle and heavy metal cap with an engraved orange compass are eye-catching for starters. It fits well with the Dunhill design, with its sleek profile. Also, the orange juice inside is beautiful to look at. As the nose behind this cologne is Michel Gerard - perhaps you know him for the most popular 1 Million by Paco Rabanne and other creations - my curiosity increases. In the opening's blast citrus accord, I catch a pronounced note of sparkly yuzu, a zesty fruit that I got aware of thanks to Trussardi Light for Him, and a delightful mandarine orange. Immediately I get a kind of resinous amber along with woods and slightly smoky incense. A sweet and sour aroma is all I get from the introductory stage. The initial harsh accord wears off relatively quickly; the booziness evaporates and leaves the seat to a more intense lavender, which is very popular in English or British colognes. Interesting is how lavender blends with cinnamon and amber accord, the latter rounds of the sharper edges of the aromatic herbs. There is a bite of cardamom, yet it does not dominate the heart. Meanwhile, a dry and musky note of ambrette seeds reveals itself from the spicy and oily bouquet. The savory spiciness of the heart is a pleasure for whom it may wear and smell it. It is a very aromatic scent, and not your typical spices. I pick up all the base notes here, notably the cedarwood. Pursuit dries down to a lovely mellow scent with a smoky vibe; I get an interesting unmentioned incense accord, which is practically present in the background through the fragrance's entire life. Perhaps that smokiness is oozing from the blend of blond woods, sandal and cedar, the refined patchouli, and the earthy vetiver. With that amber and woods accords, it makes it smooth and honeyed, yet not cloying. November just began; I know in this season I prefer woody, leathery, and oriental fragrances as they are very masculine and react well with chilly and misty days. You can smell the incense, amber, and musk vibe in this fragrance, which gives the scent that extra secrecy. This fragrance is a must for any men's collection and is perfect to wear on a night out as it has excellent staying power because of the notes of dark notes. Notwithstanding, it wears well for the office because it is not intrusive at all. Very classy, mature, I'd say, for a 30-50 aged man. In terms of sillage, Pursuit is rather fleeting and leaves only a limited trace. While projection is slightly more effective, it is still short-lived, just like longevity. Luckily, this one's longevity is better than its younger brother Custom, which does not last on my skin. On par with Dolce & Gabbana's The One, Pursuit is a classic autumn fragrance that also works well during winter. Thanks to its smokey and oily properties, it reflects the season well and reassures both the wearer and his entourage. It merits more recognition as it's a fragrance that's not just overlooked but largely forgotten. I'd say if you can find this one for the right price and can wait around to the middle and base notes, you may find this fragrance enjoyable to some degree. This review bases upon a 100ml (3.4 fl. oz) bottle I own since October 2020.

So there was a dare in a fragrance group to give a cheapie a chance, which sounds like an unfortunate game show, but nevertheless, I decided to play. The fragrance was Dunhill Pursuit. Most of you, like me, have probably never heard of it. Nor cared. Well, it came out in 2006 without much fanfare or celebrity endorsement. I'm sure it quickly made its way to drugstores and discount outlets where it continues to languish, unnoticed and unloved. At least until someone said, Hey, give this fragrance a chance. It will surprise you. A spicy amber with...whoah, wait, hold it right there...stop. I've had my fill of ambers, thank you. But okay, I'm not too proud to try things, especially at THAT price. That's the thing about fragrances. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You've got to smell it to know for sure. No one knows your nose like you do. Well, it’s all too easy to dismiss this inexpensive Dunhill as just another clean, bracing masculine with technically some amber in it, especially after the initial blast and probably 10-15 minutes into it. But then after about 15 minutes, something interesting happens. The volume is dialed down considerably, but other notes begin to take shape—cinnamon (but not too much), spices, sandalwood, and yes, amber. It’s deceiving because at the start, you’ll say, oh yeah, I’ve smelled this before. But by the time you’ve gotten to work, you’ll be amazed at how you’ve suddenly transformed into James Bond--a dashing man of mystery and fine taste. It does tone down quite a bit, both in projection and possibly duration; but hey, by the end of the day, isn't it pleasant to discover some sexy skin scents? In the final act, it gets a little resinous on me and I think I even get a little salted caramel with tobacco accents in the dry down. Super wearable, emergency fragrance. See? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This is the second Dunhill fragrance I have acquired and I bought it cheaply(75mL for the equivalent of a little over $20 US - on sale). I also bought it blind. In Australia, Dunhill fragrances can be found almost everywhere, which might give the impression to some that these are generic or of low quality. Not true. Well I'm certainly glad I bought this one. It is all 100% class. The packaging is very elegant, yet still functional: the compass design on the lid a nice touch and hints at Dunhill's commitment to quality. The liquid itself is very warm and rich. It has a pepper-like sharpness which is accompanied by the incense and woody notes, meaning that the sharpness is subdued enough to not make you sneeze. I'm not really sure how to properly express this, but here goes: the pepper (not listed as one of the notes)rises out of the general richness created by the expert combination of woody, spicy, incense and sweet notes and adds another dimension to this fragrance. It is impossible to overstate how classy this one is. After a while the pepper fades and the cinnamon and musk become more obvious. The woods and incense are the most pervasive of the notes and give this more than acceptible longevity. I have not yet experienced a Dunhill fragrance that I don't like.

I cant understand why this does not get more Love. a very nice woody amber scent with incense and even though it is not listed I smell leather. Good projection and I get 6 to 8 hours longevity with about 4 sprays which is pretty good in my book. It is a very warm, comfortable, elegant fragrance that would work very well for nights out or close intimate settings. Probably more suited for colder weather but is pretty good for spring and summer nights as well. If you like Gucci Pour Homme, Dirty English or Dsquared Potion and you are on the look out for something similar, Dunhill Pursuit is a very good, much cheaper choice that punches far above it's weight. I love it. 8.5/10 P.S Pursuit shines even more in the colder months. I've been getting close to 10 hrs longevity the past few days. Time to pick up a back up bottle. This is really good stuff.

I have reviewed this before, and at certain times I even placed this as my number one, top signature fragrance. This is not a heavy fragrance. It is a summer oriental if there were such a category here. Nevertheless, it is intoxicating, on a level similar only to Opium Pour Homme. (This is not to say these two smell similar!) It is subtly rich and rewarding. And the notes selected by the fragrantica staff in the description are off, but they appear to have tried to get the spirit of the scent in the selection of notes. But here are the fragrance notes as affirmed by the Dunhill people: Top Notes Bergamot, Mandarin, Yuzu, Pink Pepper Middle Notes Cinnamon, Ambrette seed, Spike lavender, Cardamom Base Notes White Cedarwood, Vetiver, Vanilla, Patchouli

First off let me say I just purchased every fragrance this weekend that Dunhill currently offers. I have A growing respect for this House. With that said, I am stunned by Pursuit, I just Love it. A grown up Dirty English would be A good way to describe it, and since Dirty English was discontinued A perfect replacement. Very Masculine while remanning close to the skin, Perfect. When you sample this as always spray it on skin, for you rookies the paper sample strip is completely worthless, all Fragrance's need time to develop and mix with your natural body chemistry. 10/10 Permeant Staple in my collection.

Pursuit is such a free & optimistic, modern yet reserved, stylish and uplifting fragrance that it makes it easily my favourite from Dunhill! To me mandarin, lavender, amber and incense are the dominant notes and I just love the whole presentation of this fragrance as well. There are no boundries with this one, its such and easy yet elegant wear with great personality to it! Puts a smile on your face and has the word "negatve" deleted from its vocabulary! Sillage, projection ad longevity are all well done, no complaints at all! Very very nice! job by Girard for this old british house.

Dolce & Gabbana simply stole this right off the shelves. Even the bottle is clearly copied. This is extremely similar to "the one". Also, Abercrombie Fierce uses this exact formula too. It's a winner as a fragrance. There is just nothing bad to say, this is a extremely likeable scent from Dunhill - the king of affordables. Very modern still in 2022, perfect for spring day and a leather jacket. In fact, I might get a bottle for spring since the price is so good. Need to douse yourself in it because it does a vanishing act after an hour tops.

I have had this fragrance twice before and my nose never gets fed up of it. Being a natural perfumer and creator of my own perfumes I know that I prefer oriental woody fragrances as they are very masculine. In this fragrance you can clearly smell the incense and the ambers and musk which gives the fragrance that added mystery. This fragrance is a must have for any male collection. This fragrance is perfect to wear on a night out as it has very good staying power which is down to the musk, amber and incense notes.

Amber fragrances tend not to have the best longevity in my experience. However, there is enough in this Alfred Dunhill composition to elevate it above the generic genre. It has an appealing spicy, woody drydown. As with most Dunhill fragrances you are getting a classy, masculine fragrance at a good price. I struggled with Icon but this is a winner. You get decent longevity, silage is moderate and not too overpowering. A great all-rounder, nice to entice the object of your desire on a date and a safe one for work.

This is an expertly done fragrance that will always be in my collection because it is so unique. Dunhill's are basically suit-wearing gentlemen's fragrances, and not intended to announce your presence so much as to enhance it a bit. Though a girl, l love all the notes contained in this perfume. I plan wear it together with some white flower scents which are too bold for me, just to add some feeling of masculine and woody as I wish. That's a blind buy, and I think it just doesn't let me down at the first sniff. Get a 2.5 oz one for about $11...... what a good bargain! Need more time to find out more about this scent.

Bright, positive, energetic, classy and uplifting. These are the 5 words I could use to describe this beauty by Dunhill. Best in the Fall and Winter its like a warm, sunshiny day from back in those times when the world used to be a better place. At the same time its never dated and definitely holds it ground against any designer release of today. A stunner from Dunhill!

This fragrance reflects the masculinity of a real gentleman. A little bit citrucy, a little bit sweet, a little bit lavender and then incence and wood. Sometimes I think I don't need any other fragrance. Good projection and longevity. A female colleague was pleasantly surprised smelling this one on me. She said: "That's a man's perfume. And a real good one".

I love having the bottle and the fragrance is just perfectly enjoyable. An oriental that can be worn in the summer or winter. Dunhill Pursuit. Remind me to 'Chris Gardner/Will Smith' on 'The Pursuit of HAPPYness'. Chris Gardner represent this scent. Hardworker. Family man. Smart. Consistent. If you a man with high determination to get success, Dunhill Pursuit will be your bestfriend. To conquer the world. The bottle cap with 'compass' is cool. 8/10 from me.

I like this very much. I don't sense anything artificial, as others have said. It is alternatingly sweet and spicy, then woody and green. It is mildly complex; I wouldn't say it is the most complex scent I own, but it is sufficiently interesting as to remain constantly enjoyable to me. It is very unique. Definitely worth trying.

I love this, Dunhill fragrances always seem to be good and this is another one. It has a real smell of class and quality and yet is always reasonably priced (here in the UK at least). Longevity is the only slight let down but personally I'd rather have three or four hours of quality than be lumbered with a cheaper smell all day.

First of all, I love mandarin. In this fragrance it shines through the spices and that already makes it very nice to me. Its a good feeling to wear it. Sophisticated & grown up enough to be taken seriously. Yet fresh and uplifting. Nice one from Dunhill!
