Mongolian Cashmere

Man, This fragrance smells absolutely GORGEOUS (NOW)! Initially I was super dissapointed with the extremely faint smell and atrocious performance Mongolian Cashmere had and thought that maybe id recieved a fake bc I hear roumers that fakes are in circulation. Thing is Ive been here before where a fragrance may start off extremely weak, but after introducing air into the bottles, waiting a couple days, weeks or even months some fragrance can drastically change, and thus was the case with Mongolian Cashmere! This fragrance now has above average performance and much more rich and complex after Maturing for nearly 2 months. Ya get a clear and present Rose, slight powdery nuances and this amazingly suptle, very realistic suede/leather that really does smell like a brand new leather wallet or purse, yet the Suede meets the Rose and Amber halfway and doesn't over power any of the other notes. Its truley sorta crazy how much this scent has changed and intensified. Initially Id get maybe 2 to 3 hours of a nice, but tookway too faint, watery rose with ambery touches and that was it! Well NOW nearly 2 months later the Suede/Leather is front and center and is unmistakable, the ambery accord is also stronger and the scent just smells "Thicker." Mongolian Cashmere smells super unique, is ABSOLUTELY "Unisex" and has good "above average performance" with moderate sillage, although its not over-powering or cloying! Also I was trynna figure out why I was getting some sort of slight "Berry note" and read that Pink Pepper can give a slight "berry nuance" and it certainly does it here. Dunhills - Mongolian Cashmere is an AMAZING, very unique fragrance which deserves a 9 out of 10 in my book and although waiting nearly 2 moths for it to improve, it is SOOO worth the wait! BEAUTIFUL!

***3rd Update*** Yeah, so Ive sorta become OBSESSED with Mongolian Cashmere as anyone can see from the "Updated, multiple reviews!" LOL! Thing is that I dont really wear any one of my frags many day in a row as I have quite a bit and so I try to rotate between them, and so each friggin' time I come back to this scent, I notice something different! Its odd bc this scent is somewhat linear, but today Im getting an unmistakable "Red Berry and hyper-realistic Suede with hints of Rose." Dunhill's - Mongolian Cashmere has just come such a looong way as far as the over-all performance and the actual scent itself since Id first purchased/spritzed my brand-new bottle about a year ago that its kinds CA-RAZY honestly! Anyhow, yeah! I just fall more and more in love with this whacky "Niche Level" Scent" each time I wear it and then I feel inspired to leave a little "Shout out" to this beautiful thang every time! I really do Highly recommended Mongolian Cashmere, just with the caveat that Maturation for a few months is an absolute MUST for this dna to reach its full potential, but MY GOODNESS is it totally worth it! Oh man...another one and what a scent! Straight forward Acqua di Parma Leather. Warm, exclusive, soapy, slightly floral and more woody, and the impression will get you a kind of unidentifiable sweet leather. Very wearable in the winter half of the year, meaning late September through to March. Fills room quite fast in the beginning and lingers. You may get comment on smelling good, although you yourself do not feel the scent anymore. For some, clearly, this will be nauseating, because it is not by any means a fresh scent. This is a relaxing scent for a late afternoon in your apartment with sun shining in and you with your friend or a partner or a family having a relaxing moment, just casually talking or playing something or streaming your reality show on your screen. Longevity is good for 6 hours, which takes you through either afternoon or an evening. May work also as an scent for work and even a hike or a fishing trip, if you into that stuff.It is a unisex fragrance, although I understand the feminine leaning. To me, I wear it with confidence as a straight man enjoying the relaxing mood it creates, even if you have been stressed upfront. Just love it!

Distinct fragrance - a soft suede with rose and floral overlay. Yes the top is bit mandarin orange and spice, but immediately to my nose the rose (and maybe orris - but really never put my nose to it separately so can't claim to know its fragrance) comes out. I am surprised no one mentioned it, but to me the mid has the strong soft creamy rose like the old ponds cold cream my mother used to use. Its a divine scent to me but some might thing it is feminine. Slowly the suede leather comes in - maybe just a touch of musk and amber to keep it a soft leather rather a distinct note. The florals persist rather than evaporate which makes this a unique leather scent. Not an overly complicated scent, but you will smell good and to me, that is the whole point. Well blended as are all the Signature bottles. The quality shows, esp when you compare to a lot of cheap ME clones. a 8.5 / 10

After a few days of wearing, I realized this is very similar to Afro Leather by Maison Alhamba and so maybe also African Leather. The notes and drydown are very similar - except AL is bit more dry with vertiver and bergamont, whereas Mongolian Cashmere has a sweet floral top note that stays for hours from the rose and geranium. I much, much prefer the Mongolian Cashmere. It is a sexier perfume than Afro Leather which though enjoyable as a dry, rough type of leather , it is not as appealing as the Mongolian Cashmere. I am going to get a bottle or two before they disapper.

#564 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is a really nice peppery, musky, ambery suede, mildly floral and sweet, overall a great scent. My last trial of the Dunhill Signature Collection. Good longevity, moderate projection, fair price, versatile for office, casual and date night. If you already have Rochas Moustache EDP (not original), Tuscan Leather or some clone thereof, YSL Tuxedo, Polo Supreme Cashmere, this would be redundant.

I just received this Dunhill a few days ago. I really love it. I have been wearing since I received it. I bought from a discounter for about $50+-. Batch code shows a 2022 manufacturer date. Made in the USA by Inter Purfums. I have about 10 Alfred Dunhills. This is the best one yet. A dry, classy, floral, maybe unisex scent. I haven't tried anything else that smells like it. It is very good, and very discontinued.

An easy to use leathery scent. A bit powdery floral (orris,rose,geranium) and leaning towards sweeter side of masuline fragrance. Longivity is good. I found the its projection depends largely on temperature. Iam in Thailand, Mongolia cashmere projects well outdoor in high heat, but a bit mute in air conditioned room. Not offensive, office and gym friendly. Unique and good value for money. Love it.

Even stronger still and that Suede note is even stronger and way more pronounced meeting the rose halfway now! Anyone else notice their bottle improving over-time? Makes me wanna get the entire collection before they're all gone!

This is an approachable, soft, and semi-sweet leather fragrance. Take Tuscan Leather and soften it with iris, rose, musk, and sweet mandarin, and this is the result. An absolutely delicious fragrance that is blended incredibly well, especially at this price point. This whole Dunhill line is just awesome.

My favorite from the signature collection- so far... The orris makes this the winner. This is potent and long lasting- without being nuclear.

9/10... On paper leather with very strong florals, much better and balanced on skin. Little bit of sweetness in the background....very good.

The best way I can describe this is like walking past the dress shoes and belts section of a department store- a dry and almost astringent leather smell. It's not bad, mind you, just a very specific scent memory that this nails. It's well-crafted and rich, but fairly linear.

Smells like a leather goods store with some florals. It’s a bit dry and pretty linear although after about 20mins the rose pops up more on my skin with suede taking a back seat but still present. Not bad

Where the previous fragrance leaned into radiant citrus and coastal air, this one suggests a shift toward softness and warmth, inspired not only by geography but by material, evoking the feel of fine cashmere against the skin. There is an expectation here of a fragrance that prioritizes texture over projection, something smooth, enveloping, and quietly luxurious rather than bold or attention-grabbing. It feels like a move away from freshness into something more intimate and refined, where the focus is less on brightness and more on comfort and subtle elegance. Let’s see if this one truly wraps the skin in that soft, cashmere-like embrace once it settles in. Opening: The opening is floral, powdery, and spicy. The primary notes I get are rose, orris, geranium, and pink pepper, with rose and orris leading the composition. Rose is the first note that comes forward, presenting a classically rosy floral accord that sits comfortably between jammy and fresh without leaning too far in either direction, giving the opening a refined and balanced tone. Orris quickly joins, introducing its signature earthy powderiness that adds a smooth, almost velvety texture and reinforces that soft, cosmetic-like feel. Geranium follows behind, layering in additional floral nuance with a fresher and slightly green character; unlike the geranium found in Nordic Fougère, this one lacks that minty sharpness and instead comes across as smoother and more traditionally floral, blending seamlessly into the composition. Pink pepper rounds out the opening with a gentle, nose-tingling spice that adds a touch of brightness and lift without disrupting the softness, while subtle hints of sweet citrus from mandarin orange and faint whispers of a smooth, suede-like nuance begin to emerge in the background. The result is a soft and refined opening where elegant florals, gentle powder, and subtle spice come together in a smooth and graceful introduction. Dry Down: The dry down is powdery, leathery, and ambery. The primary notes I get are suede, orris, amber, and geranium, with suede and orris taking the lead. Suede moves to the forefront, presenting a smooth, supple, and refined leather accord that feels soft and luxurious rather than bold or rugged. It leans more in the direction of the suede found in YSL's Babycat, resembling the interior of a high-end suede bag rather than anything harsh or aggressive. Orris remains a central pillar of the composition, maintaining its powdery, cosmetic-like character with a subtle earthy undertone that reinforces the fragrance’s soft and textured feel. Amber begins to emerge at this stage, introducing a warm, glowing sweetness that adds depth without becoming overly rich, somewhat reminiscent of the amber found in MFK's Grand Soir, though much more restrained. Geranium lingers in the background, contributing a faint touch of fresh floral brightness that ties the dry down back to the opening. The result is a smooth and enveloping dry down where powdery florals, soft suede, and gentle warmth come together in a refined and textured finish. Performance: Projection opens at a strong level, reaching out to about six feet within the first hour and establishing a noticeable presence. Sillage follows closely behind, leaving an easily perceptible scent trail. After approximately three to four hours, performance remains impressively consistent, with projection still hovering around five to six feet and the scent trail maintaining much of its initial strength. As the fragrance continues to develop, it gradually begins to soften. Around the seven to eight hour mark, projection settles to roughly three to four feet, while the scent trail becomes lighter but still noticeable. The fragrance transitions into a skin scent somewhere around the nine to ten hour mark, resulting in a well-rounded performance that exceeds expectations for this style of scent. When to Wear: Mongolian Cashmere is a versatile fragrance that can be worn year round and works in both daytime and evening settings. The lighter floral and slightly spicy elements in the opening allow it to feel comfortable in warmer weather, while the powdery, suede, and ambery base gives it enough depth to perform well in cooler conditions. It can be worn casually without feeling out of place, but also has enough refinement to suit special occasions and more formal environments. However, due to its more pronounced powdery and floral character, it may feel slightly out of place in an office setting, where something cleaner and more restrained would typically be preferred. Blind Buy: Mongolian Cashmere is not a safe blind buy. The name suggests a soft, cozy, and perhaps more traditionally “cashmere-like” experience, but the actual scent profile leans much more heavily into powdery florals and cosmetic-like textures. Among the fragrances in this line that I've tried, it also comes across as the most feminine-leaning, largely due to the prominence of rose, geranium, and orris. This could be a point of contention for those expecting a more traditionally masculine interpretation. Because of this mismatch between expectation and reality, sampling is strongly recommended before committing to a full bottle. Final Verdict: With a name like Mongolian Cashmere, I expected a fragrance centered around warmth, softness, and that cozy, enveloping quality typically associated with cashmere. Instead, what I experienced was a composition focused more on florals, powder, and a soft suede base in the dry down. That does not make it a bad fragrance, but it does create a noticeable disconnect between expectation and execution. On the positive side, performance turned out to be better than anticipated, offering a consistent and respectable wear throughout the day. However, the overall scent profile leans more feminine than I personally prefer, a sentiment that was reinforced when my wife also noted that it felt like something she would wear. In fact, I ended up passing the rest of the decant along to her. She will get enjoyment out of it, but for me, this is not a fragrance I see myself adding to my personal collection. Very nice. It has the very raw leather from ombré leather edp, but it’s softened up with geranium, rose, and eventually a very noticeable orris accord. Quality is very high on this one. My favorite from the collection I’ve smelled so far. Performance is good but projection isn’t super strong. Great for an occasion where you need something that can hold up in the cold weather without being overbearing. 9/10

@Morenoetrata I’m glad you’ve said this. Thank you for your updated review. I got a bottle yesterday and I’m not that impressed. It’s heavy on the rose. A bit of pepper. Hardly any iris or amber. It lasts about 2-3 hours. I’ll store it away for a couple of months and see what happens. Will be back then.
