Alfred Sung Pour Homme (1989) Top notes: Bergamot, Juniper Berries, Sage, Pepper, Artemesia, Caraway, Lemon, Basil Galbanum, Petigrain, Bayleaf Middle Notes: Pine Tree Needles, Aldehydes, Carnation, Geranium, Caraway, Spicy Notes, Rose, Jasmine Base Notes: Fir, Oakmoss, Leather, Musk, Cedar, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Patchouli . Wow, Wow, Wow--lotta notes. A complex beautiful woman, a deeply emotional poet and devastating warrior. Put on your outfit. Gee, I wish I did stuff like that. I bought this on a whim. Thank you Sebastion of Smelling Great for correcting the market by reviewing it and stating it does NOT smell like Irish Spring and it is worth a try. It does not really smell like Irish Spring, but roughly there is similarity. It is really not that close. These comparisons can be ruinous. I just don't like it when people mention similar scents. I know they are just trying to be helpful, but in comes the pre-conceptions from the 'similar scents'. Ever been out on a date where the person spends all the time talking about their 'X'? I like a fresh start, and this is no ordinary scent. This scent --really-- is pretty darn unique and I would be reckless to compare. Sorry, I am not sorry. You're gonna have to go in a virgin on this one. Well. . . I just love it and it is so different. Upon open, there is kind of like carbonation bubbles for about twelve seconds. It almost tickles the nose. Aldehydes? Don't Know. What I perceived as cinnamon is likely Bayleaf. I do get the Pine Tree Needles and the 'twangy green' --later identified by the note list as probably Geranium or perhaps Petigrain. Every once in awhile a deaf, dumb and blind dog finds a bone. I only picked up a fraction of the notes and have much to learn. Since I love classic British(Dunhill, Miller Harris, Hugh Parsons etc.), I was tickled that one could detect Oakmoss on the rapid drydown. Also, Juniper Berries are in there which is one of my all-time favorites and present in may British scents. I think the note 'Spicy' does remain after ninety seconds, and it is not overly traditional or predictable. This Spicy has some industrial secrets. It ain't donuts, christmas cookies, spice cookies or dank, outdated sachet--It is delightful. I just adore a good spice like Tabac. Things can be simple and wonderful. It aint the standard abomination that is spice. It aint the standard canned dog food that is fed to men as 'skewing male'. A real man thinks for himself. This is it--kind sir. Again, this scent-- Alfred Sung Pour Homme-- is really neat and special. This spice is totally unique and seems like maybe a marine scent is dancing in there. Ocean--not Sargent. (Almost got my ass kicked.) Also present ,with a careful sniff, is the Sage and Black Pepper which is like my beloved Dunhill fragrances. Drydown is fast and projection is about four inches from the flat of the arm. All in about five minutes. But you are left with a true collage of genius that will last max two hours close to the skin. You can boost it anytime, as the price is so affordable it is down right--EXCITING, FUN-- with money left for coffee and blueberry muffins. Yay!!!! Let's talk straight, can we say straight anymore? This fragrance has a scent suggestion in a way. Alfred Sung uses a prism to blend. Alfred Sung's scent approach is light in a way. The product is so advanced. Words are hard. The word soap has connotation. Well. . . . this scent has an honest to goodness plain ol' Dove scent soap with a J&J Baby powder kind of watercolor going--a shadow. Alfred Sung possesses a gentle, clean and soapy quality; but done just right for me. I'm not a real 'soapy' lover. If you hate soapy, this might be gentle enough to get you into it. Strange, this scent has a metallic scent. Not in the notes list. It has a kind of wet sandpaper rubbing on a piece of aluminum smell. I have done this work alot in my days. I really love this because if is subtle and SO different. On final drydown there is the genius spice note, accompanied by maybe vetiver, very little soapiness, metallic in the very back (so neat)-- and none of it gets too candy sweet because it is offset by the leather. Aside: Again, my insistence that leather/animalic hint can neatly offset 'candiness' in a magical way. It is the case right here. Hot, Hot Looks!!! This juice is not entirely blue--it has a small hint of purple. It is like a Siberian Amethyst. You can look it up to get a real close approximation. This color had me staring in morning light and sunset near a window. For you watercolor artists and photographers and people that dig New Mexico; this color is mind-bogglingly gorgeous!!!! This bottle is a cool tribute to Art Deco. It is tall and slender with facets that remind me of the old automotive buildings in Detroit or New York; the square shoulders that 'step-down' in scale to other square shoulders. Bottle is not too deep so how does it stand up so well. It is heavy as heck, that's how. The cap is total innovation. The cap has a very wide,large front and rear tab that slides over the shoulders of the bottle itself. I don't throw this around loosely. I am not one of those people that say 'brilliant' all the time. Here goes: I really think Alfred Sung is a stark-raving genius. Usage of Bottle: Atomizer is superb--spray pattern can be changed by how hard/abrupt you press down. Slow press down is a squirt gun just like most. Normal operation is a spray pattern almost identical to Dunhill and I think they are the very best. Not over atomized and wafty. Just right. OK, enough said. Now I'll say more. Buy this if you are adventurous, don't like clean and soapys but love bath soap and collect them. Buy this because it is not just a scent, it is dramatic reach beyond the edge, an integrated sculpture full of jewel-like fluid. A statement of color, scent, grace that is just---beyond; an ultra-sophisticated personal accessory. Alfred Sung Pour Homme is a fragrance, sculpture, collage, a real treasure and quite affordable.

2017 Batch, Manufactured in NY, Deep purple juice. What an obscure, odd, and misunderstood gem of a fragrance. I love the scent of Irish Spring soap and had been using it for a while, but it started to dry out my skin so I started looking for a scent which was similar and came across this. It achieves essentially the same humid, soapy effect, but there's quite a bit more going on here under the hood. First, a bit of classification, the controversial part. Fellas, this is in no way shape or form an aromatic fougere. No standout lavender note (despite the purple color), no grassy coumarin, nada. This is a fresh-woody chypre in a very pure state, loaded to the brim with synthetic oakmoss, labdanum, eugenol, and aldehydes. This can be further confirmed simply by checking Symrise's H&R Geneology chart, where it sits squarely in the woody-leathery chypre genre (appeal to authority fallacy blah blah blah... do you think you know more about fragrances than chemists and fragrance historians?) That's just a heads up to those of you who are expecting a barbershoppy style fragrance like Paco Rabanne PH or something. This ain't it. Now that that's out of the way... Sung Homme opens up super sharp and aldehydic. Aldehydes, eugenol, citrus, and some sort of caraway note combine to form a vivid and slightly disturbing industrial soap accord. I'll just come out and say it, it literally smells like a urinal cake here. If you think Kouros smells like a urinal cake, try Sung Homme. It's very mild in Kouros compared to this. Within this strange accord, the eugenol bursts and gushes, adding an even more disturbing sensation of being injected with novocaine at a dentist's office. Combined with the sweaty caraway, this is a very jarring opening that would never be present in any fragrance released nowadays. The disturbing opening fades away and the eugenol starts to shift into a more legible bay laurel/cinnamon note, which meets with pine/fir, juniper, labdanum, and some floral carnation. This is where it really starts to smell like Irish Spring, and its quite fresh and pleasant, almost "mass appealing" in this stage. You thought you were safe from that obscure 80's weirdness? Think again. As it settles more on skin, the synthetic oakmoss comes out, and there's a lot of it. It smells vividly of stale tobacco, like somebody who has smoked at least a pack a day for years. It's jarring, but not unpleasant, and charming for it's complete disregard for modern "safe-spaces" and quiet rooms where aggressive scents are not allowed. Speaking of which, this is indeed "beast-mode" juice. Two sprays will last you the entire work day and then some, it might even last you through a shower and into the next day. Overall, I have to rate this very highly. Priced at $14, this is not only a bargain, but a window into a different time period which is long gone but easily experienced with just a spray. And it's not a fougere.

I've already written about Sung Homme at length, but after not wearing it much at all in 2020 and recently picking it up again in the beginning of the spring, it's become one of my all time favorites and I've got a few more points about it: -The perfumer is James Bell, who has criminally received no credit for this. He's also the nose behind Elizabeth Taylor Passion which coincidentally also has purple juice and features a smoky chypre backdrop. -This perfume is mislabeled by almost everybody as an "aromatic fougere," (hilariously, Fragrantica now labels Dior Fahrenheit as an "aromatic fougere" as well...) most likely because it is very soapy. In the minds of these people, anything from the 80s that is "soapy" must automatically mean it's "barbershop" style and thus it's a fougere. It's not the case here. It's a main point that I've written about before but there is no lavender anywhere in the composition, and definitely no sweet powdery coumarin. What I do get is a refreshing citric bite in the top colored in by a nuclear eugenol bomb, with a resinous woody-ambery labdanum and pine mid (colored by yet even more eugenol) and a heavy oakmoss base. These three components make up the chypre, so a chypre it is, albeit a very clean, fresh, virile "soapy" chypre. -This is a eugenol bomb and a case study in the ingredient. Eugenol is the secret ingredient which is responsible for the infamous pink "urinal cake" smell which Kouros is maligned for, and it's distilled to it's very essence in Sung Homme, where it's used in varying ways throughout the life of the perfume to represent the notes of bay leaf, cloves, carnation. It has narcotic effects and is what the dentist rubs on your gums to slightly numb them before injecting you with novocaine. This aspect of Sung Homme could make it a bit challenging for some. This narcotic, medicinal aspect of Sung Homme is for sure amplified by spices like cinnamon and caraway. I've got to say that this thing is a bonafide masterpiece and that's not even considering it's price point. Despite the challenging aspects I've discussed, Sung Homme is easy to wear and always comes across as clean, even garnering positive comments. It easily lasts the entire day and the vivid bright soap is lifted out of the resinous woods and spices when your body heats up, even 8 hours after applying. It also represents the "synthwave/vaporwave" retro aesthetic better than any other fragrance I've come across, so if you are looking for a sleazed out anachronistic neon powerhouse with a melancholic-nostalgic chypre drydown to match those vibes this stuff destroys the likes of Drakkar Noir in my humble opinion. 10/10 masterpiece.

Let me start off by saying that this is a hell of a fragrance. It's strong, yet soft; it lasts, but it's not overwhelming; it's bold, yet understated; it's linear, but complex. A lot of reviewers have described about the first 3 hours of this frag, but a fragrance that lasts as long as this does, I think, deserves a bit more description. Sung Homme is unique, but it's hard to review without comparing it to other fragrances that parts of it resemble. It opens up with a slightly bitter citrus and lavender blast with a touch of wood, which lasts about 10-20 minutes; it turns fresh soapy and woody with an occasional touch of floral and fir/spruce for the next 3-4 hours; it then remains a slightly sweet floral with soapy musk/oak moss and a slightly nondescript conifer note (pine/fir/spruce) which develops an incense-y note for the next 5-8+ hours. There's something familiar and comparable about it throughout its whole scent life, while it is unique at the same time; it has some of the greatest parts of some of the greatest fragrances: It opens with some lavender-y/citrus-y similarities to Cool Water/Aspen; equally fresh, while being wholly different than both. It maintains some "Irish Spring-like" musk-y/moss-y floral soapiness throughout, while not entirely conjuring a facsimile of Irish Spring. It has some parallels to Quorum by Puig; without the darkness, dirtiness, and maturity of Quorum's leather, tobacco, and Quorum's heavy floral-y musk that turn an über-macho fragrance into Eau De nursing home. Sung Homme is floral without going full old lady. Finally, some notes can be compared to Old School Mediterranean conifer fragrances like Pino/Agua Brava/A.D. Selva, but without the abysmal lasting power; not on the whole, but parts of it like the conifer and old-school new leather scent. It's a great fragrance with several notes that take turns and play well with each other. It's going for a great price, even for a blind-buy. You can't go wrong, and even if you don't like it you could do a whole lot worse. **UPDATE** I've gotten several compliments, albeit mostly from older women, but still compliments. My wife, who is incredibly fickle about fragrances, has had zero complaints; and it made my father in-law sneeze about 4 hours after applying, although he didn't say anything about cologne.

I have had this one in my collection for a couple of years now... I sprayed it on the other day, and then, *WHAM*, it hit me all at once; this is a lot like my #1 personal favorite perfume that has been discontinued for quite some time now, Lagerfeld Photo. I am happy to pop onto this page and see that I am not the only one that has noticed the similarity! While Sung Homme is not an exact clone, they are quite similar in their DNA and overall presentation. Maybe even a Body Kouros kind of air to it with that Eucalyptus it has in it I believe. This is definitely an aromatic fougere, and the complexity, yet general tone these notes set is just fantastic. Nothing is too overbearing, everything mingles quite well, and nothing screams offensively amongst the crowd. It has "green", herbaceous and spicy notes, slight soapiness, with the main players to *MY* nose being the Pine/Fir, "Spices" (I want to say a "sweet" cinnamon, a la Halston Z14), and the Aldehydes. Yes, the florals are present within the ensemble, but they are not the main players! It lasts for the better part of a day on skin, and a good bit longer still if you put it on clothes. It will project and have a huge sillage for a good couple of hours, and then the projection dies down a bit with the sillage still intact. A solid performer, especially for the price! I would say this is a good morning/afternoon wear, or something smooth and fresh after working out at the gym, but I would say it would be a rare grab for me if it was something to spray on for the evening. Overall, I would say snag this one up even as a blind buy as it is priced so very competitively that you could just pass it on to a friend as a gift if you are not a fan. But there are not MANY fragrances I have smelled within this DNA thus far, so it would definitely be a more unique option to have in the collection. Personally, I was devastated when I found out a couple of years too late that my absolute favorite perfume, Lagerfeld Photo, was discontinued and I could not find it anywhere to buy.. Only to stumble upon this gem, while a little more sweet, but missing the Lavender and Citrus Top that was my long lost Photo. At least it is close, thank you, Alfred Sung!

Sung Homme has to be one of the most enjoyable fragrances in my entire collection, no strings attached. It has everything to go with it – complexity, versatility, a pleasurable character and excellent performance. It is an inexpensive fragrance I have stocked heavily on, just in case it disappears from the radar. I cannot imagine being without a bottle of this purple wonder. A long time ago, I used to go to sleep with a sniff of the sprayer, the fragrance is that clean and comforting. Now, the notes are many in the composition and they cannot be easily picked from each other, such is the blending. As you might expect from a pyramid like the above, the scent is complex and strong. Aldehydes, fir balsam, pine needles, carnation, oakmoss, myriad herbs and citruses, all playing a magnificent piece of music. One could say this is a northern or boreal fragrance, given the most prominent notes and the designer country of origin. And it is indeed so, to most excellent effect. Sung Homme was launched in a year where nobody could have dreamed about the revolting arsenal of blatantly synthetic chemical inventions used in today's releases that bear no resemblance to any natural element and certainly do not evoke images of the outdoors. As any true powerhouse, regardless of the precise fragrant impression or category of the scent, Sung Homme has this smoldering quality to it that guarantees you will not be bored at any point of wearing it, picking now and then this note, then another, never obtrusively. This style and quality of fragrance-making has all but disappeared in our time, where every note is deplorably upfront, invariably irritating your sinuses and ultimately leading you to the next offering, which is not much different.

This one is a sleeper. Guys, I’m telling you, for 20 bucks? This stuff is amazing. It’s such an under the radar, soapy clean masculine smell. People might not even think you are wearing cologne. They might just think you got out of the shower. Or that you just naturally smell really good. This is one of the least sharp fragrances I’ve encountered. Good performance but soft and not abrasive at all. This could be an amazing signature scent. It smells great and is super easy to wear and it’s cheap! If you want to smell effortlessly clean and masculine, I have to tell you I have not found a better alternative and I’ve been hunting for a fragrance like that for years. This definitely smells like Irish Spring. Just so you know. It also has a somewhat smokey thing going on in the background. But it stays pretty linear to me and it dries down beautifully. It is indeed very soapy. It does have a more "Old fashioned" vibe to it and could bring back memories of earlier times for certain people. Just be aware of that. There are people out there who know this scent profile for sure. You'd probably want to be at least in your late 20's to pull this off. I also will tell you I have the vintage purple juice made in Canada. I do not know if the newer blue juice is the same. Guys, this is a probably like a 8.5/10 and the only reason I don’t give it higher is because it doesn’t quite have the highest quality or elegance to it that a more expensive fragrance would have. But for what it is, it’s amazing.

'Sung Homme' by Alfred Sung, I fell in love with this scent over two decades ago, and it has stood the test of time as one of the best colognes I have ever owned. This is for the real man, incredibly masculine and dark, but yet still very refined and clean smelling. It smells expensive, and lasts for hours and hours. Very powerful and has never failed to get me compliments, hugs and much more from beautiful women everywhere I go. The top notes are basically Irish Spring, but a dark and spicey blend. I am getting lemon, lavender and pine matched to men's body wash and a bar of fresh soap. This blast stays intense for a good hour before the middle notes settle in. Then you get seductive leather, more lavender, ferns and the notes get deeper and darker, sexier and very masculine. The base notes finally show their skin hours later, woods and moss matched to ferns and musk. These notes carry on for such a longtime, and it seems the longer you wear Sung the better it smells. Projection on this is massive, and sillage is absolutely incredible. This is an 80's powerhouse in every sense of the word, and longevity on this for me with eight to ten sprays (neck, chest, shoulders, wrists) is well over 12-15+ hours. You WILL smell this on your clothes the next day. You wear this beauty to special events, date nights, and anywhere elegant or classy where you want to get noticed and complimented. Highly recommended.

Sung Homme Alfred Sung Sung Homme is 34 years old. There is no longer any modern scents that smells like Sung Homme, which is the old classic fresh, piney, herbalish, spicy, greeney, balsamic scent dna. This is not for the kids or any young adults who are into modern designers. It's as good as any vintage can get But it is as good as any herbal piney spicy modern frag can be. If you want to use some older classics to compare, you may look at Polo Green, Quorum, Paco Robanne PH, Zino davidoff etc, the classic herbal piney balsamic stuffs. Sung Homme is very very aromatic with the dna and accords I mentioned. Some may find it sharp and unforgiving especially if you sniff it up close. It is also available for the cheap at many discounters and resellers. The female feminine version Sung which I also have is also pretty damn good and is totally unisex with floras. If you are of certain age and maturity and can handle the scent profile, do give Sung Homme a try. It has one of the best juices for such a scent profile with such complicated notes but generally as I mentioned very aromatic piney herbalish spicy balsamic. Sung Homme should be in the collection of every male who likes musculine vintages.

You may be living in a similar scenario to me. A male, 30-40ish years old. Admittedly, you may have spent a few hundred or even a few thousand on fragrances. Niche, designer, sampled and tried so much. You try and try to find THAT fragrance that will be the end all be all. The holy grail. After 8 years of collecting and sampling and the age of 30, Sung Homme is my personal return to basics and what started this hobby in the first place. Think Drakkar Noir, but a bit darker and richer with more herbs. Mature, confident, dark and clean. This has brought me considerably closer to ending my fragrance journey and realizing this is where it started in the first place. I find Sung Homme so good that I feel like such a fool for spending so much money chasing that holy grail fragrance. It’s here in its simplicity. It’s timeless, and carries a confident man the way you want a fragrance to. Performance is great. No question. This came out in 1989, but I don’t think this is super dated. Value is off the charts. $15 or so for 100ml? Incredible. If you’re a confident 30+ year old and want some fresh quintessential masculinity, grab this.

This one is quickly becoming my go-to work fragrance. I work in a casual environment with the public where wearing fragrances are somewhat frowned upon due to potential allergies. No one in my workplace has fragrance allergies, but its still preferred that we do not apply any fragrances. I wanted to find a fragrance that smelled fresh, clean and most importantly like I wasn't wearing a fragrance. Sung Homme allows me to smell fresh and clean but not as if I'm wearing an obvious fragrance. What everyone says is correct to my nose, it smells like you just came out of the shower from washing yourself with a bar of Irish Spring soap. It's not a groundbreaking fragrance and is not something I'll reach for when having a night out, but I have plenty of others that fill that need. Sung Homme only cost me $16 Canadian and allows me to smell soapy fresh for 8+ hours. If you appreciate the idea of smelling squeaky clean like you just hopped out of the shower, this beast is a no brainer. Scent: 8.5/10 Projection: 9/10 (Don't spray more than 3 for work) Longevity: 10/10 (6-7 hours solid projection, 12 hours total) Value: 10/10

I got a bottle with the purple juice . It came with a bundle so it was pretty much a free bottle. Been wearing it all day yesterday and I’m fairly impressed. Bit rough on opening but if you give it some time it’s quite nice . Especially the late dry down. Although I'm happy to have a bottle , I’m Not sure if I’d hunt down one if I did t have one already . Keeper for casual times 👍 update: been wearing this for a week straight in the summer and I just loooooove it .( Purple juice ) need a backup bottle now update update: 19/08/25 this is my most worn juice during the summer. i just cant get enough of it.. got3 bottles at the moment. two vintages and one modren-er... all of them are purple juices, never tried the blue ones. love the opening, crazy soapy clean then shortly after it dries down to an beauty. many many many compliments if that matters... only on the dry down tho. this is not something you just try at the mall and buy it based on the first seconds. ill probably buy every bottle i see for a reasonable price ( vintage only)

Underrated, its decent kind of a barbershop scent? but a soapy one, just to compare the barbershop scents: Alfred Sung PH - freshly showered scent, Azzaro without the creamy anise and more soapy pine instead Tom Ford BdJ - luxury "brush and bowl style" shaving cream scent but heavier on the lavender note Prada Amber PH - Still a barbershop but the other side of it, a salon type more hairspray/style scent Rive gauche - Best "canned" shaving cream inspired scent Azzaro PH - Canned shaving cream scent but heavier on the spice/anise note Maison ATB - joke, cliche exaggerated barbershop scent like fine american blend, this would be the airfreshner in an actual barbershop..... AP Quorum - Old school European oak moss shave cream tube scent (reminds me of musgo real) Hertitage Guerlain - more traditional barbershop type, less lavender more greens less cream Zino davidoff - very similar to above but more dirty paco rabane PH - stop it. NOT A BARBERSHOP SCENT, its a car pine airfreshner. As much as a barbershop scent as polo green.....

"I want that purple stuff."- Dave Chappelle Sung Homme is just soapy brilliance! I love this scent and yes I got caught up in the very deserved hype. Aside from the affordability and incredible longevity, ASH has an incredible scent. First of all, yes, there is a strong resemblance to Irish Spring and it is nostalgically AMAZING! There are so many notes, I won't even try to break them down. ASH is well blended and doesn't veer into anything too synthetic in my opinion. All we get is a green, herbaceous, spicy, soapy scent that lasts. ASH has a real creaminess to it, which makes this scent even soapier in a great way (think bar of soap, I mean it)! This scent ticks all the boxes, it is fresh, sweet, spicy and masculine. ASH is a scent for guys in their late twenties and up (I do not get an overly mature vibe with this one) If you love fougeres or soapy barbershop style fragrances then give this a try. Next time you look through your bottles for what to wear, you too might be saying; "I want that purple stuff."

There's a few recent formulations. Get the one with the purple juice and ignore the blue juice bottles. I had both and there's a huge difference. The purple one performs like a beast. As others have indicated, it's a soapy masculine scent, think Irish soap (not Irish spring) you'll find in upscale hotels in Ireland. Yes it does scream 80's and I'm okay with that. It's still one of the best buys in men's fragrances due to it's performance and rather charming composition. Nothing sexy or head turning. Just a clean smelling dude that's got his sh*t together, if you will. BTW ignore the claims that Sung Homme smells like Photo by Lagerfeld. That is just silly. Photo is a citrus, wood and spicy scent. While Sung is a soapy, green, aromatic. It's in the same vein as Preferred Stock, Giorgio Red and Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme. The latter being a hard to find masterpiece, and the best of the bunch. Yet, Sung is no slouch. It will always be in my winter rotation.

How can you not like the smell of a clean, soapy, shaving cream scent? Seriously if you hate this scent then you probably very seldom shower. It's not an after shower clean. This is in the shower all soaped up before you rinse off kind of clean. And I love it! Sure it's not a lady killer or even an office or date scent by any means. But it's perfect after a fresh evening shower or morning shave on a weekend morning. Suitable for year around but best in winter because this baby projects like a monster. Do not over spray it will ruin its character. If you have the bright purple original formulation, just 1 or 2 sprays on the neck and you're good to go. Otherwise, if you have the newer more Blueish formulation then you'll need more sprays. They smell same but the older form is much stronger and lasts all day. I hope the purple beast will never get discontinued. If it does I'll buy a case of this masterpiece.

Love this classic cologne. As others have said smells a lot like Irish Spring Soap, not exactly to my nose, but a lot alike for sure. It's a perfect cologne for after an evening shower and shave when you want to relax at night and maybe watch a little TV with your better half. Can be worn anytime of the year. It's not going to wow the ladies, but when it comes to smelling clean and manly, few fragrances can compete. It's one of a few fragrances I purchased a backup bottle. Note: If you can try to get the original formulation known as "The purple beast." The juice is a light purple. Stay clear from the bottles with blue juice which is the latest formulation and weaker. I have both and the purple is at least 3 times stronger and lasts much longer.

Just to give an idea to anyone planning to blind buy this ('cause there's hardly any sample of this anywhere if any), this is NOT the Prada Amber or Azzaro Chrome type of soap. This is not Ivory, this is certainly not Dove. This is unmistakably fougere with that smoky green aspect that you get on the likes of Drakkar Noir or Polo Green. I guess Irish Spring Soap has vintage green herbal notes that reminds people of soaps from the past. As someone who has read a fat ton of comments on this page, I expected this to smell like THE soap that I know. I kind of get their idea if they grew up to herbal soaps. But again, this is smoky, cigarette-like, green that you smell on the 70s to early 90s masculine fragrances.

Not that it matters...but, I like it. I can see from the comments below there is some debate about its potency and its relative scent profile as well as being divisive. There is nothing wrong with this fragrance. Sure, it seems strong. That is the nature of what is in it. It certainly has a soapy clean feel about it and I can get the pine, fir, smoke and cedar / redwood that people perceive. To me, this is very much worth having in my collection. It has guts, it has moxy. It works great in colder months. I am an outdoorsy kind of guy and like living out in the country away from city rats and their butt-hurt about everything lives. This frag is not for them. This is for real men that work hard and play hard.

In my top 5 of favorite economy scents! Economical doesn't mean inferior. A lot of reviews mention soap!? I'd say it's clean, fresh, and musky. This fragrance was launched before "soap/laundry" scents were a thing. Don't let the "soap" reviews scare you away from a really amazing, versital, economical fragrance! The opening is very strong and overwhelming, but after the dry down the body of the fragrance mellows to the masterpiece it is. The modern version is still amazing, but the OF (original formula) is a bit stronger and more refined. A must for the beginner that wouldn't be out of place with high end frags 3.79 out of 5? Average should be a 4.25 or higher HAPPY SMELLS TO YOU ALL!
