Sung

Let us begin by turning the volume down for a moment while we discuss the wondrous creature before us. When we do so momentarily, clarity emerges from a foggy noise, and certain truths present themselves for the taking. First and foremost, Sung is explosively expressive, existing in a plane of perfume reality that lies just past over-the-top, but is nonetheless composed with heavy-handed balance and grace. Exercising a restrained spray is essential. Read that again. I laugh at myself, bred into the American way of thinking, that if the world entire says to apply two sprays, we in the US of A tend to feel that number should be doubled at the very least. We pride ourselves in all forms of excess, and gloss over any lament from the practice of such gluttony. So, naturally overly joyed with the arrival of a new vintage, I allowed the sprayer to mist my body entire. This baptizing might as well have been the flames of hell's inferno, because the sillage spread through my two-story like smoke from a structure fire. Yeah, I thought I could handle it, and like asking for extra spicy Jerk chicken, my arrogance again betrayed me. Floral components decant effortlessly, and manage to linger in suspension for the better part of eternity. They can either capture exquisite beauty, or suffocate any function encountered - so buyer be warned; and for God's sake, take it one spray at a time! Secondly, we become aware of its masterful blending. Which poses no simple task, as Sung is the sum of an immense menagerie. Flora and fruits harmonize in such a way that's melodically joyful, and validates its name. Yet, if one were so inclined, individual flowers may be plucked for specific analysis. A delightful example of this would be my mother. Being the saint she is, manages to show attention whenever I dribble on about perfumery and the manufacture of its ingredients. She emphatically denied Hyacinth had any odor, and immediately dismissed its scent profile's cogency. I ran to Sung to oppose such a claim. It was exhilarating to watch as her eyes lit up in recognition, and a firm understanding was achieved. Hyacinth and jasmine bust through the opening like the KoolAid man, enveloping the wearer with indolically animalic accords. It's here where bright citrus notes become an equally important counterbalance, offering necessary bitterness to a naturally saccharine construct. The heart projects infinite fields milled with Osmanthus, Galbanum, and soapy-sweet Lily of the Valley. A base of vetiver, oakmoss, and musk provide a funky gravity, while notes of Ylang Ylang, Iris, and Carnation seemingly levitate. The continuity of all its parts comprise a spherical presence that is absolutely breathtaking. Allowing for endless hours of introvert analysis, this fragrance never disappoints to engage me. But if that seems like work to you, fear not. Mindless swooning can still exist peacefully within the orb of its magnificence, and indiscreet charm.

As a amber/spicy/floriental lover myself, I have a hard time finding floral scents that work on my skin, although I’m realizing there are some common themes that help. I’m also realizing that application with a light hand is very important, at least with my skin. That said, Sung is an incredibly delightful white floral. It smells like vanilla-hyacinth from the very beginning, and seems to be staying with that harmony and not developing much. Sung never shrieked on my skin (which is my usual problem); instead, it started immediately with a soft, husky whisper of scent that carries remarkably well for all of its softness. It reminds me of the drydown of Wings, the luscious last hour or so that is lilac with a bit of sandalwood. I don’t know why I’m detecting vanilla in Sung (it’s not listed), but there is a warm, sweet quality to the fragrance—I suppose it could be the orchids, or possibly the nature of the amber used, in combination with the sandalwood. Sniffing my wrist, I get the orange blossom and the lily of the valley; if jasmine is there, it’s faint and not indolic. This is a clean scent, but not a squeaky-clean scent; a comfortable freshness, not an uptight scent. Initially, looking at the notes, I wondered if it would smell like Fidji (another floral I do enjoy, which shares some similar notes—the galbanum, jasmine and hyacinth) but Sung is not as cool as Fidji; and where Fidji got a tad powdery and then a tad indolic, Sung doesn’t move in either direction. However, I think fans of Fidji, and fans of Wings, would enjoy Sung. Other reviewers have gathered images of white lace, white brides, dewy gardens—and I completely concur. This is a wonderful, feminine fragrance with the unusual combination of good sillage and light, soft character; I don’t think you are going to offend anyone by wearing this, but they will notice it. I think this fragrance would work in a variety of situations, from work to social events. Longevity is >4 hours.

I knew I loved this, and purchased the largest bottle. When I sprayed it, it was lethal...Whaaaaaa? It's taken a year, spraying every so often, before I got the scent I fell in love with. I'm so glad I didn't give it away. I might have smelled this lovely, lovely perfume for years on a friend and think it just never worked on me. It's a case of emptying the sprayer. It's clear of the old perfume caught in sprayer and it's just beautiful as ever now. I'm one of few that doesn't find this to be a spring scent. It's just too big and proud for me in the heat, that, and it DOES smell like sparkling things, (tenderhearted) which gives me a vivid image of shopping in the 60's. Tinsel glistening and pastel colors. I don't mean this to read "dated". It can never be dated...ever. This and 5th Ave will always be beautiful, unless of course they tamper with them. I like 5th Ave in the winter also. The fresh cold air just give these two scents to me, a vibrant airy feel. In the heat, even though they are spring scents and flowery, they smell more like flowery perfume instead of just picked flowers. I am not saying these aren't exquisite on everyone that wears them in warm weather. This is just how I enjoy them. I think this is just grand buy for the price. I would imagine this to last around fifty years and be a proud vintage buy for someone in the future. I have nothing to back this up mind you. This is just MY belief. For a comparison, I would put this on a shelf with Avon's Haiku. I feel as most, the hyacinth and lily of the valley stand out. My nose detects the lily of the valley just a bit more....which I find VERY similar to Haiku. Haiku being a light lily of the valley which makes me wear it in the spring or summer more often. Enough! I just need to say I agree with all the reviews that love this as I do. It's a must for a flower loving lady!

Is it possible for a fragrance to be floral, sweet, fruity, clean and powdery all at the same time ?? The initial spray will make you pause, but wait for it...the dry down is a beautifully blended masterpiece. The price is a steal ! This has a comforting scent that I suspect will stay in your core memory forever. It’s one of those scents that tickles the happiest part of your brain. You know the scent...that pretty teacher you loved, the one who when she would lean down to help you with your work left a scent trail around you. Or the fancy carefree aunt you adored, your mother’s hug when she’d get all dressed up for something special, the popular girl in high school who was rich and pretty but also really really nice. This fragrance is both vintage and modern, great for daily wear and could easily be a signature scent. This is for the person who truly appreciates fragrance. I originally purchased this for my 18 year old daughter, but after opening it I knew I needed to order several more bottles. The scent hit me before I even took off the outer wrapper. I sprayed it in the air, and my goodness....love ! (it sprays wonderfully btw) I tapped the excess onto the back of my hand and have been sniffing on myself for hours. I plan to gift this bottle to my 80yr old mom for Mother’s Day, and also gift another bottle to my 18 yr old daughter for her birthday...and I never do this BUT I will also be purchasing a bottle for myself. I am a stern believer in not owning fragrances that I gift to other people, nor do I gift the same fragrance to multiple people, but this just smells too lovely not to share. This is a fragrance that I would get excited about wearing. I’d plan my entire outfit around this gem. Day, night, and every season is when I’d suggest wearing it. I love when I find a fragrance that excites me.

Having boasted of this vintage beauty's aromatic strength in my other perfume reviews, I felt it only politically-correct to justify why, here. Both ladies and men's fragrances in the 1980's were particularly sharp, across the board. Giorgio Beverly Hills, Chanel, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent--nearly all of their top-sellers had the power in a single spray to the pulse points to either turn all eyes in a room onto the wearer, or to sedate an elephant in a single whiff. Formulated in '86, Sung was far from the exception to this principle. It's a prime example of a pure, white floral eau de toilette that holds the sillage of a concentrated parfum. I'm reminded so well of my preferred Haus of Elizabeth Taylor's Gardenia. It's a well-focused stroll through your finest garden of spring lilies, in full bloom, with no syrupy fruits that seem to control the market for younger wearers today. Opening up with dominant lily-of-the-valley and hiacynth, Sung is a fresh, dominantly green formula whose citrus notes add a subtle boost (as though they need it) to the top white florals that remain delightfully steady, even in the drydown. Incidentally, the oakmoss, amber and veniver notes listed in the base of this Fragrantica entry are ones I can barely register, even late into the drydown. As a cautionary note, it's worth mentioning that Alfred Sung's Sung remains today, just as boldly in the 1980's, one of those many fragrances that require an extremely minute amount to bring out the beast within this exquisite bottle. Know that it's not aldehydic or "soapy," but a sharp and fresh bouquet of spring orchids that may not appeal to the young chicks wanting something that resembles candy, fruit juices or sweet citrus. Overall, for the flower-lover, though, it's a dream-come-true!

This Canadian fragrance has captured my heart. I have the modern version of Sung and it’s still very wearable (and affordable) especially if you’re into strictly floral/aldehyde classic feminine fragrances. It was created in 1986 and I’m sure the original is beast mode in comparison but the longevity of mine lasts for a few hours on skin (longer on fabric) and that’s after spraying 20 times. Even after my excessive 20 sprays, no one around me has ever mentioned my fragrance - so the sillage only radiates at a close proximity. So what does it smell like? Sung initially reminds me of JOY as it’s so light, translucent and soaring due to the aldehydes (with lily-of-the-valley being the dominant floral). The top notes sparkle with luminous citruses and yellowed sun-drenched florals from ylang-ylang, galbanum and hyacinth. The heart offers osmanthus, jasmine, iris and lily-of-the valley. The base contains vanilla but it’s not apparent at all as this isn’t a warm fragrance - Sung is it’s more along the lines on No.19 from the sandalwood, amber and vetiver. To summarise, Sung is a predominantly floral fragrance with woody and green nuances of No.19 but crossed with the luscious translucent white/yellow florals of JOY just with boosted lily-of-the-valley. Sung is NOT soapy/spicy or herbaceous as Oscar De La Renta. It’s not as piercingly white as White Diamonds, L’Air Du Temps, First or Red Door. Sung is a sparkling champagne of white and yellow florals that feels light like a sheer veil. I love Sung and picked it up a tester bottle for $25 CAD for 100ml at a discount perfume store and use it liberally as my summertime scent, I just wished it lasted longer.

POW and WOW! this fragrance has been a staple in my scent wardrobe since the late 1990's when I first smelled it on a good friend of mine and ask her right off the bat "what is that awesome perfume you have on"... Fast forward all these years, I still love this perfume and can't even count how many repurchases and gifted (since my family and friends know I love this) Sung to date. It has a longevity that many perfumes nowadays seem to lack for the money that you buy them for. (You can get great buys on Sung in stores like Marshall's, TJ Maxx, ebay, etc)... This is my go-to scent when I have the "when in doubt moments of what to wear that day" -- I just put on a spritz of this and I'm good to go. It's that type of fragrance: a little goes a long, long way through the day. This I put in my "powerhouse" category of fragrances that I love and anyone who knows me, knows I love the "punch ya" perfumes lol ...I love something that you just need a little and it's quality and elegance speaks for itself. So many people in my life love this one - even one of my co-workers had to go out and get a bottle for herself! On my husbands top 10 list of fave scents that I wear. Sung will always give me that happy feeling! And, it always gives me that "I can conquer the world today" feeling :) I love it for all year long (especially in the Fall/Winter; it just seems so much crisper to me) and any environment..some may feel more comfortable with using this as an evening fragrance because of it's strength. Definitely a classic in my book...

I wore this fragrance in the 90s and loved it. I remembered it was more of a citrus scent which I’ve been desperately looking for to wear so I came to this site to read reviews. I’m so glad I did because I was definitely looking for the original Sung and not the remake. Thanks to reviewers here who mentioned Riviera Concepts and being made in Canada I was able to find the original. I received it today and couldn’t wait to open. As soon as I splashed it, I found the splash version, it put a huge smile came on my face. To only did my memory of this beautiful scent come back, but it seemed en more beautiful than I remembered. I do love florals but not sweet florals. I love. Citrus mixed with florals and this one captures all of them. I love all of the florals in this scent. Also from reading these reviews I found an original of Alfred’s Pure EDP and also love it. At first pray it felt strong but 1/2 hour later the dry down is perfect. I am in love with both fragrances. Admittedly I am not as sophisticated as some of the reviewers here I just know what I love in scents. I realize everyone experiences fragrances differently and have specific likes and dislikes. Some of the fragrances in my possession now are Estée Lauder Private Collection Tuberose and Ralph Lauren Romance . I am so excited to have added Alfred Sung and AF Pure to my collection. Next purchase will definitely be Forever if I can find an original production. Thank you again to this community for your reviews.

This is one of the perfumes that gets most complimented when I wear it. Indeed, this 80's powerhouse was my first serious perfume and no matter that I was 16, it fit me to a T! Strong and bold, clean cut and elegant, this lady ( she is a lady to me anyways) is carefree yet polished. Vintage gold candle holders, crystal Swarovsky jewelry, multi-faceted mirrors and opulent sunny rooms overlooking the sea is what I imagine when smelling this elixir. My Lady is bright and airy like a balmy early morning walking on the beach. She lingers even after her departure and I am left with a clean whiff of salt air, warm sand, fresh Sambac Jasmine and tender Lilac buds( that is how I percieve the Lily of the Valley in the composition).Bubbly and effervescent, she is like a fine sparkling wine during the opening. Her presence then warms up with unsuspected smoldering depth. Ylang Ylang and Galbanium take her from floral fresh to Floriental amber. I am mystified! Still luminous, her morning has settled into day with more opulence and her night begins with a rich Vanilla: the type you get from the pod, not the sweet factory. It is now rich and bold, vetivier softened by orange and sandal wood . She dries down with a sunset of pure amber and something akin to pralines (to my nose). This beloved fragrance is filled with magic for me and wearing it, I always feel polished and feminine , classy and demure. Give her a try before she vanishes... she is ever so worth it!

This was a power scent in 1986, and I have worn it since it came out. It is a very complicated white floral with a slightly bitter greeness that gives it a watery edge. I smell the Hyacinth right away, then the sharp citrus and bitter Galbanum drop you over the edge into the richness of YlangYlang. Middle notes I pick up the most on are the Iris and Orchid. Underneath are the woods/musk and Orange Blossom giving it LOOOOONGEVITY! I don't really get any distinctive Rose or Vanilla. It gives me a Summery feel--but not an innocent picnic-in-the-park, more like cocktails-in-Malibu. Think of Krystal Carrington in a white dress with shoulder pads dripping diamonds and hosting a dinner-party by the pool on a sultry evening. It is sparkling like a dry champagne. But it is heady like a Southern garden. This is too classy for light daytime wear. Maybe with a business suit or a shopping spree at Tiffany's. I think it fits into the White Diamonds category, but I don't like White Diamonds (smells cheaper than Sung to me). This scent smells like stepping out of a limo. It will always be on my dressing table with the "fancy-dress-up-going-out" bottles. But sometimes I want to be a rebel and give it a spray when I am Netflix binging in my sweats.......

SAUCY HYACINTH - with Vintage Exotic Vibe. There's a lot going on here, but this is how I experience the notes: opens with a burst of hyacinth & ylang supported by citruses & galbanum, that deepens into the floral bouquet heart highlighting lily-of-the-valley, jasmine & carnation, which all rests on a floral support base including oakmoss. Overall I get a hyacinth scent, with other notes recognizable but serving to support and enhance aspects of hyacinth. Contrast to Anais Anais Cacharel: These are different, but there are striking similarities with hyacinth. However the overall effect is different and Sung is a saucier more exotic leaning version of Anais Anais, and doesn't have the powder-puff vibe present in Anais Anais. Roughly equivalent performance, or slighty better for Sung. Contrast to Neiges Lise Watier: These are different, but again there are striking similarities but a different overall effect. In Neiges you do get the vibe of snow, while Sung leans a little more spicy & saucy. Roughly equivalent performance. Overall: gorgeous vintage hyacinth scent with above average performance. It's a love for me. Sophisticated cheapie: Enjoy!

This has been a favorite of mine for about 15 years, when a friend of my husband's introduced it to me. Sung was a fragrance he bought repeatedly for his girlfriend and another friend's wife. When I complimented one of them on it in his presence, the next day he gifted one of his many 'back up' 3.4 oz bottles to me. It was the Rivera Concepts (vintage) version. I have about 1/8th of a bottle left after all this time, and just ordered a vintage bottle I found on ebay for when this one runs out. I'm sure the newer formulation is fine, but why take the chance? This is the one I love and that evokes memories...the friend has since passed away, but the fragrance takes me back to the good times we all had together. It's a heady floral with lily-of-the-valley, hyacinth, jasmine, carnation and more - all in full bloom. A sillage monster, you don't need a lot of it, but it's like a cloud of spring surrounding you. There's just enough oakmoss and sandalwood to ground it and a lovely bergamot keeps it sparkling rather than suffocating. I just love Sung. Happiness in a bottle.

Sung is a absolutely gorgeous blend of greens and LOTV... I get a bit of a aquatic vibe off it as well. It's just great. But it is loud and proud floral. People call it "white floral" but personally I'd say it's a "green floral." Yes, the LOTV stands out, but those greens and powdery sandalwood shine as bright as a "A-list" movie star in a supporting role. Just beautiful. Not much else I can say that other reviewers haven't already addressed. I will say that it layers surprisingly well with other fragrances. You wouldn't think so because of how loud it is by itself, but I stumbled into success layering it with Kim Kardashians Fluer fatal and the other time I layered it with a kuumba made sandalwood oil. Both these methods added some depth to Sung and helped soften that LOTV. Great silage, great longevity. And increases the longevity of anything you layer it with. Could easily be pulled off any time of year although spring or summer come to mind if wearing it alone.

Beautiful fragrance. During Covid, I, like many other Fragrantica-philes, purchased numerous perfumes based on whatever note I was obsessed with at the time. I explored any hyacinth frags including a vintage Avon fragrance. This big one opens up with the blast of hyacinth, and evolves into something else. While the hyacinth stays prominent, the spices and galbanum come out. Note: This is a cool/cold fragrance. While the spices are present, they are not warm. As a huge and long-time fan of Chanel 19, I prefer the cooler scents to warmer ones during warm weather days (which are plentiful in California, where I live). The comparison to Georgio and many others are inaccurate because of the coolness and lack of the over abundance of while floral. This one dries down to a floral light version of lair du temps due to the spice and carnation. Look for the vintage bottles, the fragrance is intact and true to the vision of the maker. 8/10

I have the men's version and my mom has this so I thought i'd give my opinion. It is slightly reminiscent of Cacharel's Anais Anais but with out the bubble bath suds, clean hotel towel smell. Also a bit more modern, summer-like and wearable. It's also more versatile age group wise. I think It would smell amazing on a younger girl/woman because of it's clean, fresh, "innocent" quality it has. I get some peach even though it's not in it and something slightly spicy with bucket loads of orange blossoms and jasmine. Definitely a white floral for sure. The drydown is mostly what you smell at the beginning with sandalwood and a tiny bit of vanilla. I don't think the vanilla works too well because to me it gives a corn tortilla type smell. Longevity and sillage are off the charts. So if you want a good everyday summer white floral, pick up a 3.4 ounce bottle of this baby and it'll last you a while. You'll be glad you did.

I never get tired of the bombastic oriental florals of Sung! This was my husband's signature scent and the one he wore at our wedding 30 years ago if I remember correctly. I just realized that he was wearing the woman's version after getting it today! He worked his teenage years and part of college summers in a high end department store as a night janitor where he had full access to all the fragrance testers in the beauty department. I learned layering from him. He loved, loved, loved big scents so much that my son refuses to wear colognes to this day because hugs from his dad left him breathless from silage! Literally! And Sung has some of the biggest car and room filling boosted scents of hyacinth, water lily, jasmine with citrus in Sung. The powdery dry down with the sandalwood is what I pick up afterwards. A little goes a long way and the price can't be beaten. This is so timeless and so overlooked.

I fell hard and fast for this one, delighted by how sweet it grew on my skin. It first reminded me of Chloe Chloe (brown box)- only if that were mixed with cinnamon between opening and dry down. I know that's the carnation and hyacinth. Jasmine and ylang take over, with vanilla and amber just behind them as everything else recedes. Just like flowers on the beach. Then comes the sweetness. The next week it was, sadly, irritatingly sharp and wouldn't settle for anything. I'm positive that this was a combination of factors. So this is more temperamental than I've yet experienced but we can work it out. Today, I lightly sprayed a little and waved my arm through, and there it was again. That classic, beachy floral I first met. *7/20 Due to a personal association with an amazing baby animal that's come into my life and a sunscreen that smells exactly like Sung, this scent will be forever special to me.

The Sung EDT with the black cap as shown here is but a pale comparison to the original Sung by Sung Eau de parfum with its gold cap and which I absolutely adored! I first purchased it in Toronto Canada's Eaton when it first came out. I still remember the beautiful scent wafting through the halls and when I made it to the store (don't remember the name) there was a giant pyramid made of the Sung by Sung boxes. I was in heaven! When I came back to the states everyone seem to love it and would ask what I was wearing :) it hadn't hit the states yet. Sadly I've been stuck with the EDT...it's better than nothing :( The EDT is like looking at a photograph and remembering, it's just not the same as the real thing. Sigh* Update: I found someone in Canada who had a few and I purchased 2 bottles of the edp and 2 of the original edt :)

Sung is sparkling, gorgeous, and has turned into a giant LOVE for me! A green floral bouquet -- hyacinth/lily of the valley/jasmine + pungent, almost smoky ylang ylang and bitter galbanum notes (blended with a little oakmoss) to offset the heady floral notes. I love this perfume and was immediately reminded of another little talked about, inexpensive gem -- also from back in the 1980's -- Paul Sebastian's Design. Design is actually a little less challenging and in-your-face than Sung, though, being a simpler, gentler blend of basically tuberose and civet. And, I see why folks detect similarities between Sung and Giorgio (the tuberose and oakmoss) but Giorgio has a suffocating quality whereas Sung is just a strong, green, smoky, sophisticated floral blend. Mmmmmmmm...!!! :)

Ounce/ml for ounce/ml the Best bang for the Buck is, SUNG FEMME! I love the powerful floral opening, it is so Fresh and transfixing! When I smell this I'm hypnotized and stress leaves my body. For me, this is a very arousing sent. Fragrances are subjective, but this is a must try! Don't let the price fool you! If this was CD or YSL you'd be paying 6x as much and think it was a steal! 04/13/20 P.S. Sung Homme is a Gem as well. The rare instance where both Homme and Femme are equally amazing; Like CK Obsession for Men and Women *(OF). * Original Formula 05/10/20 *The drydown is. even better! *Great on any aged woman! *Nice projection and longevity *O.F./O. Although Sung is not similar to Truth or Dare or 5th Avenue, it does produce a similar effect on me, which is instant white & yellow floral inebriation, glorious wooziness from a staggering blast of heady floral, green and citrus accords. This is a classic, elegant, intense floral that will surely make you stand out in a massive sea of gourmands and syrupy sweets. Also this is a COLD fragrance. This is spraying yourself with a crisp, alpine breeze, perfect for the warm months. It is refreshing, quickening you out of your caramel-induced slumber. This is not subtle. This is assertively feminine. It is icy and aloof. As much as I live to overspray, even I know that a little goes a long way with this one. Spray modestly.

I just got a vintage bottle of this at Value Village. $15.00 CDN. I tell you Value Village is the place to buy perfumes. I have amassed quite a collection and almost have All of the 80's powerhouses from going there all the time and checking out their perfume and toiletries section. I also have very little competition for them as most of the ladies who shop there aren't really into perfumes like I am. If it was a Value Village in Ontario I would have alot of competing buyers who also collect perfumes. I must have bought at least 25 perfumes from there now. Living in a small town (Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, CAN), here has got it's advantages as the people just aren't into perfumes much here. More for me.

I blind bought this mainly based on the reviews and the exceptional deal I got on it. I have to say I'm thrilled I did! Wow is it bold, especially for an EDT and coming from me that is saying something! I love most of the "monster" fragrances, ala Opium, Black Orchid, etc... The initial spritz is very floral almost lotion or shampoo but then it really begins to bloom! I get Hyacinth, gardenia, and rose, mmmm just a wonderful bouquet! Someone else said it best, spring in a bottle. I will definitely keep this one in rotation! I'm just tickled, lovely, strong and best of all affordable. Great for all ages!

This perfume was MY perfume, the One that makes me feel like the real me when wearing it, a true perfume love. I first discovered it at 18 , on the plane going to Canada, to visit relatives. I wore it for many years and it was my signature scent. I 'm so sad it's discontinued. I still have a bottle or two that I only wear for extra special days. It is floral to the max and zesty at first, but in the dry down the Jasmine, YlangYlang and oak moss simmer, producing a confidence boosting, sexy and womanly aroma. Here in Ireland it wasn't well known and still to this day get compliments whenever I wear it.

Oh, Alfred....where have you been all my life!? I am late to the perfume sampling game, having worn one fragrance, Rive Gauche, almost exclusively for the past 40 years but decided in my later years (it's never too late) to make it my hobby to try out and enjoy others that I never knew. I find myself drawn to the 80's perfumes and this is one of the best I've found... a masterpiece of lily of the valley and jasmine. Bears some resemblance to Alien. I would venture to say that, in vintage form, this is the most beautiful fragrance I've ever smelled...I'm so glad I finally met you, Mr. Sung.

On me, the sweet Hyacinth blasts then it very quickly settles to a mostly carnation and amber scent, strong but not overwhelming and a very warm smell that is spicy clove-ish enough not to be cloying. I've smelled it on others though and it can smell strong, harsh and chemical. 4 friends tested and compared it together over several hours and it was hard to believe it was the same fragrance we were wearing. I'd try wearing it on skin for several hours before buying since it seems to change up so much depending on who is wearing it.

Sung is amazing! I bought the 1.0 fl oz size of this for $5.00 on clearance at Marshall's. When I first spray this on my skin, it has a very strong floral, spicy smell (rich, mature, almost old-ladyish), but an hour after it dries down and mingles with my skin chemistry, the creamy floral and soapy base surfaces, and it smells wonderful. Sung is a very classy perfume. It's so strong that one spritz is all I need. It's perfect for evening wear. It smells expensive, and I can't believe I only paid $5.00 for it.

OK, this perfume was born in 1986...shoulder pads and geometric earrings aside, I have always found it to be a sharp green floral rather than white and to me (and on me thank goodness) it has a very watery scent like waterlily or lotus. Broke it out today for the second +60 degree day in a row and I needed something Spring-y. Hits the spot! Definitely has the sillage and the wearwithal, but it is one of those scents that if you do it right, it is new all over again. Guess that makes it a "classic" then huh?

Bought this today as another blind buy at TJ Maxx, in a tiny bottle. On first sniff it seems like warm, creamy, dark floral. When I close my eyes I see a room with windows covered by black lace curtains looking out onto a stormy sea, velvet chairs, pearl-grey wallpaper ... and beautiful dark-haired women leaning over a big vase of gardenias. I kept thinking it reminded me of something, then it came to me: White Shoulders! This scent reminiscent of a knowing look between long-time lovers. I think I love it.

This is my 5th alfred sung perfume. I am consistently impressed by this house. I don't smell anything oily or greasy in the bottle I received. The opening is similar to Issey Miyakes blast of green and bright, sweet white flowers. The green note hangs on for about 2 hours then comes the most beautiful, slightly musky, lotv&hyacinth in the drydown... I have the newest formula and it is STRONG with impressive sillage. What an amazing, affordable gem! Perfect for the white floral lovers out there : )

I first tried this 4 years back in a walmart after christmas mark down. I was FLOORED. I never had so many compliments. Never had so many strangers ask me what i was wearing. It became (and still is) my signature, daily scent that is 'me'. I buy it two and three bottles at a time. I pray to God they never stop making this gem. It is a crisp, green floral to me. Not sweet, or fruity. It is almost sharp, at first. And so little goes a long way. If i put it on my jacket or coat, it stays for days.

This is such stunningly elegant white floral!I immediately recognized this scent as one I had smelled many times back in the day on many classy elegant women. I never knew what it was. It is a bit potent at first but soon after, it is divine!! You only need a couple of sprays, much like the scents from this era. The dry down is gorgeous! The hiacynth is the star of this show, making it perfect for the spring time! I can’t believe I haven’t owned this before! This is right up my alley!!!

I wore this in the '80s and '90s and got more compliments on it than any other perfume I've ever worn. A friend once said, "That Sung smells so good on you!" And that was the secret: it was as though it had been especially formulated to go with my body chemistry. As much as my friends loved it, they couldn't wear it. The Sung I've bought in the last 10 years is just not the same. The magic is missing. I have never found anything that to replace it or that gets the compliments this did.

I got a vintage bottle of Sung thrown in with a lot of dusty vintages someone was selling for a song, and I am pretty impressed. If it didn't have such a complex ambery, mossy, woody base, and the spice of carnation, and the bouquet of citruses, the white florals would be too much for me, because I don't love hyacinth or orchid. But I do love osmanthus and ylang ylang, which give a hint of exotic sweetness. This strikes me as a refined scent with a very individual character.

A real beauty! Definitely a favorite. Sunny. Vintage without smelling dated. Wonderful hyacinth note and complimentary citrus. Ylang-ylang! Nothing is out of place or competing. Beautifully blended florals--a little spicy, a little powdery, a bit green. The base notes come in and the whole thing is just really sophisticated and exuberant. A strong perfume that lasts. I have a newer formulation and imagine the vintage would be just as enjoyable.

I'm a big fan of Sung, but a recently purchased bottle of this smelled a little musty. I'm not sure if that's due to an unfortunate reformulation, or an old bottle. If it smells musty, wait for another bottle. Sung is strong, but it's not musty; it's a pure blast of flowers and green. I also don't necessarily agree this scent isn't for a "younger" woman. If you respond to a scent, it's for you. Very simple.

It has definitely been reformulated. I tracked down a vintage bottle recently, and it was worth it (still quite affordable). The vintage ones were made by "Riviera Concept," so use that in your search on eBay. The vintage is just richer and speaks to the emotions, whereas the new version is merely a pretty perfume. It's "Wow vs. Meh" which happens all the time in reformulations.

Am doing a comparison test to Carner Barcelona Sweet William right now. Sung has 2x the performance for 10% of the price and they smell so similar I can barely tell them apart. (A little more spice to the Sweet William.) I've probably owned more bottles of Sung than any other fragrance. It's classy and should be a staple in any woman's fragrance wardrobe.

My wife purchased this recently, it should be called Jasmine bomb! I love this fragrance on her. Although sweetheart go easy on the spraying. The whole house has the wonderful scent of white flowers, sandalwood, white musk, or maybe she did that on purpose, used it as a room spray? Well, it certainly does smell lovely and springtime in our home.

this fragrance is pure nostalgia for me. it has been my mom's signature scent since before i can even remember and i've always loved it! i've never really been a fan of spicy scents but this will always be an exception because it's just so classy and elegant, it's spicy yet soft and floral at the same time? it will always be a favorite for me!

This is my favorite scent ever. I've never bought the same perfume again, but I feel I can't be without it. Sitting at my dull office desk all day, I take a whiff on my wrist and immediately feel life is worth living again, if such a beautiful thing can be created. Thank you Sung, you are my song.

This is a strong, jasmine-forward floral accompanied by light, uplifting citrus notes and a woody-amber base. Projection and sillage of the white florals die down after about 3 hours and the peppery vetiver and sandalwood become more noticeable. Honestly I love wearing this one to the office.

I fell in love with this when it first came out, and I wore it religiously -with countless compliments- until '99-ish. After my son was born, it just didn't seem to smell the same on me. My own chemistry undoubtedly changed. I still love the way it smells on others, but not on me.

Sung is a classy and feminine beauty. I am delighted with this blind buy. This floral bouquet has everything. Sweet jasmine, green hyacinth, soapy lily-of-the-valley, spicy carnation, and sunny ylang ylang. And if that weren't enough, sparkling citrus notes pop in the background.

Elegant, alluring, and refined - and seriously sexy. I imagine the person who wears this to be cool as a cucumber on the surface and a bubbling volcano underneath. Warning, it is potent. A few sprays will last all night. Vintage version reviewed.

Wow. What a fantastic surprise!!! I bought this based on notes and strength alone. I bought it in the fall and waited until spring to try it. I started to get rid of it. No way! The hyacinth is amazing and the cloud it creates is intoxicating!

10/10 for the vintage version made by Rivera Concepts. 1/10 for the current version made by Elizabeth Arden.

a beautiful balmy green fragrance. The drydown is spicy yet fresh. Defenitely worth a sniff.

This is the only perfume that draws compliments EVERYTIME I wear it!
