Falling Stars on Winter Solstice

After many years living in the forested US I've been looking for scents that capture the essence of walking through pine groves. Some are too sharp and over the top (Fille en Aiguilles), others have too much going on and try to downplay the conifer (Sensuous Nude), others try to mold it into a new image (Dark Rebel Rider). And let's not forget the harsh olfactory assault that is Christmas scented candles. Falling Stars on Winter Solstice is the closest I can find to that true evergreen balsamic scent. There are clear associations here with Christmas wreaths, but also if you can look past that and imagine treading on soft pine-needle-carpeted trails as the late summer sun warms the bleeding sap, there is magic to be felt. The resins are not overly refined - as if you leaned against a tree and got pungent, sticky sap all over your hand, tried to wipe it off with a leaf, and as a result will now smell like a forest for a week. Only this way you don't have to get sticky. There is just enough smoke without smelling like a total campfire. This scent is so comforting and spiritual, completely unisex, a delight all around.

Whoa! I'm in love. This is Midnight Mass. Its the middle of the night, all is calm, and the luminosity growing over Advent leads to this moment of splendor. Evergreens twinkling with lights surround the Crucifix. Ancient and soothing incense burning to sanctify and venerate. Sitting in the front pew you can smell the warmth of the burning candles and the smoke rising from the wick. The joy is overwhelming. I gotta get a full bottle!

Evergreen Christmas. Touch of smokiness when on my skin, but it's a nice, mild incense (if you're any variation of Catholic, you'll recognise the incense - myrrh and frankincense). I live in the tropics now, so I'll treasure this when it's December but still hot and humid where I live.

Of all the samples I received from Alkemia, this is probably my favorite. It's a nice holiday scent and very authentic in what it seeks to achieve. I definitely smell the firs/pine. My only issue is that it doesn't seem to last as long as the other scents.

Amazing musky and smoky fir, well-balanced, gorgeous and stable. Got it as a sample and definitely buying it.

This is like the tarot card of the people lost outside in the snow, looking up at a stained glass church window. Comfort is in reach with this scent, but you need to get out of the cold. The snow note is spot on- it's like a trick of the light, I think it would be reminiscent of the smell of melting snow even you didn't know it was supposed to be there. The other notes just smack you with pure holiday season.

Despite snow being one of the notes, I actually find this quite warm-smelling. I agree with WST that it's almost candle-like at points, without going overboard. Just something about pine/fir + smoke + sweetness reads Christmas candle-ish. There's also something very creamy to it, perhaps the musk? I do like it, just wish it were a bit less sweet.

I ended up sampling this because the name and image that they used caught my attention. It's too soapy and musky for me to wear, I would rather use it as an air freshner

This gets a lot of good reviews and I saw a second hand bottle on ebay. This smells like a christmas Yankee Candle. It becomes slightly less pungent after 10 minutes, but I can't smell anything apart from candle.

The only note on me was musty. Eau de basement. Maybe it needs a moist or warm environment to bloom, but it's dry, cold winter here and now and this one isn't for me at all.

I bought this scent after reading so many reviews on the forum comparing it to a pine-fir forest, to the lush and magical Pacific North West and I had envisioned magical forest faeries dancing in the cool air. I was ready to love it. I loved it since before I bought it. But then I received it, opened the bottle and took a deep breath.... (where's the meh emoji?) This is DEAD ON an Irish Spring soap dupe. I am not exaggerating. Many years ago, the original owner of the bath and body etailer Cleanse Your Soul, Judy, carried a line of products scented in Irish Spring soap dupe. I love the smell of the soap, so I got creams and scrubs in the scent. They were superbly strong and long lasting. This is 100% that same fragrance. Despite my love of Irish Spring soap years ago, I wasn't expecting something as poetic sounding as "Falling Stars on Winter Solstice" to smell like deodorant soap. This wasn't an ethereal winter wonderland. There's no myrrh, no snow, no resin. It's Irish Spring soap. Since it smells quite clean, I diluted it in water a few drops at a time and diffused it in a cool mist diffuser. It was too strong for my small home office (even diluted) so I the diffuser in the great room and it scented the entire house. I loooove soapy fragrances. In fact, I seek them out: Elie Saab Neroli, Ferrari Bright Neroli, Serge Lutens Laine de Verre, Penhaligon Castile, Fresh Laundry & Lavender, Philosophy Pure Grace. I treasure them, I need them. This one certainly didn't live up to the magical forest fantasy I was expecting. But it wasn't a waste because I enjoyed it as home scent.

first whiff it’s reminiscent of lapsang souchong tea from the smoke and the balsam needles, but its lacking the scent of roasted meat (thank god). it has this like cold freshness to it, like night air, you can’t necessarily smell the melted snow but you can feel it instead. (this perfume is wildly out of my usual comfort zone so i dont really know how to describe what im smelling.) there’s also like this twinge of sweetness coming from the myrrh. smells like looking outside the foggy window on christmas eve to watch the snow fall

I liked this. It’s a soapy jasmine on a base of something vaguely nutty and edible, an interesting combo. I’m guessing the jasmine is supposed to represent a cold, winter solstice night and the nutty base is supposed to be something homely and vaguely reminiscent of the cooking smells in your house. I also really appreciate that the nutty base doesn’t overshadow the jasmine, which is the star of the perfume.

Pine Bayberry Christmas air freshener or candle. Slightly waxy pine, hint of spices, suggestion of peppermint to give it that cool 'snow' feeling. It's certainly nice but it's not a perfume. I definitely feel like I'm wearing an air freshener for most of it. Full dry down it has very nice balsam and resins, much more like it sounds in the description, but it still smacks of Christmas candle overall.

This one is definitely a winter frag. A bit of Christmastime in a bottle. Lots and lots of evergreen with a touch of incense and a soft, musky drydown.
