Mist Becoming Rain

Lots of good reviews here, which I’ll include snippets of here and there in my own review. @AMDDD isn’t wrong in that Mist Becoming Rain is a bit strange to wear by itself--even if you are a “flower power person”, which is how I have been described a time or two, but in other, less kind words. This scent is a “like” by itself, but its layering potential bumps it up to a “love”, at least for me. Mist Becoming Rain is one of the few scents that I’ve jumped straight from 0.7 mL sample to 30 mL full bottle. If I want to add a “wet / rain” flair to another scent, this is my go-to. Mist Becoming Rain plays especially nice with scents that have significant greenery--Gaea being one of my favorites to layer it with (thank you, @CaliforniaPoppy for the tip). It layers decently with Baccante, but I definitely prefer the combination of Gaea + Mist Becoming Rain. Be warned: @tessture is correct that it does tend to have a very slight mildew edge to it--which strangely enough, I find intriguing instead of repulsive (at least for my spring wearings). I strongly suspect that the stronger the weather (either colder winter or super hot summer), the more likelihood that it will pull that mildew edge. Like they mentioned, it is indeed atmospheric and evocative, and perhaps even “somber” as mentioned by two other reviewers below. @Herestoshuttingup is spot-on about how certain notes play out on my skin--like her, I also don't get much powder from the orris or much ambergris. Additionally, I agree with her assessment of Mist Becoming Rain being unisex, but not at all masculine. Longevity is true moderate, lasting by itself for around just under 5 hours. Projection is intimate for most of the wearing, save for perhaps the first 15 minutes or so. Season is whenever you want to experience some petrichor, though I personally agree that “spring” is its natural best fit. Overall, Mist Becoming Rain is another beautiful atmospheric by Alkemia that is definitely worth sampling (either in the tiny vial, or with a 5 mL if you need more time to make up your mind).

The moment I spritzed it I got a flashback to the tiny plant and flower shop we used to go to when I was a kid and we were on our way to some kind of Sunday brunch to see one family member or another, and we forgot to bring something so we needed a bouquet asap. It's not flowery at all, but you know that piercing green, cold-ish, but lovely scent those shops full of plants in water buckets have? That's exactly it. It is quite iris-forward and powdery in the dry-down though, which is still lovely, but for me the initial fresh aquatic smell could have lasted longer. It was gone in about 15 minutes.

Mist Becoming Rain is an excellent "clean" scent. I love it. It smells like freshly washed clothes without being too soapy or floral, and it doesn't have the skin musk notes a lot of scents in this genre have (I hate skin musk on myself). Personally I don't get much powder from the orris or much ambergris; the clean, aquatic notes are front and center here. I'd say its unisex, but not at all masculine.

One of my favorite offerings from Alkemia so far. This scent makes me feel washed in the ocean, like I'm walking along the shores of one of the greater lakes, like the lonely woman who tends the lighthouse. As others have noted, this is a fantastic layering scent, but I think it stands strongly on its own as well. In fact it got me the ultimate praise; a compliment from my wife.

This is an interesting purchase. I bought it to find an alternative aquatic and while this isn’t it it’s defiantly unique. It is literally an aquatic as in, nothing beachy or fun or synthetic about it. It literally smells like water and wet earth. The name is perfect, because it smells like a lakeside right before it rains or in the early morning. When you smell it you can hear the loons singing, the frogs croaking and a paddle of a boat gently making its way. It’s very oily and actually feels warm when it hits your skin. One reviewer described it as somber which is a great description. Not a sadness but kind of a deep longing and nostalgia. Careless and curious days getting dirty and playing outside. I think it’s a bit strange to wear on its own, unless your kind of a flower power person, but it’s great for layering with some florals to give them another more natural dimension. Whenever I feel like wearing it I was my body with lavender soap so I get a earthy, garden scent. It is defiantly a springtime scent, during the April showers we have here it Texas. I really don’t wear it unless I’m going hiking and/or bike riding or having a evening picnic at the park . Kind of sets the mood. It’s a decent scent, but one I think has limited scope and is better for layering.

The scent upon spraying smells like fresh cut grass, which turns into incense, like walking into a crystal shop with a bit of mildew after sitting on my skin for awhile. I find this perfume to be stronger than others I've sprayed in the "petrichor" genre of perfumes so far (which is like 2 so far). the smell feels damp maybe a bit mildew-y. I think it was different from what I expected, it wasn't what I was looking for, I cant tell if I like how "green" this smells personally. I think I'll test it again I do sort of enjoy the damp smell. I've come back and I'm wearing it on a much hotter night and it smells the same, but now that I've sat with it a little longer I am fond of the damp and incenses' smells. I got less grass smell this time so there's that. I see myself coming back to this sample more in the future.

This has a stronger ‘fresh’ classic cologne smell that I wasn’t quite expecting. Though the petrichor is very present and overall it’s an interesting and decent scent.

Melancholy in a bottle. And i love to be melancholic on a gloomy rainy day.

Scent isn't terrible it smells like a forest path after it rains. My issue is that the scent does not hold very well. I also have the oil form so it may be different as a perfume. Still searching for the perfect petrichor scent.

It's absolutely lovely, very wet and grassy, but only for 10 minutes or so on me, then it dries into something flowery and rather flat. If it held the aquatic notes for longer, i'd get a full-size, but not like this.

I like how this smells in the sample vial - very grassy, like you just tore grass under your nose, so green almost to the point of becoming blue. Torn aquatic plants, maybe, if pretty artificial smelling. On my skin, however, it's a different story. The grass immediately disappears, and I'm left with a powdery aldehyde scent that smells like fabric softener and potpourri. I get the orris/ambergris/sage, but there's something quite soapy about it. After a little while that detergent-like smell calms down a little, but it's still a powdery, musky, orris/sage scent and the water and green notes never return. Thankfully, the remaining scent dissipates rather quickly. I have found that this happens with Alkemia perfumes, that they completely change on my skin. I respect the brand, but I've found the quality of their perfumes to be pretty lacking, unfortunately. Maybe this will work for someone with different skin chemistry, but I'm planning to give away my sample. 4/10.

sigh.. i wish petrichor fragrances could focus less on trying to capture the dirt of it (overdoing this makes things smell like mildew, imo) and focus more on the actual.. stone? This smells like mud, not fun splashy mud, but thick gross mud.

Reminds me of...toilet cleaner??

My white whale, sort of. I had a sample vial of this many years ago and it ruined me. In the vial, I smelled what I guess was ozone — a mysterious scent with a piercing quality I can’t readily put into words. Electric. Atmospheric. All those maddeningly vague descriptions I hated in perfume descriptions, I finally understood. I dabbed some on my skin. Voila: instant baby powder. I was heartbroken. I’ve tried samples of other aquatic scents since then, hoping to get what I smelled in the vial, but nothing compares.

This is a lovely scent, but something about it made me feel... somber. It is a metallic aquatic and evoked a feeling of slightly cold dampness to me. A literal smell of precipitation, like right before it rains or snows. More of a literal novelty fragrance, this is something fun to whiff out of the vial to change a mood but maybe not a day to day scent.

I don't know if there's something wrong with my sample or my nose or what... but instead of being an aquatic, grassy frag like the scent description and reviews suggest, to me this smells like straight up bath and body works holiday candle. I'm so confused lol

smells exactly like a flower shop - damp flowers sitting in water and cold damp air inside. its really light on my nose, very relaxing. i enjoyed sampling this as an experience but it's not something that suits me personally.

Wet greenery, grass, dirt, and something like concrete. Very atmospheric, evocative, but the greeness has a slight mildew edge on my skin that I'd rather not smell like.
