What a great unisex scent to raise your spirits on a cool grey day. It immediately reminded me of Byredo Pulp but more resinous and mellow. The tart fruity blackcurrant is very obvious on the opening. What a bargain price for what is such a classy and sophisticated fragrance. It lasts for many hours (extrait parfum strength) with up to an arms length sillage. Who wants to stink out a room. Fragrance is not for everyone and its more important that I savour this lovely. I highly recommend if seeking a grown ups, unisex fruity fragrance to cheer you up on grey days. Tangy, mellow fruitfulness that's elegant and refined.

This juice is DARK — it left a very slight cast on my (admittedly extremely pale) skin and it seems like it could stain clothing. Mistress of Misrule starts out quite resinous and the note initially feels overwhelming. Happily, the black currant comes forward quite a bit in the dry-down, and the resin recedes and lets the fruity note do its thing. The fruit aspect gets progressively more lighthearted and playful during the later stages of the perfume's journey, to the point where after a couple of hours it smells like there's a blueberry note tucked in there somewhere. Alkemia does fruit-forward wintertime scents quite well, and Mistress of Misrule is true to form — it feels equal parts fruity and festive. To my nose, scents that incorporate a strong fruit note often feel juvenile, but this fragrance is complex and mature enough to satisfy wearers of any age. The resinous aspect gives Mistress of Misrule the energy of a classic galbanum-heavy chypre, albeit a mannerly one with very intimate projection. A solid, inoffensive-but-still-interesting choice for social engagements this holiday season. [A note on availability: At the time of writing (December 2023), this is available as part of the Holiday Gift Set on Alkemia's website. From what I can figure out, they bring this one back in a limited quantity every holiday season.]
