Temptation

One of my absolute favourite scents. It smells to be of very realistic cake with delicate, violet frosting. It is also very long lasting, as many Alkemia scents are. It really surrounds you in a delicious bubble.

This is like almond cookies with powdery candied violets. I don't get much white chocolate but it's more noticeable on the dry down. This also lasts FOREVER on my skin, quite strong for a perfume oil.

I always thought that perfume oils were pure aromatherapy for me: nice to sniff from the bottle, but not to be worn as a real perfume, since most of all they just smell like "perfume oil" to me: unsubtle, homemade, with a flat mineral base that I don't like. Sampling Temptation has made me change my mind about that: for true gourmands at least it might be the perfect format. It's a perfume category that's unsubtle anyway, so I think it benefits from the homemade, straightforward, outlandishly lifelike edible quality that the oil form can offer: if you're going to smell like a piece of candy, you might as well go all the way. And Temptation ticks all the boxes: it's exactly the kind of decadent, realistic, sugary gourmand that I'd never wear outside, but love at home, especially in the colder months. A guilty pleasure, but without much guilt. In the opening especially it is wonderful: it truly smells 100% like a real macaron. I would have guessed a raspberry-flavoured one, but candied violet is plausible as well. That sugary doughy delicious macaron scent unfortunately only lasts for half an hour or so, but what remains is great as well: alongside the violet a powdery white chocolate gradually becomes more dominant, until the violet disappears altogether and the drydown ends up more generically vanillic but still very nice. So it looks like I might end up with at least one perfume oil I actually wear in my collection after all: this one is going straight to my wishlist...

This is such a scrumptious violet macaron scent from the bottle and upon application. I really wish that scent combo stuck around longer than for just a few minutes. The macaron scent leaves quickly and the great majority of this scent’s life is violet, very similar to the kind of violet in Choward’s old fashioned violet mints, if you have ever had them. It is a nice smell and does stick around for at least 5-6 hours; I’ll get little wisps of the white chocolate sneaking in here and there, but this is mostly violet on me.

Edible violets, candied for sure. I love the femininity of this scent. If you like femininity of Bvlgari scents like Pour Femme or Splendida Iris d'Or, you'll love this more gourmand edible female scent that makes you at once want to snuggle or sneak away for a girl's brunch, or meet a dishy date for a cocktail. But... it's VERY sweet. I bought a full bottle with atomizer, and now I think it's too sweet, even for me.

I got a sample of this and for some reason I was convinced there was a cherry note, like I was kind of shocked when I went to the website and didn’t see cherry lol. That’s the first thing I smelt, maraschino cherries. Once it dries down and fades a bit that’s when you start to get those cookie and chocolate notes a bit more.

Violet and white chocolate my butt. This is 100% marzipan-almond. It's lovely, very gourmand. I guess there's a hint of violet/powderiness but it is absolutely a gourmand.

Powdery violet. Extremely powdery, almost ever-so-slightly indolic violet. I despise the note of violet, so I can't handle fragrances that contain it, even if it's slightly detectable. I ordered this anyways, well it came apart of a sample set and I was excited to try this and had high hopes because of the French macaron and white chocolate note. Macarons are my favorite dessert of all time, so I really tried to put my violet hate aside to like this. At first, you smell the basic, synthetic almond oil that is all too frequently passed off as a French macaron note (which is so disappointing) such a beautiful cookie should have an equally beautiful scent duplicate. After a couple of minutes the "macaron" goes away, and we're left with a baby powder-esq cheap-violet smell, it lives and dies that way. There is no white chocolate to my nose, and that is almost as disappointing as the synthetic almond oil being passed off as French macarons. I could never wear this. It's a powder bomb and if there are two things that I despise in scents, it's powdery accord and violet. French macaron's have been used as notes in many fragrances in the past, but have only been done right twice. And it comes from two very unexpected places. Mariah Carey's Vision Of Love (my favorite fragrance of all time which is now discontinued) and Swan Creek's (an Ohio-based soy candle company) Le Petit Macaron (also.... discontinued). I have an obsession with those two lost fragrances that I actually CRAVE on a daily basis. They're entirely different fragrances that in their prime were offered in completely different forms, but will always hold the standard for me when it comes to French Macaron in fragrances.

Is my nose broken? I’m getting an almond/Play-Doh vibe underneath the lipstick-y violet. Not sure about this one...Will edit later after another test. Edit: Yeah, this scent is not my personal favorite. The almond/Play-Doh undercurrent bothers me. It does smell like a macaron though, if that’s what you’re in the market for! “Bready” and lightly sweet; high quality; lasts forever.

This is a better alternative to Lush American Cream (strawberry milkshake) which I don’t like. However, this I do. It’s not my favorite, but it has a nostalgic quality, takes me back to my childhood when I played with any sort of 1980s plastic doll or figure. Even though the descriptors and notes are not shared, they smell almost identical to me.
