Venus in Furs

Thanks to the powers that be for adding this. Got it as a sample; initially, I didn't like it very much, as rosewood was the first thing that wafted from that little tester. Rosewood isn't my favorite scent note. Then I remembered that this needs to "settle", as advised by Alkemia. After about 10 days, I retried. Much better. The rosewood was still there, but blended well with the blonde amber, warm cashmere, and a wisp of lavender. It's a very feminine skin scent: I caught myself smelling my wrist again & again. Although there is supposed to be something called "citron martini", perhaps someone drinking a lemon martini blew into the batch, as I don't detect it, but I'm giving Alkemia the benefit of the doubt. A bit of a bitter scent of carnation prevents this from being too "rounded" and one-dimensional: it was a good choice. What lingered for me, though, as I wore Venus in Furs, was the lovely mysterious incense base note. As with many of this company's concoctions, the scent, as it's oil-based, doesn't have much, if any sillage, but I knew that so wasn't disappointed. It's something that might be enjoyed poured into one's bath, as well as for an intimate encounter, when one wants to be very sure that you don't smell like anyone else at all.
