Vert Sur Le Vert

Girlies always wanna smell like a wood nymph, but real ones wanna smell like a tiny, mischievous imp who uses his pointy hat to bore through your hard-earned, unripe tomatoes, getting covered in green pulp and seeds, then dancing on your freshly cut flowers and crushing all the sap and nectar out before turning back into a hare and running away before you even know he’s there.

Green scents are my absolute favorite. I find this isn't strong enough to wear on its own (though if I could bathe in it I would--it smells exactly like smushing a stolen tomato leaf in your hardware store's garden center, aka a cherished childhood habit) but I love layering it under other scents, particularly white florals.

This smells like crushing leaves in your hand, which isn’t necessarily what everyone would want but I love it. I feel like it has the potential to add a lovely leafiness to other perfumes as well, but I’ll have to get a bigger bottle to properly try that out!

This has kind of been my signature by accident. I bought Vert Sur Le Vert due to the grassy and leafy notes listed on the website, and I was again hoping for a Gap Grass dupe (at least the second iteration, preferably the first). What I got was not a Grass dupe, but the sensibilities are definitely similar, and I’m here for it. Grassy fragrances can end up smelling like cat pee if they’re too dry or too sweet (which is weird, I think), and I just don’t like the dry grass scents anyway. However, Vert Sur Le Vert isn’t typical “grass”. It’s a dewy green vibe, a fresh and sweet grass with a cinnamon-tinged spice. It smells a little more vague and a little less sharp grassy than I had hoped for, but it’s not a generic fresh smell either. It’s a little unique without being weird, clean without being soapy, and green without being too sharp or too masculine. VSLV has really grown on me as something to wear every day that just smells...nice. I know that’s not necessarily what some people want, but I love being told that I leave a pretty scent behind when I occupy a space. Plus, the softness and uniqueness of this scent translates well to every season. I prefer something warmer in the fall and winter, but this still wears well in the cold AND the heat. I will definitely be repurchasing this.

I love green scents and was so intrigued by the idea of a tomato-leaf only perfume that I ordered this one blind some time ago. And it does wat it promises: it's indeed super green, like walking into a greenhouse where tomatoes are growing but without the prickliness of the real thing - I'd say the scent is about halfway between tomato leaf and freshly cut grass. I like it a lot and I take my little bottle out to sniff very often, especially in that stuffy part of winter when real fresh greenery seems furthest out of reach, but I rarely ever wear it as a perfume. For one thing, it unsurprisingly lacks the complexity to stay interesting all day, and for another it has that rather flat, vaguely stale mineral drydown that's so typical for perfume oils. So for me this one is aromatherapy only (as is probably the case for perfume oils in general for me), but it's truly delightful for that purpose, and I agree with the only other reviewer so far that it would be great for layering as well.

What it does it does very well. By that, I mean it is very green. I would layer it with another perfume—maybe a floral— to give it that “stems and all” feeling. For someone who likes green and green alone, this would be ideal.
