Upon initial application, this usually smells like mesquite seasoning, in a not-too-pleasant way. Once I get past the first few minutes though, it rounds out nicely and the woods come out to play. As it sinks into my skin and matures past that first application, it evokes a west coast national park that's undergoing a controlled burn. It's definitely not for everybody, I get that. But if you want a realistic, SMOKY scent, without the incessant sugariness that usually accompanies it (marshmallow, vanilla, etc), this is a phenomenal option at a phenomenal price point.

I absolutely adore this scent. A blast of pinewood bonfire, surrounded on all sides by cold night air and conifer forest. It doesn't smell the least bit barbecue to me, but maybe that's just because I'm already the kind of person to have the smell of real campfires sticking to my clothes anyways ;) A drop is all that's needed, and if I want to boost the dark pine night scent, I'll layer it with a decent amount of For Strange Women's Black Forest.

Smells like wildland firefighting. I bought this to bring me back to my days on the hill, and it works, a little too well. If the smoke had been toned down with the amber more amped up, this would be very wearable. As it is, it just smells like forest fire. Interesting but not necessarily wearable for the everyday. I feel sweaty, grubby, and pumped full adrenaline when I have it on.

A night spent in a Viking longhouse. Sap, fire, smoked meats, pillage, but mostly the sticky stuff they cram between the wood to insulate the structure. Norse AF, no apologies.

Far from my favourite scent, but one that I always seem to keep coming back to for whatever reason. In terms of notes, it smells like smoke, initially it smelled like liquid smoke on some cooking meat, but for whatever reason the meatyness has since faded from my initial test a month or so ago, morphing in to more of a campfire scent. I think I'd like it more on someone else or perhaps as a room scent in a diffuser. On a person up close (especially if you get a good wiff) it's a little much. Definitely a wear at home scent or a wear with friends who already know you're a psychopath scent, please do not torture your workmates with this.

Very huge dose of cade oil and oakmoss, nicely done. I agree with other reviewers that Ydalir is a smoky bonfire of a scent, the smoke/oakmoss combination is most prominent to my nose, with a bit of pine resin in the back. Very potent and vivid, those who love smoke fragrances would likely enjoy this. There is a bit of essential oil-like brightness in the top (maybe a siberian black pine EO?), a bright, almost citrusy character, but it smolders out into the smokeshow.

Super smoked conifers, like a barbecued fir. Lovely, but will also make your mouth water. Upd, i tried to wear it work, and a guy across the room started wondering what smells like smoked sausages. Not the best compliment to get. It's a strong and well-blended thing, but unfortunately I have a few of these so maybe I'll stick to the Falling Stars On Winter Solstice instead, it smells more of pure smoke and less of barbecue.

i really wanted to like this. and i don't even necessarily think it s a bad scent. but on my skin, all i can smell is this tarry pinesmoke, and it's very heavy, and nothing at all like the scents i reach for. however, a friend of mine really liked it on their skin, so there's definitely people who will smell good wearing this. atmospherically, it is very nice, maybe would be nice as a diffuser scent?

Not gonna lie, this is liquid smoke. If I close my eyes and journey to the land of make-belief, I can picture a druid sitting at a bonfire; flames licking hungrily at an inky-blue, star-studded sky. Now, here we are in the real world. I'm standing in my kitchen, and I have a zip-lock bag in my hand. I'm preparing another marinade for grilling meats.

Someone not from a pinewood centric climate would probably find this exotic. To me it smells like I rubbed sauna drops on myself.

If you wanna smell like smoked meat wear this. This reminds me of barbecue more than anything else.

The average of this scent smells like a bonfire, on a cold night, in a conifer forest. It is so evocative. It seems to be a shapeshifter though. On my skin, it's nice, very smoky and piney. Comes over as a unisex atmospheric. On my husband, it is vivid and completely different. The natural oakmoss comes to the fore. He smells like a wildman, wrapped in furs before a primordial campfire. The feeling of warm fur is impressive. I have never smelt anything remotely like it. On him, it is the most masculine scent I have ever encountered. It makes Aramis seem like a pink lacy negligee! It exhibits great longevity and projection on the both of us. Very well blended and good bang for your buck. If you like foresty things, this is for you.

This is probably the most violently potent fragrance I've ever used, maybe with the exception of a super-animalic Sultan Pasha Attar I sampled. One drop of this dabbed anywhere on your body will have you smelling like you've recently self-immolated. You will feel like you are standing -inside- a campfire at all times for the foreseeable future. From any distance it's pure burning wood, if you bury your nose in it you get more of the foresty conifer aspects beneath all the smoke. It's an impressive olfactory accomplishment and definitely smells good, but you would need to be outdoors to want to smell like this yourself. This is going to choke people out in an indoor setting. Should probably come with a warning label.

A very smoky, pine and balsam heavy amber. It gives me immediate memories of my dad coming inside after cutting firewood outside in the winter, with the smell of wood smoke from the chimney on his jacket. I will never wear this as a perfume, it's too powerful, but I'll keep it for the memories.

Smoke! Not incense - nothing churchy about this. Pure honest to goodness campfire smoke. Reminds me of camping trips in the middle of the Pennsylvania Wilds. It may be interesting to layer, but not something I'd wear on it's own.

Extremely strong and pungent tarry wood smoke. I love the smell but actually wearing it is not so comfortable. Maybe in freezing winter days i’ll do this on my left wrist and something more complex and enjoyable on my right
