Flora Mortis

This is everything I want in an autumn-nights to winter-days fragrance. Peppery woods grounding a warm, almondesque vanilla-orchid. Don't jump off that description and land on "gourmand" - I know that word has now lost all meaning after becoming the buzzword of the masses but there's nothing *edible* here, I say gratefully. It's a soft feminine underscore to a polished spiced wood-dominant scent. Specifically which wood is indeterminate, but that doesn't matter in this instance: some fragrances are art for the nose, others are fashion accessories or enjoyable personal indulgences and this is the latter. And there's nowt wrong with that at all. Mid-2020s Fragrantica seems to favour fashion and/or character analogies so I'll describe it thusly: it is a dusty rose silk blouse layered under a masculine blazer and worn with Louboutins to the coolest shithole bar in your city's artsy enclave. Think Kate Moss circa 2008. Or, well, AllSaints in general. I love it but, like "Indie Sleaze" itself, I wish it had more longevity. And hadn't recently been discontinued.

I wore Flora Mortis today during an early morning walk at 5am, and oh my god, I love this so much. It's spring, it rained all night and we walked along dewy green meadows with all the fresh smells and blossoms surrounding us and the multitude of birds waking up. And Flora Mortis just intensifies the moment, more warm than sweet, more herb than flower, hints of dry spicy woods, deep and thoughtful, a little vintage or boho. That's when I realized how much of a cottage scent this is with it's herbal floral goodness and how much it compliments a wild garden, the witches kitchen, the seasons and the peace within, this will be as beautiful in fall as in spring, it's an amazing perfume. Someone said twisted floral, so true. Twisted as nature.

Blind-bought this out of curiousity since it seemed to be so many things to so many people. This settles into a soft woody vanilla base with a residual undertone of church candles / YSL Opium / Cinnabar and similar spiced incense orientals. Top notes remind me of fresh spring florals. I wish the longevity was better.

What an incredible, twisted floral - totally not what I was expecting from a fashion brand. They have totally knocked or out of the park with their scents but they seem to be getting overlooked, I feel as if a Perfume house had released Flora Mortis people would be falling over themselves.

Top notes are sweet. Mid notes were very familiar! Took me an hour to work out that the mids are very very similar to YSL Cinema which I love and have many back ups of. The dry down veers away from Cinema and settles into a lovely vanilla. A very successful blind buy for £15.

This is what I thought Guerlain L'homme Ideal would smell like when I read the notes. Unfortunately, I found LHI way too medicinally cloyingly sweet, so as soon as I found this, I sold the bottle. This stuff works the ticket for me 1000 times better.

On my skin, it develops into nicely sweet amber notes. It is beautiful for autumn, I was very surprised how well the scent fits rainy colder days and transports me mentally somewhere more cozy. Very unexpected.

Smells like a mix of Amber and Coca Cola

This is a difficult review, but I feel I need to emphasise that it's entirely positive: First, I'm testing FLORA MORTIS in warm weather, and I feel it shines better on a cooler morning (just like someone said). It's not sweet. There's this peaceful neutrality about it. It's not really floral the way lilacs and lily of the valley and hyacinths are. And it's not creamy or narcotic the way jasmine, tiare and tuberose can be. And it's not sweet and girly the way roses can be. It's not "green" - the way lilies could be, neither the way they go syrupy. So when I close my eyes and try to see what visual associations it evokes, I'm trying to grasp if it's gardenia .. and it is somehow there... but it feels more waxy ... like a large white flower that doesn't have it's own distinct aroma - like the calla lilies in a bridal bouquet. There's a watery note in there too, not marine/aquatic/ozone -like, but like the water in a flower vase and the humidity in the air throughout a long rainy week. Also, I clearly can detect olibanum essential oil among this "humidity". Usually in perfumes with smokey incense olibanum (as a resin vs oil) adds to their "churchy" feel. But nothing's burning or smoking in this perfume. It's peaceful, unintrusive, therapeutic almost. The more I try to put it in just few words, the more it goes like ... white waxy flowers in water with peaceful olibanum oil ... okay ... now ... this will sound strange, but I have to say it ... - a funeral home. But nothing creepy really. You don't have to be a mortician to wear it, although, it'd be especially suitable. Flora Mortis feels introverted, elegant, gentle ... feeling one with oneself - exactly like a quiet humid gloomy morning at dawn. I like how it goes with a dash of YSL Opium. I wish there were even more olibanum oil, but then it will become more of an experience, than a perfume. Update: - This is amazing over Amouage Sunshine. Together they smell like a freshly opened bag of raw almonds/raw apricot kernels (no hint of cyanide, though), with olibanum oil. - Cartier’s Baiser du Dragon also compliments some aspects of Flora Mortis and the Flora Mortis’ combination with Sunshine. From all the suggested fragrances in the “reminds me of” section, I currently did t recognize one that’s bares resemblance, but if you like Dior Gris and want something lighter, more sheer and less powdery - Flora Mortis is worth trying. Wow I am just revisiting my sample of this and I have to say this is kind of like Spiritueuse Double Vanille when smelled a few inches from skin, not nose to skin (I was wearing SDV earlier but it faded in a couple hours) It's not a dupe for sure- but reminiscent! (And I have been researching dupes!) Differences being its definitely less smooth, less vanilla, a tad more green/herbal, coumarin and I also get a tiny waft of menthol. Similarity in profile being that same woody note blended with the vanilla, and booze in the opening. Aside from SDV comparisons in the opening and mid, the dry down is a mild scented woody floral oriental with a bit of vanilla. Still effortlessly cool nonetheless! Edit: I'm not liking this as much, it's still unique but falling flat- I wouldn't wear this.

Smells like one of those incense-filled witchy stores in Salem, MA where they sell crystals, tarot, cards, handmade candles, and tinctures. Spicy, deep but not heavy, a touch smokey; floral but "mortis" is right, these are dried flowers with essential oils, candles, and incense floating about, nothing fresh about it. Slightly feminine but anyone can wear it. I don't dislike the scent and it's definitely a vibe, but if I wore it I would feel like I'm wearing a costume. I also don't know that it's how I want skin to smell, exactly. Someone below described it as the smell of a house with that slightly dusty, witchy feel—it's more like that than perfume.

Sparkly cola-like amber with a peppery opening. I think this works great during any season. The perfume is clean, and the amber is bright, but it is not soapy. I bought this secondhand on a whim and do not regret the purchase. This is a cute and fun little coca cola amber that always gets me compliments. There is a musk in it that reminds me of deer musk, in that both have that cola smell. A tiny part of it smells like how amber smells when you work with it for jewellery. Its this powdery sparkly stone smell that always reminds me of my grandfather, since he often worked with amber and made us amber necklaces.

this is such a fascinating fragrance. i sprayed this for the first time today (it was on my mums dresser) and i didn’t really expect much. this perfume, however, is SO mysterious. it’s warm but cold, it’s old books but fresh flowers, it’s smoky and wraith like and it’s weirdly appealing. it reminds me of chanel’s “coco”. not mademoiselle - just coco. It’s a beautiful scent. not for me (reminds me too much of my mum because she wears coco) but if she didn’t then this would be a definite winner for me. Safe blind buy. wonderful

At first I wasn't impressed at all, It smelled a bit sour upon first spray. But after letting it sit on the skin for a while I absolutely adored it. It smelled so familiar in a way? Couldn't put my finger on it until I finally realised it smells a lot like coca cola! In a very good way. Flowery, slightly spicy coca cola. It may sound weird but it is truly beautiful! Longevity is so so, there's a bit of sillage to it, but mainly it sits close to the skin.

It smells nice, yet disappears on my skin immediately. Like sand slipping though your fingers, I struggle to pick up notes as I huff my arm. It is slightly sweet, dark, and wearable. Powdery and woodsy. I wish I could smell it better for a proper review. Reminds me of Tokyo Milk Tainted Love, but upon comparison side by side, TL is slightly sweeter, colder, and has a touch of florals. Flora Mortis is more subtle, warmer, and more cohesive.

Just purchased full bottle blindly, and first impression was wow, I smelled it somewhere in niche. Took me all day but then I remembered, it totally reminds me of Nuit et Confidences by Annick Goutal and also slightly Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain but much more subtle. Allsaints are such a great affordable fragrances and do deserve more hype in affordable fragrance category.

A nice surprise because I was afraid it might smell more generic than it does, but reviews are pretty spot on. Linear, dark, slightly makeupy orchid scent that has decent sillage and lasting power. A bit coffee-like as well. I'll keep this one for autumn nights. Curious to try their other fragrances now as this one impressed me.

Cherry vanilla tonic, but smooth. Closest experience I can think of is guerlains l'homme ideal cologne, which is still brighter with better projection. SDV maybe but distant echoes only. The scent itself is pleasant enough, my lowly rating reflects the weak performance for something labelled as an EDP 2.5/5

Cozy, peppery, amber, autumn leaves smell. Perfect for a calm and cool walk to the cafe to get a hot chocolate. Not as in your face as by the fire place which I like cus the casualness is attractive to me. Longevity could be better but that’s my only complaint. Overall very good!

Floral and Herbal with some spiciness, not resinous. Once it dries down, it has some resemblance to Spicebomb Eau Fraiche. If this is what the infamous SDV smells like, I am disappointed. It's okay, better than concrete rain and incense city.

its fine. i'd pin this as an office scent: sits close to the skin, light and inoffensive, a bit powdery.

So this is just jazz club but not so sickly sweet/loud. Which is perfect because I love jazz club!

An orchid with a reanimated jolt of life. The note listing for Flora Mortis is simple, and that is perfect. If you read the list of amberwood, black pepper, coumarin, and orchid, the first quote to come to me was "Yep!" That isn't to say it is uninteresting. The black pepper seems to be the soul. And this dry edgeless pepper soul is attempting to vine into the reanimate body of an orchid via a sweet, jammy fruity amber. That makes sense? It's like a teen fragrance version of a Frankenstein story you may see in an animated movie. Nothing is scary about it, and the tale is the same with perhaps better intentions than the original Dr. Flora Mantis is Plants vs. Zombies with a Lisa Frank skin on it. Maybe I'll try to tell you who would wear this instead of... whatever I just said. This is a young , new grade school teacher's fragrance who resprays it during lunch. Her classroom always smells of Flora Mantis, and the kids, when speaking fondly about her to their parents, always mention she smells so good. @thescenterofpeople

It's quite warm in the opening and feels licorice-y and resinous. This fragrance is a softy, and it's cushy, it's not an amber bomb and I find the sillage to be quite intimate on me. Yes, it has coumarin, but I do wish it was a bit heavier, this gets eaten alive in chilly outside air. I feel as if this would be much prettier on a day in early autumn, in the sun. It wears into a super polite, super inoffensive, slightly plasticky spice after a couple of hours. I don't exactly know what is responsible for that, but it has an artificiality about it. I don't dislike it, but it's an element I can't ignore and it's worth noting. I'm glad people enjoy this, but it isn't really plucking my strings. It's certainly not bad, and I don't think it'll annoy most people in your vicinity, though I'd be lying if I claimed this was very evocative to me. It doesn't really stand out and it's not very memorable. It is however, casually enjoyable.

Overall, this gives a light, peppery, dusty skin scent. It sits very close to the skin. It's more peppery the closer you smell to the skin. There is an iris quality to this, though it's not the primary note. Something of a pencil lead dust on paper sort of vibe. It's light, but that leaden quality is still there. Dusty, peppery, pencil lead with a little warmth and sweetness. I like this, but it's not wowing me. It's a little too skin-scent adjacent for my taste, though kind of like the skin and linen shirt of an architect sitting at a dusty drafting table. I think my imagery is a little more romantic than this actually ends up being in practice. I think even that cohesive image is more a happy accident than intentional story-telling. Not bad, but nothing you need to scramble to get. 5/10.

Odd. I have a test paper sitting in front of me from a few hours ago. Very faint scent remains after 3 hours. This reminds me of a note in Juicy Couture's "Hollywood Royalty". Black pepper is there. A musky sweet scent from faded cigar smoke (without the smoke) and years of fragrances, in a warm, slightly dusty but clean, old motel room. I just can't attach it to anything else to describe it. It isn't bad, but it isn't great to me either. I think I'd have to smell it on the right person where their chemistry would make it come alive. A test paper sadly does it no favors.

Ok, maybe the tester I tried today was faulty or mislabeled or something, but this smelled NOTHING like most of those scents listed in the 'Reminds Me Of' section!! No whiff of anything resembling SDV or NDC; this was very similar to "Hermann des Mes Cotes" on my skin, with a distinct smell of petrichor and soil! I am sooooo glad I didn't blind buy this, and instead held out until I could try it on myself. I am definitely jealous of people getting a lovely vanilla scent, but it's definitely not been my experience today.

This is ok. It’s a fine enough fragrance. Doesn’t seem high quality. Notes are pretty linear. Some amber, some spice, some fruit, some floral, some wood.

Pleasant, but nothing special, very easily forgettable.

I’ll start by saying that, contrary to what many people claim, I’m genuinely and pleasantly surprised by the performance of this fragrance. I don’t know whether it’s a matter of batch variation or simply a fortunate skin chemistry, but on me it lasts a solid 10 hours with at least 3 hours of clearly above average projection. The scent itself is deeply intriguing. It truly does evoke the image of a vase of flowers that have been standing in water for a few days already, right on the brink of wilting. And yet, instead of melancholy, it delivers pleasure. On my skin it unfolds as a creamy floral composition, enriched with a subtle impression of damp wood that adds depth and texture. It feels intimate, slightly unsettling, and undeniably beautiful. I also own Brown Flowers by D.S. & Durga, which feels like the next chapter in the flowers’ existence. Here they appear dried, desiccated, almost preserved in time. It is a different stage of decay, more austere and contemplative, but equally compelling. I would recommend Flora Mortis to anyone who looks for new olfactory experiences rather than a safe everyday scent, especially to those accustomed to more mainstream compositions. This is a fragrance for the curious nose, for those who enjoy being challenged rather than comforted. The now discontinued AllSaints fragrance collection as a whole genuinely surprised me with its originality and compositional boldness. It was a brave and distinctive olfactory statement, one that quietly refused to follow trends and instead chose its own path.

Another winner from Allsaints. This house fascinates me, the reviews for most of their scents are absolutely all over the place. Sometimes I get the feeling that people are not even smelling the same thing. To me, this is very familiar. Very close to the gingery tea goodness of Jacomo Art Collection No. 8, which I have and love. The Jacomo is stronger, I'm curious whether this will improve in strength. I expected some overripe, past-their-prime funeral flowers, but got gingery tea instead with lovely black pepper. This note somehow improves and elevates everything. Anyway, I like this kind of scent, and the presentation is also very cool, I love the prints on the boxes and bottles.

I'm finishing up my last sample of this tonight. It's taken me a few years to get through a few carded samples of this because I don't really like it. It's not a bad scent, just not really something I would buy. I think more sweetness would balance it a bit more, I don't really pick up much sweetness despite it being ranked pretty high in the accords. The woods, black pepper and florals are all really prevalent, but I think it might be the coumarin throwing me off. It definitely smells unique and interesting. Maybe it would grow on me over time, but my samples are gone now, so we'll never know. Performance is terrible. Longevity isn't too bad but nearly no projection at all.

I love this fragrance; however, performance and the projection are disappointing at best. It’s a skin scent that lasts less than 2 hours unless heavily oversprayed. During my last visit to Allsaints store I was told by the sales assistants that their entire range of fragrances is being discontinued as they are looking for a new partner that is going to produce higher quality perfumes, which makes sense based on subpar performance of this specific scent.

So underrated. This does smell floral, but more like an old dried up bouquet of flowers sitting in a cemetery kind of vibe. I get a bit of incense and spiciness which gets balanced with the warm floral base. This is not for everyone, but if you're into witchy mysterious scents this is for you. Unisex but more feminine leaning, i can see a man wearing this too though. Longevity and silage excellent, might be a little too heavy in summer.

No, you can't compare it to SDV, are you serious? Okay, let's listen to Mozart performed by a MIDI player then. When I first tried the sample it reminded me of all 4 Molecules by Geza Shoen mixed together, or just another Eccentric Molecule number N. After a few more sprays I think its nice, sometimes I don't mind something synthetic. There is time for electronic music, there is time for symphonic orchestra.

Best way to describe this one would be a romanticized graveyard: concrete / stone, wilted flowers, and cool foggy air. This fragrance isn't the most popular from the Allsaints line, but I believe it fits the "brand" of the designer very well, what with the skinny black jeans, odd-printed hawaiian shirts and leather / suede jackets, & stores with worn wood floors and grunge music playing in the background.

I wanted to like this one so bad... Unfortunately it didnt match, and i still dont know why, i dont know which note made it so weidly medicinal to me. Looking at the notes and descriptions again makes me want to rebuy it to try again but i know it's foolishness... Maybe we'll meet again when i will have developped the maturity to appreciate it... such affliction..

I'm trying a sample from a Nordstom order, so I didn't know anything about this scent when applying. There is something that is interesting to smell, but I don't want to be wearing it. It's like dusty dried potpourri? But then there is a soil tincture accord? For the unique smell, I'd say it might be interesting to layer with something sweet or floral.

This is one of the lightest and sheerest fragrance I've ever had. A hazy, pale shade of orchid purple. Not sweet, not overtly flowery. Amber wood merely hints at amber to round things up. Pepper only whispers if you listen. Ethereal. Feminine. Vintage floral..Kinda reminds me of my Grandma. Perfume lasts best on clothing. ✨

Nicely-blended. Cute. Dark. Slightly masculine edge to it actually. An almost gourmand. Not as floral as you think, mainly a vanillic amber with slight floral qualities. More matte than gloss. Imagine a teenage version of Tom Ford's Black Orchid, or MFK's Oud Satin Mood without the Oud and Violet vibes.

strong, strong, strong orchid in the opening. smells almost like a flower garden - dewy, green, floral (almost vegetal). that fades quickly and is replaced by smoky tonka and black pepper. i find it a bit strange (and masculine-leaning, especially in the mid to final stages) overall.

Reminds me of sweet desert flowers that have dried up under a hot desert sun. It’s warm and has a musk that’s sweet but in a slightly spicy way. I personally love it, especially in summer. This besides leather skies are my favorite from the range.

Sweet, smokey, dark, a little bit spicy and a touch of woodiness. Nothing too offensive or cloying. Flora Mortis is alright for a blind buy if you enjoy Metal Wave but it doesn’t have that wow factor like Sunset Riot has.

I thought I'd love this (orchid note!) but it lived up to it's name.. soft sweet floral, died quickly.. wasn't very exciting.. rigor mortis RIP. Please Fragrantica change the pic to tthe actual correct bottle!

Smells incredible, feminine perfume top note with a cologne like base. However, the smell disappears within an hour or two for me, completely gone from the skin in three.
