This is giving James Dean, but he’s a sexy librarian. The leather jacket’s gone, replaced with a worn leather stool. He pushes a metal book cart down the stacks, chewing the end of his pencil, the air around him hazy with creamy, powdery vanilla from his soft cashmere jumper. The opening has a gentle metallic note for a moment before softening (done super well here, not doctors office or telephone pole, just sexy stainless steel). Obviously he’s paused mid-aisle, cart abandoned, to sweep a loose strand of hair from your face. As it settles, the scent deepens into a beautiful woody vanilla laced with soft leather and the faint dry whisper of dusty paper. The notes listed here don't really reflect it very accurately to my nose. My description is (as ever) over the top, but it's a really easy to wear composition. You could wear this every day. James Dean in jeans and on a milk run. Don't buy it though, its discontinued and I want the bottles. Notes: *I get the comparison to Eau Duelle, this doesn’t have anything green or damp, it’s brown, dry, and slightly powdery. Instead of any hint of green you get some metal. You don’t need both though. *If you like Whispers in the Library or By the Fireplace, you’ll like this. If you're collecting woody vanilla you might need it. *Not a gourmand, but Industrial Gourmand people will eat it up

My favorite from AllSaints fragrances. It's a honey vanilla woody fragrance, very warm and cozy. The notes they assign to their fragrances are so off, just like Zara. but I mainly get warm vanillic notes. the longevity is average and I found a bottle for a great price on Amazon UK, I will be gifting it to a friend. Just wanted to mention that it reminds me of Commodity Gold! but this one is a much smarter purchase since it's much more affordable and the longevity is a bit better than Gold. and Metal wave is definitely unisex while commodity Gold is unisex leaning feminine. The dry down of Gypsy Water by Byredo is in the same ballpark as Metal Wave, you don't get the lemony and green opening of Gypsy Water here. There are some similarities to Eau duelle EDT or EDP. But they are much spicier than Metal Wave. This line of fragrances is also Cruelty-free, which we need more of in the fragrance industry.

I love this. I know this is not something most people will love but there's something about this that just hooks me. I love wearing this, but I would also love to smell it on my husband. I don't understand the notes, it's more like impressions of those notes than you can actually smell them. Overall it's a non gourmand vanilla, almost green, but metallic, it also smells a little of pencil shavings and 1950s book pages. It makes me think of a very put together Scandinavian, living in a chic apartment, all simple lines and classic shapes and blond wood. It makes me think a little of tobacco also and soft leather, although it is not actually leathery, that is just the texture I think of. This is really long lasting on me and one that I only picked up about a year ago because I saw it in a sale for £10! So glad that I took the chance on it... I also love Flora Mortis from this line.

I got a sample and finished it in a few days, fastest ever. This is kind of addictive to me. "Metal Wave" name wise did not appeal to me at all.. and I can see how someone could think it smells like metal as an interpretation. But if there was a papyrus made out of vanilla pods shells, it would smell like this. It does smell like pages of a well aged book (the good kind) but wearable and unique as a perfume. As stated in previous reviews it does remind me of the vanilla in Eau Duelle, without the spices. I don't get the magnolia, but definitely a light, green coniferous that takes the vanilla away from being gourmand and gives it an uplift, could be a drop of sandalwood/santal too adding to the smoothness. Not too strong in longevity or sillage but can be generous with sprays since its well priced. Waiting for my FB!

Metal Wave is in the same vein as Gypsy Water to my nose...Not at all a dupe but the same vibes because it smells quiet, cozy, comforting and just perfect for a Fall/Winter evening. I really like it but this is definitely not a “look at me” kind of scent. This quickly becomes a skin scent (after 30 minutes). So if you want this to project, this will not work for you. However, personally, I love perfumes that stay close to me. Sometimes, I just want to smell good just for myself and not announce to the world that I have arrived...So this is very much a scent that I will gravitate to when I want to stay home or just hang out somewhere casual. This smells minty, vanillic, pine-y and woodsy all at once. I really really love this one. Full bottle worthy but again, I love scents that are shy...

Crazy how this has no vanilla listed!? Fantastic fragrance for the brand, probably the best out of the range and has a niche like quality to it. The 'Vanilla' is a little reminiscent of Eau Duelle but not completely, maybe the edt than the edp, as the edp is more spicier. This to me smells like a cold vanilla 'tea' in a wooden mug. I do agree with this evoking 'Shoreditch' - creative, artistic, minimalistic, industrial and the type of people who you walk past on Shoreditch High st. When you thought the scent has disappeared, others can smell you. Bottle design with the 'eroded rock' cap complements the concept well. Soft, comforting but still has an edge to it. Good quality navy wool coat, premium brand denim jeans and minimalistic leather shoes/sneakers.

It took me a while but I've finally understood, and I created an account just for this. To me it is suggestive of a perfectly smooth and boozy hot chocolate or vanilla milkshake. Like with a shot of whiskey that doesn't stand out, but blends in to make it extra lush, cosy, and a bit intoxicating. Maybe the wood, leather, metal or 'edge' that others smell is what I perceive as a mild boozy note, and if it smells like books to you i am jealous - yet would not change anything about this. I mean it's not very long lasting or strong, so maybe that, but irresistibly cosy (yet adult), which is all i want from a fragrance.

Love love love! I cannot stop smelling my arm when I wear Metal Wave. My favorite ever combination is juniper plus a slightly sweet/warm note, like vanilla, and Metal Wave is this to a tee. Cool crisp juniper perfectly balanced with a subtly sweet warm vanilla and just a touch of intriguing ambroxan, but not horrible plastic doll ambroxan a la Glossier You. This fragrance is not complex and is very linear, but I don't mind this at all. To my nose, Metal Wave is a less sweet and more simplistic cousin of Arquiste Architects Club. I love both and will hopefully have both in my collection for a long time.

I'm so obsessed with this fragrance! When I first sprayed it I was hit with a foggy nostalgia, it was kind of reminding me of a dentist office but just in terms of the coldness and sterile steel. I agree with the commenter who says it reminds them of broken glass. Once this dries down it gets very vanilla oriented, but remains unisex. I think these notes blend really well and create a unique scent that reminds me of a church but in another dimension. I wish it lasted longer on clothes and skin, I only get around 4 hours of wear but it's great nonetheless.

In short, this smells like you spilled a bottle of vanilla extract on an old book. To me the opening is super alcoholic (maybe because the atomizer spits out a puddle of juice instead of gently misting it). If I smell it really close I sort of get the metallic thing people are talking about, but to me it's more of an alcohol soaked vanilla cake or something. Vanilla cake + old paper + pencing shavings. Very ~dark academia~. I didn't love it at first but it's really growing on me. For $30 at Macy's Backstage, I can't complain.

A cool and dry vanilla although it’s not included in the notes. It’s unassuming and quietly confident. Abstract, airy as a veil but present. I always think about the texture of crisp parchment paper, dry bark and wood chips (without smoke), and the smell of a dry gin with the softest floral infusion. I find it relaxing and not trying too hard. I love it and will always have a back up bottle. The juice in my back up bottle has turned darker and it smells even better.

This has a small Pegasus by Parfums de Marly vibe to me - it's by no means the same, but it has that creamy vanilla and metallic thing going on. It's like a much more stripped down Pegasus, minus the heliotrope and bitter almond. Really very pleasant and inoffensive. It's a fantastic pick up for the price.

This is so beautiful. I agree with the other reviews...so surprising that there's no vanilla on the list, because I absolutely get a vanilla scent right off the bat. This is the perfect mix of wood, vague floral, fresh. I'm very excited about it. Great price point - will definitely buy a full bottle.

Metal Wave sort of reminds me of a tin of breath mints or an old book, and it’s oddly comforting. The lasting power is really impressive, especially in fabric. This is an excellent fragrance for the price.

Have you ever picked up an old book, opened it to the middle pages, and stuck your nose into it? That’s pretty much what this smells like. I’ve read that old books start to smell like Vanilla as the Lignan in the paper breaks down, so that must be what they were going for here (I agree with others, there is definitely Vanilla here, even if it’s not listed). I get zero metal notes whatsoever personally. If you like the smell of books, you will likely enjoy this. I also could not agree more with the people who have likened this to Shoreditch in London. That describes this scent absolutely perfectly, this scent is just what Shoreditch would smell like if you could bottle it’s essence/aesthetic. I find it fascinating that other people have made that same link, I bought it for my sister for exactly that reason (because Shoreditch is one of her favourite places), so it’s super cool (and almost a little weird) that other people have made exactly the same connection. I get great longevity out of it too, even though it lies mostly as a skin scent. Pleasantly surprised. Well done Allsaints.

I’ll update my review when I wear this again, the following is from memory. This is my favorite of three Allsaints perfumes I’ve smelled at Nordstrom’s. It reminds me of Gentle Fluidity Gold in that the woodiness is bright and there is a warmth to it, in this case it might be the cedar and magnolia. It almost has a vanillic quality but it is just a slight bit. Metal wave is an apt name as that is what the texture of this perfume would look like. I do think that it has slight BR540 resemblance also in the texture of the fragrance but it isn’t a huge sillage. Lasting powder on me is pretty decent (6 hours). For some reason this is placed in the men’s section at multiple stores but I find it leans feminine on me, some would probably call this unisex or masculine though.

I am trying this for the third time or so, i oversprayed this time, and my 20yo son came in and said “did someone make brownies?!?” It has a unsweetened cocoa powder scent with some vanilla but not like vanilla extract, more like vanilla pods from a health food store. I don't really get metallic but maybe at first spray for a couple of seconds. I dont get floral either, but im not great at picking out notes. I think this is a nice relaxing go to bed scent, or curl up on the sofa with a book scent, or hang out at a coffee shop scent. Im testing in spring — prob more a fall winter vibe? But i do like it and i dont have anything else like it! I was trying to think of what i could layer this with, and i really have no idea? Any suggestions?

I bought a sample of Metal Wave and a sample of Eau Duelle, hoping they'd be similar and that I could just get Metal Wave since it is cheaper. I put Eau Duelle on one arm and Metal Wave on the other. I ended up liking Eau Duelle more, but Metal Wave is way better for the price in my opinion. Both openings were pretty alike to me, lots of juniper. The real difference for me was the "vanilla" part, its much more distinct in Eau Duelle (and its actually listed in the notes unlike Metal Wave). That being said, I still really like Metal Wave! It's metallic and woodsy and while very unisex its not as feminine as I was expecting based off some of the reviews. I am interested in trying the rest of the line from All Saints.

More concrete than metallic, Metal Wave, especially after maceration, has certain resemblance to Comme Des Garsons Concrete, but whilst Concrete leans towards powdery sweetness, Metal Wave has distinctive green notes that align it more closely with Byredo’s Gypsy Water. Inoffensive and linear it’s a good choice for the days when you’d rather listen than speak, projecting a calm, serious demeanour with a touch of modern sophistication.

Modern aromatic that isn't sharp on my skin. I'd be thrilled if it weren't discontinued. Stays fairly close to the skin but leaves a soft hint of a trail that is a little sweeter than what you get up close. Overspraying required to get 3 or so hours out of it but for what I paid on eBay that's ok with me.

Mysterious pencil shavings with a vanilla hug. I imagine a cool art teacher that has style would wear this. Very unisex - both myself and my boyfriend share a bottle and love it on each other. Performance is weak however. If this had more sillage and staying power it would be signature scent worthy.

I have been layering this like crazy with all kinds of things. I just layered it with kiehls musk and it is divine (to my nose!) I am very anosmic to many notes i have found since embarking on my perfume journey, but this i can smell very well. I have no idea why but it is the truth!

I din't really like it upon first try. On the second wear, everything clicked and I was transported to the inside of a Baskin Robbins in 1996.

I can see the connection to Eau Duelle (my favorite perfume in the world, so far) and thought I'd try this to use as a cheaper alternative to spritz to my hearts delight on a daily basis. Got some samples and...I see the connection but it is missing what makes Eau Duelle so magical and enchanted, that pine foresty freshness mixed with the sweet vanilla that's somehow translucent yet also deep, sweet yet refreshing. There's a sweet vanilla dust in here for sure, it's just not as pleasant. I get a slight woodsiness but it's not a deep or living wood; it's dried and treated. The main issue for me is that I absolutely do get something metallic here. It's not cold, but it's metallic, iron-y, almost like blood, or at least it stays slightly alcoholic—like rubbing alcohol, not "boozy" whiskey—and sharp and there's something in here that feels industrial. It reminds me of a doctor's office, or a sterile space with lots of metallic implements, cleaned with rubbing alcohol...and maybe someone who works there is wearing some airy vanillic perfume. I'm going to pass on it for now, though I'll keep testing it out and see if I feel differently. My fear is that if I smelled this often enough it would demystify my beloved Eau Duelle with its pale, sterile, unenchanted imitation that takes me out of that lovely forest and puts me...somewhere else.

Overall: disappointing. I do not find juniper nor magnolia in it. Nothing floral, nothing aromatic, nothing metallic. All I can smell is dry dust with a hint of sweetness, tobacco and sandalwood (even if these are not listed). It's linear, fades quickly and is really boring. For any genders. But maybe it can work on sad and foggy autumn days. Somehow it reminds me of concrete. This perfume is an immensely disillusioned middle-aged and underpaid single man that comes home from work very late in the evening. He sits on his grey and dirty couch exhaustedly, lights a cigarette but before even he could drink his cheap beer falls asleep soon in front of the TV. And that's his life.

Honestly this smells like a leather jacket made liquid, that then forms to something sweet but green. I have never had the pleasure of smelling magnolia so often times when I smell it in perfume my olfactive memory will present it as vanilla or cake batter. The transformation of the fragrance it’s self kinda reminds of how rock music culture has changed : from wave of heavy metal in the 80s it only got softer as time transgress. This isn’t an in your face fragrance, I could see a lot of hipsters / brooding people wearing this. It’s not long lasting so if you’re not the “ I don’t care what other people think about me” person you made want to carry the travel size.

A dusty vanilla followed by the penetrating smell of ambroxan. Definitely lacking any sort of invention on the papyrus note. If you are looking for a papyrus fragrance I would try Papyrus Moleculaire by Maison Crivelli or better yet, Jungle Santal from Target. HOWEVER. The latter two examples are reliant on Iso E Super much in the same way Metal Wave is reliant on Ambroxan, and personal preference for one aroma chemical may be coming into play here. That being said, the use of ambroxan in Metal Wave is vulgar and heavy handed. Maybe this is pleasant if you've never actually smelled papyrus before, or if you like this one specific aroma chemical because that is what it boils down to.

Disappointing af. I was expecting metal, something cold and shrill, maybe ozonic and aquatic. It's literally Britney Spears Fantasy without all the florals. Warm vanilla sugar from bath and body works. Tom Ford Metallique. Speaking of which, TF Metallique was also shockingly disappointing, it's just vanilla too. Wtf is up with people mistaking vanilla sugar cookies with cold steel?? Glad I just got the carded sample. Still on the hunt for a true metallic scent.

This is a quiet woodsy vanillin dust perfume (think tic tac vanillin dusting sugar). I don’t distinguish a single one of the suggested notes, except for maaaaybe juniper (woodsy, powdery, a bit musky as in Juniper Sling by Penhaligon’s) and no actual metallic or ozonic notes present themselves to my perception! With that said ... if there’s anything “metallic” that this scent reminds me of, it is “silver sprinkle balls”. Google it if you are unsure what I’m talking about and it will all fall into place. Actually google it anyways, so that you imagine more vividly how a large full bag of those would smell if you opened it and inhale. If you recall their smell after smelling just few of them on cake/cupcake icing, substract the icing smell from the whole idea - there’s no icing or creamy vibes here, noting dense, voluptuous, greasy, eggy etc...nothing like that. Nothing bakey cakey or natural vanilla pods or extract or “golden”. I know I repeat myself, but again, it’s just dry, soft and fluffy like vanillin sugar dust with woodsy base (juniper). Lovely. Unpretentious. Unisex. If you like vanilla, but not vanillin (they are different and they are experienced differently), don’t go and blind buy it, just because “vanilla” sounds safe. It has a bit of a synthetic quality to it, which some people may find weird. Tardes by Carner Barcelona is in this almond dragee category. But the perfume that really falls in the same vein for me is V Canto Mirabile, where you have the tic tax mint, but is more spicy (a la Musc Ravageur) and ofc - more dense and complex.

I was at all saints today looking through their gorgeous clothes....and ended up picking up a great leather jacket. at the registers my eagle eye spotted their perfumes and the kind cashier gave me three samples. this is the one I was least interested in because I am NOT a fan of metallic notes in perfume if you have an aversion to metallic smells, please do not be scared of this one. in fact, ignore the name and the 3 notes listed as well to. my nose, its quite aromatic, balmy and softly oriental spice. when I put this on, I thought this smelled heavily of Elemi. soft, cozy, warm suede, Elemi, sandalwood, vanilla, bitter green aromatic its actually a very calming meditative scent for me, and I love it so much similarities to eau duelle are also very spot on

This must have some of the new molecules like ambroxan or iso super, it reminds me of Monocline 01, a Maison Alhambra dupe of Molecule 1, which is very woody and the iso super is sooo strong there, Metal Wave reminds me of this combination, it's addictive, cosy, unisex, comforting, instant love. I also have Flora Mortis, which is hard to describe for me but pretty interesting and unique.

This is really nice. I can't say I've ever smelled anything quite like it before which is basically my most valued quality in a fragrance nowadays. Those three notes are very definitely not all that's going on here - I can say for sure I pick up on florals and papyrus and juniper though. I don't actually really get anything resembling a metal accord, just a unique, pleasant scent. Projects nicely for an hour or two before settling close to the skin but lasts like that for another solid 6-8 hours.

This had so much potential but the lasting power is ridiculous. Other than that, this is probably one of my favourite scents of all time. The name is so accurate, it honestly smells like a sweet metal in such a beautiful way. If you know London, then this is what Shoreditch would smell like. It smells industrial, with that metallic tang but in a very sweet and soft way which I suppose is from the magnolia. I have to use this as a mixer because it way too subtle but my goodness is it delicious.

I find this fragrance feminine-leaning and interesting. If I had to describe based on other familiar scents, it's a combo of Sylvaine Delacourt's Vahina+Florentina perfumes, added to a lighter, less pungent, version of Perris Monte Carlo's Vanille de Tahiti. It's more of a musk than vanilla scent IMO, but definitely well worth trying if you like musks or vanillas! A guy could pull this scent off as well IMO. Longevity is 4-6 hours. Throw is average- not too much and not too little.

Metal wave is good - it opens as a sweet metallic scent but drys pretty quickly to a woody vanilla which then has a vague sweet metallic hue to it. (I’m in the camp of people surprised that vanilla is not in the notes!) I also pick up the metallic smell in their flora Mortis and sunset riot fragrance - it’s just amped up in this one and sweetend. It’s quite a subtle scent - projects for the first 30 mins but settles to a nice skin scent and lasts about 4 hours on me. Unisex.

This is so good! I know that I have crazy assotiations but during the first half an hour, Metal Wave reminds me of entering in a stationery store and then walking around between the shelves of pencils and scented erasers. The dry down is exactly the same as an apple fragrance from late '90s, I just can't remember its name. It was in a clear-green bottle with gold lid and smelled of sweet- synthetic apples.

This wears like a masculine vanilla on me. It smells so much of vanilla that I don't understand how its not a note. I've gotten lots of compliments. I mix this with CLEAN Skin and love how I smell at the end of the day. It's not a very expensive perfume. The more I wear it, the more I like it.

I think I just have very low tolerance to vanilla but even a small spray of this felt like too much for me. Smelling my own arm after 30m of wearing this made me feel quite nauseous/migrainey. I may try it again at a different time of the month though, apparently that makes a difference.

Metal wave opens with some metallic and floral notes. When it dries down a little bit, all I can smell is a sweet white floral scent. Definitely not some vanilla sweetness but white floral sweetness. The metal part doesn’t last very long to me.

Sterile vanilla and dry artificial woods. Not metallic per se, but it does remind me of a modern art gallery with plenty of glass and metal. I would prefer a more on-the-nose metallic scent, but this is definitely a vibe I can appreciate.

Starts off very scratchy but then quickly settles into a long lasting but low projecting skin scent. Slightly cold and detached vanilla a la Tom Ford's Metalique and dare I say Moschino Uomo.

at first whiff, there is a faint yet evident chocolate-y scent that lingers on the skin. kind of sweet? or vanilla. definitely not as woody as listed, at least with my expectations.

Smells like vanilla, stainless steel, glass, and sandalwood. A cold vanilla; not warm and cosy, but cool and unisex. Close to Tom Ford Metallique and Armani Prive Bleu Turquoise
