Musk al Madinah

i bought this today. the scent itself is something i love -- on me it's very subtle, with rose coming first, right after i apply the fragrance, followed shortly by musk and (for me) an unidentifiable floral scent -- no sandalwood at all or only very slight, almost masked in the sweetness of the fragrance; on me it does not feel woody at all -- more like a "clean", light, sweet floral musk. i could easily wear it all the time -- it does not feel intrusive at all, and generates a very relaxed mood. the only problem i have with it is what seems to be poor longevity, which is strange for al rehab. subjectively, it sits very close to the skin -- most of the time, i don't feel i'm wearing it; after an hour or two, it is just a very difficult to detect skin scent. still, i don't know whether this is an objective performance issue or it is causing olfactory fatigue. i have the same issue with the encre noire, which i love -- but can't smell at all on me after an hour (although others do smell it -- i know this because of compliments -- but i can't smell it for the love of my life))) -- so maybe it's similar with Musk al Madinah -- i have to check this with others. also, unlike other al rehab oils, it becomes sticky on the skin after it is applied; maybe my sample has issues, and this would also explain the (apparent) problem with longevity -- so i'll have to check this ))

I like this musk as I find it’s really well balanced. I actually like this musk more than their Whitemusk roll on. I find this musk to be exactly what I like it’s sweet but not too sweet. I also do not smell any oudh and my nose is very sensitive to it. For me I get the musk of course and I do get a nice sandalwood very woody like it was fresh shaved or cut. That inner deep smell in sandalwood is what I get. I do get floral as well but I’m not sure what, possibly a rose of some sort? I also like how this is very sticky so it really stays on my skin. This lasts forever and drys down on me to a sweet powdery woody musk. It’s very natural smelling and I like it. I would say this is my favorite musk from Al Rehab so far. But musks are subjective what I like one may not, but if you enjoy musks do give this a sniff. It really is lovely in my book. Plus it’s a good one for layering too.

I would never have tried this except for a recommendation from a fellow Fragrantican. It was suggested as a clean, not too sweet Al-rehab. I really, really like it! It's very fresh and lightly woody, but retains enough sweetness to keep it from sharp soapiness. It doesn't get powdery on me, but does become softer as it develops. I haven't smelled a musk like this before, that is so nicely balanced between sweet and clean. Usually it's too much of one or the other, which is why I rarely try them anymore. So nice to find one that really works on me! Edit: tried it again the following summer, and discovered that it has iso E, and that I’m sensitive to it. I could have cried when I had to scrub it off and pitch it in the trash, far away from the house.

I can only speak highly of this one - it really is the king of perfumes for me. If you overdose it it can end up as a very nasty odour, but given you learn to use it carefuly it becomes pretty addictive. I'm having issues restricting myself to use it on festive events, since that's where it belongs, the Musk al Madinah is not an everyday wear. The first few minutes it's pretty heavy - apply it well ahead of time, because between 2-12 hours after rolling it on, it's just a masterpiece. But if you apply too much the balsamic notes (that some identify as detergent) become too dominant and will spoil the whole scent, it requires a bit of practicing.

I have become a big fan of this perfume oil as soon as I tried some on my skin for the first time. This is a very gentle and elegant fragrance mingled with my skin scent. Beautiful blend of sandalwood, roses and white musk. This fragrance is a homage to the Prophet(PBUH) who used to adore fragrances, especially musk. Roses are the flowers offered to Islamic temples. This subtle and versatile fragrance is highly welcomed in my community in Tokyo, Japan where people tend to avoid wearing vivid fragrances. I am often asked what kind of fragrance I'm wearing with this on me. I will definitely repurchase this one.

Gentle, everyday perfume. Nothing jars, right from the outset, and it just gets more powdery, musky as time goes on. I have to re-apply this halfway throught the day, but that's ok. Roll-on is a little reluctant to let much oil out, so that might be why. I really like it as an easy not in-your-face perfume that can be worn anywhere. But last night, husband came in close and said'Mmmm you smell lovely' Winner. Amazing really, as sometimes I'll wear a knock-em dead sexy perfume, and he doesn't even notice it.

This should be an easy enough to love Al Rehab to warrant a blind buy if you like musk scents. I believe there may be a tiny amount of oud in here as the reviewer below noted. I also get a little bit of a rose/citrus/vanilla note maybe a bit like in Body Shop Morrocan Rose - but don't let this put you off, Musk al Madinah is first and foremost a pleasant bright musk fragrance, totally unisex.

Very nostalgic for me, and one of my favourites. It's a clean, warm, amber smell that's not suffocating. I catch a hint of rose and wood, but the musk is pretty strong when you put it to your nose. It's perfect for any occasion, but I recommend wearing this when you know you will hug someone or sit closely with them. it's very intimate and warm. 9/10

I've had this roll-on oil for around 2 years now and have always loved it. There has always been a quite prominent floral scent that has proved unidentifiable to me. Until last night; it's definitely lily-of-the-valley! Beautiful perfume and well-blended.

On me this is sandalwood with a dash of musk and a little sniff of rose. No oud whatsoever. I find this fragrance very pleasant, relaxing, mellow and far from a protection monster. Very inoffensive and suitable for daytime wear.

I own both Musk al madinah and Al haramain musk and I found that they are 100% the same! Woody musky rose with some Arabian vibe. They both happen to smell similar to Montale Musk Rose too.

Unlike others, I don't sense oudh in 'Musk al Madinah', but I do agree that saffron and rose, bolstered with pelargonium (geranium), forms the core of this perfume. The rose accord is supported by sweeter florals beneath- is it hyacinth, lily, and orange-blossom? As well, just a wee touch of both fruity and "green" aldehydes for a soft, shampoo-like soapiness underlining the "clean" nature of this floral-musk. The base to my nose is a mixture of clean, white musk with cashmeran and iso e super... and I can't decide if those wood-like aromas are diffused and naturalized subtly with a bit of juniper or cypress. I honestly don't smell true sandalwood here. Performance for this one is interesting, and exposes a bit of its structure: it starts off with an enormous, swollen sillage that makes you wonder at first if you've applied too much... but, as such a large section of this perfume is composed of "upper heart notes" that, not surprisingly, mostly burn off within the first 2 hours or so, you are left thereafter with a tenacious skin-scent that grips onto only traces of that floral bouquet that once blossomed above. This lasts for quite some time (beyond 24 hours) as an "aura" that, to me, is pleasantly detergent-like... calling to mind some of the interesting (yet highly-synthetic) compositions that you might find sniffing the caps in the cleaning aisle. I very-much "like" fragrances like this, and agree that it would be most enjoyable on breezy, spring days- or any time that you wish to exude tasteful cleanliness. EDIT: I agree with a comparison to 'China Musk'... Musk al Madinah veers more toward the floral side than the sharp green of China Musk, but there are similarities. ********************************************************************* I was hoping that Fragrantica had a page for the counterpart of this one- 'Musk [al] Makkah', but, as there isn't, I'll place it here for now: Musk Makkah arrives housed in black packaging with gold lettering, and this is perhaps appropriate, as the fragrance has a distinct "dark" edge that becomes more-apparent as it softens. It begins with a blast of bergamot, cardamom, rose, and saffron, underscored by cypriol, patchouli, and an oudh with an interesting medicinal-herbal edge. I also detect a sour-fruity aldehyde that is also present in Balenciaga 'Rumba' and Al Rehab 'Randa'. After an hour or so, when the sharper top-notes have diminished, the base begins to reveal its sweet, musk-civet blend with a slightly-fecal edge, and a touch of vanilla, playing with the leathery and solemn wood-tones of the oudh-patch accord. To describe the fragrance as a bit like a marriage between 'Shalimar' and Tom Ford 'Noir' wouldn't be too far off.

This one is a fast roller-coaster for the first hour or so. It start's off all sorts of clean, dry, powdery laundry musk with plenty of green rose and very woody. There's some oud and saffron but it's not harsh or overbearing at all. The sillage gets better within a few minutes becoming spicier, a little sweeter, balsamic and way less laundry. It suddenly becomes very bright, sweet and fruity floral before finally finding its equilibrium. Musk al Madinah dries down to a dry woody powdery musk when sniffed close up and a sweet, balsamic rose at arms length. It stays that way for a good long time. The sandalwood is vague at best. My over-all impression of Musk al Madinah is great! It takes a complete U turn in the middle and develops a split personality but I can't find one off-putting note in this. For me It's a gentle western style introduction to eastern fragrance. This is for the 6ml oil

Interesting fragrance. And stronger on me than the reviews would have led me to believe. But the notes listed are wrong! Yes, there's musk, and there's sandalwood. But There's also rose, oud, and some sort if fruit. Possibly a touch of citrus. One of the surprising things about notes is that not everything is always listed. The rest is for you to discover. And Al-Rehabs are good at that! This is quite a nice unisex scent. If you want a more musky scent, you're going to be better off with Al-Rehab White Musk. But this is a nice, everyday sort if musk-based scent. A touch on the sweet side, but the rose gives an edge. This is a solid like for me. I might enjoy layering with other (western) musks and roses.

I just got this yesterday so bear with me. This is one of the best from the Al-Rehab house. I got the oil version and the projection/sillage/longevity is bananas! But that's typical with their oils. It's very strong and long lasting! I was actually afraid that I might've put too much on because it was almost too potent. Anyway down to the smell; to me it's Montale Aoud Musk's musk combined with Montale Dark Aoud. The sandalwood and musk are the main players but I'm pretty sure there's some oud and rose in this. It's lighter and not as heavy feeling as the two mentioned above, but the projection is a monster. I'm so happy that I got this. Amazing value for what you get.

Tried this for the first time yesterday, and it's not what I was expecting. The musk was there, but not particularly prominent, and like ptilda I certainly got some sandalwood, with noticeable extra notes of oud and rose. The oud was particularly long lasting and still quite strong on a sweater the next morning. I'm not unhappy at all about this, in fact I can vote a heartfelt 'like' on this one, both to use on it's own and also to layer. I was very happy when my partner walked up to give me a hug and commented on how nice I smelled, as he is usually quite particular about scents. All good!

I feel like there’s more going on here than the listed notes suggest. I’m getting lots of musky rose, sweet geranium, a little orange blossom. After a few minutes the sandalwood peaks through along with something like oud, but it’s very faint. It’s nice actually, I prefer it to Al rehabs white musk (too woody and not enough florals for me), and my husband loved this on me (unusual as he rarely comments on my perfume). Good performance although I don’t find the projection great.

This has a slight sweetness to it, which I cannot attribute to the notes listed here. It's easy to like and a pleasant smell. Soft musk with soft sandalwood, more suitable for spring and fall than winter or summer. It has a slight balmy feel to it. I haven't given it a full wearing yet. The only thing that bothers me with Al-Rehab is the rollerballs. The one on my bottle of Silver seemed to work perfectly, but the ones on my last three bottles of Al-Rehab are really awful.

If you are not a musk lover, Musk al Madinah will probably not be "perfumey" enough for you. The musk aspect errs on the sweeter side. I believe I detect a small amount of oud in addition to the sandalwood. Fairly clean, but not a "laundry musk". Has a distinct Eastern flavor. I can still smell this on my skin 24 hours and a shower later.

Received my 6ml attar sample today. Wonderful so far. Bright and clean scent. I swear there's some rose in this, not a fresh clean sweet rose but a "dark" or "dirty" rose. Tried a dab on my wrist and really liked it. Will be wearing this to work tomorrow.

I just received this blindbuy and although I was very excited about this, I was a bit underwhelmed with it after actually trying it. It smelled a bit gourmand on me and much lighter than I was expecting. Would not repurchase.

Musk al Madinah by Al-Rehab its a very delicate and pretty scent. I like it because it blends really smooth. I have tested it at Devon the price for it is- $5 for roll on. This is my fav from all attars from Medina theme.

A pleasant blend, opens with rosy amber notes, plus some sandal and musky notes. I also detect a slight leather and tobacco vibe. There's more going on than just sandal and musk.

I have applied Roll on 6ml, and after some minutes it smell became similar to Rasasi Secret (Female),

This ethereal green heavenly scent is addictive. LOVE.

This does share some familiarities with Al Haramain's Madinah and Musk perfume oils. It's clean, faintly sweet, has hints of rose, some indistinct floral, orange citrus and lots of musk. I don't get a lot of sandalwood, it's faint and thus this oil lacks any real depth. Easy, fresh and forgettable. There's nothing to dislike, but it's too linear to love.

I have mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand, it's a very quiet, inoffensive, and not at all loud-as-hell fragrance like what I've had from this brand before. On the other hand... it's kinda boring; it's a very soft and pleasant clean white-musk fragrance that smells of soap and women's makeup, with the tiniest bits of spice. For some insane reason, I keep smelling the home permanent kits my mother used to use on her hair when I was a kid. Or maybe it's the smell of some of the hair salons she used to go to and have them done at that I'm reminded of. I was expecting a lot more out of this than what I received. :-(

I purchased 5 Al Rehab oils and was really excited for this one but unfortunately it was the biggest letdown. It doesn't smell bad, but the problem is that it doesn't really smell like much of anything. It's clean, a little green, sweet, slightly soapy, maybe a touch of rose and a hint of musk if we are being generous. Don't expect even an echo of sandalwood. It's the type of scent that would be appropriate for a handsoap or dryer sheet. I need to quickly go apply something else before I fall asleep from boredom. This will be the first scent that I throw away.

To my nose this is just okay, there is something a bit off-putting to me. The notes listed don't give me much to go on so I'm going to trust my nose here. I detect a slight rotting foliage note. Like leaves that had fallen from the tree and had been heavily rained on then left sitting for some time. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just not my bag.

I smell a lot of oud in this, in fact I smell no sandalwood at all, & the musk is very minimal. It smells very similar to Jovan Intense Oud to me. It has good sillage & longevity, but if you are looking for sandalwood this might disappoint.

Pleasant oud/rose/lemongrass scent. Usually Al Rehab oils have the potential to knock the socks off the uninitiated! Not so much here. I would highly recommend Musk al Madinah to fans of oud/rose and musks in the 'Egyptian musk' range. It surprises me to see the Balsamic note accord here, since I'm smelling something creamy or balmy instead. NO deep notes of any kind, but a gentle sweetness to back up the musk and light green notes. And though no oud is listed, I feel both oud and a touch of saffron and rose. An excellent beginner's Arabian oil.... UPDATE - Today I smelled this on someone else and was blown away. On her it contained that missing BALSAMIC note I'd been lamenting! Also, it is stronger on her than on me. So this truly is a matter of chemistry. Under the circumstances, my opinion of Musk al Madinah has soared. If it smells balsamic on your chemistry, there will be a line around the block just to sit near you. Well worth a try. ;) Further update - I really smell the resemblance to Jovan Intense Oud now. Nice. The Jovan is less creamy and sweet - consequently it has more of a unisex feel and is a little more challenging for a beginner. Al Rehab did a fine job here - it will grow on you. I am enjoying all phases of Musk Madinah and wishing more people who do not generally wear fragrance chose this or a softer Egyptian style musk. The world would smell better!!!

I was gifted this by a lovely fragrantican, which always makes a fragrance smell sweeter. Al Madinah is not just musk and sandalwood; in fact, I question if there is much if any sandalwood in this fragrance. There is a fair amount of rose, actually; when I applied this with a light hand, the rose was very light and green. With a heavier hand, it became more "rosy" if you will--slightly indolic, slightly jammy. It started out as a very clean and fairly soapy, green, light white musk. I agree with others, this is a clean but not squeaky clean musk, with a hint of something (slightly unwashed - vaguely sweaty - lightly salty) -- I'm at a loss for words, because it sounds like I'm describing something dirty and bold, when it is only soft and intimate, more so as it evolves. It is not the pearlescent sweetness of a typical white musk, but sharper and less self deprecating, less demure. On my skin, I get no sandalwood--nothing that smells like wood or incense. Only white musk and roses. Longevity was 6 hours at least and it's a skin+ scent, so this could work as a nice scent for work--nobody in the next cubicle will need a gas-mask, unlike some Al Rehab's. Of note, the weather is cool and my skin is fairly dry; I have an inkling this scent is a completely different animal in the heat!

I recently got this and upon its initial application I cringed a bit. There was this rose and sharp sweetness that made me think this would be like all the perfectly nice but average perfume oils I had smelled at the salon where I get my brows threaded. Instead this took the most spectacular turn and I'm deeply in love. As this oil dried down, I was transported back to Tempe, AZ to a store called Potions and Lotions. It was the first time I smelled China Musk and the nicest version, too. This would be 1991 when this occurred. Every version of China Musk since has somehow been nowhere near as beautiful in its complexity. I held on to that bottle for years and never found one as nice, until now. I'm not a fan of the opening notes but the rest is extraordinary. The longevity is the best part, especially at this price.

This is it! When I was younger I used to buy a perfume oil from a little gas station/ convenience store in the town I was living in. It was the most beautiful musky lightly floral scent I had ever smelled. I have been on a search for something that was at least similar to that oil. The dry down of this is the same exact smell. It starts with musky roses and something slightly green and continues that way for about an hour or so and the magic happens. It turns into the most beautiful, soft Egyptian type musk. I am so glad I took a chance on this one because I will never be without that wonderful smell again. Perfect!

I LOVE sandalwood but I'm not sure about how I feel about musk.. until today! This.. this is a gem of a scent! It's got a clean vibe to it (I'm guessing the type of musk) that lingers in the background. At the forefront, sandalwood. Glorious, intoxicating, comforting sandalwood! Where have you been my whole life you beautiful oil? I almost feel up until this point of my life, I haven't truly lived! These Al Rehab scents are truly to die for! And for less then 3$ each, I feel ive wasted so much good money on rubbish cuz these oils are the BUSINESS!

Hey guyz, i just got this beauty in the bottle. It's a big big Wow!!! Previously, i had bought Avenue, Of Course and White Musk from Al Rehab which disappointed me a lot due to their poor longevity. But now, Musk Al Madinah has made my mood again. A superb combination of Rose, Musk & Wood with lovely sillage and longevity. A unisex perfume for all occasion. Go for it guyz, i bet you won't regret spending on it.

I didn't think I liked oud, but I like this perfume. I got the 6ml rollerball. The smoky oud scent is prominent but not too overwhelming, it is perfectly balanced with sweet spiciness. In fact instantly after applying it smells like Lovely by Al Rehab, or Bazaar by Christian Lacroix. Then the oud develops. I agree it is a unisex fragrance. It would suit men or women.

This smells a lot like Gain laundry detergent. I like Gain for my clothes so I think this smells fine, I'm just not personally into it as a scent for my skin. I don't think it develops very much on me, but it does last forever, so you are in luck if this is your jam. I put a little in the ends of my hair and it was nice to get whiffs of the scent that way.

This is my first non-Western smelling Al-Rehab scent and it smells like the usual rose-oud combinations of Arabian fragrance, it smells the same as Arba Wardat by Rasasi and Oudi by Al Haramain. This fragrance has NOTHING TO DO WITH MUSK. Maybe the non-Western smelling ones all smell the same to me because my nose isn't used to them???

To me, dusty sweet rose. The kind that needs stirring, not pour-able. Yet, wish this had a bit more heft. I think it’s too sweet to not have better grounding. This is almost like a sugar-filled, rose macaroon. Not the same, but similar, albeit much lighter vibe as Delina. Poops out a bit quickly.

Hi! To me it has very little to do with musk - instead I find it is an exact dupe of Rasasi Shatha Al Oud. To me, the Al Rehab Musk has got an unpleasant, "toothpastey" note (do not know, what creates that)

this one reminds me a lot of al sharquia but without so much sweetness. I wore it to work and it was quite strong and I kept getting wafts all day. its not my favourite but still a good perfume

A clean, easy musk scent. I definitely prefer it to white musk (also by Al-Rehab) as it smells like a cleaner, woodier smell. Definitely a keeper for me. 8/10

This is a good intro scent into the world of Arabian perfumes and attars. It is pleasing and mysterious, simple and spicy. It smells expensive.

very nice unisex woody musk. simple, bright, clean and refreshing. one of my favorite al-rehabs. the longevity is super.
