Superman

Superman opens with heavy cloves, spiced ginger, and linden flower (yes, linden tea from the supermarket). Within minutes of opening, a classic barbershop soapiness shyly appears in the background. However, instead of taking a traditional fougere direction, it leans more towards a floriental green soapiness. As this participant makes a few random appearances, the fragrance slowly smooths down to vanilla beans in a cederwood spice cabinet: nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, amber, myrrh, sandalwood, with hints of green muskiness. One of the most beautiful nighttime, cool-weather fragrances. Any temperature under 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius), and Superman becomes magical. In warmer temperatures, one needs to take caution; this is not a bright or light scent. It can become very heavy and cloying in the heat. The bergamot and citrus notes are veiled by cloves, ginger, and myrrh, creating a complex and mysterious aroma that smells a bit like a lunar eclipse.Absolutely breathtaking when layered with green, soapy aldehydes - Nabeel - Jannet el Firdaus, paired with AL Rehab - Superman,has been one of my favorite blends to date. This fragrance is one of the most highly complimented oils or fragrances I wear; women love it. It exudes a very masculine, spicy,,dark sophesticated mysteriousness to my personality, which is entirely opposite of what one might expect from something named "Superman." It embodies more of a dark night, Batman-style fragrance, as another reviewer put it this is somthing clark kent would wear and I believe it should be a part of everyone's fragrance collection.

100% masculine and I like it a lot. The name Superman fits this fragrance perfectly because it reminds me of a late 70's style aftershave with its heavy clove and other spices common in the era. Don't fall for comments about this being unisex because if you're a lady that prefers to smell feminine -- stay clear away from Superman. This ain't no Superwoman hear me roar kinda cologne. This is a man's fragrance IMO and in the opinion of my wife and several ladies I asked to smell this on me. It's very close to the uber-masculine 80's cologne Paul Sebastian Fine but with more clove. It's also kind of like Old Spice on steroids if some bay rum notes were added. Unfortunately my wife and a female friend both said it reminded them of their dad, so it might be dated to some people. Actually it does remind me too of a cologne my dad wore in the 80's when I was in middle school. Maybe it was Paul Sebastian he wore back then. Suoerman is perfect for the autumn season because it's heavy on clove and very spicy. I can't see this working in warmer weather. But that's just me. The sillage and longevity is excellent. I have the oil and liked it so much I also bought the spray and they are bascially the same scent, with the oil being a little more beast-mode. If you're a guy that enjoys classic masculine fragrances, you gotta give Superman a try.

I have resisted reviewing this fragrance for several years, despite loving it, because I'm afraid that I cannot accurately capture it. I ordered a variety of fragrances from Al Rehab on a whim because of their positive reviews and inexpensive price point. I picked up Superman because of the name, thinking that my husband might enjoy it. One of the other reviewers mentioned that it has a "grandfather" scent to it, which might be right. It smells reminiscent of Dial soap mixed with a spicy, peppery wood. My husband immediately fell in love with it as it smells exactly like what he remembers his grandfather smelling like. That's not to say that Superman is unpleasant, rather, it has a sort of old-fashioned confidence to it. I also think there could be some orange and possibly floral notes in the background. The oil and the spray lasts a full 10-12 hours without budging. It is also a compliment getter for my husband, who counts it as his signature scent. Overall, it's a hidden gem if you like a spicy, soapy scent.

Thunder cracks then booms. You are huddled, shivering in an abandoned weatherboard shack. Your wet leather coat on a pegs behind you, a tin cup and shaving soap gathering dust on a table before for you. You'll wait out the storm here... There's an old, otherworldly feeling to this scent. A soapy vetiver backs it, a little reminiscent of Guerlain Vetiver. For Australians, it smells quite like Palmolive Gold. Overlaying that, intense, woody cloves, emphasis on the woody aspect. Sniffing from the bottle, I got a suggestion of the musk that is ij the modern version of brute but it didn't out itself on the skin. It's not the most complex fragrance but simplicity isn't always a bad thing. I find this an intriguingly original combination. Stellar longevity and whoo daddy levels of sillage. Apply judiciously. I think this is unisex but I could definitely see some people categorizing this as masculine. One of the strongest Al Rehabs I've encountered.

Prefer this over jacomo, which I gave away. I smell ginger, incense, smoke, clove and white musky soap. It reminds me of a snowy Japanese temple or fortress during the sengoku winter period, where ash and ember float in the red morning sky, above a scorched battlefield in the distance. The smell of fire and ruin intertwines with the steam of hot water and soap at a window leading into the Pagoda bathhouse; where the wounded wash the blood and soot away. Sounds overly pretentious but that’s just what I picture when I smell the scent. Very relaxing and smooth, warm from the incense and clove yet cold from the white soap, and fresh from the ginger. Really like it. Wear it before bed sometimes as it smells tranquil to me. TL;DR it’s a clove and white soap scent, smoky yet clean.

CLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, as plenty have said, if you don't like cloves give this a miss. When you first open it you are hit with a huge blast of ginger infused cloves. Rolling it on (and only an idiot would roll it over both arms, neck, and chest;) the ginger and spices are really strong. But mainly it's the cloves. As the hours tick by it does mellow a little and you can pick out the musky sandalwood, but the cloves remain. All in all an excellent full on scent bargain. 12 hours plus longevity and heavy sillage.

I adore this scent, especially for layering (with much caution as it is REALLY strong). I was surprised to see that cardamom wasn't listed on the notes here, as it reads as primarily that (with some clove and the other things listed) for me, with less of the white soap notes other people have mentioned. It's very strong and heavy, but also fresh and a bit sweet. A dab of this (I got the roll-on) can really masculinize other scents that read just a bit too fem for me, which I appreciate.

This house continues to exemplify exactly what it describes. This perfectly incense forward fragrance allows you to continue with confidence throughout the day. The pepper forward allows for a hardened scent that you can smell on yourself that diffuses into a sweet woodyness. This is definitely a mainstay. For those who layer, this is what I would call a spicy canvas. It is hard to find things that does NOT play well with Superman.

yep! i smell cloves and a little more clove then some more clove and finally a tad of clove with ginger. EDIT: hey! i was just teasing about the clove at first but this is a no nonsense fragrance.i mixed some sultan/superman and got something similar to aramis havana.oh hell yes! reminds me of those atomic fireball jawbreakers.i also used a tad of that smelly ass oud and i am in another world right now.thank you al rehab.

2 sprays in winter and this drug store priced Super frag stands tall. I can still smell it under my clothes and it provides a mature old school vibe refreshing and calming without any fruity or floral notes. This is gentle spice and woods. Amazing and reminds me of my dad. Not for playful types, I wear this when I'm chopping wood for my fire or presenting to my management team. Great fragrance.

Definitely a love-hate fragrance. My wife hates it. Makes my mom sneeze. And my employees said I smell like potpourri. But I love this fragrance. Reminds me when I was a kid in the 80s wanting to be like my bad ass uncle. Whatever he wore smelled just like this fragrance. He served as a marine during the Vietnam war and volunteered to be a tunnel rat.. Fucking legend! RIP

I cannot distinguish between the notes, even though they are listed above. This is a great fragrance. Well blended, and a beautiful masculine fragrance. The most accurate way of describing this is a balsamic, herbal, semi spicy Bleu De Chanel EDP, but that's not really accurate. Honestly, unlike anything else. Excellent! Mr. Miami Cuddles on youtube. A "chai spice" fragrance. The sandalwood and musk make it creamy. The pepper, spices, woods, and roots add warmth and depth. Adds spice to florals and darkness to gourmands when combined. It was too "screechy" at first because I was probably using too much. With careful application, it's become one of my favorite Al-Rehabs.

Very 1970s and masculine with hilarious packaging that I appreciate very much. Opens with a torrent of cloves until, after an hour or so, warm notes of cinnamon, wood and ginger start to subtly appear. Great projection and sillage. A winner for cold days. There is oudh here but it is more delicate than the Al Rehab norm.

indoloholic: There are a lot of trashy ones I agree. I gave away about 12 or so and never reviewed them, but Macho Man, Choco Musk, and this one are the three that are worth owning. In that order. Macho Man (I think Macho Man may be Nabeel) and Choco Musk are perfect 10's, although Superman is a very good one.

I got the fragrance oil. Spicy-soapy, ginger dominant fragrance. Hints of clove and sandalwood. I was expecting a Jacomo clone due to the "reminds me of" section, but no...this is all original. Similarities, yes, but not a clone. Very nice, autumn weather fragrance. This is a major love here.

For me if i consider performance, price and the familiarity+cosy feeling that this perfume gives me, it is a 5 out of 5. It has a similarity with jacomo de jacomo, but older formulations of jacomo are more complicated, full and sexy. Either way great cheapie, i recommend.

Got the little oil bottle. What a treat. Cloves are central to this scent, missing from the notes breakdown. Very spicy, oriental fragrance indeed.

Spicy-sweet beast mode NUCLEAR POWERHOUSE. Roll-on version is strooooong and lasts for eons. Spray version is less concentrated and so allows for better separation of some individual notes. And it's still very strong, so use wisely! While "Superman" looks a bit silly and doesn't feature the greatest versatility, it does have its uses. On its own, Superman is like a nuclear chai blend with a touch of coca-cola swimming around in there. Spicy, sweet and enticing, but only in small amounts. In essence, it's the super-concentrated version of Loewe 7's top notes, in linear form. For me, this just begs for some alcohol and maybe some apple to lighten/open it up a bit, as it's quite dense. I really like the effect of either layering it or combining it with Gucci Pour Homme II in a mini-sprayer - about 5:1 in favor of GPHII. The result is a stronger, deeper, "hotter" chai/gingerbread vibe that's absolutely wonderful if you're into that spicy-sweet sort of thing. You can do the same with any gourmand or woody scent to bring a spicy warmth to it. However you use it, it really works great on a cold winter day. Considering how good AND dirt cheap this stuff is, I can't help but respect the hell out of it.

I have had this oil for quite some time but it has been hidden away and forgotten. I purchased it in a lot of several others, which I thought I preferred over this one. Today I stumbled across it and thought...why not? Oh my goodness! It's lovely! The first twenty minutes are a bit sharp and..frankly..reminded me a bit of OFF bug spray but once it settles, it becomes warm, spicy, woody, slightly floral, and a tad salty, incensy....POOF of goodness! I've mentioned this in other AL-Rehab reviews but they just last and last and last. They get even better as time goes on. Usually I find that when I apply perfumes ( non oil) the best part is the first half hour and then they are pretty much done. Al-Rehab oils work like a wonder on my skin...they bloom on my skin and just keep blooming on and on as they day goes by. I LOVE them. And what's more...they are SO affordable. I buy mine from Al-Rashad Bookstore on line....out of Ohio.Best service ever. The name of this one is pretty silly and it's marketed as a men's scent but if you can get past those two things and fork over about three bucks you can smell this lovely too!

I have quite come collection of Al Rehab and also Al Haramain. I do tend to have scents which are oriental, dark, sweet, spicy, and also a bit citrusy. Anyway, I like my scents to be spiced up From the first impression, I feel the ginger and pepper. I ordered this one without paying attention to the notes tbh (I lol'd at the name of it) and when I opened it I instantly felt the pepper and also the ginger. It's interesting, it's spicy, it has a good longevity and also projection. It also has a bit of sweetness to it but it's really not that sweet. I always like pepper in my perfumes but I never had a scent with a prominent pepper note and kudos to that Al Rehab. I have the oil, not the EDP, which I think it's better. All my Middle East scents are oils and that's how it will be from now on as well. So if you want a scent in which you can feel the pepper the ginger and also a scent that has a little bit of sweetness, go for this one. I will always keep this one in my collection, because it's interesting.

This opens with an almost "eucalyptus" sap/resin scent - if you've ever smelt frankincense/myrrh oils, which have a sort of turpentine dimension, then it's in that family. But that goes almost entirely. The opening is almost unrelated to the dry down. Then it goes to a lovely durable warming clove, and that's where it stays, with a massive bar of soap. I have a typical English garden full of carnations - they also smell of cloves in the evening. So you could also say it smells of carnation, if you wanted to make yourself more interesting in Perfumeland. It lasts, is very masculine and costs pennies. If you like cloves, this is for you. Most reviewers say it smells of clove - but we're not allowed to vote for that in the scent pyramid. Fragrantica is such BS sometimes - what a load of toss so many of the scent pyramids on here must be.

Al-rehab fragrances, at least the six or seven I've tried so far, tend to blast from the bottle (or in this case, roll-on stick). Superman maybe more so than others. Clove is definitely the dominant theme here, along with a layering of spices that produce a smokey effect, not unlike that of the original Jacomo de Jacomo, or Open by Roger & Gallet. As it dries down it actually projects even more, as do other Al-rehabs like Al Fares or Khaliji, and in this instance, Superman wafts a trail reminiscent of gold-bar Dial soap. A deep, clean smelling scent no doubt, but you'd better like clove! Then again, at the ridiculously low price it goes for and how little it takes to massively project, you won't be out much if it's not to your liking.

The improbably-named Superman is among my favorite al-Rehab fragrance oils. It is, obviously, marketed for men, but in my opinion it can be as unisex as some of the niche offerings. It is well within the Western-fragrance category, beginning with a very pleasant spiciness that I think is nutmeg, and calming down into a wonderful woody scent, like certain types of burning wood or the walls of an outdoor kitchen where wood is the fuel. I can detect the slightest bit of (synthetic) oud but it is not intrusive, unlike other oud fragrances from al-Rehab. If you are a woman and enjoy slightly masculine fragrances, or want to experiment, this is a good one for starters ... only problem is, it probably is too Western for attar connoisseurs.

The spice rack drops and a cloud of black pepper, cloves, and nutmeg fills the air, with some ginger, cinnamon and cardamom adding to the huge kick. A sharp but glorious start. The beginning leans more masculine and you can sense some pine/ camphor or maybe vetiver in the background. It gradually mellows over the next hour, the pepper is overtaken by the cloves, and it becomes a tad sweeter and more unisex at this stage. The base is even more intriguing with mild notes of myrrh and smoky woods as well as a soapy musk. The performance is amazing at such a price point. I enjoy it on its own as I’m a huge spice fan but I also use it to spice up other perfumes. Layer it with Choco-Musk and thank me later.

@ sam ldh Well said Sir! I have a large collection of fragrances and I agree wholeheartedly, more expensive does not always constitute being better. The majority of times functionality wins over flamboyance, my most complimented fragrances are from the £15-£30 range, a far-cry from the £130 per bottle Creeds and the like. There is a certain vicious snobbery to perfumery in some aspects and these people really need to get over themselves. As for the scent, Superman is one of my favorites from this house, spicy and with an old school confidence. Al-Rehab certainly diversifies their fragrances and it is great to try so many due to the reasonable (and arguably under-priced) cost. Great!

Good and a bit underrated. I agree with the description rudwat wrote below, and others along those lines. It’s nicely spicy and has a clean white soapy note (that isn’t overpoweringly soapy to my nose) I’ve had this about a year now and find it well suited to cooler weather. We just had a chilly rainy weekend here, and after the rain stopped I took a nice hot shower and then pulled out about 5 bottles that felt like good options for the evening. After sniffing them all realized this was the one I was in the mood to wear. And of course, they all cost more and I’m pretty sure they were all rated higher than this.

I absolutely love this. It's dualistic on me. The unisex notes of clove and what smells like light patchouli compliment each other, that's what I smell on my skin. But if I catch a whiff of it throughout the day, it smells like there is a gorgeous clean, and well scented, man around. It's rather alluring! A little more Clark Kent than Superman, but I'm not complaining. Also this was nice as a bedtime scent. I tried this on a man, but it wasn't half as good on him. Dried down to a drab moth ball like scent. This would be downright succulent on a man with the chemistry to suit it.

This smells a lot like red tiger balm to me, cloves and cassia bark except there's a strong bitter soapy quality that makes me think of pine tar shampoo or T-gel. This is the first of its kind I've come across and I'm indifferent towards it, the cloves are a bit excessive but maybe when the weather starts to chill down this might shine brighter. Otherwise, this smells fairly medicinal to me, but there's a sense of nostalgia and comfort that keeps me intrigued just enough to want to continue smelling this; totally a home and comfort scent. While flawed it has its charm.

Superman is a great cheapie! Its an interesting combination of spices/resins (clove, pepper, myrrh), but with a freshness that lightens up those darker notes. Its partly a soapy freshness from the musk, but I also get a hint of herbal/green. Makes me think of slicing into fresh ginger root, or that slightly lemony fresh aspect that light frankincense resin can have. I would say this is quite similar to Jovan Sex Appeal. I have the oil roll-on of Superman. Lasts quite a while and I find the dry down quite soothing

I like clove, and bought this for clove smell. The clove note I like, but the other notes and overall smell give me a headache. I gave up on it quickly. It bothers me that most of my fellow westerners only know the attars of houses like Al Rehab and Al Haramain. The quality of most Al Haramain scents is decent-for-cheap, kind of like Lattafa. Al Rehab, however, is awful, awful stuff. Dollar-store-quality perfumes. Why do you guys sample niche level western scents but bargain-bin level middle eastern scents?

Cloves. Not really much else going on here. Essence of cloves. If you have a situation that calls for CLOVES!!!, then this is just perfect. edit - Yes this is similar to Jacomo de jacomo. This is just so clove. Superman is best worn around the Fortress of Solitude. Cold air would suit it best. No one should buy this expecting a really wearable, everyday, all occasions scent. It is also reminding me of Pinaud Bay Rum. The scent is similar, but that longevity is short, since it is after shave.

Ok, so it's supposed to be for men? Silly name. I bought it on the basis of reviews and see that some women wear it! So I've had a go. Male, female, who cares. Yes, it's cloves galore in the opening. But, it settled for me, into a rather powdery but vintage fragrance. Not dissimilar to a vintage Miss Dior as it fades. And I rather like that. Worth a try if you like spices - especially cloves. Wait for the dry down, as it has some sophistication.

Warning! Those supermen and superwomen who dislike cloves can forget about this baby. Its definitely clove and nutmeg based (ignore the notes you see). I personally like cloves and it reminds me a lot of Lutens Vitriol d’œillet and , easily can be layered with yellow florals, its very dense and sharp oriental-big-time-spicy. Enjoy the kick)

Very strong and unusal fragrance. It is heavy and fresh and the same time. On the beginnig it reminds me a smell of fresh cleaned bathroom, but it is because of strong projection. I recommend it to use it 2hours before going out. Anyway you will be in the center of attention everywhere you go (in a good and a bad meaning).

This reminded me of old spice. As soon as I put it on I felt that familiar confidence. It makes me stand straight, push my chest out, hold my head high, and say " Yes, that smell is me. I am a man.I am clean. Deal with it." I like this scent.

Superman has the same overall feel of jacomo de jacomo vintage. High on clove and nutmeg with less patchouly and a brighter opening. Longevity is great but unfortunately this wont replace my beloved jacomo

One of my favorites from Al-Rehab! I love the spicy cloves, ginger, nutmeg, myrrh. This has incredible longevity and just gets sweeter and woodier with time on my skin.

A powerful masculine fragrance. I can smell clove, cinnamon and spices. It's fresh too and very potent. I'll have to try this out more, but for now, it's a like.

Clove bomb that is extremely spicy. Reminds me of Old Spice but without much depth (low bar). Hints of Burberry London. Dated, 70's vibe, pleasing overall, but a little too spicy. Dries down in to a powdery sandalwood. Not bad for a few bucks. A more mature scent suited for cool weather.

Clove bomb and spice with musky skin scent in the drydown. It's quite linear on my skin, and I just not really into this kind of fragrance. Smells typical of hajj pilgrimage around makkah. Projection is strong. Longevity too the roof

This attar reminded me of a dentist surgery. Nice enough. Don't know that I'd wear it too often. Maybe for cold, chilly winter walks.

I did it! I took the plunge and grabbed me a bottle of Superman!......(nerves-a-jangling). Hmm, ok. Nothing to worry about here. Phew! The opening is straight away creamy sandalwood and sweet myrrh standing next to spiky-spicy Cloves (which surely must be the combo of Pepper and Ginger?) and a fleeting shove of alcohol. For 5-10 minutes I was sent down memory lane to my childhood in the 70's. A time of alpha male, spicy-soapy scents like Tabac, Old Spice, Denim, Brut, Mandate, Aramis, Aramis 900 Herbal, Jovan Musk, Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur, Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme......you get the idea. :o) Gradually the notes soften, settle down and, on my skin at least, there is a partly old skool feel from the warm, spicy, musky sandalwood and tamed 'clove' accord but with some dark woods which I can only think must be the Oud peering through which gives this a bit of an interesting edge. You know what, I kinda like this and I can see this layering with some of my bold, sweet fragrances well too. For a sliver over £4 in the uk and if you appreciate this style of fragrance this is an absolute bargain.

Superman opens with a blast of clove with ginger and spices, the dry down goes somewhere completely different; to creamy white shaving soap. And its amazingly concentrated, like the Imperial Leather my Grandad used to use x10. I really wanted to like this based on the listed notes but they don't list the clove. I recently spilled a bottle of clove oil on a wooden cupboard which is in my bedroom. Its taken off the paint and seeped into the wood. I used to love the scent and taste of cloves but now they make me feel nauseous. So I don't know about this one. I've had a problem in the past with some oil blends. The oils sometimes have different weights, they settle in the bottle in layers, and one oil will coat the application ball. So the first few swipes don't always represent the blend. But I think I'll give up on this one.

Review of the roll-on oil. Initially it has notes reminiscent of Imperial Leather soap for me along with some almost floral woodiness that then develops a fresh but warm, slightly spiced feel. It stays soapy throughout and sometimes smells almost piney. Verges on medicinal at times. Develops some depth and gentle smokiness but is always pretty sweet. Like a toned-down soapy 70s/80s masculine fragrance. It ends up gently masculine with some feminine leanings. Pleasant but nothing special and a little sweet for my tastes. Can easily see this being unisex - it has a feminine and sweet quality to it despite the terrible "Superman" moniker. Less powerful than the other Al Rehabs I have but it still gives around 9 hours of good projection and lasts on skin for 11 or 12 hours. An OK masculine/unisex fragrance but its not for me.
