Essence de Patchouli

This is bold, dark, deep and heavy, but there’s something creamy and warm to it as well. The longevity and projection are great and the longer it’s on my skin, the better it gets. On the right person, this is amazing, but it’s definitely not for everyone. For example, I seem to be able to pull it off quite well and have received many compliments on it, but all with the note that they found it to suit me very well, but would never wear it themselves. It also reminds me of a teacher from when I was about 11 years old. She had a dark gothic look and her perfume filled the room, which I still recall as if it was yesterday. Back then it made me think of a dark church, cold but cozy at the same time, because of burning candles and incense. The idea of this being a hippie perfume suits it quite well in my opinion. It might be unisex, but I (f) am not sure if I would like this on my partner (m), though I suppose that has more to do with personality/type than gender. This is great layered with Ambre Gris, also by Alyssa Ashley!

Una niña me preguntó que por qué olía a incendio forestal, y desde entonces no salgo de casa sin perfumar mi ropa con un poquito este perfume. He leído comentarios que dicen que no se nota el patchouli, en mi caso, nada mas lejos de la realidad. Claramente no es esencia de patchouli pura de la que venden en los mercadillos hippies, pero da esa sensación como a humo que a mí me evoca el patchouli; de una manera más floral, terrosa, y un poco almizclada. El precio es top para la calidad que tiene (aunque hay que esperarse un buen ratillo para que se acabe de evaporar el alcohol). Es de muy larga duración, sobre todo en ropa. Y junto al secado da la sensación de que ese patchouli se intensifica. No tiene tanta fuerza como para abrumar al de al lado, siempre que no se aplique más de lo necesario. Cabe añadir, y perdón por el lenguaje, que el atomizado es un mojón. No atomiza, escupe.

Oh divine perfume! Perfect patchouli for me.. I love it. It's gentle and soft, one of the loveliest patchouli's I have ever smelt. I love patchouli, but not in all perfumes, but this one is gorgeous. Love it. Beautifully sensual, elegant and refined. For a very classy lady. I really think an ambery (even though there's no amber listed) smell is what makes this so good. It softens the patchouli, takes the edge off it, so it's easy and comforting. The ambery aura is brilliant in this. I wonder what makes that? Maybe it's the labdanum? And there's lovely rich rose. Very sensual wood element, and the dry-down is gorgeous - soft and creamy. It's a gorgeous, sensual, strong and rich, long lasting (18hrs) perfume, with a soft elegant sillage, and it's very very seductive. Very wonderful. My husband swoons over me whenever I wear it.

There is so much more going on in this scent besides the patchouli, but it's definitely detectable. It reminds me a bit of Black Orchid, minus that odd unpleasant note that always stood out to me, but Essence de Patchouli is smoother than Black Orchid. It's a very warm and fuzzy oriental, just slightly sweet with a hint of woody vanilla. The notes present themselves as a whole with an amber effect, rounded out by rose and slightly powdery with orris. It's very complex and long-lasting on my skin, though its aura stays fairly close to me. I've had the good fortune to try all the women's scents in the Alyssa Ashley line and they are among the best for their price point, and better than many at higher price points, too. Shopping for a bottle even as I type this. . . . :-)

So glad I stumbled upon this patchouli storm in a bottle. It is so robust, mystical, and delicious. I love how the packaging is so unpretentious but then you spray it, and you are engulfed in a cloud of dark patchouli and musk. I agree with a previous reviewer who drew a comparison to Auric Blends - it definitely has that same smoky sweet psychedelic vibe. It projects beautifully and has a long lifespan on the skin. Essence de Patchouli is a dusky, full-bodied patchouli wine (I doubt such a thing exists) that will intoxicate men and women with its earthy spirits.
