Essence de Patchouli

This is bold, dark, deep and heavy, but there’s something creamy and warm to it as well. The longevity and projection are great and the longer it’s on my skin, the better it gets. On the right person, this is amazing, but it’s definitely not for everyone. For example, I seem to be able to pull it off quite well and have received many compliments on it, but all with the note that they found it to suit me very well, but would never wear it themselves. It also reminds me of a teacher from when I was about 11 years old. She had a dark gothic look and her perfume filled the room, which I still recall as if it was yesterday. Back then it made me think of a dark church, cold but cozy at the same time, because of burning candles and incense. The idea of this being a hippie perfume suits it quite well in my opinion. It might be unisex, but I (f) am not sure if I would like this on my partner (m), though I suppose that has more to do with personality/type than gender. This is great layered with Ambre Gris, also by Alyssa Ashley!

Una niña me preguntó que por qué olía a incendio forestal, y desde entonces no salgo de casa sin perfumar mi ropa con un poquito este perfume. He leído comentarios que dicen que no se nota el patchouli, en mi caso, nada mas lejos de la realidad. Claramente no es esencia de patchouli pura de la que venden en los mercadillos hippies, pero da esa sensación como a humo que a mí me evoca el patchouli; de una manera más floral, terrosa, y un poco almizclada. El precio es top para la calidad que tiene (aunque hay que esperarse un buen ratillo para que se acabe de evaporar el alcohol). Es de muy larga duración, sobre todo en ropa. Y junto al secado da la sensación de que ese patchouli se intensifica. No tiene tanta fuerza como para abrumar al de al lado, siempre que no se aplique más de lo necesario. Cabe añadir, y perdón por el lenguaje, que el atomizado es un mojón. No atomiza, escupe.

Oh divine perfume! Perfect patchouli for me.. I love it. It's gentle and soft, one of the loveliest patchouli's I have ever smelt. I love patchouli, but not in all perfumes, but this one is gorgeous. Love it. Beautifully sensual, elegant and refined. For a very classy lady. I really think an ambery (even though there's no amber listed) smell is what makes this so good. It softens the patchouli, takes the edge off it, so it's easy and comforting. The ambery aura is brilliant in this. I wonder what makes that? Maybe it's the labdanum? And there's lovely rich rose. Very sensual wood element, and the dry-down is gorgeous - soft and creamy. It's a gorgeous, sensual, strong and rich, long lasting (18hrs) perfume, with a soft elegant sillage, and it's very very seductive. Very wonderful. My husband swoons over me whenever I wear it.

There is so much more going on in this scent besides the patchouli, but it's definitely detectable. It reminds me a bit of Black Orchid, minus that odd unpleasant note that always stood out to me, but Essence de Patchouli is smoother than Black Orchid. It's a very warm and fuzzy oriental, just slightly sweet with a hint of woody vanilla. The notes present themselves as a whole with an amber effect, rounded out by rose and slightly powdery with orris. It's very complex and long-lasting on my skin, though its aura stays fairly close to me. I've had the good fortune to try all the women's scents in the Alyssa Ashley line and they are among the best for their price point, and better than many at higher price points, too. Shopping for a bottle even as I type this. . . . :-)

So glad I stumbled upon this patchouli storm in a bottle. It is so robust, mystical, and delicious. I love how the packaging is so unpretentious but then you spray it, and you are engulfed in a cloud of dark patchouli and musk. I agree with a previous reviewer who drew a comparison to Auric Blends - it definitely has that same smoky sweet psychedelic vibe. It projects beautifully and has a long lifespan on the skin. Essence de Patchouli is a dusky, full-bodied patchouli wine (I doubt such a thing exists) that will intoxicate men and women with its earthy spirits.

I’m very happy that I discovered this one. It’s such a cheapie, but to me, when I think “patchouli centered fragrance”, this is the kind of thing that I’m thinking about! It’s a similar patchouli experience compared to the classic Reminiscence Patchouli, but with a little bit more bells and whistles. Beautifully blended and unisex. My bottle has a unisex logo on it, unlike the one pictured here. Highly recommend for every patchouli lover. Makes me very curious about the rest of this brand.

I have a 50 ml bottle, I'm glad I have it in my collection, it's a unisex fragrance, the bottle is transparent with a unisex sign, heavy, dark, mysterious, sweet, and rich, it smells like the low-oder Monte Carlo perfume. The smell of the night or cold times of the day, but because of its powderiness you can use it as you want, a very nice bottle. I like the whole thing. I would recommend! 9/10

Dry yet watery patchouli, starts off with the softest geranium and rose then veers directly into a powdery, lightly spicy patchouli/musk base. Maintains that dichotomous dry yet watery profile for most of the scent's duration. Lasts around 5 hrs, mostly a skin scent after the initial hour. Perfect for indoors in autumn, winter, and particularly cool springs. Definitely worth the try.

Adore this perfume. Strong sassy and in your face. Perfect for layering. Often spritz with Rose Oud or Clinique Aromatics in White for a blast of steely sensuality. This perfume has great presence and retails at a great price. Super recommended,these Ashley scents areclimbing up there towards niche level perfumery punch.

It's impossible to describe how absolutely gorgeous and stunning this perfume is. It's woody, earthy, with that orris root floral powdery nuance and a cedar/musky patchouli dry down. such elegance! It smells like the woods after a rain shower. A top-notch, quality perfume.

A rich, almost almond-y amber. The patchouli sits at the center of the amber. Alyssa Ashley Essence of Patchouli has intimate spillage but lasts forever. It has a rich, beautifully blended drydown and is an extraordinary bargain!

This one was a pleasant surprise! As much I was disappointed with `Musk by Alyssa Ashley` this one scored top points with longevity and in general. I`m not really a patchouli fan, but wanted something like that for the autumn days since a girl passed me on the street on a sunny autumn day smelling like pure patchouli. So I ordered this one and tried. It last a long time, especially on fabrics - could smell it days after, which is amazing for a cheapie like this (I have the older edition and paid abt 16 euros for a 100ml bottle) so no complaints there. As for the scent itself, the drydown is pure, soft, slightly musky patchouli, initially it smells odd sprayed on but in about 10 minutes it starts to show itself. There is a slight cardboard-impression there though that is coming and going, which could be just the nature of patchouli as it is..There is also an underlying sweetness in the background, can`t identify the note, maybe vanilla, definitely not rose or geranium, most notes are just not there for me, it really smells like an `essence`.. Not bad at all, quite happy with this perf as it is, now the only thing I`d like to know is if the juice in the new packaging is any different, better even? Any answers appreciated!

labdanum. this perfume, because of the rather dominant note, is strikingly similar to ambre gris by the same house. i can hardly detect the patchouli after 5 minutes. (perhaps it is present, but has been pushed out by the labdanum). sweet and amber, slight powder. rather luscious, despite the lack of patchouli. where is it? NebraskaLovesScent describes this "warm and fuzzy" one, infinitely better than I. not a patch (pardon the pun) on Lacroix or Let it Rock for big patchouli blast. or even fancy nights and midnight poison. surprising, as it does appear to be the dominant note. but not for me. last about 12 hours and counting! skin scent after 4 hours. i tried and tested many patchouli fragrances since this review and eventually discovered my patchouli fix and it is Patchouli Antique by Les Nereides. Lovely!

After a matter of minutes the patchouli wanders backstage and then a loud skanky amber, (of the incense stick variety) takes over. Strange that amber is not listed in the notes. The sillage is very sweet when I wave the tester strip. Interestingly, on the box it says Perris Group - Monte Carlo. Could be the exact same juice that is is in the Perris lineup, (the name Patchouli Essence is exactly the same on the Perris offering)...in which case, go for the Ashley release...it's a lot cheaper.

I found my bottle in unused 'cupboard of doom' as we call it. It has been kept there forgotten about for 10 years. My juice is really dark, so I cautiously sprayed a tiny amount on my arm. WOW ,it's matured to a wonderful sweet, vanilla patchouli thats a little reminiscent of Kayali Sugared Patchouli now. Im so glad i found it. 🥰🥰

This review is based on the unisex formulation not listed yet here at fragrantica. This is a patchouli bomb! -- sweet, creamy and cozy .. I really like it. Mine is marked as an eau parfumee concentration -- the projection and longevity on my skin is above average -- for the price this is a no brainer.

Just a brief comment, it's like Amber by Reminiscence, I like it, it's very warm, classy and sensual.

I bought Alyssa's Oud Pour Lui and it was a cheap blind buy. I really loved it so I thought I'll get something else from the brand and after a quick consideration based on the notes I got the Patchouli fragrance. It's light and you can't really smell it. That's all.

Not even a hint of patch, all musk but very pleasant, anyway. Good longegivity, moderate sillage. If you are into musk /amber this really is a bargain

I think it's about time I accept I will never get along with guiac wood. "Phenolic" doesn't feel quite right, but it's much too close to the smell of sharpie markers... and now I'm thinking of road construction. I hate the noxious, industrial smell of paving tar, and blended with patchouli and vanilla... it's nauseating. Like charred chocolate cake and rubber. A shame. I do love the discourse between the vanilla and the patchouli in this perfume, but my nose doesn't like the guiac. I will continue the search for an alternative to my beloved Reminiscence.

This is all amber to me. It is fabulous, but fabulous amber none the less. It smells extremely high quality for what it is, but like a lot if high quality niche scents, sillage is poor, longevity is great. I think this would be a great perfume to layer with. I layered it so far with Crystal Noir, reformulated Obsession and Yves Rocher Coconut, it worked to amplify all of them. I think this could be layered with 75% of my wardrobe. Spraying it on cothes didn't help the sillage, but it made all my clothes smell wonderful. I am surprised they didn't label this unisex considering that is their logo, as this is totally unisex (actually, I would have guessed it was being sold for men, if I had to) Totally worth the 20$ The only complaint I have is my bottle is a clear one, I rather like the white and think it suits the scent.

A very creamy and soapy smell. My boyfriend calls it old fashioned, whatever that means. Dries down to an extremely creamy musk and what to my nose smells like amber. I cannot detect any patchouli, despite the name. Long lasting and with a pleasent projection. Definitly has some expensiveness to it - could have me fooled for being a Chanel perfume. The bottle is tall and slender and with a very plastic-y cap. Unfortunatly too soapy for me. I have 2x new full 100 ml bottles (old design) for swap if anyone's interested. Located in Denmark.

Heerlijke geur,het doet me denken aan flowerpower maar dan luxer.Moeilijk te omschrijven,ik vind het een vrij zware geur,maar niet misselijk makend,blijft lang hangen ,bij mij tenminste en al helemaal op kleding.Ik heb ook meerdere patchouli geuren en olie,maar voor mijn gevoel ruik ik hier meer musk,zachter en ronder dan alleen musk,ik vind het een sensuele geur en vele malen beter en sterker dan de musk,witte musk van Alyssa Ashley...ik kan het moeilijk onder woorden brengen

This fragrance is addictive. I find myself reaching for this daily. I cant stop sniffing my arm. It is not a huge projecter but its just right and it lasts forever. When i dries down 10 hours later if has a striking resemblance to 1996 by Byredo. This is the best bargain fragrance i have ever gotten. Though the price has started to climb as of recently. But if you can get this for under $100 it is still a grest buy. Becauce the quality is of $250 extrait de parfum. IMHO.

This is one of those scents where what I’m smelling bears no resemblance to the perceptions of others. I’m becoming very cautious of anything with geranium in the top notes. In Essence de Patchouli, it overwhelms me. I can’t deal with it at all. The patchouli is barely there - I can’t find the cedar or vanilla either. The composition is an entirely unpleasant, cheap, chemical, synthetic assault to me, a total blind buy failure.

I usually really dislike pathcouli, but this was lovely, so that might mean it's a bad choice for people looking for heavy, woody,hippy shop patchouli. At the beginning, it does smell like hippy patchouli out of the vial, but it dries rapidly to a lovely wood powder rose, very similar after dry down to Calligraphy Rose. Smells 1970s, in a lovely rose perfume, rose incense way. Quite a pleasant surprise

Wow this is amazing! It smells oudy rose on the initial blast. But turns slightly sweet and powdery in the dry down. This is a unisex scent and VERY high quality. This is higher quality than quite a few $200-$300 fragrances i have in my collection. And it last over 12 hours. This is a gem. And its exactly the same juice as Perris Monte Carlo Essence de Patchouli.

Ha call me a pleb, but this bears a surprising resemblance to my sample of Coromandel from Chanel. So much so that I feel I can hold off on the 140 quid purchase I was planning! Yes of course ingredients, sillage and longevity are bound to be lesser but this will do me rather well for the time being. A lovely creamy patchouli.

Smoky balsamic agarbathi incense burner goodness with a subdued patchouli note and more on the amber side. It is so cheap and high quality, quite natural-smelling to boot. One should apply it liberally and far from the skin/using the "walk through mist" technique for best effect.

I've just discovered this little jem. It's more amber than patchouli to my nose: it reminds me Ambre by Reminiscence, ora a softer, more rosy version of Ambraliquida by L'Erbolario. So powdery, intense, refined: a patchouli for those who don''t love the patchouli:)

Smells wonderful on initial spray, light and unisex and then drydown is a powerful scrubber because it is too leathery with oakmoss. Go for Sana Jardin Tiger by her Side which is a much more gorgeous well-rounded patchouli with linear drydown.

An easily enjoyed, perfumy, velvety, sweet patchouli for 20 bucks that, bonus, smells like an expensive designer fragrance typical of 10 years ago. In fact, is this a dupe of Essence de Patchouli Perris Monte Carlo?

This might have come out in 2009 but to me it’s an 80s powder bomb worn by a woman named Deb in a long black leather duster driving a candy apple red IROC-Z. Deb smokes Merits, gives no fucks and takes no shit.

If a perfume has Patchouli in it , I know I’m going to love it, and this is no exception. Practically identical to Perris Monte Carlo Essence de Patchouli though much more affordable.

This is a lovely office friendly amber, 99,99% twin sister of L'erbolario'Ambraliquida but who the hell decided to call this Patchouli!!!???
