Nine

I was asked to be a model for an American Crew hair stylist and was given this cologne as part of my compensation. The general feeling or vibe I get off of this cologne is a barbershop in a bottle, and rightfully so (being that American Crew is a men's hair product company). I find that American Crew's "Nine" has a unique and overlooked quality. It has a mature smell to it, but can be worn by young men. It reminds me of the old Ralph Lauren cologne's that my grandfather or father would wear, but with a touch of citrus to give it a younger feeling. This cologne is clean, fresh, masculine and subtle. It would be an excellent cologne for a guy who isn't into fragrance but wants a year around signature scent that is safe for any situation.

A good casual, safe and very people pleasing scent. Very generic and synthetic. A solid cheapie ideal as a daily workhorse scent. Despite the note breakdown here at fragrantica, I mainly get a fresh, clean and inoffensive smell of apples. American Crew Nine smells like a woodsy and citrusy apple flavored barbershop fragrance. Sillage and projection - quite limited and moderate. Longevity: Probably in the 3-6 hour range. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. For the price it's a steal. Nothing out of the ordinary though, but still very enjoyable. Final score: 7/10.

Really like this scent ! It opens up with a nice blast of citrusy because of the mandarin orange and grapefruit which stays along all its longevity softened by the herbal notes of rosemary and clary sage. 4-6 hours on my skin, fresh and better suited for spring-summer !

Nice fresh safe scent that never fails to give you a compliment or two, nothing groundbraking just a nice fresh fragrance for everyday use.

I have to say this scent is nothing special. It's very cheap, but scent is safe and fresh. Good for casual situations. Overall 6/10.

To me this smells like a lot like Terre D'hermes !!! If your not familiar with Terre D'hermes its a polarizing fragrance that has a strong orange note with some herbalness to it. This has that same vibe but this isnt as refined BUT it is more pleasant and I think its a lot more wearable. Personally I didnt like Terre D'hermes but this fragrance I actually do like. Its not a favorite of mine but I do like it. Performance on this is ok as it lasts 4-6 hours and projects about average as well. Overall rating Id give this a 6.5 out of 10 ! Its an ok scent that is decent enough but this wont be a favorite of mine anytime soon

Normally when reviewing there are a few things I don’t do. One is not referencing the marketing, box, and/or bottle, and the other is not referencing other fragrances. But in this review I am making an exception. The box has one of the silliest texts on fragrance packaging since Sex Appeal by Jovan. American Crew Nine’s box tag line says “developed and tested to be liked by 9 out of 10 women.” I laughed, cried, and shook my head when I read this absurdity. Then I realized, with horror, that this is where the name “nine” comes from. Oh. My. God. I can just imagine the marketing team under tons of time pressure at American Crew corporate when they came up with this name and tag line. But this is about fragrance, not marketing, so here we go! American Crew Nine opens with an aldehyde burst followed on the coattails by bitter orange and a quite sour grapefruit. These are the same two prominent top notes as Terre D’Hermes, done almost identically, so I understand the parallels from previous reviewers, especially as these notes stay and dance the whole life of the fragrance, in a similar way. Next, quite quickly, we have a nice, soft, almost creamy lavender note, and this does nicely to balance the citrus, which is still existing. Soon enough, we have the drydown, and that’s where the herbs of rosemary and then later, sage emerges, offering a dryness to the otherwise “juicy”/damp fragrance - these notes are quite soft but they are there nonetheless, overshadowed when the opening citrus pops it’s head around the corner occasionally. Sandalwood, in a very distant and slightly smoky rendition comes at the very end, but it is not pronounced enough to be considered a complete contribution to the fragrance. Below average silage, and way, way below average longevity. The journey described above is a 1-hour ride, with many sprays in many places, and in different levels of warmth. This review has been developed and tested to be liked by 9 out of 10 women.

I've got to give credit where credit is due... I can't speak to how this translates from initial spritz, close inspection, or particular nuances of the scent's evolution, as I haven't worn it myself. However, my coworker was wearing this yesterday, and it smelled incredible on him! To the point that yes, I asked what it was. And yes, I felt silly because I've paid a lot more for fragrances which carried a fraction of the appeal. Again, I don't know how I would feel about this if I were the wearer. Perhaps my snobbery would kick in, and I'd pick the fragrance apart. But getting occasional whiffs of its bright (yet soft) greenness throughout the day compelled me to ask about it. It definitely has longevity, as I could still catch it at hour 8 into the shift, but it wasn't an invasive monster of a scent by any means. Definitely a "guy" frag, but without relying on nose-burning aquatics to make its point.

Just picked this up for 25 bucks, it was in a box set with a bottle of American Crew 3 in 1 Shampoo. Of course it was a blind buy cause i couldn't take it out of the box to smell, but i'm pleasantly surprised. It's got everything i like in cologne, fresh, clean and simple. It's not overdone, it's got a very light, fresh spicy kind of a vibe going on. Very good for all year round, but best for hot summer days. I recommend this for sure. Solid 9/10 :)

Nice, fresh and soft. Office safe, won't offend anyone. Sillage is rather low, but overall nice scent. Could have been a winner if it was a bit stronger.
