Badr Al Badour

This is not really a review, it is a warning. Amouage has rereleased a lot of their attars (in red boxes again) for distribution in the local Omani market only. They are very different from the original red box releases. The first release of Amouage Attars were in a white box. The second was a red box, with a clear Amouage sticker on the outside of the cellophane that would be gone when a person opened the package. The third batch was also a red box, but with the sticker on the inside of the cellophane so it stayed on the bottom of the box when opened. The fourth batch are the black boxes. And now the new red boxes that also have no sticker on the bottom of the box. Each batch is quite different. I have a 3ml sample of the new Omani local release of Badr al Badour as well as a full 12ml original red box Badr al Badour. It is a different fragrance altogether than the new red boxes. The new Omani red box is NOTHING like old Badr al Badour, it is much closer to Tribute actually. It is now a dark smoky rose with some sharp greeness. There is no detectable Oud now. The old red box is a beautiful and very well balanced Rose/Oud. It is important to know what kind of box your samples came from, and if you’re buying a red box, to know when it was purchased. These Amouage attars are not cheap so it’s prudent to research exactly what you’re getting.

First impression sampling for the first time is of a rose drizzled with gunpowder and motor oil, or turpentine, something aggresive but comforting at the same time. It really reminds me of a tool box! I love industrial smells in general and garage smells in particular so this was not a deal breaker. After an hour the rose intensified and the scent turned very womanly, I wonder what kind of rose they used because it doesn't smell red or pink or yellow. A couple of hours later I'm sorrounded by the unique fragrance that can only emanate from high end antique furniture and heavy carpeting in a tastefully decorated room that is clean although it's well lived in. The quality of this attar is unparalleled, the concept might be too daring for casual wearers but I love it and plan to sample more Amouage attars. This review is for the red box version

This is my favourite Amouage attar. It is a step up from Tribute which i love too. The rose is more intense, not as smoky as Tribute and a beautiful oud drydown.

Beautiful, but strong. Probably depends on your climate, but in the cold here it's too strong for me. The ambergris is nice 'though!

Ayoon Al Maha on me, but it souns like the love story of Ayoon Al Maha blossomed into something much more mature. Good.

i felt sad..this past few days when i got the news that amouage attar is not available anymore....

I purchased a 1ml sample on Ebay, the picture was of the black box. IMHO I don't think the black box attars are very nice. This goes on very sharp and astringent, it reminds me of floor cleaner. There is a very thin, thin thread of saffron. Mostly it's like Pine Sol. Very expensive Pine Sol. Guess I missed out on the amazingness of this attar! Oh well. Save your money ladies and gents, save your money. (I also purchased a NIB black box Amouage Attar of Tayyiba, which is also sharp and not very nice. This is what I'm basing my opinion of the black box attars on, as well as having seen opinions elsewhere stating that the black box versions aren't the greatest.)

This is the last of my Amouage attar samples from either PC or STC, and it is much like a few of the others. Lots of rose -- HEAPS, in fact. So many of these attars have a very similar DNA to them -- taif, sandalwood and traces of oud, all in different proportions and all with different potency, but the DNA remains -- I'm afraid to say that, to the untrained nose, a lot of these would smell really samey -- like, too similar to each other, so much so that it almost doesn't make sense to buy them. I know there are nuanced differences and all of that, but they don't come through within the first 2 or 3 wears -- you really REALLY need to immerse yourself in this and then breathe it all in... This one has a more prominent oud, and other traces of wood and possibly ambergris -- but by and large, I probs couldn't tell this one apart from the others. In 2014, I ended up trying 10 or 12, and settled on one, and I think I did the right thing. Rose that is smooth, majestic and regal, backed with deep, sophisticated sandalwood, and tiny traces of oud, minor, but present...

truly your typical oud-rose profile but done right! i like how the rose note sustains through the day, slowly dialling back down to let the ouds play out and mingle together in harmony: it synergises, doesn’t dissipate, and retains enough character to remain seen. they somehow sustained the rose note into the 5-7h stage, blending together while also tuning the citronellol with the rest of the notes— it could be attributed to the use of synthetic rose molecules (which i appreciate— it doesn’t come across as striking/starkly dissimilar in comparison to the rose in the opening) love it!

As much as I absolutely adore Tribute, this one is soooooo heavy on the rose on my skin. Seriously, I can't smell anything but the rose...it overpowers all of the other notes for me and I was hoping for more oud, wood and smoke. I know there have differences in batches for these attars, but all the reviews on this one are so mixed, maybe it's batch differences? I highly doubt if I will wear this one again and am willing to do a trade so it can be properly enjoyed.

Ooh, oh my God... I haven't had this level of sensual experience in a very long time OK, let me try and explain: opening is smoky and dry; a dead ringer for tobacco. I wouldn't call this feminine, but wait... There it is, a soft, slow moving current of lush. This is pretty much a very high end tobacco scent; I've never experienced oud like this. I could just roll in it. A little goes a long way, though, so I don't need to. But wow, what an amazing fragrance!

Oooooooh,so potent. It is truly Arabian vibe,I feel like a Bauduin in the desert. Smoky ,desert,rose.smoke that comes from cooking on fire,heavy and serious. It's to much for me,brings out memories of ancient middle ages times. Maybe it will be better appreciated in a very cold weather. I have tried another Attar from Amouage,not yet in the data base, Salamah which I liked better on me.

Wow! Beautiful, opulent, powerful, sensual...everything about Badr al Badour is simply grand. Just a simple drop and you feel surrounded by a cloud of sultry oud with rose, but with a twist. It is not the typical rose-oud perfume, this is way beyond that. Leathery, smoky, animalic, medicinal, but smooth and delicate at the same time.

the dry, dusty oud here is front and centre. it's quite genuine, or at least smells as such, and is the main character in this composition. there are traces of some floral sweetness and some form of woodsiness, but the oud overshadows it all. if you love your oud, this one is for you...
