[FEB. 2021] I love those fragrances that pick, like, one-to-four flowers and add a heap of supporting animalic, balsamic notes to them. Usually leads to something stunning. And to me, this is it! If MDCI's Un Coeur En Mai is the Hyperreal Spring green-floral that smells of hot sun-kissed meadowgrass, wildflower bouquets and petitgrain pollens, if Creed's Acqua Fiorentina is the dreamy butterfly-delicate Rococo pastel floral with its buttercreamy pillow soft melon, peach, violets and mimosa-orangeflowers, Amouage's Beloved is the Holy Grail baroque flower church bouquet with delicious resinous Tolu Balsam waxed roses, dried fruit spiced Jasmines and Ylang Ylangs, and animalic Civet-fur coated Violets. Beloved truly feels like a magical, royal labour of love with its patiently selected notes all working in song-and-dance unison. A work of olfactory art worthy of an art noveau fairy tale procession. There are indeed similarities to MDCI Parfum's Chypre Palatin as someone who owns both. But where my nose picked up (in Chypre Palatin) extra hints of powderiness, downplayed florals which are hushed away for the animalic theatricals, both Beloved and Palatin have a superb performance with their Tolu Balsams. Beloved is definitely more floral in a way that smells of a vased arrangement than a mere shop bouquet. You can pick up a fruit-like balsam with Beloved, recalling of plums, and dates. Lovingly honourable and Arabic in this display. It dries down after 6-8 hours to a sort of vintage powdered soap, which in other fragrances would be the highlight, but there is a lot of power to this fragrance that such effervescent fizziness is the final destination until next spray. Recommended olfactory work of art, and underrated because Beloved and Beloved Man are their separate series in the Amouage catalogue, not like the also great Lyric Womans, Jubilations, Memoir Man, and such. Beloved Woman is a symphonic, old-world perfume, classic yet complex, that delivers the opulent elegance that Amouage is known for. It smells like old money - mature, feminine and utterly beautiful from first spray to final fade. I am a big Amouage fan, and Beloved is up there with the best. A rich, floral oriental-chypre with herbal nuances, it is reminiscent of classic scents such as Patou Joy, or Aromatics Elixir. But it is even better than either of those examples. Beloved opens with peppery cardamom, followed by a rich, powdery floral accord. Led by a lush, sweet rose note, it is bolstered by some herbal-floral chamomile and beautiful, aromatic lavender. A clean yet sweet white floral accord in the background rounds it out nicely. The clove note adds warm spiciness, complementing the florals while remaining nicely restrained. The patchouli emerges after a little while, adding a nice earthiness, and a smooth, resinous amber accord emerges at the heart. There is a distinctive violet note here, adding a beautiful, powdery softness that contracts perfectly with the amber-patchouli accord. I am partial to violet, and its inclusion here is unusual - not a top note, and able to hold its own among myriad rich notes, while not being one bit out of place. The amber accord remains until the drydown, becoming more animalic thanks to the leather and civet notes. It is not sweet, despite the hint of vanilla that emerges as it fades. It is a beautifully rendered, nuanced amber accord that evolves on my skin as time goes by. Woody notes creep in as it fades, along with soft musk. It fades to a musky amber skin scent with hints of wood and vanilla. Sillage is strong and longevity is day-long - excellent performance, typical of Amouage. A delight from start to finish, Beloved is a masterpiece that pays homage to great perfumes of the past. Another full bottle to add to my list. Aptly named. 5/5.

The fragrance opens with a waxy, metallic aldehydic touch — like the smoke of an old piece of charcoal resting on an aluminum plate in an antique wooden censer — accompanied by a floral chamomile note that is both sweet and medicinal, and a velvety leather nuance blended with floral tones of rose and indolic jasmine, highlighted by spicy hints of cardamom and clove. The opening feels rich, intertwined, and multidimensional — smoky, floral, and spicy all at once. The final impression is that of a complex oriental chypre — carrying the sharp aldehydic bite of Paloma Picasso, the classic floral depth of 1000 by Jean Patou, and the leathery elegance of Azurée by Estée Lauder, yet rendered through a smoky oriental lens, making Beloved Woman a truly masterful work of olfactory art.

Beloved, is a perfume that celebrates the beauty of women with an exquisite and sophisticated composition. It opens with a bouquet of herbal, aromatic and floral notes, where lavender and chamomile stand out, providing camphorated freshness and delicacy. Amouage has created a masterpiece with Beloved, a perfume that she falls in love with and captivates. It is without a doubt, another of my favorites.

Garlands of pink roses, delicate bunches of dried herbs, an anointing with sweet resins, a freshly oiled but well-worn saddle, and a dollop of creamy vanilla, all tenderly wrapped in a cloak of woods and musk. That is Beloved. Queen Elizabeth's most magnificent residence is Windsor Castle. Beloved reminds me of her country home, Sandringham, where she gets to take off her crown and ride horses though the countryside. Beloved is a grand perfume, and don't you forget it, but it is also disarming, charming, optimistic, and approachable. Perhaps it is due to the strong dose of dried chamomile (and I am convinced there is a hay note as well) that Beloved reminds me of Aromatics Elixir. This is a modern chypre with a vintage feel due to the herbs, patchouli, and clove. Clove is one of my favorite notes in all of perfumerie, and I usually find that it provides a dusty effect, rather than piquancy like cinnamon or pepper, as it does here. Despite the lack of oakmoss, I am pleasantly surprised at just how chypre-esque this actually smells. Beloved is a perfume that foregoes pomp and circumstance, yet gentility remains. Amouage makes perfumes for kings and queens. Beloved fits right in and offers something new to their lineup--a demonstration of vulnerability that is lacking in most of their other fragrances. Side note: Beloved tends to perform best in cold weather. In warm weather, it just evaporates from my skin.

Elegant Refined Classic Sleek Sensual Vintage vibes This is one of the discontinued Amouages which I wanted so badly. The blend has a much characteristics from a classic French perfumery. This is for all who wants to feel nostalgic. It’s the most perfect with a beautiful evening dress but as I don’t have those kind of occasions so much I’m enjoying it at home with a cozy cardigan as well. The scent itself is strange on my skin: I get anosmic after the first minutes but my husband said it’s there after many hours. If I spray it on the clothes I notice it after I haven’t worn this perfume for a while. It’s sad since I adore this scent. I find myself sniffing my clothes many times per day while wearing some other scent. 😅 Beloved is a complex mix of florals and herbal, aromatic, spicy notes with an old school base with Civet, Castoreum, Ambergris and Musk among others. This scent is actually not Amouage style at all because of it's transparent texture, it reminds me more of Chanel's and Guerlain's creations. I am finally the proud owner of this precious fragrance. I wanted to buy it since it came out in 2012, but the price scared me off. So a couple of years have gone by and I felt that now was the right time! It is LOVELY! I love it and my husband loves it too! This is the second perfume in our 15 year relationship that he said he really liked on me ( the other one being Coco Mademoiselle). Beloved smells like a symphony, broad, full, difficult for me to detect all the different notes. What I can detect (on my very dry skin) are rose, vanilla, sandalwood, leather and spices. The overall feel is delicious, feminine and a little bit spicy. I live in the Caribbean and this fragrance behaves very well in the heat and humidity. My colleagues tell me that I leave a trail of beautiful scent even though I don't use a lot (2 big sprays max). The longevity is about 6-7 hours, as is expected of an Amouage. The wait for this precious perfume is over and it was well worth it! P.S. in order to save on this perfume I transfer it in a Travalo travel atomiser and use mini sprays instead of big sprays so that the perfume doesn't go to waste. I do this with all my favourite perfumes.

I already went twice to Harrods only purely for the purpose of smelling Beloved. It didn't disappoint, well, it actually made me want to go back again. I'm not good with describing fragrances - I can only say whether I like and want a perfume or not and if I feel good wearing it. And Beloved - is simply beloved, especially after an hour or so - I just love the way it radiates from the skin. So now I'm calculating: if I save £54 a month for 5 months I can get it right for New Year:-) I think I will - it's worth it. Update: I bought full bottle at the end of October as I couldn't wait any longer not to mention until Christmas. There is something about this scent hat I absolutely adore. The aura of warmth it gives me, the way it makes me feel. And as insanely as it may sound I mostly sleep in it, a bit of waste maybe since I'm single, but hey... it's definitely too good for work. I think this is the most 'selfish' perfume I ever bought - I don't want to 'share' it with anybody. I don't want to be asked what it is, where I bought it and how much it costed. After all it's my Beloved and it's definitely not for sharing! :-)

It seemed for a long time that my favourite Amouage fragrance was always their contemporary blockbuster release; first Gold, then Jubilation 25, moving quickly onto Epic, before finally settling on Beloved Woman which has held its favoured status now for seven years. I am no less fickle today than before, so my relatively long-term affection for Beloved can only be explained by its astounding beauty. A full-scale olfactory offensive headed by Dia’s bountiful pink rose over raw hide leather, smouldering cloves and a powdery aromatic accord of hay-like chamomile, lavender and clary sage open what is a BIG composition. In the heart, syrupy liquorish nuanced immortelle fortifies the opening’s rose and sage as benzoin leads the charge toward the spiced animalics and powdery frankincense and balsams of the base. Beloved Woman is grand and glamorously animalic in the retro sense with some serious heft and authority. This is everything but the kitchen sink perfumery, my favourite kind! Longevity is great at 10+ hours with good, radiant projection. Completely unisex. 9.5/10

EN Here was already said so much about the Beloved women, that anything else would be just a boring repeat. I would add only one thing none told here: it is also perfect for men (I know, that there is a male version of Beloved, but it has nothing in common with the "feminine" one). I think that also with this perfume Amouage follows its old tradition of creating the masculine and feminine version of perfume with the same name, but about of its ingredients, there's nothing here that will make him "only women's perfume." IT Qui hanno già detto così tanto riguarda il profumo Beloved, che qualsiasi altra cosa sarebbe un noioso ripetizione. Vorrei aggiungere soltanto una cosa non detta: è perfetto anche per i maschi (lo so, che esiste la sua versione maschile, ma non ha nulla in comune con quella "femminile"). Secondo me anche in questo caso Amouage segue la sua vecchia tradizione di creare sotto lo stesso nome un profumo maschile e anche femminile, ma riguarda gli ingredienti, qui non c'è niente che lo possa renderlo un profumo "solo da donna".

Beloved opens with an indescribably soft, yearning, golden floral chord. it’s fluffy and powdery, and the rose and chamomile seem to have fused into a single breathy, tender, pale-gold flower within a flurry of soft animalic fuzz and boozy-amber notes. I am absolutely in love. this is a grand, old-fashioned floral ready for a night at the theater, with a fine and fearless romantic spirit. Beloved has the welcome golden-herbal sharpness of chamomile but is much lighter in tone than other chamomile-forward fragrances I know. It doesn’t have the dark moodiness of Aromatics Elixir or the earthy skankiness of Oeilleres or Parfum de Peau. Beloved is pretty tame by comparison, more floral and less herbal or animalic. But it does have that shrewdness, like the golden eye of a hawk, with the hiss of chamomile and civet and aldehydes in the opening. It dries down within a few hours to a faintly spicy golden skin musk, eminently comfortable. One of the few perfumes that tempts me to buy a full bottle someday.

This is the type of perfume that any classy lady that wants to stand out, smell rich, powerful and intoxicating should wear. The moment I sprayed this perfume on my wrist for the first time, I knew it reminded me of something but I didn’t know what, until today. It reminded me of Tom Ford Tobacco Oud, only that Beloved Woman is a bit sweeter and more floral. I absolutely adore this fragrance and will be very stingy with where I wear it too because I don’t want to waste this beauty on the wrong space and crowd. This will definitely be making the rounds at elegant dinner parties and special occasions. It’s a shame it is discontinued but I am super happy I snagged a full bottle online so I can enjoy this for some years to come. Compared to the new releases from the House of Amouage, I must say the old scents are way better and worth the money you spend on it. Sadly, not the case with the newer releases. Oh well, all I can say is Beloved Woman is greatly loved by me 💛💛💛

Amazing classic scent and, to be honest, I don't even know which notes are responsible for my infatuation with this fragrance... Although the overlap is minimal, Beloved reminds me a lot of my other fave, Miss Dior (original). Both are what I call grown-up scents, perhaps even 40+ scents. No soapy florals and no sugary sweetness here so, my guess is, the much younger crowd will not like this juice; they might even call it old-lady'ish ;) Beloved is refined, elegant, powerful - a well dressed, soft spoken female executive who runs a multi billion dollar company, who means what she says, and never has to repeat herself. Or apologize. Beloved strikes me as an evening scent, that might work best at the opera, or a dinner at some fancy restaurant, or in the bedroom but, again, this is not a submissive scent. If you think about wearing Beloved to the boardroom, go easy; it is powerful. Longevity: moderate Sillage: moderate

Oh WOW, this one just blossoms in hot weather. I must admit I wasn't that sold on it when I first got my sample but now, just WOW, simply W O W !!! I do realise this is not much of a review but at the moment am too much in an awe to be objective. I WANT this bottle now, then I will review properly, I promise. Edit: So I have shelled out for this stunning scent and here I am, a month later, still loving it, wearing it almost daily, being obsessed about it and having near enough anxiety attacks and withdrawal symptoms when not wearing it. Yes, this is the effect it has on me. I particularly love the opening, slightly sharp but sweet and musky rose that lingers on for about an hour or two. It works very well in hot weather like I mentioned above and strangely enough, it smells completely different on a cold cloudy day. Yes, this Amouage is a serious contender to become my beloved Amouage.

This is what I imagine the body odor of a genderless but slightly boy faced angel would smell like as he reaches his wings around you to protect you from harm. And you can smell his flesh and feathers and oils. It’s this angelic spicy musk that’s is so healing to me but not stinky bc he’s an angel and free of filth. it’s my all time favorite amouage and I’ve tried them all save for bracken and beach hut. There’s just something about this one that is in its own world completely yet retaining that amouage composure and pride. Wish more people connected with it like they do the others. Recently I made a chamomile tea with spices and it smelled exactly like this and it hit me the calming serenity I get from the tea I get from this scent. It’s almost as though when I spray this my anxiety levels are capped. a guardian Angel protects me with every spray. I’m not religious but god bless

Seriously love this one. It's a beautiful spicy, woody, floral blend. I don't notice this changing on me as much as some reviewers have mentioned. It's a little fruity in the beginning, and I get more incense toward the end, but other than that, it doesn't change a whole lot. I don't get anything leathery or animalic, but I'm not disappointed because I think it's gorgeous just as it is. It seems really well blended, so that I have a hard time picking out any individual notes. I would agree with previous reviewers who said it has a vintage feel to it. It seems very grand and heady. Beloved leans feminine, but I think a man could easily wear it too. It lasts all day, and lingers on clothing. I've only worn it in the winter. It seems like a perfect winter scent, but I am anxious to try it in the summer after reading comments here about how nice it is in warm weather.

I've just started to rotate my stash for spring/summer. As the Amouages are moved to the back of their closets, I smile as i move my dear friends to hibernate until fall. Beloved needed one last sniff before the temps hit 70 degrees; and she joins Lyric and Ubar in the back, for the time being. A sniff was not sufficient. I can rationalize that it's after 10 PM, and at home I'll wear whatever tickles my fancy at that given time. Beloved is a classic that announces your arrival at whatever setting you choose to wear this gorgeous composition. Something about Beloved reminds me of Hedy Lamarr. An extremely intelligent woman whose brains may well be overlooked because of her breathtaking beauty. Wear this when you want to make someone jealous.... living well is the best revenge. ;-D

The more I wear this the more I fall in love. Its herbal and musky with a very nice herbally soft drydown. I think you could get away wearing it in the heat as long as you went easy on the trigger. It's not a "green" herbal scent and I say that because it's not sharp. It's very smooth from the opening until the end. I get the most beautiful Chamomile note from it in the opening and soft spicey lavender with smooth sandalwood and musk. The leather note I dont pick up on but it's probably there contributing to the smoothness of this. It's so worth the money. I put it on on the morning and can still smell it 10 hrs later, especially on textiles. Beautifully blended, it is a classic style fragrance, very "French" if you know what I mean. Just gorgeous.

This is gorgeous and yes, I can see a similarity with MDCI Palatin. I love the dense, rich combination for the animalic notes with the vibrant herbal ones that are supported and grounded with warm resins and woods. Who doesnt love the smell of chamomile. Soft, herbally yet cheerful. Its no wonder I laid a chamomile lawn in the back garden last year. Its just heaven to walk over on warm days. Its the smell of happiness. Chamomile works a treat with the sun dried, sweet honeyed immortelle. I love how the sage, leather and lavender accent these sweet notes. Its warm and inviting but not shrill unlike other similar cheaper fragrance. Moderate sillage and longevity

I wish I could just get myself a bottle of aromatics elixir when I want to smell like this. It would be much easier than trying to procure a bottle of beloved. But aromatics elixir does not smell like this. I’m not even quite sure how it ended up so voted on. Beloved is simply put, a breathtaking masterpiece. It is so intricate, and soft, and feminine that it truly astonishes me that a perfume can be so perfect and yet discontinued. Despite some sharp notes that can be known to repel a modern woman or strike them with hesitation, Beloved is a rounded softness that feels refined, elegant, and also kind and nurturing. It’s just so beautiful.

Insane to me that I used to be afraid of paying more than $100 for perfume but this was my first big purchase for $170. A couple months later and all the bottles left online we’re going for 1k even 2k..... if I hesitated any longer I wouldn’t have this perfect gem in my home. Edit: I’m sorry to anyone who wanted to own this for a reasonable price bc I swooped in and bought a really cheap bottle on Mercari a few minutes after it was posted. Yall stop buying the ones for $600+ and just wait patiently. Someone will slip up and sell theirs for $200 eventually. U just have to make sure I don’t see it first

In the opening, this is very herbal and aromatic. When the opening dissipates it reminds me of Bal A Versailles (parfume concentration) which I love, but is very hard to find. I hate to compare one fragrance to another, but this one really is so hard to explain on a note for note level. To me it is mostly animalic and balsamic. It's a little sweet and powdery, but not overly so. Of course with all the florals in there, it is somewhat floral, with rose being the most dominant, but it's not a floral composition to my nose. It's beautiful, even sexy, in a very vintage sort of way.

Amouage Beloved W is unlike anything else. It's pure alchemy and magic. I've searched and searched for years, but haven't found anything remotely like it (I wouldn't even put AE in the remotely similar category). Maybe if Magie Noire were warmer and sweeter. And my mom once said it reminded her of the vintage Vivre Molyneux, which I haven't smelled. Even the male version is nothing remotely close. Other far comparisons I can suggest are the original Oscar de la Renta, Coco Noir and Amouage Gold W. But none of them smell as good and magical as Beloved.

Amouage's take on the grand classical style of perfumery; fizzy, exuberant, glorious florals singing hosannas over an aldehyde/chypre base. There's an interesting spiciness here, and the soapy lavender gives it a masculine feel... which again plays into the retro feel of the fragrance. You can get something similar for a lot less money (i.e. Clinique's Aromatics Elixir), but if you want to splurge Beloved has a richness and radiance that is beyond compare. Personally, I think this is gorgeous but I can't justify spending $450 for the pleasure.

I guess it was inspired by Aromatics Elixir, though it is an upgraded formula of the last, seems enriched with castoreum, musc and civet. It is a 3 D version. A noble, smooth, sophisticated, intelligent one. I have to admit, my husband's favorite scent, I have been testing this on vacation and after 8 years of marriage, this was our second honeymoon. 42-44 y. couple !!! So I just empirically have to share with You, Beloved returned us to where we were 8 years ago. Use little amounts each time, do not spray, instead smear the scent on skin.

My signature scent since discovering this beauty. I always get compliments when I wear this and it will be in my collection forever. It is a complex scent, a must try before you buy and it's not your mainstream gourmand scent that can be found everywhere now. This is a beautiful, feminine, classic style perfume. Beloved is hard to describe as there are many layers to this, but overall it has soft florals, sweetness from the immortelle, and a leathery/animalic base. Beloved is very well blended and so beautiful!! I just love this!!

I like this a lot. I like it better than Gold and Dia. Like another perfumista said, it is rosy, spicy and musky. There is no strong smell of incense as in the other Amouages that I have tried and I find this a good thing. Longevity is pretty good and sillage is average. When a cannot smell it anymore, others around me say it is still there and it clings to my clothes and hangs around in my office. Does it deserve a hefty price tag? Probably not. But when my decant is finished, I will sure get another one!

Absolutely lovely floral chypre with a hint of powder. Classic in feel, but with a very slight animalistic edge a bit reminiscent of Bal a Versailles or Maai, that sexy but not in-your-face promise of things to come. For Amouage, it is actually surprisingly soft in it's sillage. Excellent lasting power as well. Unlike what it's pink packaging might suggest, this is not a girly fragrance, but it is a truly feminine scent, warm and inviting. Can you tell I absolutely love it?

I wish that I could wear Beloved. The top notes are so pretty! Unfortunately as it starts to dry down it smells very sour on my skin, like decaying plants and old dirt. I don't know enough yet to understand why/what notes are not agreeing with me. I usually like animalic notes... To the ones fortunate enough to wear this complex fragrance enjoy it for you are blessed. Update 2022: I discovered that the notes that challenged me were chamomile and civet.

This scent is truly magical. A modern masterpiece. In my opinion, while the leather and spices and animalic edge bring it just to the edge of masculine, it is settled nicely into a classic feminine scent by the beautiful bouquet of flowers. In fact, I don't know what could possibly be done to improve on this. It's not a statement fragrance, it's just a perfect signature fragrance for a strong, timeless beauty.

Fantastic, opulent, elegant, multi-faceted, refined smoky-herbal-animalic floral-oriental. Old-school, fearless, womanly. Immortelle immortalized. Accompanying rose, musk, civet. Is this liquid gold? (or is it Amouage Gold)?? One thing I must admit, though; it is also a less butchy, yet far more complex and expensive version of EL Azuree Pure. I believe both are almost perfect.

Beloved smells intensely classic. It's topped with a hint of rose and musk, making it nice and dirty without being a sex bomb like Amouage Fate. In the end, like other Amouage perfums, it dries down to a pretty floral patchouli. It's sophisticated without aloofness. It's an oriental for those who are just discovering orientals.

it's an excellent work by Amouage..expensive and good quality...It’s a Different Fragrance.. it likes amouage epic(w) but softer and less complex and a bit lighter, less powdery and aldehydic than the previous version and more flowery. Sensual..Gorgeous scent, feminine and sophisticated.. it’s Perfect!!

I like at the begging the dry down i love. Throughout the day I get a wiff of the smell it seems different every time. I will get a travel size. Is hard to find and expensive if I find a good price. It not I will get another travel size. It will last for a good amount of time.

Beloved! Beautiful with a spicy kick in the opening. The centerpiece is a sumptuous rose, complimented by the freshness of chamomile and aromatic lavender. Intense and mature, definitely a fragrance that needs some getting used to.

Aromatic leather, if that makes sense and a bit of clove too. Reminds me of 31 Rue Cambon from Chanel, though they are not similar. But they are in the same league, CLASSY. Wear it on a snowy day and feel it warm you up.

Beloved is my beloved perfume. It is a masterpiece of magnificence. It is an incredibly beautiful and complex perfume, so gorgeous. I can't describe it. It's too magnificent. All I can say is it's PERFECT.

A very classy & elegant frag. Last long. Suitable for men too as not too floral. Reminds me of my mom, my teachers when i was a kid. Expensive for a 100ml size.. but money well spent for me.

This smells the way wearing a fur coat feels. One of my all time favourite comfort scents. I feel like purring every time I wear it.

Amouage did over $300m worth of revenue last quarter. Why not be more like Frederic Malle and preserve legacy offerings as much as possible? They could offer them online only and keep them available for existing users and fans. They are also revamping their boutique presence globally. You could stock these in boutiques even if you argue there are too many SKUs a boutique is the size of niche fragrance store and will have less than 10% of the mixed brand store in terms of SKUs. I think Mr Salmon has achieved great success for shareholders and people who were seeking entry level niche fragrances but destroyed fine perfumery at one of the world’s greatest brands. Simply put fine fragrance appreciation requires developing your nose over time and being exposed to the nicer things in life regularly. Mr Salmon has turned the brand into Parfums de Marly 2.0 with Quentin Bisch substituting Hamid Merati Kashani to pump out mass market scents in Amouage bottles. This has effectively monetized a brand built on quality, craftsmanship and execution over twenty years to give us Guidance, Purpose, Decision, Lineage, the terrible boundless, meander and material. I think he needs guidance to find purpose to preserve the lineage before bringing further boundless and material damage to the beloved brand. We are waiting for an end to this interlude into this unfortunate meander into the crimson rocks we long for the journey to return to the days of silver, gold and honour. I must remember Frederic Malle when he commented about the money issue when it kept coming up and I’m paraphrasing here, “Who cares about money! It’s so boring. I wanna make perfume!” Although these words probably will not even land on his deaf ears because why would he read a review of a discontinued fragrance but somehow I hope someone higher up than him will and decide to preserve the legacy. Had all his work been at a start up like Crivelli I certainly would’ve appreciated it but it has destroyed a pillar of modern perfumery.

Originally chosen by mom, masterfully snatched from her, finished not long ago, used for 2.5 years mostly summertime as it is so bright yellow, explosively floral, peachy, resinous touch, no nasty soapy rose here at all. Should you remember the smell of fresh mango, there are commonalities in terms of the texture of the scent, it’s so full and rich it’s almost tactile, so sweet that it’s overloading you to the point of taking it bitter. Chamomile, sure, but it’s just a small part of the story. Amazing how apparently coveted and appreciated by men this is, yet at the time of my discovery I knew totally nothing of this. It was just casually picked up during a trip. It has a very wet feeling on you at first, obviously potent, one of the most beautiful intriguing dry downs, the entire composition stays with you but morphs into a darker, warmer, dryer version of itself. Very fun perfume. I loved to apply to a wet body straight out of shower, to tone down that crazy concentrate. Apply it right and it will shine on you. And I am certain this works experimental in the best way on a man, but I know it can be read as a bit generic on a woman. Go get it boy.

Beloved opens with chamomile, immortelle, rose and other florals. The chamomile and patchouli contribute to the herbal facet, which is not as strong as Aromatics Elixir, and I think Beloved is quite different from AE as it develops. Immortelle and ylang bring much sweetness to as AE transitions to the heart notes, and for a while the floral sweetness has such a strong presence that the initial herbalness is nowhere to be found. The floral sweetness here reminds me of Beautiful by Estee Lauder. But about 40 minutes into heart notes, the patchouli returns and sing a duet with the yellow florals again. As Beloved dries down, it leans more towards warm spicy with some patchouli, but the final drydown is a skin scent of a very clean musk with benzoin and labdanum. It is reminiscent of Clinique's Aromatics in White (a modern flanker of AE) without roses, and a lot smoother due to the lack of pepperiness at the end. Beloved is indeed a modern interpretation of classic florals. As others mentioned, it is reminiscent of classics from the past, but it's not dated. I can see young ladies in their twenties wearing this to a classical concert.

Amouage fragrances are extraordinary. Even the ones that are not to my personal taste are so finely orchestrated that I am filled with awe. Each one of these creations moves gracefully through a variety of transitions taking the wearer (and those close by) on a delightful olfactory journey. To draw a musical analogy, Amouage compositions are constructed like variations on a theme, each with a series of modulations taking the composition through several enchanting explorations of its olfactory harmony. They're brilliant without eccentricity, graceful, refined and sustain their character for hours and hours and hours. Beloved, which I tested today for the first time, is an enchanting rendition of the "theme with variations" style. It's radiant exploration of rose transitions from a gently powdery sandalwood-coloured opening, to a sweeter but not too sugary fruity-rose phase, to an incense/olibanum-tinged salute to an oriental rose style ... and more... Each stage has maintained perfect balance in its elements and consistent moderate sillage throughout the 12 hours since my early morning spritz. So impressive. Utterly exquisite.

Wow. If ever I needed a reminder of how important it is to try a perfume on your skin before you review it, Beloved has reminded me. My brief notes for Beloved from smelling it on a swatch were, “Brutally sweet. Icing sugar, baby powder, nectar.” I’d basically written the fragrance off already. But on my skin, it becomes warm, spicy, and sophisticated. It’s still a very “high-frequency” sweet scent, but those warm/spicy/animalic notes ground it and fill it out nicely. For the first two or three hours it almost has a classic Chanel vibe to it. It does that “manicured and monied feminine power” thing Chanel does so well. Though it’s a little warmer and a tad less manicured than I’d expect from Chanel (whether that’s a good or a bad thing is entirely up to the individual). For me personally, this could probably be improved with slightly less of that penetrating sweetness up front (like chamomile tea with a huge amount of creamed honey stirred into it) and slightly more castoreum, leather, and sage. That said, it’s pretty damn good as-is.

A well executed classic chypre with a more modern approach. Beloved woman opens very chypre-like, with aldheidic notes and a strong rose. Arpege and First came immediately to mind. (Arpege is stronger and more fruity, also more soapy; First is dryer and greener: side by side comparison). It morphs into a more modern patchouli rose combination (the Coromandel phase, its so similar minus the camphor note) but again, not as strong as the Chanel one. Beloved stays quieter, it's well behaved and elegant, the moist patchouli comes and goes. It has a sexy vibe, mostly because of the patchouli and the civet animalic base. Good sillage and excellent longevity? like all chypres, dare i say. All in all, I kind of like it, but i have many more similar fragrances in my wardrobe, this would be just another expensive dupe. Glad i got a sample. Is it worth 260 Euros a bottle? Nope, you can find many cheaper alternatives with the same longevity and sillage.

The thing that interests me most about this perfume is that most of the reviews are trying to liken it to something that they have smelled before. This was the case for me as well. I thought it was similar in style to Sisley Soir de Lune, meets Estée Lauder Knowing. This is a beautiful fragrance, very powerful, rich and sweet. I found it rather linear in style, a strong perfume that is almost chewable. Silage and longevity are astounding as one would expect at these prices, but if you like the fragrance, it's absolutely worth it! I didn't like this as much as Lyric, but I certainly wouldn't turn down a full bottle!

I love the sweet herbal opening of this fragrance! I've been loving chamomile in fragrances lately. The opening is fresh, lovely and interesting. The middle notes are resinous to me. Finally, the base is leathery and animalic. I'm very surprised by this how well balanced this fragrance is. It does smell quite mature on my skin. In fact, perhaps a little too mature for me. I expected to dislike the fragrance based on the presence of the notes of civet, castoreum and ambergris, however they aren't overbearing. I just smell a nice muskiness. Overall, this scent is great but it's just not what I want to smell like. -

BELOVED wants to be a classic old-school fragrance so much! I won't be even slide into details of how this develops, but I will just tell that if you love vintage, classic perfumes, you might want to give BELOVED a sniff. This is a nice cold, soapy musky rose fragrance. BUT I do think that for Amouage BELOVED lacks something in the quality department, it lasted only 6 hours and did not deliver something new, it was very linear despite the 3284595 notes that there should be, I got only roses, musk and a hint of leather. I think you will be better off sticking with few vintages not a bottle of BELOVED.
