Epic Man

I have done multiple tests with Amouage Epic Man, Boadicea The Victorious Green Sapphire, and this fragrance Fragrance World Green Sapphire all worn at the same time on different but comparable parts of my body. I find these to be the three most similar in notes and scent profile. Here’s how they compare Longevity: longest to weakest 1) BTV Green Sapphire 2) Amouage Epic Man (very close) 3) FW Green Sapphire (distant third) Cost: cheapest to most expensive 1) FW Green Sapphire (easily the cheapest and best budget pick) 2) Amouage Epic Man (easily found 120-180 USD. Very fair price) 3) BTV Green Sapphire (you pay for premium and this is as premium as it gets) Performance and Sillage: strongest to weakest 1) BTV Green Sapphire (monstrous) 2) Amouage Epic Man (beastly but slightly below BTV) 3) FW Green Sapphire Detailed review: - Fragrance World: initially has a very strong Sillage and projects the first 20-30 minutes. It is a strong green pine and moss accord early that is beautiful and captivating. Soon thereafter the green notes subside but don’t disappear. The sandalwood and cedar comes to the forefront and there is a beautiful green smooth creamy woods. In the deep dry down (about 5-6 hours) there is a sweet nutty spicy saffron that takes over but it still holds on to the green woods throughout. - Amouage Epic Man: masculine earthy chypre with a dirty spicy earthy woods. Mesmerizing burst of spice with earthy green to open that projects very well. As it goes into the mid the spices most notably the pink pepper and nutmeg subside and the woods from sandalwood and cedar come to surface and take the reigns. There is still strong performance about 3-4 hours in but this is when it goes from projecting to more close to a personal bubble, but not quite skin scent. It is still mossy patchouli earth green with myrrh in the mid, less spice more gentle. In the deep dry down dry down about 7-10 hours the woods becomes extremely creamy but the earthy patchouli turns slightly chocolate and mixes well with the sandalwood. I live for the deep dry down - BTV Green Sapphire: starts very pine and coniferous. Has some incense and smoke that makes a very strong opening. Not repulsive but not what you'd expect based on most reviews. I get a light raspberry that softens the initial pungency. About 10-15 minutes in the coniferous notes settle and the Raspberry balances it out. There is a saffron that begins to emerge that adds what smells to me Almost nutty to make a combination sweet green nutty accord that is drop intoxicating. From about 30 minutes in to about 7 hours these notes dances and project like a delicate symphony each playing their part then returning to below the surface only to rise again later. To a passerby it's as though wealth itself is announcing its arrival. The projection is sneaky on this as I didn't even realize I had a scent but people nearby would frequently stop me to ask what I was wearing. For some reason it was often female who would be drawn by this. The dry down lasts 7-12 hours and sometimes beyond depending how active I am. It is the same balanced symphony with more of the spiced woods and less pine and raspberry. It's pure magic what this perfume does to the nose Conclusion: Each one is worthy to own. If I were to compare the FW Green Sapphire is closer to Amouage Epic Man than BTV. The FW Green Sapphire is the easy blind reach, any occasion, easy and cheap but still well appreciated. The Amouage is more formal but can be used for work settings if sprayed lightly. The BTV is for serious and only formal encounters. I can see it being too much in casual settings and making you seem out of place

Epic Man is indeed epic in its profile. Pink pepper, frankincense, cumin, cardamom, saffron, mace, nutmeg, myrtle, geranium, myrrh, oud, sandalwood, patchouli, leather, cedar, musk, and castoreum. That's a lot and you can tell there is a lot packed into this perfume, though personally I had a hard time distinctly discerning a lot of the individual notes; you'll have to take Amouage's word for several of them. The initial opening is an explosive morass of those Eastern spices and touches of gorgeous frankincense, and they do dry down to a cleanly green and resinous geranium and myrrh heart, whereafter the woods and animalic leather of the base seem to burgeon and grow to outsized proportions within a few hours. The perfume manages to be dry yet sticky, breathable yet thick, clean and also dirty, light and fresh yet very rich and complex. And always very big and very loud. If epic equates to "everything to the max", this perfume is it. The evolution of it is superb, with each dimension revealing themselves one after the other like the progression of a walk deeper and deeper into a lush forest where the West and the East collide. Now for a caveat, and a lesson from Perfume Reviewing 101. This perfume does not work with low skin heat, low environmental temperatures and low humidity. The first time I wore it I thought it was much less an epic of Homeric proportions as it was a haiku. Later on in warmer temperatures, and while I was also being more physically active, I went back to Epic Man and firmly confirmed that it needs heat to really shine. In the wrong conditions it's going to be wan and messy to the point of probably being disappointing, but in the right conditions it will be eardrum-ringing symphonic and it will pull one of the best traits of the best Amouage perfumes by undulating back and forth between the heart and the base - like characters in a play exchanging positions on a stage - before ultimately ceding to the rich, animalic and woody base notes after many, many hours. Epic Man is a He-Man-esque superhero of the outlandish cartoon or comic book variety. It's hard to imagine this colossal character actually existing in our mundane little reality. It's an 80s masculine cologne modernized and blurring the lines between Arabian and French perfume styles and tastes, while cranking the whole up to Defcon 1 nuclear warnings. Epic, indeed.

This scent is the vast and monumental delirium of a feverish man walking across the steppe under the vastness of the night. The opening of this creature is a green, resinous, and relentless punch. It is the empire of frankincense marching hand in hand with pink pepper and cardamom, but drowned in a juniper berry oil that gives it a bitter, medicinal, almost icy aspect. The beginning smells of "ancient medicine," of "an alchemist's herbs." It is a perfume that tells man: "You are small before the immensity of the earth!" In Epic Man there is the solitude of a stone cathedral in winter and the fury of a pine forest that has never seen the sun. When the work seems to be complete, the transition to its dark heart arrives. There, the green vertigo transforms into an animalistic, smoky, and dense oud, but one that does not walk alone. It comes escorted by tanned, dry, heavy leather — like the boots of a soldier who has marched for miles in the mud — and by the pungent warmth of castoreum, that element that evokes the beast, the flesh, the sweat of human effort, and the primitive instinct that we try to hide under layers of civilization. On one side we have the scent of the absolute luxury of a mystical silk road, while on the other we find a sweaty, wild, and brutal smell. It is the paradox of the human being: angel and beast inhabiting the same emerald-green bottle. Then we arrive at the drydown, when the fever subsides and the delirium gives way to melancholy, Epic Man rests on a base of sandalwood, patchouli, and cedar, while the incense never leaves us. It remains until the last breath, like a prayer whispered by a sinner on his deathbed. Epic Man is not worn to please the world or for a chance encounter. This perfume is worn when one wants to carry one's own cross with dignity. It is opulent, it is tragic, it is green like the bile of envy and golden like the altars of the saints. It is an epic of dignity and power. Let whoever dares to wear such arrogance bear the weight of their own grandeur!

I’m reviewing this fragrance from the perspective of the average person. While detailed scent breakdowns can be useful, not everyone relates to them. I’m more focused on how the fragrance comes across in real life, especially to someone experiencing it without any context. To help with that, I’ve included the opinion of a female friend. This is a subjective, experience-based review. Amouage Epic Man really drives home the idea that you get what you pay for. It’s a premium price, but the quality and impact back it up straight away. From the first spray, it feels rich and refined. There’s warmth and spice, but it stays clean and easy to wear. You get wood and leather at the core, but it doesn’t feel heavy or grounded, this is something bigger, more elevated. It gives off a sense of confidence and quiet wealth. There’s a bit of bite from the pepper early on, but it’s smoothed out nicely by the myrtle, cardamom, and caraway. The key thing is that it never feels over the top. It’s confident without being showy. Not a stiff suit and tie, more like a good tan, a nice watch, and all the time in the world. Calm, controlled, but hard to ignore. My friend liked it immediately, no hesitation. She said it smelled masculine and, in her words, “the kind of scent that gives a girl sparkles.” Performance is on another level compared to anything I’ve tried. It lasted over four hours on my skin in hot, windy, high-UV conditions and still held strong. The sillage is where it really stands out. It fills a space without trying and leaves a serious trail. My friend mentioned that even 15-20 minutes after I’d left, she could still clearly smell it in the corridor where we met, and even in a nearby staircase through a set of double doors I’d walked through to leave. Amouage Epic Man has quickly become my go-to for autumn and winter, and honestly, it could work year-round.

I’m one of the guilty folks who spoke too soon about this having moderate longevity and sillage. 8-9 months ago, that was the case. I’d put it back in its box, and stored it at the back of my wardrobe where it’s cool and dark. The Mrs found it this morning and went on a bit of a bender about how many frags are around the house. Anyway, back to the important stuff. This scent needs time to rest. I sprayed a couple of dots on the front of my wrist (near the top of my hand) 2 hours ago and this thing is kicking like a mule. Decent projection. Much stronger than I remembered it during last winter. All of that Amouage goodness wrapping me in its glorious scent bubble. I’ll be back to edit again in a few hours, but this is a lot more powerful today. Looking forward to throwing this back on in a couple of months. Edit: 4.5 hours in - Not as strong, but still getting the odd decent wafts. I’ve also been cleaning the house and I’ve washed my hands a few times. 7.5 hours - Almost a skin scent now, but it’s still evident. Not as many wafts now, but still there. 8.5 hours - After a shower, I could still pick this up faintly. A couple of spritz on clothing would really carry this. Let it rest. Come back to it. Thank me later. 👌🏻 Additional edit: Applied 2 full sprays to my left arm before bed last night. Easily filled half the room. Woke up this morning (c9 hours later) and I could still smell it projecting. I wonder if some people have gone nose blind to this or I’m lucky that I’ve a good 50ml bottle.

Epic Man perfectly fits the Idea I have about Amouage. It's opulent and quite loud but at the same time it's straordinarely crafted to never cross the edge of vulgarity. The opening is simply fantastic with tones of spices(expecially pink pepper) and a very sharp citrus surrounded by nutmeg (I totally get it), IMO is one of the best male fragrance opening in the past 5 years or so. It brings to my mind of the same feelings I had the first time I smelled Azzaro Pour Homme, I totally got hooked. Although both Epic Man and Azarro are part of the same family (spicy fougère) they really differ in the drydown where the first one pushes on the accelerator by introducing the Amouage hallmarks: Frankincense and Oudh. At this point everything start to get drier and darker for hours as Epic Man is quite a potent scent leaden by smoky woods and a slightly medicinal vibe that's characteristic of many western ouds. This is definitely one of my favourites from Amouage. One more consideration: If I have to be honest the point with Amouage is still the same. They make outstanding fragrances but most of the time they're kinda "distant" from reality. The point is "where / when to wear them?" I do really appreciate fragrances like Ciel or Lyric but don't feel comfortable in wearing them and even if I personally feel comfortable with Epic Man it's still no everydays fragrance at all. On a "once in a while" rotational roster even if a totally love it. Rating: 8.5/10

I have collected a few from the house of Amouage now; Lyric, Interlude, Jubilation and Epic. I find Epic to be by far the best and perhaps for those so inclined to rank, i would go Epic, Lyric, Interlude, Jubilation. I know i know... but Jubilation i find just to be a toned down smoother version of Epic with a dash of fruity notes thrown in. Compared to Epic, though, Jubilation lacks character and the performance leaves a lot to be desired. Epic is bold, strong, classy and relentless in those characteristics, so much so that the incense, pink pepper and oud carry a beautiful harmony all throughout the 12+hours of this fragrance. So good is the performance, that i will put this on for work around 6am, three sprays and everyone knows you're around, by 7pm it's practically skin scent having gone through an entire day and a sweat at the gym. After showering you can still smell EPIC on my hand some 14-16 hours post initial spray. It's incredible! It is a scent for serious aficionados. There's nothing fruity or playful here so this isn't one for the club or compliment seekers. On that matter though, iv'e had many people compliment me wearing this however, i believe this is as a result of the unique and opulent nature of the scent. This is THE scent i want people to associate me with and one i will keep in my collection always. Next i will be looking for Memoir, Sunshine and Dia.

Excellent. Four wears now on a sample. Opening is sharp, green and a tad soapy. It reminds me of a certain craft glue product from my childhood called 'Perkins Paste' - so desirable to some of the kids in my 1980's primary school they used to love smelling it... and eating it! I'm not a huge fan of the immediate opening, but it's ok. After 10-15 mins it starts to dry down on my skin. Just wonderful, I find the spicy accords shout the loudest to start then develops into a leathery, earthy and balsamic scent, driven more than I expected by a slightly animalic base. For those of you that have tried (and didn't like) Amouage Opus XIII Silver Oud, don't worry, it's NOT that level of animalic. This is much more subdued and elegant. In the latter stages it does tend more dark and shadowy, some may say glum. That's why I think I like it, and is an endearing quality to me. I love it and full-bottle worthy for me. Don't blind-buy it but definitely sample it as it won't resonate with everyone. As an aside, for those that have performance issues with some fragrances (noting some comments in earlier posts) then simply hydrate your skin a few minutes before applying with a non-oil based, fragrance-free, Hyaluronic acid moisturiser like CeraVe. Boosts performance on my skin by up to 50%.

I absolutely love this one. Both the opening and dry down are amazing, it will make you smell like an alpha male even if you're the most feminine guy on the planet. It's spicy, fresh, woody and just the right amount of sweetness. I'm also picking up some citrusy notes, not sure if it's one of the ingredients or just reaction with my skin. I have a newer bottle made in Oman and I would say the performance is just OK. It projects quite well for first 2-3 hours as I can smell it projecting off my skin just sitting at my desk. After 3 hours up to 6-7 hours I can still catch some whiffs while moving around. Later in the day it becomes harder and harder to pick up in the air. Lasts a bit longer on the clothes. In my opinion it's an all year round scent and office safe, I would expect it will perform much better during spring and summer when it's warmer. It's perfect for guys 30 and up but maybe some younger men can also pull it off. I got my bottle at a pretty good price (160eur for 100ml) so I'm not going to despair about the performance but I would be disappointed if I got it for full retail price. It's such a beautiful fragrance I wish I could smell it all day long after spraying just in the morning.

This is a beautiful scent, with a piquant, spicy, citrusy opening that slowly morphs into a resinous middle, then again into a leathery, woodsy base. There are purported animalic notes here, but they're extremely subtle and emerge very late in the drydown. Nevertheless, speaking of this strictly as a scent profile, Epic Man is easily a 9/10, signature worthy and blind buy safe. So, what's the catch? Anemic performance--a virtual skin scent with intimate projection for an hour or so; no appreciable sillage. This is weak sauce by any perfumer's standard, which for an Amouage is utterly inexcusable. (Note: Epic's got a fairly Epic dose of Iso E super in it; so this is potentially attributable to nose-blindness on my part; but my coworkers don't seem to be fazed when I perform a compensatory overspray and strut around gauging the responses.) New score after factoring in this piss-poor performance: 6/10. If some hypothetical reformulation were to emphasize the animalics and boost the performance, then it would immediately become my signature scent. I know better than to hope for such things, but I'll keep a watchful eye out because this one is a few key tweaks away from GOAT status.

Another amazing fragrance from the house of Amouage, they don’t seem to miss. Honestly, due to its consistency I would say Amouage may be my favorite niche house. Amouage Epic has a very strong pepper and spicy start. Overtime the leather and Oud really do pop out. I’m not really sure what that castoreum note is, not sure why it’s an animal. I don’t really smell anything animalic in this fragrance. When I smell epic I get a strong spice scent alongside some smokiness, with a base of leather and oud. The longevity lasts wayy above 12 hours, with a strong projection which can be smelt from meters away. It’s a perfect wear for the winter and night time. It can be used at work and office settings. However, it can also be utilized for going out and can be used in somewhat casual settings too. The scent itself is very unique and just great to smell. It does however come at a high price point. It’s definitely not a safe blind buy so I do recommend to check this one out. Scent: 9 Longevity: 10 Projection: 9 Value: 7 Overall: 9

Oriental Journey (Randa Hammami, 2009) Scentrack: Louis Armstrong - We Have All The Time In The World Journey with the Asia Oriental Express started in Bangkok. The luxurious composition cruised through Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, visiting a several holy places. Grizzled Mr. M., obviously accustomed to luxury, sit frivolously in the leather chair of observation car at the end of the composition. While drinking Bombay Sapphire gin tonic, he thoughtfully watched the unreal landscape passing by. Beneath the white linen shirt and dark blue blazer Epic evaporated. Epic, the liquid of Asian wealth hidden in a jade green bottle. Regal oud and incense, liven up by a squeezed saffron and prickly pepper perfectly matched the breathtaking landscape. Leather and animalic notes perfidiously reminded nothing is what it seems like. The moment of introspection was interrupted by the waiter's question: "Sir, a souffle maybe?" Mr. M. just coolly answered: "If I have to..." Scentimentalwords

When wearing this I think of the forest, day spas, saunas, relaxation retreats. Opens up very aromatic and spicy. Herbal and green with a good amount of woods in the base. Not too much leather or oud. I find this very meditative and easy to wear although it is very strong and herbal/spicy the first hour. It dries down to a beautiful rainforest like soapy smell which i prefer over the opening and this lasts through the life of the fragrance. Very masculine and versatile. I think this could be pulled off in an office setting, casually or more formal occasions. Not sure about summer as I haven’t worn this in high heat. There isn’t really a fragrance I can think of that smells like this or evolves like this. But if you like things like Hacivat, oud wood or Santal 33 it may be worth sampling this one. Lasts and projects for 8+ hrs. My batch is a mid 2025 batch. Top 5 Amouage for me and one of the Chong era greats imo. 9/10

Epic Man is a fragrance that fully lives up to its name: powerful, commanding, and built to endure. Do not be misled by the extensive note breakdown often listed for Epic Man. This is not a perfume where you smell a linear collage of ingredients. Instead, it transcends its components, becoming something entirely new: a singular olfactory identity, seamlessly blended into an aura that is unmistakably its own. If Epic Man were a film, it would be Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven.

Epic is a masterfully orchestrated composition. Oriental-woody, one of those that captivate instantly. Incensed, spicy and, of course, deeply woody, with exceptional quality, in my opinion. A perfume like the ones I truly adore! It opens with a green smell, wrapped in a spicy and fresh incense. Little by little, the spices decrease in intensity, enhancing the incense note, which is accompanied by the presence of myrrh. The result is a resinous balm, slightly dry and smoky, with a woody accent of great elegance and exoticism. These woody accords gain strength and prominence, always wrapped in incense and leather accords, paying homage to the great oriental opulence. Simply beautiful. A true masterpiece that deserves a prominent place in the collection of any lover of the art of perfumery. A perfume that will make you feel elegant and distinguished on any occasion.

Very high quality fragrance, but that doesn’t mean anything if it doesn’t smell so great. The opening is fantastic! Super spicy, oriental, and just screams manly! The dry down after a few hours on the other hand is quite interesting. It smells weird almost urine like. Such a shame because the opening is awesome, just wish it stayed that way. I really wanted to like this one because the opening is just so good. Opening 9/10. Dry down 5/10. Overall I’d say 6.8/10 written 5/09/24 UPDATE as of 6/08/24 I take back what I said. I love this stuff. I just kept reaching for my sample bottle and using it until I ran out. The more I wore it, the more I started to love it and appreciate it. So much so that I bought a full size bottle! The dry down is great to me now and that opening is still magnificent! This stuff is great! 10/10

I love this one. However, it is not one of the easier Amouage fragrances to pull off. I have 10 Amouage fragrances, including some really potent ones like Interlude Black Iris, and Royal Tobacco, which I find both to be an easier wear. This is a modern take on a mix of Polo Green, and YSL Kouros, albeit less in your face than both. This is for dressed up occasions, very opulent, bold, and masculine. I wore this to a client board meeting with a light blue suit, light brown shoes and and a very light green shirt, and the color of this fragrance almost fit right in during that roof top dinner in late summer. Not a flirty fragrance, it's business. One thing about this one, don't get too close when you want to sniff it. This is much much better in the air, with a lovely resinous cloud that leaves a lot to the imagination.

Oh man.. i could write love letters to Amouage and Mrs. Hammami for this creation (beware of bias), so i choose to keep it as short as possible. Brightness in the depths of darkness. How they managed to blend and balance these notes to create this intriguing and exquisite feel of the scent is incredible and makes this scent a true work of art. Dark, smoky, green masculinity at its finest. Although many will find it harsh or dislike it, this will forever be one of my favourite smells of all time. The quality of the balsamic incense profile is unlike anything else i've come across. A random latin chick at the bar where i work as a bouncer told me that i smell like her grandmother's house (and she loved it). The bottle is absolutely gorgeous. The name suits the scent perfectly. An Epic masterpiece. 11/10.

I tried this in 2017 and did not like it and truth be told I didn't pay much attention at that time. Fast forward tp 2023 and my friend gives me a decant of this and I just fall in love. It's so clean which is weird when u look at the notes but it is an amazing bled. So I asked my friend is it older bittle or new one with name on the side or front so he said it's on the front and I go and buy new 2024 batch, new pacage and all and ut smells amazig but it performs BAD 1h projection and 3h longevity. So I don't k ow about is it fresh batch and needs to maturate or is it watered down... u tell me. Anyway I wish I bought thid one in 2017 now I only hope the performance gets better with age because there is no sense with such heavy notes this to smell so weak.
