Figment Man

Today I'm reviewing Figment by Amouage. This is another fragrance from the house that really never gets talked about. However, I did stumble upon one video that mentioned it, wherein the reviewer stated it was the most realistic green fragrance he'd ever experienced. That was enough to catch my attention and make me want to try it for myself. Let's get into it and see what it's about; Scent: The opening is earthy, floral, and animalic. The primary notes I get are earthy notes, geranium, animal notes, and lemon. The strongest of the notes are the earthy notes and geranium. Right off the first spray, the earthy notes hit like a freight train. Y'all, when I tell you this is the earthiest earth notes I've ever smelled, I can't emphasize it enough. It smells like dirt, freshly tilled soil, just earth; but in the best possible way. This is far and away the most photo-realistic earth note I have ever encountered, and will probably ever encounter to be honest. Sharing the stage with the earthy notes is the geranium note, giving the opening a distinctly rosy and floral tone. The earthy notes and geranium meld together to create the most beautiful and life-like representation of a flower garden I have ever experienced. It actually reminds me a bit of the carnation and patchouli from Gucci Envy; same vibe but noticeably more realistic and expensive in Figment. Up next is the animal notes and lemon. The animal notes manifest as a subtle and sensual warmth, far below the geranium and earthy notes but noticeable enough to add depth. Lastly, the lemon adds a sharp citrusy kick on the backend to provide some fresh contrast. The dry down is still earthy, floral, and animalic. The primary note I get are earthy notes, geranium, animal notes, and sandalwood. The strongest of the notes are the still earthy notes and geranium. The earthy notes are still very much the star of the show in the dry down with the same fresh soil accord. Similarly with the geranium, with the same floral and rosy note. That same flower garden vibe from the opening is still very present in the dry down. This is followed by the animal notes and sandalwood. The animal notes still have the same warm and sensual tone, but with just a touch of added funk to it to really drive the animalic facet home. Lastly, the sandalwood lingers in the background for a subtle and powdery woody touch. Performance: Projection in the first hour is very strong and can fill a room. Sillage matches that intensity with a dense scent trail. After a few hours the projection and sillage were a little bit lighter, but still very strong in both regards. At the 7 hour mark the projection was under arms length and the scent trail was only lightly noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent shortly thereafter. When to wear: Figment is a fragrance that is versatile, in theory, to be worn any season and any occasion. I personally can't see myself wearing this for anything other than my own enjoyment as I don't really want to smell like literal dirt to other people, but I can see how this could possibly be dressed up and worn formally or dressed down and worn casually. Blind buy: Figment is definitely not a safe blind buy. Most people can't really fathom the idea of smelling like dirt and flowers. If you're curious, grab a sample first. Final verdict: So I'm not really sure what that reviewer was talking about when he said it's a green fragrance. It's not, at all. Maybe he meant to say earthy, I'm not sure. If he had, I would agree that this is probably one of the most photo-realistic and accurate earthy fragrances you can possibly buy. I think it's utterly amazing how close this fragrance gets to the aroma of a freshly tilled flower garden, and it speaks to the artistry that perfumery can be. When it comes to performance, Figment performs admirably with strong projection and scent trails for the first few hours, and lasting about 7-8 before fading away. In terms of versatility, this is technically a very versatile fragrance that could be worn anytime and for any occasion, but only for the brave wanting to make a statement. Mass-appealing is not an adjective I would use to describe this fragrance. It's artistic, it pushes the boundaries of what perfume is, and so by extension it is not for everyone. In conclusion, I think Figment is magnificent and I do want a full bottle at some point. If for no other reason that to just be able to experience it for myself every once in a while. I'd probably never wear it out though. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 7/10 Sillage: 8/10

Wow , first off I absolutely love this fragrance, this is something special. I was going to hold off on writing a review but I just was walking down the street, it's hot and humid, I passed an empty trash barrel and got a whiff of figment man... Utterly beautiful. So this does not smell like trash, I suppose it could, if you imagine that when wearing it. This is a very complex unique fragrance that like someone else mentioned almost simulates an environment. A wet, damp, climate with woods perhaps in the rain. I can also imagine a smell of an environment perhaps after it rains, the air carries different scents your way as you walk through it. It is an airy fragrance in my opinion so far from the times I've worn it. You get whiffs of it's constantly changing notes and it definitely hovers around. Simply what I get here is a beautiful opening with a strong lemon, but not like any other lemon I've smelled in a fragrance before, perhaps the combination with the geranium is what I smell, perhaps also the animal note is right underneath giving it a tartness that some people refer to as "pissy", it's very nice and not unappealing in my opinion. This stays throughout most of the duration of the fragrance although it's very prominent in the first hour. The earthy notes come out as it drys down, followed by the sandalwood and guaiac? I don't exactly get "dirt", but it has a damp soil, wet, pungent feel to it. Someone mentioned moss growing on trees, I can picture that at times during wearing this. Then when the wood notes kick in as it dries down It's something spectacular. It sort of warms up a bit, perhaps the labdanum? I'm not quite sure, I'll have to edit again with more insight on my experience with the dry down as it's fresh on my nose. One thing I did find with this fragrance is if you smell it up close like on the back of your hand, at almost anytime during the duration of the scent you can smell the beautiful wood notes. But they only start coming out into the air in bursts later in the dry down. Overall this is such an amazing fragrance, if you're reading through the reviews because your curious about this one, then it's definitely worth sampling despite anything anyone wrote that's negative. If you like Amouage fragrances this has Amouage quality and uniqueness. I blind bought this, because I was intrigued, and I feel like I can trust what I'm going to get from Amouage is nothing short of quality. It may not be something you would want to wear, or might have a hard time finding a place to wear this, but I personally like this one so much I will wear it wherever and not feel self conscious about what other people might think about it. If you decide to sample this even if it's not for you, I think you won't be able to deny the quality of this fragrance and will still be able to appreciate it's uniqueness. This in my opinion is a masterpiece of perfumery.

In the first 30 minutes I thought it should've been called "Glorious Shades of Bergamot" or something akin to that. There was an olfactory equivalent of a bergamot kaleidoscope going on in front of my nose: green, bitter, sour, juicy, fruity, sweet, oily, zesty. Once the kaleidoscope stops shuffling around after quite a bit of time, you notice there is definitely a bergamot (or just simply a bitter lemon) accord weaving its way into the heart, but the green fruity sourness reveals itself to be a beautiful geranium note accented by lemon that will carry on through most of the perfume's life. Then an earthquake rocks the ground beneath your feet to turnover animalics, foliage, woods, and earth - sending them sky high. To me, this is one of the best petrichor perfumes I have ever smelled. For many that will be a misclassification, and absurd, because for many (most?) the animalics are dominant by far. To my nose they are quite loud, but never so much as to drown out any aspects of the woods or vetiver. Instead, they are the backbone to this dimension of "rot" or "decay", like a compost heap. Helping this facet along is the salty, swampy, fetid, and green aromatics of vetiver. Vetiver seems to be the star in that it is the glue holding the animalics, the greens and citrus, and the woods together - bridging the camphoraceous and sour notes to the funky decay of animalics to the wet tree bark woods and soil notes. While some complain about too much of a urine (sour), animalic (fecal), or moldy (decay) profile, to me it is actually quite fresh and invigorating - like a drenching warm summer rain while standing in a lush green forest (with maybe one foot accidentally in animal dung). You might be asking yourself "why the hell would anyone want to smell like this?" Good question. My description doesn't sell the perfume very well but, honestly, it smells fantastic and I cannot think of anything else like it. But, obviously at this point, you know it is not a safe perfume. Trying before buying would be wise. Additionally, its performance is such that you will be stuck with it for a full day and you will definitely get noticed - for better or for worse. I have two bottles because I do not ever want to be without it. An earthquake overturning everything in a lush green forest while being dumped on by a warm summer acid rain shower and animal dung on your shoe.... Yep, I'm going to go with that. Figment Man is brilliant.

After reading so many mix opinions I went ahead and bought it at a great price because someone who bought it did not wear it at all. About this fragrance, this is one of those fragrance when Amouage use to make actual niche fragrances, this fragrance is what niche fragrance is all about, this is a collectors item when you want a perfume for your own pleasure and not because you want to others to smell. This perfume is why I fell in love with niche perfumery, even though its discontinued its well worth getting it. Now talking about the fragrance: This fragrance starts off with a similar animalic note slightly similar to Musiqa oud by nishane, but then after 15 - 20 mins it changes to the vetiver rooty smell. After a few hours like 4 - 6 hours the beautiful smell of earth and some slight hints of sweet flowery notes come up which so beautiful, when I applied it I could not stop smelling my arm again and again. This perfume is not everyone's cup of tea, its very different than the mass appealing fragrances that a lot of these niche fragrance houses make these days and they dont challenge themselves anymore because they can cash in that designer market customers where people just buy it because it smells safe etc. When I wore this on my jumper, the entire room was smelling it for days even though I was not able to detect it but my wife was able to smell it and complained about it days after, so that is a good sign that its longevity is awesome. I absolutely love this smell but my wife who is a clean freak hates it and complains that it smells like mould which I totally disagree, I believe that this is a fragrance that is super niche and you really have to enjoy fragrances that is super different. This fragrance gives me that calming effect each time I wear it, there is something zen about this fragrance and I truly cherish it. However, should you go out and buy it ? NO ! sample it first, apply it on your skin & see how it works on you and if you really like the different stages of the perfume because the opening is very different to dry down. TLDR: - Super complex - All year round - Great longevity - Great performance - Super Ultra Niche - Not for everyone - Similar to Gilli mitti attar - Not blind by worthy

After reading all the review, i decided to try the 2ml vial. To summarised it, this perfume has 2 face. On a cold day it smelled like a mossy and earthy yet sweet peat with a little tinge of organic fertilizer from decayed matter. On a hot humid day it smelled like sweet, musky, soapy, yet very very VERY fecal (the equivalent of changing your nephew's diaper and cleaning them with a baby soap). It's a unisex fragrance with a little bit of masculine side. Longevity wise its very good, i used it at night before going to sleep. at the morning i still smell it on my arm, and its still going strong. and it lingers spectacularly. Its a linear fragrance and at the same time a beautiful piece of art, a signature worthy of a fragrance. EDIT : After getting acquinted for a bit with the 2ml vial, i decided to pull the trigger. It takes sometime to get used to, after several usage at home and outdoor. I've come to fruition that i like it, A lot. After getting used to the opening, basically a fresh citrusy and earthy notes (mossy forest and wet soil) that stays for 1 - 2 hour. then transitioning to that mossy wet soil + animalic compost + something sweet that are in the first time that i tried, a bit hard to love. This combination of sweet but fecal dirt stays for 6 to 7 hour. then transitioning to creamy woody smell from guaiac and sandalwood combination with a bit of the earth notes still lingering, stays until the more or less to the 12th hour of usage. The projection sits pretty close to skin and this perfume projects the guaiac and sandalwood (a bit smoky, some people likened it to general aromatic candle/incense) to the people around me. For me, Figment man lingers in front of your nose prompting you of imagining nature and depending on your mood, it will remind you a bit of funeral. it has a goth and at the same time meditative quality to it. I perceives Figment Man, as a concept or an idea that are succesfuly achieved as a scent. And in addition, the presentation speaks the same. A gothic forest scent that are slightly uncanny yet at the same time, pleasant.

Firstly. In no way whatsoever does Figment smell like Oud Palao! Really! Get samples if you don’t believe me!! Anyway, this is my first Amouage and I admit that the £115 Black Friday price tag from AllBeautyUK was an influencing factor. Needless to say, stunning packaging! Well, I opened and sprayed. I got the damp soil note straight away. I wanted something off the radar and it is, but boy, is this challenging and not really in a good way! For me, armed with positive opinions from the YouTube Frag Comm, I thought this was a safe blind buy. However, the experience is more like going into a run-down area in wet, damp weather, in the dark and coming across an alley way behind a row of virtually derelict houses. As one strolls down the very dimly lit passage, garbage and broken glass is strewn everywhere. A broken child’s bike and numerous piles of sodden clothing and discarded carpet line the edges of the walk way and seem to have absorbed the rank stench of urine and garbage. Imagine if you tripped over, face first in this place, what sort of odour would permeate your nostrils. Well, there you go. Welcome to Figment! My wife came home in the evening and didn’t comment for an hour, but as she was cooking tea (bearing in mind the olfactory overload from cooking garlic, ginger etc, she asked if I was wearing something. She said that she thought that when she arrived, something smelled as if it was rotting in the corner and that she wondered if one of our dogs had had an accident on the carpet! I would advise that although I’m pretty adventurous and love Montale Black Aoud and loads of other similarly powerful stuff, this migrates so far from my idea of a scent, that I cannot see the point. I blind buy and sometimes I like, sometimes it’s not to my taste, but that’s fine. This is “out of scope” as a wearable scent!

I agree with Maddyrain's earlier review. If niche perfumes are the place where the most distinctive and adventurous fragrances are to be found, then Figment Man is as niche as you'll find. I love it. This is a complex fragrance. My wife calls it "depression in a bottle" but I think that assessment is unfair. Figment Man is both melancholy, dark and sepulchral and uplifting, green and citric. As soon as you spray it, there is earth, dark rich and, at times bordering on moldy, and there's bright sunny lemon and minty green geranium. The fragrance is beautiful and needs to be worn repeatedly for extended periods to be fully understood and appreciated. However, get a sample or a decant before you commit to a bottle. Many, perhaps even most, folks will not enjoy this scent even if they appreciate the craft it displays. Others may well like it, but not want to smell like Figment Man. Also, note that this scent skews darker as it progresses--the earthy smell intensifies and some labdanum driven smoke and dry medicinal guaiac wood, used here as a fixative, mark the deep dry down. This scent projects strongly for hours and lasts past the 12 hour mark on my skin. I reach for Figment Man mostly in early spring and throughout fall and I have given up trying to find situationally appropriate occasions on which to wear it. These days, I just like to smell this fragrance. I wear it in any situation, appropriateness be damned. It is that good. The presentation is typical of Amouage, that is, excellent. Atomizers are great. Even the box is beautiful, although I'm not sure it's floral graphic really matches this scent. Because this scent is polarizing, you can find it deeply discounted if you look around. Get your nose on this fragrance at least once it you can. It is remarkable.

Excellent! I don't see how the notes called out in the little pictogram above relate to this fragrance, but it doesn't matter. It has a lovely set of first notes, perhaps geranium, lemon, pink pepper, but I would agree with botanical, lovely. Then, it dries down into something much more floral: rich, creamy, leathery (does that count as animalic?), and at the same tlme light. I pick up a tiny hint of rose and something minty, could possibly be the barest patchpouli. At this point, if I put my nose on my skin, the fragrance has some sharp woody note that is a turn off for me. But away from my skin--amazing. I spritzed a sample, and went out for errands. I had the car defroster on, which blew the fragrance around my car. A faint whiff smelled like one gorgeous thing, but when it was stronger, it was something else. I would go into the post office, come out, open my car, and the faint smell would waft out of my car and nearly make me swoon, so lovely. I would start the car, drive around, and the stronger smell would envelope me--gorgeous. One of the more exciting and interesting scents I have ever tried. This feedback is based on a sample, and I wonder if decanting may have an impact on what I received. EDIT: I have found that this fragrance is far more enjoyable if sprayed on my clothing. The collection of warm and sparkling notes hang together much, much longer. So, your body chemistry will matter, which I didn't really believe until trying this perfume.

I am a child of temperate rainforest. It is where I feel most at home...there among the embrace of monumental trees and spongy beds of moss, foggy winters followed by late spring berries, the sweet spiciness of short bone dry summers when plant sugars and oils condense and sublimate in the heat to adorn the air with a woody richness. Then the first gentle sprinkle in a season announces the end of summer's extravagance and the impending arrival of autumn. As those quenching drops fall upon the forest floor and mingle with the thirsty soil, an explosion of petrichor bursts forth to create for only a moment the heavenly perfume that a forest fae like me will only experience a few times in their short life upon this beautiful world. This is the scene, the moment, that Amouage's Figment memorializes. Magic in a bottle. Tragically, Amouage has decided to discontinue Figment Man and depart from their niche house roots to become yet another boring multinational department store chemical dealer. Bless Figment's makers, and curse the empty suit locking Amouage's creative heritage away in a crypt. I do hope someone somewhere holds the Figment Man recipe safe...for humanity's sake. An incredible (and now rare) work of art. If it is petrichor you seek, Figment Man is where you will find it. Earthy and grounded yet heady (such contradictions), and exceedingly sexy. A spiritual experience for your inner Ewok.

So let me start by saying that, at least for me, this fragrance is addictive. I usually start my day by sniffing some essential oils and samples I have, including this one. Recently I said that I will make a break, at least one day from smelling any perfume but this one just comes in my mind and make me smell it again and again. I understand that it`s not the easiest fragrance to sniff, or to wear it, but it`s something really unique, for the lovers of strange fragrances, which I`m a big fan of. I also have a sample from Sorcinelli - "But not today" and they are a bit similar, but only 10% and I have to say that Figment take me more on a scenery than the other one. It`s really about the feeling on this kind of fragrances and niche in general. And man, Figment is the one that reminds me of a walk in a damp forest, in spring and most in autumn, where all is wet, rainy, with diyng leaves all over and a lot of mosses everywhere you look, which I simply love. For those who look for an olfactory journey and for the lovers of walking in forests, just by yourself, to admire the beauty of this part of nature, Figment is a must. This and Myths do the job very well. even if it`s a subjective theme, but from my perspective, this is what niche have to deliver, to play with you oflactory memory and transcend you to a canvas you have felt.

This one is very difficult. Amouage Figment was not made to please the masses; it was invented as an olfactory experience. Figment is an extremely animalic scent, right from the start, you're blasted with a mix of juicy lemon that feels like it has been brought to you by a wet and dirty animal that just left the forest. Gerranium mellows the blend to make it a bit easier on your nose, as the animalic note is VERY pungent and won't leave you until the scent fades from your skin. After it settlesdown the lemon goes away and this dirty and wet animal leads you into the.. cowshed! If you ever been to the countryside and had a chance to smell the cowsehd it is EXACTLY like that. Some people will tell you it stinks but to me the cowshed smell is a guilty pleasure in the same way as is gasoline to some people. It is strange, it is pungent and almost intrusive but you keep sniffing and sniffing despite the smell being super strange. Like I mentioned in the beginning of this review. This fragrance is more of an olfactory experience; it is hard to wear and might not appeal the public but any trained nose will appreciate it as it's super unique and nostalgic to those who used to visit the countryside.

Found myself transported to the golden age of Amouage, a time when every release felt like a handcrafted piece of olfactory art. No marketing gimmicks. No shortcuts. Just pure, unapologetic creativity. That era is sorely missed. Scent of the Day: Figment Man a scent I wore after a while, and today it unfolded like a forgotten painting rediscovered. From the very first spray, it whispered stories of damp earth, forest peat, mineral-rich soil, and a cool ocean breeze brushing against wild ferns. It’s not an easy scent. It doesn’t aim to please. Instead, it challenges then rewards. This is art in a bottle, a poetic interpretation of nature’s raw, untouched beauty. A masterpiece in the realm of petrichor-based compositions — bold, enigmatic, and deeply refined. There's a sophisticated aura, almost meditative, that lingers in its wake. And the performance? Monstrous. Hours later, it still clings to the skin, evolving gracefully. Straight a 10/10 for me. This is what happens when perfume becomes emotion, and art finds its way into a bottle.

Interesting scent. Would never wear this out to impress or out in general. This is something I like and enjoy to wear at home. Couldn’t pass it up for the price o paid. Opens up animalic, dark, green and earthy. I actually like it a lot, my girlfriend does too, mind you we both like Ouds and super masculine scents on me. This is great, until it dries down to plain rich, wet moist dirt. The dry down I don’t enjoy for wearing out at all. At the same time, I love the smell of wet, earthy moist dirt. I go fishing a lot and it’s the same exact smell as when I’m stomping around at sunrise, in soaked, wet and muddy Florida summer canals and ponds. I love being out in nature, therefore I love this smell. Dry down is the exact replication of a wet, saturated, rich mossy soil. I love nature and being outside, hence my appreciation. At the same time, I know 95%+ of people would def not appreciate this scent. A masterpiece for what it is. Scent as art, and depiction of a moment/ setting as opposed to something mass appealing. Def not s blind buy unless you know what you’re getting yourself in to.

I can see why people don’t dig this. This is a very dirty, very intense scent. I personally don’t pick up much in the way of animalic tones (I can’t tell if I should be alarmed by that), but the earthy tones do not disappoint, especially when they’re paired with the pepper and lemon. It really sharpens the earthy notes, helping them cut through the air and just scream “HERE I AM”! This perfume is definitely challenging, especially if you’re coming from more crowd pleasing scents, so don’t pick it up thinking this will be an office friendly fragrance. It isn’t; be kind and don’t do that to your coworkers. Personally, I love this scent. It’s certainly a little off putting, especially if you put your nose directly up to it, but if you allow it to sit in the air with you, it is like being in a beautiful, damp, and slightly depressing forest. Unfortunately, this thing is discontinued, so if you’re at all interested in what I or other commenters have described, I strongly recommended picking up a bottle. You might regret it, but you might not... who knows?

Dear friends, There has been a terrible mistake in general reviews of this perfume. This splendid, one of kind juice, is divine! In no way it is too harsh, too shocking, besides shockingly beautiful. Yes, it has earthy and animalic notes, but in no way they are overpowering or unbalanced. This amazing substance perfectly balances Geranium, Animalic Notes, Earthy Notes, and Resins. I blind-bought it, yes.. you can do it! And I suggest you do so! Since it is no longer produced, and it is maybe the cheapest Amouage you can get, and it's a unique unique experience, beautiful. (as well as consider it an investment, since surely in the future it will be highly sought after when no longer found) Another thing.. nobody thinks about it, however.. I happened to have a bottle and.. well.. it reminds me of a highly matured sophisticated niche version of Versace Blue Jeans! :)) Yes! And looking at the notes, no wonder! They have in common, citruses, geranium, vetiver and sandalwood! I hope this was entertaining for you, and I could not recommend this more.

Work of Art. Period. Cuddles to Amouage for daring to create sth this far from the current crowd-pleasers. I do see why this is not for everyone. It's haute parfumerie. Forget 'bout all the faux niche, ludicrously expensive phoney brands which have flooded the market in the past few years. Amouage stays true to its guts. Unlike so many others, unfortunately. Do I find Figment Man unwearable? Not at all. Not any less than Musc Ravageur or Timbuktu anyways, the perfect mix of which this one, imho, is. Earthy + animalic? C'mon, guys! The idea is friggin' brilliant and it pushes the boundaries of the familiar, the way all the truly great perfumes - Angel, Tubereuse Criminelle, Insensé, 1740, CdG2, and so many others - used to, remember? Yes, it's not goin' to garner as many compliments as, say, Sauvage or Bleu (shame, shame, shame... to Dior and CHANEL, of course). Does it mean it's worse? Well... let me put it this way: Is "The Sound and the Fury" worse than "Fifty Shades of Grey" just because it's less popular nowadays? I don't think so.

Oh god, I love this! Do I want to smell like a pissy unwashed homeless...? I guess I do... The smell of wet soil, a filthy beast rolling in vetiver, a leathery/amber from the labdanum binding it, with just surprising fresh whiffs of lemon and flowery weaving through...Sillage is crazy, longevity too... Wow, this is crazy stuff. Of all the out of the box stuff I smelled last few weeks of perfume cruising, this is not so much the most inventive or creative (there are great creations out there) but it's certainly the most invigorating, disgusting, heavenly, complex, over the edge one... This is a stench I wanna bath in, just 2 or 3 sprays on my wrists and I'm already in a cloud of it... I was already looking for a full bottle, the price is just way too crazy for me; cheapest trusted seller €189...wow. Will I go there? When the lottery is mine, for sure, otherwise it's a bit out of my league. But a 2ml tester once in a while, just to sniff this wild animalic grossness... <3 Hmm €130-140...that's more like it...

Unusual and comforting fragrance. Definitely has that soil tincture opening, yet also very clean smelling. For me personally, this is like many oud type fragrances, but with most of the darker backbone removed. There is absolutely no skankiness, but I can understand some people picking up on the civet note. I also get the damp cardboard a few others have mentioned, but this is freshly produced cardboard, dampened with clean rainwater. Most damp cardboard I encounter is old, musty, and the water has become stagnant. This definitely doesn't have that. I don't get any lemon, but can understand how some feel they can pick up that note. There is an element of freshness that hovers just below the top notes, that combined with the pepper, elevates this above a simple "potting soil" fragrance. One for the Autumn or Winter, but may be suitable for a cold Spring day too. Performance is very good, with projection perhaps only above average, but longevity is beyond ten hours on my skin.

I like Figment Man, glad I picked it up while still available. Of the 16 Amouage fragrances I own, I think it is definitely the most interesting, niche, and vintage-like. I read and watched reviews, knew what to expect. Under no circumstances would I recommend someone blind buy this. Nope. You had better like animalic and be comfortable with earthy and earthy from wood notes. I can see why many don't like it. Animalic and unusual notes challenge many noses. I happen to like floral, oriental, leather, amber, animalic, and more. I like its fresh opening, and the heart and base where it gets down to business. Great longevity. Wore it for casual wear today. Black Iris or Interlude tomorrow, and with two evening events this week, will wear Overture (with gentler animalic notes) and Royal Tobacco to those. Different frags for different venues. I love the fact that Amouage had the cajones to put this on the market, push limits, and keep the brand creative.

One case where the "reminds me of"s are very telling. If you know original Bat, Kouros and general Amouage quality, you can basically triangulate Figment Man and know what you're getting. Smelled off the cap or from afar, it is unmistakably Bat. However this is the compressed version, like listening to music through cheap headphones. Spraying it on is like playing the same thing through a good stereo - everything opens up. The Amouage quality is there in spades in a rich, multi-dimensional composition, and now the Kouros comparison starts to make sense, with a sporty lemon/geranium over bat-cave petrichor and civet-y animalic notes. I'm picturing a posh game of doubles being played at a country club with a petting zoo. However the animalic is way less funky than Kouros to me - this is still very attractive even up close. Not a typical Amouage but a relatively safe and totally fantastic sporty animalic. Love it!

I wrote a review years ago for a decant I had, but just bought me a bottle now with it being discontinued. I seem to appreciate and like this the more I wear it. Yes it smells like soil, ok, but for me, I was always searching for gothic, dark, sad fragrances. What most perfumes people think of with gothic seem to be rose or incense heavy (Van Cleef, Avignon, Ungaro III, Dali Pour Homme, etc.), and while those are still dark, this feels very different with its sharpness and earthiness and I think it hits gothic out of the park. However I can't see myself wearing it for any occasion, its solely for me when I feel like it. It's a very niche mood and I understand why most people wouldn't enjoy it. I don't find it animalic much at all either, just sharp. I still think its similar to l'orpheline, but I can't get into that one no matter how many times I try it again. I'm glad I got a full bottle before I couldn't.

I really enjoy this one, complete blind buy (I know, I know), and a complete success. This is not as challenging as some reviews suggest, it is actually quite approachable and pleasant. I am starting to think that negative reviewers only smell the opening on a card and never put it on skin. This starts out with a blast of anamalics and a pungent soil/dirt smell, that to my nose, smells exactly like beets from the garden. I can see why anyone would see this as challenging. However, this pungent opening only lasts 60 seconds, then it is followed by beautiful citrus, geranium and pink pepper, which freshens the whole composition. The soil and anamalic components never leave the composition and are noticeable in the sillage. This can be worn anytime, though high humidity might be a mistake...although that can be said for most fragrances. Beautiful creativity/artistry and for the lovers of nature. 9/10

Do you enjoy Serge Lutens Vetiver Oriental? Do you love cats? Do you take pleasure in gardening? Figment is kinda like if you put VO in a very musty soil mix and a cat pissed on it. Now, I can hear you say « that sounds horrible » and, yes, it does. But it smells even better! Angelus Libri, just before me here, made it sound poetic in their review — because this perfume IS poetry! — but I think what they left out is that it simultaneously smells kind of bad. But only "bad" in a modern sense, because a lot of people aren’t used to the smell of raw nature anymore, because everything and everyone smells soft and sweet and harmonious nowadays. Figment is raw, with sharp edges, yet when you give in and allow yourself, it transports you to a primeval forest after rain, where danger lurks but beauty abounds when you know where to look. A difficult scent for sure, yet rewarding when you surrender to it.

When this was released, I recall being incredibly taken by the damp soil accord, which made it one of my favourites from the house. I never pulled the trigger on it until this year. It’s not available in stores here so I bought it online for a reasonable price. To my surprise, there is next to none of that earthiness from my recollection and instead I get a very animalic geranium-forward scent with a base of guaiac, sandalwood and vetiver. After an hour the animalics smooth out. As this was released at the same time as Myths, I can’t help but compare the two. The smoky incense opening on Myths is to die for, but the dry down is less interesting. Figment on the other hand dries down to something far more captivating, and while it’s the not the fragrance I thought I was getting, I love it all the same. Interested to hear if anyone else has experienced similar variation with Figment Man batches.

Zoologist hyrax+zoologist bat (new edition)+ wet soil. This is a top 5 amouage of all time. Edit after sitting with it more: Figment man is the most surprising amouage that I have come across so far. It has horrid reviews and I’ve heard countless people talk about their bad experiences with this perfume. I think people misunderstand figment man. It’s not trying to smell like an aphrodisiac to others. Figment knows what it is, and sticks to it. That’s much more than a lot of perfumes can do today. It does have very prominent wet soil and dirty earthiness... but I don’t find that’s where the heart of this perfume lies. Figment has this very dry and odd scent coming from its heart. It smells like a mixture between the rubber bat decorations from Halloween, and a wine cork dipped in confectionery sugar. Add that to the wet soil smell, and this is a top 5 amouage for me (I’ve tried 40+).

I bought a decant after reading the comments below. People seem to be very "shocked" by this frag. So maybe I was a bit too excited about it in the first place but I must say that I wasn't that surprised by the scent when I tested it. I totally agree with the comments that say that you first get strong (very strong) earthy notes, very realistic actually (and not potting soil guys.. comon.. potting soil stinks so much ). Then, after some time you get lemons. Very fresh and masculine. I don't think Figment is that difficult to wear though. Nonetheless, this perfume is art and pretty serious art. Not that strange when compared to, for example, Beaufort London Fathom which is green feta salad in a bottle, so strange that it gets you laughing. Imo with Figment you stay in the wearable range, original scent that is classy, masculine and fresh.

There’s a reason this stays on my favorites shelf. Figment Man is the best recreation of wet woods I’ve ever smelled. Extremely sharp, but the dirtiest clean you’ll ever love. If you’re the type of person who loves to dig their toes into the soil, this is as good as it gets. Think you hate it after first smell? Put it on the shelf and come back in a few months. Between that time, you won’t be able to get it out of your mind, and you’ll keep coming back for wiffs. After some time, you just keep gaining more and more respect. That’s how Figment Man works. It messes with your senses. You want to hate it, but you end up in love with it. Luckily I’ll never get through an entire 3.4 ounce bottle in my lifetime, and that’s a wonderful thing! A true legend like Figment Man was destined for discontinuation.

Not that earthy or so animalic as the notes mentioned, more of flowery geranium and refreshing lemon in a way cooling down, all the way Amouagesque. And this really recalls some of the memory of old Bax, according to whom had experienced the damp coolness thing in the basement from the bottle of nevermore. (Though I consider the vintage Polo performance decent), I agree with @MississippiMudcat this is the strongest... on paper a week ago the silliage yet makes my jaw-dropping. Once in a while smelling this Amouagesque scent in the air floating in my room is a pleasure, just I am uncertain when or where to have this outrageous beast out with me, the heaviness of Amouage easily makes the impression of an expensive pomade, though it belongs to the most alluring gentleman of leisure.

Doesn't smell at all like what I expected based on the notes listed, and that's not a bad thing; this was love at first sniff for me. Maybe I'm just suggestible but I think this smells a lot like what the bottle looks like: a passing thunderstorm has left an electric-blue charge surging through moist soil. This is not the moldy, dank soil you can get from patchouli to my nose. I think this even has crowd-pleasing potential due to a surprising and un-gourmand sweetness, I guess owing to the top notes but it has a sour and wonderfully funky aspect. Conceptually, this conjures associations with Kouros: it smells delightful but there's an uncanny aspect of something unclean peeking out at you. Truly genius work from Annick Menardo, so of course it's discontinued.

LOVE. I bought this because I saw it was discontinued, then got scared reading all the reviews about how it stinks or smells bad, etc. As soon as I removed the wrapping and opened the box, the air was filled with a smell I have not sensed in any other perfume I've ever smelled and it was love at first sniff. This is rich and I can't stop reaching for the bottle and smelling the cap. There's something familiar that I couldn't put my nose on until hours later when I finally realized why I was feeling so soothed by this fragrance: it smells like some of the incense we use at my church! My wife says it reminds her of rain, which she loves. I will be purchasing backup bottles of this. It's a fantastic scent. Sad to see it has been discontinued.

i wore figment a few times, i didn*t get any compliments, but... -the opening is wonderful but challenging (some geranium-vetiver& a lot of earthiness) -after about 10 min. wet soil dominates and it lasts and lasts... about 10h on my skin!!! -after 2h i get some animalic, wet, soil vibe- geosmin -it doesn*t evolve that much after it i like it a lot because its completly different. not so likeable but i can*t stop sniffing it!!! After a month of wearing figment men i can confirm that this weird soily geosmin Note is not so pungent anymore. Or my nose got use to it...I ve got some compliments ... and now i truely adore IT... IT is summer now, and IT really shines in a Hot wheather. A masterpiece!!!

It's a masterpiece. The way I can relate it to scents I've tried before is to imagine a base of 1980's YSL Kouros with a good layer of FM Monsieur on top. I expected it to be more challenging than it is, given all the reviews I've read. Nose to ground: rainwater, dampened soil underneath rotting floorboards, mouldy lemon rinds and a hint of ammonia. It's so much more than these suggestions though and it really isn't horrible smelling if you open your mind up to it. No you won't be wearing it clubbing, but it's a truly evocative personal experience type of scent that you wear for yourself. I love it and I might have to buy a full bottle (though 100ml would undoubtably last me/anyone a lifetime).

Rains bring some amazing smell out of earth. That's something really good for many but pungent for some. That's what this perfume brings. Amazingness in a bottle which is coloured and designed accordingly. The earthy notes are pretty noticeable from the point go and they grow pretty strong, fairly strong and keep growing. It's surely an animalic perfume. The aura that this creates is impeccable, very very different. This is not ur typical oud our vetiver or leathery perfume, this is the bundle of different perfumes which vary and work together extremely well.. Surely is a power packed perfume. Not for every nose. 10/10 for longevity 10/10 for silage 10/10 for formulation 100/10 for sexiness...

I mainly get geranium in the opening, which I really like. Soon, I get the soil accord, but it's more subdued than in some other parfums using that same accord, like the original Bat. There is definitely an animalic aspect to it. I suspect it's civet, as it comes off a bit "pissy". This is a challenging fragrance, to be sure. But a rewarding one as well. It certainly won't work for everyone, but then again, what fragrance does? I really like this one. Art in a bottle. I'll wear it just for myself. Pro Tip: I don't think it will get many compliments, but it just might be enough to discourage your mother-in-law from extended visits if you spray this on the pillows in the guest room!

One of my favorites, and have yet to smell another like it. Opens up with a strong earthy smell, like smelling fresh dirt an hour after it has rained. It dries down to a pleasant earthy peppery lemon scent. The longevity is very good and this will last you the whole day if sprayed in the morning, but the longer I wear it the less of the earthy notes I smell until eventually it morphs into a mostly lemon scent on my skin. In hot weather the lemon takes over sooner, and in cold weather the earthy opening seems to last quite a bit longer. I prefer to wear it in colder weather because I find the earth notes more interesting, but it is sneakily versatile for being a more niche scent.

Can be ghastly in the wrong context, but going for a stroll on a warm, sunny day with a breeze it's absolutely perfect. I thought Myths Woman was the essence of the forest floor and it's earthy mulch until I smelled this. Exquisite, moldy, wet and green this is the photorealistic natural environment, whereas Myths Woman represents a melancholic hydra slithering about in the swampy mud. Further exploration reveals minty sweetness with some sparkle, I guess the geranium and vetiver. Card testers don't do this justice, put it on your skin. Uodate: annoying aftermath from this perfume is a permanent geosmin smell on fabric - powerful and eternal. It makes me hesitant to wear it.

Initial fifteen minute impression: WOW I get an earthy, soil, damp jungle, and animalic smell right away, and it's not unpleasant but rather intriguing. I really like it even though it's not what most people would associate with what perfume should smell like... Then there's a lemon-lime citrus and herbaceous quality that rises up which is really nice. This fragrance doesn't give me any of the bad vibes that many other reviewers seem to get from it. Just from this initial impression, I can definitely see how Figment Man tends to be a love it or hate it kind of fragrance. Gotta shower and go out, but I'm looking forward to future wears of this fragrance!

Smells like a cool spring morning near a beaver dam along a creek. The sun rising stirring up the dewy vegetation and soil. The markings of beaver coming to life in the sun and dew. A bee collecting nectar from a dandelion, it flys back to it's hive. A heavy floral, sweet, zesty, musky honey made mostly from the nectar of dandelions that are a common early source of food in spring. A mix of native evergreen. One a victim of the beavers during the night. The woods of the dam are dank along with the soil. A mix of north facing moss and fungi on some logs, trees, soil, rocks. This one is special.

The animalic note smells very real. If you spray this on card, you could easily think it would be impossible to wear, but on the skin, or my skin at least, it smells awesome and not difficult at all. Caveat - I decant my bottle into a tiny roller and apply tiny dabs to key locations on my skin. Incidentally, today I accidentally (absent-mindedly) layered this over Musk Khabib Attar by Bortnikoff (which has real deer musk and real ambergris). Oh my fucking christ it's a good combination... I'd describe it as a fluffy, kitty belly, pissy, geranium, musky wonderland.

I’ve just bought this fragrance, it’s very addictive, very niche. Animalistic note reminds me a little bit of Nishane Unutamam which I really like. Figment is not for classic fragrances collectors, it is fully niche experience. Like I said, it’s very addictive, I keep smelling this on myself whilst writing this review. For me this scent is perfect when I want to smell good but only for myself. It doesn’t mean some people wouldn’t appreciate the uniqueness of it. But I’d rather wear this when I’m alone or in a group of who will understand my olfactory weirdness 🙂

This one has reached deep into my subconscious memory. It is absolutely as advertised. Damp soil, earthy, sweet patchouli. But it reminds me of childhood, digging in the dirt on a warm day and just laying down in the earth. Smells both like new growth and decay. It makes me so happy. Photorealistic green/natural is something I love wearing, so if that's your thing, you'll probably love this. However it does dry down with a slight animal urine smell note. Try it first. Update: the late hours life of the fragrance smells like straight up cat pee. Sad!

This one has a wow factor. However, be aware because it's challenging as well. I don't get the earthiness. To me it's animalic, big time animalic. In a pleasant, addictive way though. Other notes are perfectly blended and I can't see any of them popping to the surface - they just give this fragrance some volume and balance the animalic accord, so the composition has more accomplished, sophisticated facet. It doesn't evolve on my skin, it's pretty linear. But it's long lasting and powerful. Got to say, I like it a lot.

This captures an early morning down by a creek to me. It's very fresh and invigorating. I do understand why some people say it's smells like dirt, but there is way more than that once you actually wear it. There is nothing foul or off-putting about this. There is no pissy note, but there is a hint of ammonia that achieves a morning dew vibe. If you are only into to fragrances for complements, you are not going to like this. I personally think it is a wonderful, unique smell. There is nothing quite like it.

Figment starts very cool and aloof. After about 15 minutes the vetiver and sandalwood arrive with a blast. Coupled with the lingering geranium, the effect is almost patchouly-like. This is eventually softened by hints of leather and tonka, before Figment turns briefly animalic. The plunge into the base is quite dramatic, with the gaiac and labdanum forming a beautiful and long-lasting dry-down. Figment eventually ends with a return to its opening chords. So, quite a ride, and one well worth the money.

This is by far the strongest fragrance that I have ever owned. The original Ralph Lauren Polo in the beautiful green bottle from back in 1978 and into the early 80's versions is a distant second. If you like earthy and soil/dirt like accords as I do then this will be right up your alley. I don't get any fecal or urine smell out of it, but I would not attempt to wear this unless it is cold outside. I love it, but you MUST sample it first because it is definitely not a safe blind buy.

This is so complex and multifaceted. It starts leathery and animalic in the ballpark of YAL Kourous / ELDO Rien and turns into this beautiful transparent lemony earthy smell like Terre D’Hermes. Totally non linear. Very unique and big love for me. Its one of those fragrances that you have to test for a longer time to appreciate. This is not for smelling over a tester strip. The opening might be off putting to some but just let it settle for some time and you will enjoy.

I was working at the hospital today when we had a much needed summer rain. The only reason I knew it was raining was because I smelled it through the ventilation system. It was a wet asphalt and leaves type of smell that immediately reminded me of this Amouage masterpiece. People can lowball this one all they want, but Figment Man in my eyes is their best creation, and I’ve sampled most of them. Their loss is my gain. 10/10

Initial Impression: This fragrance reminds me of walking downtown in a big city where there are lots of homeless people living on the street - like urine soaked cardboard. After a full wearing: The pissy animalic note is pretty much all I get from this and it stays throughout the entire fragrance. However, I found myself hating it less the longer it was on my skin, which felt like an eternity. This is a beast!

This is a very hard fragrance to wear. Much harder then Interlude.. But I like it and will wear it on a, cloudy, cold winter day wearing all black outfit with a black wool coat. Its earthy but there is some sweetness to this earthiness. For me this is Chanel Antheus sprayed on a black soil. Scent: 8/10 (because of the wearability factor) Quality: 10/10 (Originality goes here too) Lonegvity: +9h Sillage: 6-8h

Uniquely melancholic flowerless woods in the rain. A contemplative perfume. Opens wildly with earthy / damp notes, immediately after is citrusy, but not for long, then settles again into petricor-ish wet soil again. Difficult to pull off in a conventional setting but hey if you can please do. This is no people-pleasing perfume. This is where perfume wants to be art. Thanks Amouage.
