Journey Man

As with all Amouage releases during the Christopher Chong era, Journey Man is a true assault to the senses. Upon it's opening your nose is brutally assaulted with high doses of Cardamom, Bergamot, Sichuan Pepper, & Cypriol. Its opening is Dry Green Leafy, Smoky, Oily, Woody, Citrusy, & Warm Spicy. So lets address the complexed notes. Cardamom is a complexed note. It smells both Warm Spicy & also Fresh Spicy. Think a Green Nutmeg-like baking spice. At the same time it smells Citrusy with Minty/Eucalyptus-like nuances. The note of Cardamom here in Journey Man is very nuanced because its made up of different types of Cardamom. Green Cardamom is Herbal & Spicy. Yellow Cardamom is Sweet & Spicy. Black Cardamom is late harvested & dried over fire. So it carries Earthy, Soil-like, Smoky, Peppery, Warm Spiced, Camphorous nuances. Camphor smells sort of like an Airy & Cooling mix between Minty & Mentholated, & is very sharp to the nose. White Cardamom is Citrusy & Minty. With nuances of Eucalyptus. Cypriol is another complexed note. Cypriol is often used by perfumers to mimic the smell of Oud, or to enhance the note of Oud. Depending on its usage Cypriol can smell Leafy Green. Motor Oil-like or both Oily & Woody, or Smoky. Sometimes even Leathery. In the opening of Journey Man you get the full complexity of both Cardamom & Cypriol. Which then blends seamlessly with the notes of Bergamot & Sichuan Pepper for very unique Spicy opening that smells absolutely beautiful In the cool Fall air. As the fragrance develops the two complex notes of Cardamom & Cypriol balance & show the many nuances of their depth & complexity as a Dry Leafy Tobacco note comes into play. The fragrance pretty much stays linier after the introduction of Tobacco for hours & hours, until somewhere long after 24 hours you're left with the skin scent of dry green sweet spiced Cardamom. Journey Man is often labeled a "Tobacco" fragrance, but its a "Cardamom" fragrance through & through. With Each additional note in this fragrance working to not only enhance & showcase every nuance of the Cardamom note itself, but all of the different types of Cardamom as well. No Amouage fragrance developed under the creative direction of Christopher Chong was without depth, complexity, & brutally offensive performance. It was the thing that made Amouage fragrances truly "Niche". I'm very happy to be able to say that all of my Amouage fragrances are earlier releases from Chong's era. Journey Man is not Unisex. Its unapologetically Masculine, & its performance is formidable. Down right diabolical. In the early days of Fragrance reviews Journey Man was often compared to smelling like YSL's "La Nuit De L'homme". ... & it does not. Absolutely nothing compares to the scent of Amouage's Journey Man. Journey Man is a warm spicy/fresh spicy Cardamom fragrance that smells like the color of its bottle. Perfect for the Fall, & also Winter.

Allow me to open my soul, for speaking of Journey Man is not debating a mere cosmetic, a superficial vanity to adorn the body of a mundane man. It is a true anatomy of the spirit, a descent into the abysses of consciousness and a subsequent ascent through the path of redemption. The opening is a violent punch, a brutal shock, a profusion of Sichuan pepper, cut by a bitter bergamot, sharp as a razor's edge. Some at this point may recoil in horror, considering it an "aggressive," "pungent" opening that suffocates the sense of smell. But isn't this the exact representation of the birth of consciousness? The awakening of man to a hostile world, where the truth assaults him before consoling him? Some feel in this initial aggression an almost divine glimpse, an audacity that defies the mediocrity of mass culture. And then, when the flesh is already numb from the punishment of the pepper, the fragrance transforms. We enter the second act, with the emergence of a dry, dense, profoundly masculine tobacco—but devoid of any cheap sweetness. It is the tobacco of men who have lived, who bear scars. Alongside it rises incense, the mystical signature of Amouage. This incense is not that of a joyful celebration, but the smoke of an empty church at midnight, a silent cry for transcendence. Beside it, a strange, almost ghostly note emerges: the smell of "damp earth," of mineral soil, as if the perfume, beneath the smoke, reminds us of our own mortal condition. Memento mori. This is the fragrance for the man imbued with primal courage, the one who will meet his father-in-law or face destiny head-on. Journey Man is a beautiful and tragic heresy. It takes the classic genre of masculinity and elevates it to the status of metaphysical drama. It's not a fragrance to please everyone, as most prefer the deceit of easy, sweet scents. It divides opinions because it forces the individual to look inward. It's the journey of a soul that accepts the fire of pepper, walks through the smoke of tobacco and incense, to finally find rest in leather and earth. Let those who have nostrils to breathe, breathe! And have a good trip...

My first few wearings of Amouage Journey Man and I'm very impressed. Comes across as mature, masculine, dry and a little rugged. I will be wearing this more and updating my review here but here are my instant impressions without delving too much into the note breakdown. Journey Man lives up to its name and to me, the scent stimulates my imagination of how the journey along the spice route may have smelled. The opening of Journey Man is gorgeous with its neroli, bergamot, juniper, cypriol and Szechuan pepper. I'm not picking up much cardamon. Each note sings as they jostle for attention for about 10 minutes. The neroli sometimes feels like it doesn't belong in the opening jostle, but you miss it when it fades out of attention and then welcome it back. In the mid the neroli and bergamot fade away first and the cyproil and juniper are joined by leather, incense and tonka. This creates a warm peppery aroma with a little spiked greenness and a hint of sweetness. This scent reminds me of another with a similar dry spicy vibe that I have in my collection by Penhaligons called As Sawira. 'As Sawira' is again a dry spicy scent but has some floral notes of rose and jasmine making it lean unisex. Journey Man is unmistakably masculine. Wearing Journey Man and 'As Sawira' side by side they complement each other very well and could be a powerful his and hers combo for a couple who enjoy spicy scents. Initial impression is that it would be best suited for the cooler weather and I am still undecided if this is a dressed up or dressed down scent. It could easily be either. My limited time wearing leads my gut feeling to that it's smart-casual, maybe flannel shirt smart jeans and boots type of scent. I think this would be too potent for the office and I doubt it will appeal much to those below 35. For a younger nose Journey Man may certainly be a challenge with that peppery incense. I highly recommend sampling first and not blind buying. For older guys with more seasoned noses this awakens the senses with something a little more unique and an experience that very few scents have offered in recent years. I'm middle aged and could easily wear Journey Man as a cool / cold season, out of office signature scent.

As a city dweller who doubles as a farmer and medicinal grower, child of the forest, and incurable traveler of the Americas top to bottom, this scent unlike any other has captured that mystified life being simultaneously intertwined with wild nature and estranged from it — the ways those earthly, rich, wholesome sensations which held me in the forest keep themselves alive during the long spells spent away from it, conjuring twisted meanings and bizarre fascinations. The strongest impressions I get from the whole ensemble are more robust and intricate than any of the notes listed: caustic Artemisia and Myrtle vapors, trampled and muddied Brambles and equine forage, the incensial beyond-body odor rank of Coffee plantation, incestuous mingling of a herd dog’s mane and Wool sebum, Alpine pond sludge, Rainforest camp fires, putrefied Bitter Orange and Lime, overripe Banana flowers. When I close my eyes and spray my face, it feels like what it’d be to find warmth in the middle of a cool misty forest, in an old decaying hollowed out tree, and crawling inside to discover yet another inside-out world teeming within. As for the composition... Journey is blended so perfectly and stays that way until it has faded out completely a day later. There isn’t any one note that is overly prominent, either in the nose or the dry-down. It is such an electrifying balance of hot and cold, refreshing and funky, lite and heavy that it just begs you to keep inhaling deeper trying to chase that elusive acrid something — the Cypriol, I believe. The Juniper, on the other hand, is so well hidden it wouldn’t register to you unless you’d had it in your head that’s what you were smelling (I still choose not to have it in mine). The Musk and Tonka used are so thin and ethereal, it’s hard to ever get a pure glimpse of a sweet base in this perfume without active modulation by the green and spicy textures married to it. Amouage are really who turned me on to using exotic savory spices like coriander, nutmeg, pink pepper, or caraway. It seems so fitting then that their best men’s perfume would be crowned with the most singular top note of all these: the Szichuan Pepper.

I normally would not advocate for blind buying amouage, but I did here. I was able to get someone’s 85% full 50ml bottle for under $95, so I didn’t even hesitate. Initial impressions (tester strip): “Woah.” That was my reaction. Extremely layered, such beautiful quality and blend as expected from amouage. It’s not fair for me to label something a masterpiece after my first sniff of it, especially for it being on a tester strip, but it’s pushing into that territory. I’m getting sweet and extremely deep smelling resins paired with the smoothest blend of spices I’ve ever smelled in a perfume. It’s mouthwatering (not gourmand) and the tonka and leather complement each other so perfectly. I will give a proper review after 3+ full wearings, as of now, 9.7/10 Edit after a couple full wears; yes this does live up to the glaze I was giving it in my initial impressions. Amouage Journey Man is a unique perfume from start to finish. It opens up very aromatic and sweet, but the sweetness does not come from a gourmand aspect whatsoever, it’s like a sweet pepper note (assuming coming from the sichuan pepper). However, the pepper is not sharp at all, and the aromatics mixed with the sweet pepper in the opening combined with a very realistic tobacco note give off an almost sweet sauce smell. It’s actually really unique, and it smells so incredible. As a matter of fact, you could classify this as a gourmand in that aspect, although the perfume changes. As the perfume develops, the sweet “saucy” vibe remains, but there’s a touch of leather and a really nice sweet tonka from the base. If you want an amouage complexity and quality perfume that doesn’t have a basic scent profile, but that is also relatively easy to wear and versatile (not for warm summer days, but this thing works surprisingly well in all weather to me. I wore it in Florida and in the Midwest and it did very well in both) then Amouage journey man is an amazing pick if you don’t want a clean and slightly boring amouage like reflection man. 9.7/10 is my final rating. Really gorgeous perfumery and execution, good performance, good bottle, good everything!

French DNA in an oriental way! Elegant and sophisticated, Journey Man sets a new level of good taste, a classic-modern from the moment of his birth. Meeting Amouage Journey Man was love at first sight. Before I noticed the olfactory pyramid, I tested it in a perfumery while studying a few other brands. The meeting was shocking. A perfume so sensual, masculine in the true sense of the word but also lush, without sharp edges or dark shadows, I was rarely allowed to try. The second thing that instantly fascinated me was the fact that it pulls its branches from the trunk of a french masterpiece perfumery ... Chanel Egoiste. While Jacques Polge has masterfully executed the combination of tobacco, rose and cinnamon, creating a cult fragrance that deserves its glory, two other big names... Alberto Morillas and Pierre Negrin later manage to elevate the woody-spicy scent to another rank , keeping the same dry tobacco from Egoiste but rounded by pepper, neroli, cardamom and juniper, the end taking an oriental turn given by the incense, the cornerstone of the Oman house. The two perfumes are totally different but share similar DNA that would translate into luxury, opulence and attitude, even arrogance. Once again, the two perfumes, although they have a common point, the dry tobacco, not the sweet one from Tom Ford, each follow different paths. The presentation proposed this time by Amouage for Journey Man reflects what the perfume conveys. Expires sumptuousness. Performance is typical, long lasting. Longevity over 10-12 hours, good projection. It is suitable to be worn at special indoor events but it works beautifull from my point of view even during a walk in the middle of autumn. Who can wear it? Anyone as long as they know how to say anything no matter what, to anyone and at any time while maintaining class or character.

I have obtained a sample for this fragrance from a friend, whose wife told him he can't wear it due to her dislike for it. When I first smelt it, it was instant absolute love. I have never worn a fragrance at home, despite having over 50 in my collection. This one called for me, to apply it regardless, each morning. It lifts the mood, the emotions, it elevates your being. Needless to say, shortly after my first encounter, I have ordered 2 bottles. I sincerely hope this one stays my signature scent as it embodies the metaphysical me. While it is absolutely not a crowd pleaser, it is a far more than just a nose pleaser. It pleases the emotions, the ego, it calms but yet it gives power. I haven't felt anything like it. It does take you on a journey. First, you're blasted by photorealistic sichuan pepper, which wakes your sense, alongside immidiate hint of incense. You feel the warmth of cardamom, which comforts you, despite hightening your senses with the pepper spicyness. After drying down, more beautiful leather comes thru, the tobacco and you feel the presence of incense, while still having the presence of bergamot, which adds a citrusy nuance, keeping the fragrance bubbly and fresh (it is not a freshy by any means!). Even during drydown, you will experience the journey you have set upon, as the fragrance changes throughout the entire duration of the wear. Scent: 11/10 Longevity: 9/10 (will get you thru the day) Sillage: 8/10 (perfect for sophistication - this is NOT your ultramale philosophy) Price: 10/10 (obtained 2 bottles for 160 each, for that price, it's a straight up steal) Season: Definitely best during autum and winter, but there is no way I'm not wearing it all year round as it doesn't have that cold-weather-only backbone, but it is refreshing and airy

The whiteness of the overture is quick followed by a chiaroscuro of adamantine Geraniol and crushed Tobacco leaves, both facetted by the Juniper Berry and the balsamic and resinous sweetness of Frankincense Resinoid. The light is dimmed furthermore by animalic inflections of Leather and Cypriol, but there remains a reassuring spark of Ambroxan and Tonka Bean glowing through the night. An intriguing game of nuances, from dancing shadows to elusive lights, Journey Man explores the metamorphosis of all human emotions. Perfumer: Pierre Negrin and Alberto Morillas Thoughts... My first impression of this, Woah, Spicy amazing smelling Pepper Bomb! Loud Spicy Sichuan goodness with soft cirtus. Along with it I get the typical Amouage Incense, smokey, leather, tobacco. Definitely Bottle Worthy. Very good projectivity and Silage, very good scent bubble around the wearer. Whole day longetivy. Very well blended but it's the Loud Sichuan Pepper domination at the start with support notes that makes it so aromatic and beautifully musculine. If you don't like Pepper and Spiciness in a frag, this Journey isn't for you because it calls out to its wearer that this is a Olfactory Journey for them. Journey is a Loud, Classy, Confident and Arrogant scent. Aggressive but not too aggressive out in the heat. Bold and outspoken. Elegant and Sophisticated. Here you Belongs. This is for you.

Journey Man is often referred to as "a tobacco fragrance by Amouage", but in my opinion this description is reductive and misses the point of this fairly nuanced creation. It's a scent that embodies its name, with a slow-burning evolution that moves from a fiery start to a warm, contemplative finish. Journey was my third purchase from the Omani house two years ago, a bottle I initially let go of, only to recently reacquire it. My renewed appreciation stems from the brilliant use of the cypriol note, which, despite the perfume's reputation, is quite structural in the composition's drydown. The fragrance begins with a blast of bitter orange, Sichuan pepper, and cardamom. The combination feels like a dance between the spicy pepper and the cooling cardamom. A touch of opulent neroli adds further bitter-floral freshness. This initial phase is energetic, in contrast to its eventual dry down. As the journey progresses, the scent becomes woodier and smokier (probably due to cade oil), with a delicate, wispy frankincense and the earthiness of cypriol. The supposed headliners - tobacco and leather - are reserved, almost shy. The tobacco is dry and subtle, weaving in and out of the incense trail, while the leather is soft, and fleeting. In terms of performance, Journey isn't a loud scent. It is a quiet burn with a reserved scent bubble, perfect for formal settings. Longevity wise, 8 hours on skin and a bit longer if you spray on clothes. Overall, Journey is a well blended composition from master perfumers Morillas and Negrin that might remain reserved to those who appreciate hidden gems... but it shouldn't remain hidden, especially if you like cypriol!

Amazing. This might be my new favorite. Smells like a mix of other Amouage that I love with all the incense. The bergamot neroli is top notch. It's a rich scent. 10/10 a masterpiece. Top perfumers, top ingredients, this is Amouage After more experience with this I'm getting some contrast and distinction. The Sichuan pepper stands out right away, cardamom lingering. Soapy citrusy neroli. It pops off the skin pretty well at this point. As the incenses and smoke take over the performance settles down except for one ingredient. That being the geranoil. Maybe it's the color of the bottle but a red leather smoky rose comes out from the geraniol and cyproil. The flower coming off as like a very nice rose water with the cyproil giving it an astringency like a rose extract. I woke up smelling a strong spicy smoky leathery rose that I felt familiar with but didn't know why. Then I realized it was the journey man. I reapplied and went to work breaking it down more. The red bottle fits so well. It's a rich blend but could be signature worthy for a wide range of men because of it's uniqueness and quality. Only wish the opening and mid lasted longer. Especially the first couple hours. 9/10 now because the flower power of the dry down is good but it's not good enough for a 10 from me. I'm programed to only have one rosey fragrance as a ten and this one isn't it. It's very masculine but I'm very particular about my rose smells. I love really soft light fluffy sparkling rose water mist with no harsh abrasive smells to get a 10. I wish I could hold all fragrances to this standard. But I'm probably gonna keep feeling differently.

"The Hidden Amouage Gem" There have been much discussions about Amouage Journey. Some say it is overrated because it doesn't stack up against Interlude or other beasts from Amouage. I belong to the category of people who genuinely think that Journey is underrated and overlooked by fragrance lovers. No fragrance can stand up against Interlude. Interlude is in its own league, but Journey is a hidden gem of Amouage fragrances. It is masculine, but not over the top or in your face. It is done to perfection. It is fresh, aromatic but also spicy, sweet and smoky. I can't distinguish what contributes to the sweetness but it is controlled, natural and not cloying. Tobacco makes it even more charismatic, and it is there from start to finish. Frankincense will be there during the dry down. Amouage Epic and Journey are somewhat in the same genre and in the middle of the spectrum. If Reflection is the smoothest fragrance Amouage offers and Interlude is the darkest, Journey sits right in the middle the of the spectrum. The way Epic and Journey differ is Epic leans toward eastern perfumery while Journey leans toward western perfumery. It smells really modern and like a well made European fragrance. It is the perfect fragrance for office settings, meetings, and work in general. You will get noticed, and heads will be turned. It doesn't have the WOW factor of Interlude or the sensual side of Lyric, but gets attention in a very polite and professional manner. A 10/10 fragrance from my all time favorite house. I can't praise Amouage enough.

The opening is dry and very spicy. I get menthol or eucalyptus type of green smell. The cardamom is present all the way. It is refreshing but harsh not like minty opening of Memoir Man which is juicy and smooth. It goes into the heart notes within 15-20 minutes. You get a little bit of fruity vibe but the main player is spices in this fragrance. Some compare it to spicebomb, la nuit by ysl etc. No similarity at all, absolutely nothing. This is not sweet, crowd pleaser mall type of a fragrance. It is unique, can be sexy with appropriate type of clothes(business casual or suit) The incense is not as strong as interlude but it is there. It is not a super dark, dry, spicy fragrance. It is balanced very well. It actually smells much much better in the air than it is on skin. When you stick your nose to your arm and smell it, it is bitter and has some harshness but in the air, it smells fantastic and people do ask what it is. The performance is not a beast but it is much better this way for this particular one. It lasts about 7-8 hours. The projection is about 2 hours withing an arm lenght. The silage is very good and people do pick up in the air when you pass through. The bottle looks just amazing in the collection. It is my favorite Amouage bottle and people looking at my collection tend to grab this one first to see what it smells like. Btw, you cannot see through the bottle and juice level inside even with led light. I bought it blind and I am satisfied with it but I do not recommend blind buying this one.

I am in love with Amouage. Really, every fragrance that I have tried from this house so far has been a wonderful surprise and Journey Man is not an exception. Elegant, addictive, perfect. It's classy but in a relaxed way. I find this one really easy to wear but I prefer to wear this thogheter with elegant/formal clothes, or at least paired with a nice shirt. I think that it works well even in slightly warmer weather, like during spring or not too hot summer nights. I don't get the "old man vibe" that someone wrote about. On the contrary , it's classy but in a modern way. I get a blast of spices, pepper and cardamon are the Kings here, surrounded but the right amount of smokiness ( incense) and woody notes with, on top, some freshness , maybe from some citrusy notes. I don't get too much leather or tobacco, maybe a little bit during the dry down. It also has some sweet notes , I guess that the sweetness comes from the Tonka bean , that balances the whole composition. I don't find Journey man a dry fragrance, it's just balanced, not too dry and not too sweet. Just perfect. What can I say, I LOVE this fragrance and it seems like a lot of people like this one as I get often noticed and complimented. Longevity is very good and sillage moderate as it should be for a truly elegant scent. Can't wait to try out other perfumes from this house. ! 4/5 stars for me.

#545 in my "Tour de Fragrance" 545 trials into my fragrance journey I'm excited that this "Journey" is like nothing else I've encountered so far. Seriously, this one is unique, and very masculne. I get lots of emails thanking me for suggesting lower priced alternatives to high price fragrances, but sorry guys, I haven't tried anything like this so far from the Arab houses. Some have suggested Al Areeq Silver, which I also have. Sorry, but Al Areeq has no pepper and no bergamot, so it lacks both a citrus and spicy component which combine to make this fragrance pretty nice. Not knocking Al Areeq Silver, which is a great fragrance in its own right, but it's not close to this at all. I have no experience with the first four "reminds me of" at all, but Roja Harrod's Aoud is $650, and I can't find a source for the others. So this is going to be my third full bottle purchase of an Amouage scent for myself (joining Interlude Black Iris and Reflection Man), though I've purchased several Amouage scents for women who were delighted by the gift. I think you can get away with wearing this for business and formal wear for sure. Date wear also. But go easy in a business setting. If you overspray this will be obnoxious and headache-inducing in a close space. You should certainly get a sample. Too expensive to blind buy and find out you don't like it.

وقتی سال ۲۰۰۹ اپیک رو به عنوان اولین عطری که از برند آمواج دیده بودم تست کردم، پیش خودم گفتم مگه میشه یه برند عمانی عطری به این شکل و در نهایت کیفیت بسازه!! و وقتی فهمیدم که سلطان عمان بانیه ظهور این برنده، دیدم که؛ بله میشه! فرقی نمیکنه دست رو کدوم یکی از عطرهای این برند میذاری، همه اونها بی اندازه با کیفیت و اکثرا خلاقانه هستند و در هر شکلی که باشن رایحه ایی سلطنتی دارن. بریم سراغ جورنی، این عطر در دسته چوبی-ادویه ایی طبقه بندی میشه، به محضی که اسپری کنین فضای آروماتیک بسیار قوی حاکم میشه که حدود ۳۰ ثانیه پایدار هست و متعاقب اون، ترکیبی قوی از فلفل سینشوان و برگاموت و هل با حضور کمرنگ شکوفه پرتقال ظاهر میشه، سینشوان علاوه بر نت ادویه ایی، آکورد مرکباتی رو هم تقویت میکنه، بعد از این شروع فوق العاده، ترکیب تنباکو، میوه سرو کوهی و بخور یک فضای گرم با محوریت تنباکو ایجاد میکنن که البته این حس گرم و دلپذیر با کمک جرانیول که در این وبسایت بهش اشاره نشده به زیبایی بالانس میشه، جرانیول یک حس تازگی و فرش بودن رو به نتهای میانی اضافه میکنه، و در نهایت ترکیب چرم، روغن سیپریول و مشک فضایی تاریکتر رو ایجاد میکنن در اینجا دانه تونکا فقط به نت چرم کمک میکنه. از نظر پخش بو باید بگم حبابی با شعاع دو متر دور شما ایجاد میشه و ماندگاری عطر هم عالیه. در بین تمام کارهای آمواج، جورنی واقعا محجور مونده و واقعا نیاز به توجه بیشتری داره و شایسته تقدیر هست.

Nose Note #889 Noone mentioned this, but personally I can't help but feel I'm wearing something inbetween Paco Rabanne XS, Creed Himalaya and Carrolina Herrera For Men. All three are sort of halfway freshies from the 00s, i.e. fresh, but not enough. I just can't see why other people don't see the similarities smell-wise. I'm getting exactly the same vibe with Journey Man - the Tide "mountain air" washine mashing powder. I know Journey lists tobacco and so does CH For Men, but it's so mild I would never even think it has tobacco in it. Take XIV Royal Tobacco - man, that's tobacco. Journey Man feels like an another take on XS from the 1994, but much stronger... Stronger enough that you can't really wear it in high heat under the sun. Otherwise the scent is just so so similar. Don't look at the big pictures of Pepper, Tobacco, Incense, Leather and think that it's like a super peppery / incensy typical Amouage stuff. This is basically XS with 20% of Amouage identity. I still love the DNA, but didn't expect to get another take on a classic. I mean, car has four wheels but I don't need a forth installment to drive. 8.1/10, solid thing, easy to wear, easy to like (for a grown man). Performance is the best

Having tried 8-10 different fragrances from this house, including the more popular ones (Jubilation, Interlude, Reflection Man, etc.), this one is my favorite (Memoir Man is second for me). To my nose, this is a nice dry, spicy, and incense-centered fragrance. There is the slightest bit of an animalic note in this which is my least favorite, but I’d say it’s <5% of the composition, only comes up when smelling where i sprayed, and is blended in a way that i think actually probably props up other aspects of the fragrance that i like. I find many of the other fragrances from Amouage either uninteresting (Beach Hut Man) or harder to wear (Interlude, Jubilation). I can appreciate the quality in all of their fragrances, but simply don’t like several of them on me (not a bad reaction, just not smells i want to follow me with intensity). This, to me, is the perfect fragrance to venture into the house smell while still being wearable, unique, pleasant, and versatile. It’s provides a mysterious, exotic, and intriguing profile, similar to what I’d expect to smell on a warm moroccan night. It’s what i expected from Tauer’s l'air du desert marocain (which i also didn’t care for much).

A masterclass on the usage of Sichuan Pepper and Cypriol. This perfume opens with a mesmerising Sichuan Pepper supported by soft citruses, which is a very underrated note in my opinion and the perfumer manages to unveil its full potential. It lingers throughout the whole composition along with cypriol, smokey tobacco and leather. Normally cypriol tends to be overwhelming and dominant, yet somehow this perfume manages to combine it with other strong notes and tame these beasts to be mellow and harmonious. An incredible feat which is baffling how underrated this fragrance is. Everything is rounded of by the signature Amouage incense and slightly sweetened by tonka. I don't use the word "evocative" very often, but this perfume truly lives up to its name. When I was younger the stories of "One thousand and one nights" was truly captivating for my once adventurous self that was long gone. Yet smelling it immediately transport me to an arduous journey through the scorching sands, with no end in sight. Well, if the journey is as rewarding as the scent itself, I certainly wouldn't mind not reaching any sort of conclusion for this epic tale.

Amouage Journey Man takes me back to a recent journey to Milan, Italy. As always there were a lot of clearly wealthy people shopping for luxury goods and I kept smelling this amazing oriental, spicy fragrance around middle eastern men. I just had to find out what they were wearing, but didn’t feel like directly asking them. 2 months later I started my introduction to the house of Amouage at a niche store and immediately recognized Journey Man as that scent I picked up everywhere in Milan! Due to the price I did not buy it, but now I just order multiple 2ml samples, which allow me to add it to my rotation without having to splurge 300€ on a full bottle. As for the scent I find it so inviting and interesting, it makes me feel like a wealthy mysterious business man. The sichuan pepper is very strong, but well balanced by the other notes in my opinion. The longevity is not as good as one would hope at least on my skin. After about 4 hours I only get very small wafts so would need to respray. But probably this is due to both my skin chemistry and the fact that I use a small tester.

Journey Man. WOW! As a an Amouage fan-boy, I surprised myself at how long I took before including this in my burgeoning fragrance collection. Better late than never, as it was definitely worth the wait. How to describe this masculine masterpiece in the simplest of terms? It's like Journey Man started life as Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, (which shouldn't come as a surprise as they both are created by master perfumer Alberto Morillas), GGAPH being uncompromisingly masculine with the leather taking on a medicinal vibe, while JM dispenses with most of that medicinal vibe and instead incorporates a sexy dose of spices and bergamot. The similarity between these 2 juggernauts is most notable in the dry down, suffice to say, that, either way, both are intended for the modern cowboy. On a sweaty horse in the unforgiving Australian Outback, you will find your cowboy wearing Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, whereas your urban cowboy, 'shooting up' the boardrooms of the city, proudly wears Journey Man by Amouage.

Oh this is surprisingly nice! It opens cold spicy - the cardamom and lots of Sichuan pepper are very prominent. It's cold spicy, earthy on that juniper way, bitter fresh. It's backed by that neroli and bergamot to give some elevation, freshness, I admit - to some maybe a cleaning soap way (🤷 don't blame me, some hate neroli and citrus). I'm not sure about the tobacco and incense - I don't get much of those. It's spicy earthy citrus sharp with a slightly animals side - it's not sweaty or fecal, not at all, it's a bit acidic/sour in that aninalic way but only up close and pleasantly. There's almost like an almond bitterness and note here (heliotrope?), And to be honest the earthy tones remind me a hit of beetroots (I still find it very pleasant!). To be honest I think you can wear it the whole year anywhere you want and anytime, even to the office if you don't overspray. It's earthy, spicy, clean, i don't see why you couldn't. To me it's masculinez with a strong projection and good longevity.

It’s kind of the spices version of penhaligons Halfeti. Specially in the drydown its gorgeous! Sweetfresh spicey and bit soury and before you notice what it is it gets dark! Now this is wat you call a journey. First time I really didn’t like it till the drydown came. Since then every spray is like a journey for me since I know where it’s heading to. Think Amougae did a excellent job on this one.. huge fan of this house. As I spend a lot of time with Xerjoff and Creed en some with penhaligons.. amouage is far out the best for me. Instead of reformulation they make their scents better in my opinion. Don’t buy it retail you can get it for the half sometimes (100ml) for 160. I also get the spiceyness of creed viking and the warmness of penhaligons halfeti leather.. if that makes sense? Just before the end of my review I smelled it again and could stop typing this. Nice scent but not worth the retail since you can get it for the half! Longevity 12 hours Projection good for 5 hours Scent 9/10

Amouage incense-based fragrace for all seasons? Yes please! This is a wonderful use of their legendary incense backbone paired up with some pepper, as we have seen before, and tobacco. They sweetened it up a little with the Tonka Bean and it lightens it up enough to run it in all seasons. I see many people claiming that its just not what it used to be, and I am wondering if they even compared. I secured a fresh batch 10ml decant and a 2ml decant from 2015. I ran the fresh one first and loved it! I only applied 3 sprays and had moderate projection for about 5 hours, even 2 of those hours in the gym, and then took a shower. I was super stoked to wear the supposed even better OG batch this evening to work. I was let down by the performance. I applied an entire ml and its barely coming off the skin. The blend seems to be a little better and the amber/tonka bean is more prominent, but who cares if you can barely smell it. Do yourself a favor and just get a new batch. 8.25

Smells woody and spicy but the dry type of spices. Stars off with a burst of nutmeg and fresh peppers specially Sichuan( it smells fresh a bit citric and aromatic, its different than black/pink pepper for example). There are ambroxan like molecules and woody materials in it too, it's kind of airy and transparent. There is neroli listed here but i get a faint hedione like scent so this is not really "floral". The tobacco is an accord, the dry and bitter type of accord instead of the damp or cherry like tobaccos. Everything is in a harmony, harmony of woods and dryness. It's very wearable imo since the modern amberwoody materials (to my nose iso e super, norlimbanol, cashmeran, sandalwood like materials) are overdosed here and the eastern spicy feel of amouage takes a back seat, and its a fresh kind of spice feel and that helps alot. Also I don't get a resinous feel here, but more like a faint incense accord that is also airy and dry.

The more I wear Journey Man, the more I appreciate it. It's such a strong, robust, spicy, leathery and earthy concoction. Yet, it has a certain arid, airy quality to it, which makes it wearable even in an office environment (on the condition you go easy on the trigger). Admittedly, the cardamom note in Journey Man carries a subtle, body-odor-like nuance (as cardamom often does), which I suspect is the fragrance's most polarizing facet. To me, however, this quality adds a raw, carnal edge, imbuing the scent with sensuality. Unfortunately, Journey Man is yet another victim of an atrocious reformulation. The recent batches can hardly be recoginzed as the same fragrance as the 2014-2015 batches I have the pleasure to own. Watered down to oblivion. Poor longetivity, poor projection. Doesn't have the oomph. In case you're considering to buy Journey Man, make yourself a favor and take the time to track down an older bottle.

This beautiful uplifting, clean, citrusy, spicy and deep earthy juice just keeps proving to me that Amouage doesn’t miss. My 5th bottle from this house and granted I’ve tested a fair amount from them but Journeyman has ignited something in me. Open and airy but with so much depth that it will definitely take you on a journey (hence the name). Now for performance, I have some bottles for reference to compare for performance and this isn’t a “beast” by any means but just because it’s maybe not what it used to be (never tried pre-formulations), doesn’t mean it doesn’t perform great. Just remember that you’re wearing a fragrance to be smelt, if you’re basing performance off of 2-3 sprays then I’m sorry but 95% of frags are going to take more than that. This is a beautiful fragrance in every sense and blended masterfully. Regardless, always sample before, no matter what!! All love here and have a great day 🙏🏽

Amouage is my No.1 perfume brand but I didn't give most of the Chong era Amouages a chance because they are too challenging for me. Yesterday I saw Journey on 50% discount and tried the tester (not the 1st time) and I liked it. So I quickly checked it out here and the Amouage website and instantly bought it. It turns out to be a 5-year old October 2020 batch in the old tall box but the bottle has the magnetic cap. I like the freshness of the citruses (bigarade/bitter orange not listed here), soft spices and juniper berries in the opening, and the subtle leather/tobacco laced smokey incense. Not beastly smokey animalic like my Overture, which I still love, and a more tolerable tobacco scent than my Royal Tobacco which I find too strong now, making Journey easy and versatile to wear anytime, any season. I am glad I found this and intend to wear it more regularly than my Reflection Man.

Blind bought this one based on the multiple reviews saying this is similar to interlude man, which I have a dupe of, so I kinda knew the style of perfumery I was in for, and what I get reminded of right off initial few sprays, would be a mix of interlude and Cartier’s,.. Pasha de Cartier parfum. . Got DayuuM,, I’mma Fan of this style perfumery and so this was a blind buy success. If you’re wondering what this is similar to,.. go check out the Cartier at Dillards , ( I imagine they all carry it) and if you like that, I’m fairly confident you’ll like this . I’m giving this a 10/10 for personal preference. Haven’t had it long enough to say more other than people gonna either love it or hate it. I’ll also say that this one to me, seems like it’ll be better smelling in the air rather than right up on it. Forget the haters , be your own judge and jury and wear whatever YOU like!!

Instantly became a favorite when I first sampled it. Purchased a bottle immediately after the sample went dry. For me this is the best in modern masculine scents. Throw back to the old school done in a modern way. I actually was shocked to see this labeled as a "tobacco" scent. Its not the sweet pipe or honeyed tobacco you might expect from pure havanne or Tom Ford. More of the savory or bitter tobacco you would get entering a cigar humidor. This also isn't blind buy safe. In a collection of over 170 bottles this is in my top ten. Great for the office or an elegant night out! The Sichuan pepper, Juniper, Leather, and that Signature Incense that Amouage is known for are the stars of the show here. Will last 10 hours or more on clothes. This fragrance is also far from linear as it evolves as time goes on. A testament to the masterful blend.

All I get is heavy smoke & incense. About 2-3 hours later I get some leather, tobacco & musk. I get no citrus in the top at all. It's an interesting, unique scent. I'll give you that. But certainly not worth the asking price. And most certainly not blind buy worthy. Get a decant to see if this is your gig. It will be alot cheaper. Update: After wearing it today, I get sweet, spicy, fresh pepper, some tobacco, some incense and light smoke. This is a very well made, well blended, well put together frag. And it's very unique. I like it a lot but $200 for 100ml is something to think about. Too bad there aren't any clones. Update #2: This is pure class, pure genius. This is an Arabian Prince in a bottle. A true gentleman's scent. The best part is that no one will smell like this. It's so unique. Wear it with confidence, anytime, anywhere.

This fragrance is spectacular. Extremely well blended and unique. Very versatile, but can be off putting to some, so I’d recommend 1-2 sprays when around people you don’t know or crowded spaces. This reminds be of bleu de Chanel, with less citrus and more spiciness. I think the incense is what brings BdC to mind. The juniper gives this a fresh clean scent which reminds me of a nice gin and tonic. The tobacco note is not the traditional sweet tobacco, rather dry tobacco leaf which adds an element of depth to the smokiness of the incense and spiciness of the Sichuan pepper. This quickly became my signature scent for most occasions, but I stick to something slightly more mass appealing for certain occasions. Not a blind buy by any measure. Get a decant this juice is spendy, but in my opinion full bottle worthy!

I'm a girl who tends to gravitate towards more 'masculine' scents - incense, leather, tobacco, pepper, vetiver, cedar etc - and generally tend to scoff at the concept of gendering perfumes at all. But this is one of maybe 2 or 3 scents that I adore, but actually feel is too 'masculine' for me to pull off. In, like, a reaaaaally good way. It's basically the platonic ideal of sexy and complicated woody, spicy, strong scents. I want to force it upon my boyfriend and then steal every last one of his shirts after he wears it. Several friends and I share a document (oh god, embarrassing, I know) of all the scents we have samples of and my note next to this one is the incredibly astute and analytic observation of "10/10 WOULD BONE ANYONE WEARING THIS," so, there you go.

I was at Harvey Nichols boutique in Dubai last week looking for a great leathery, incense, smoky scent when a girl who was working there came to me and said. Have You tried Journey Man if you not then you should:)! 2 spritzs on each back of my hand and!!! Man this one is gr8, bold, fresh, spicy, sweet and creemy rich pipe tobacoo and pinch of pepper to givit it some kick. Long lasting and it evolves in the process of time and gets better. I truly believe this gonna shine out much more in a cooler weather. Definitely versatile and signature worthy IMO. Journey Man could easily be signature scent during fall/winter at least for me since I live here in Sweden. 5 stars to Amouage for choice of bottle, colore, name and of course the scent itself....

What an absolute masterpiece and here’s why. You first have to look at the two perfumers behind it. I’m generally not the biggest fan of Morillas’ work, but when you combine his technical brilliance with Negrin’s reputation for bold, edgy compositions, you get a truly formidable pairing. It feels like Morillas handled the opening with a bright, fresh burst of citrus laced with pepper, while Negrin sculpted everything that follows. The end result is what I’d call a perfect “dumb reach” fragrance. Effortlessly cool, modern, and yet still grounded. From top to bottom, it’s beautifully constructed. Up close, there’s a slight funk lurking in the background, but in the air? Pure magic. Majestic, even. Or better yet... a truly Majestic Journey.

First Impression I just received my order and this is exactly what I have been craving all along. It reminds me of Roja Parfums Creation E, in that it has a cola, Dr. Pepper, slightly boozy smell to it. It's really nice. It smells like a coca cola cocktail with all the spices. It's quite unique. I got this for less than 140 dollars which is well worth it. I haven't worn it long enough to tell you about the sillage and longevity. I will update soon. Update The sillage and longevity are not what Amouage fragrances are cracked up to be. It's only slightly above average. It lasts for about 6, 7 hours and turns into a skin scent by the 3rd hour. It's disappointing. It is a very new batch. I hope it gets better over time.

I remember talking a walk one day. It was a cool, breezy day where I live in a wooded neighborhood, and the clouds were thin and wispy. Many people were burning oak and birch wood in their fire pits outside, so the neighborhood had the sweet, smokey aroma of burning wood. I put on Amouage Journey for the first time that day, and I just knew it was a masterpiece. Journey works perfectly in 50 to 60 degree F weather. It is spicy due to the Sichuan pepper, and there is a nice smokey sweetness from the incense. There is also an amazing fresh quality to this fragrance, and it makes it quite addicting. This is one of the best fragrances in my collection, and I highly recommend that you try this in the cooler months.

It starts with a beautiful Fizzy lemon with a slightly incense vibe and with the freshness of the Juniper berries. After a few seconds you are delighted with this beautiful mix of spices that blends with the bright opening making you scream wow. it stays very bright and luminous till the 4/5 hr mark where the leather and the tobacco makes an entrance taking the stage for themselves the tobacco here is dark and spicy. It really brings your nose through a journey a beautiful one, a walk in a park and a stop to the spice bazar, in a spring cloudy day, maybe drinking a sparkly lemonade. Performance are superlative. is worth the price tag ? absolutely you won't find anything close to this 10/10.

Best of house. This does not get the recognition it deserves. Extremely unique. Nothing smells like this. The sichuan pepper, tobacco and dry woody cypriol with the slightest sweetness is sheer art. This shines with evening wear but also works with jeans and T-shirt. This is not so much a sensual scent. It's a beautiful scent that says you're masculine, refined and mysterious. This is perhaps my favorite fragrance for fall and winter. Discount price of $150 was acceptable for me. Would never pay retail. Also the presentation, style and quality - box, artwork, and bottle - are the most beautiful I've ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous. This would make a memorable gift.

Have owned 2 bottles and now onto my third, haven't smelt this for over a year. Finally pulled the trigger as I was itching to smell this again. And boy did I miss this juice. Underrated, I use to wear this out quite alot. It can be difficult to pull off but if you love niche fragrances you'll love this. The juniper in here is my favorite part. Probably my favorite Amouage surrounded by Epic, Jubilation, Beach Hut and Reflection 45. This is a solid 9.5/10, only losing half a point because it is not the most versatile fragrance. I really enjoy in the cooler months just wearing this around the house. I really hope they make an extrait, Journey 47! Come on!!

This scent is easiest to figure out yet very elegant wear. Starts with an overpowering blast of heavy pepper mixed with noticeable cardamom. Quickly joined by very fresh GREEN tobacco leaves. Maybe the freshness is enhanced by juniper berries, Iam not an expert but it’s very refreshing and one quickly recovers from the initial peppermania. The main scent profile remains green tobacco leaf elegantly rounded up by smooth leather and mild incense. Dustiness of course is added by nagarmotha. Cypriol here is not overbearing it only adds that mild dustiness to the whole composition. It’s very likeable modern and masculine. I love it and wear very often.

The first 15 minutes can be astringent and slightly offputting especially to a new nose. After the opening, this just keeps getting better and better to me. You must LOVE leather, tobacco, spices and incense. To my nose I get a rich leather like maybe in a brand new Ferrari with top quality Italian leather seats, the best tobacco from Cuba, Sichuan Pepper dancing with luxurious frankincense from the Middle East. Dark, dry, and daring! Fall/Winter night event, formal office, special occasion, or....whenever you want to smell outstanding as a daring gentleman who has exquisite taste! Am I the only one who finds this frag sharing similar DNA to Memo Paris African Leather? Either way, a great fragrance it is! Smoky in a dry down, just as Amouage should be. Spicy and warm but not too aggressive even for 250C summer day. Uplifting and refreshing. Not insulting but not a crowd pleaser as well. For guys in their 30s and up, I dare to say. Should do fine for some evening gatherings or social activities but I'd think twice before spraying this one for a crowded office. All in all, I'm glad I found a 50 ml bottle. It will suffice for a long time. Love it from outside and adore what's inside!

Beautiful cardamom opening, spiced with pepper, juiced by bergamot, and mellowed out by neroli. It gives out strong spicy interlude vibes with a slight touch of woody aspects of reflection. Dry tobacco drydown boosted by the incense and mellowed by tonka bean with musk is what we're here for, the leather note is really silent but it is doing great job at refining the blend into something spectacular. Too bad it doesn't get as much attention as Interlude as in my opinion it is way more wearable and is way easier to pick up. Performance as per Amouage quality control, outstanding.

I like this, it's unique and yet familiar but I can't put my finger on what it reminds me of. Longevity seems to be good but projection is more scent bubble which I don't mind personally, since it's not the type of profile that is a people pleaser. It's not challenging or anything, but it's not mass appealing like what you would get with sweeter fragrances. It's a little similar to jubilation man 25 and fragrances like that, but this has cardamom and a hint of tobacco. This is a fragrance for the older crowd (35+), not a kiddie fragrance at all.

Secret Weapon. There’s a reason I have a 10ml decant of Interlude but a 100ml of Journey. Versatile, almost-year round (probably a no-go in summer), and it won’t wear you. Journey can be piled on for a confident, powerful cloud or given the “two under the shirt” treatment for a subtle, pleasant warmth. Doesn’t have to be dressed up, though if you wear it with a t-shirt and jeans you should at least make sure the shirt is of good quality. When to wear: 1. Excellent for fall and winter. 2. Excellent for sweaters and books and good conversation.

I used to love it... but when I use it today, I couldn't understand why I loved it so much. I think my understanding of beauty has changed after 2 years in between 😅 Most likely the reason is that I couldn't feel very warm to Journey because of perfumes which have similar compositon to Journey (kind of sweet, peppery and incense perfumes) that I tried and got tired of during the year. I guess I shouldn't spray and use perfumes I don't like, anymore. Then I get fed up with other perfumes on the same theme that I love.

@Mrtanaka "...journey also always gave me that Interlude X Jubilation feeling." Perfectly said. I tried Journey and was trying to pinpoint it because it was familiar, but not. After recently sampling Jubilation XXV, I would 100% agree that this is a midpoint between the two. And, in that sense, it seems perfect. Journey Man is not too harsh and incense-y, not to soft and sweet, just a nice hybrid between the two. It's like the Switzerland of men's fragrances. I'd like to know your other top Amouage picks, @Mrtanaka.

Amazing! Sharp orange citrus opening coupled with a prominent ginger and spicy Sichuan pepper. Cardamom and neroli are listed as supporting notes but I find them harder to detect and the incense makes this scent a little smoky. Orange citrus and spices stick around from the opening to the mid. The mid is where a full and bright tobacco leaf note will take center stage. Warm and Masculine, Great for more intimate settings during the colder months. Top 10 All time Tobacco Scents IMO.
