Line 618

The name is a mild irritant. The golden ratio, expressed as φ ≈ 1.618..., becomes by some editorial compression "Line 618" — the first three digits of the infinite decimal expansion of an irrational number, dressed up as a meaningful reference. One could object that in hexadecimal the same constant opens with 9E3, which would make for a rather less marketable name. Still: if the fragrance itself achieves the thing the name gestures at — that proportion which produces an unconscious sense of rightness, of balance undisturbed by any single element — then the conceit earns its place. It very nearly does. Line 618 does not develop in the conventional sense. There is no movement from freshness to florals to woods in orderly procession; instead, several modules present themselves simultaneously, each with both natural and synthetic dimensions, shifting in relative emphasis rather than in character. The effect is closer to Terry Riley's In C than to a sonata — continuous transformation without narrative, a sustained present rather than a story. What arrives first, and disperses earliest, is Omani frankincense — and Omani frankincense is not what one associates with ecclesiastical ceremony. It is citrus-bright, resinous, and clean, with a transparency that reads almost green. The declared pinene is presumably supplementary — natural olibanum already carries considerable terpenic character — and in any case these volatile elements are gone within the first half-hour, whatever the pyramid may claim. The sandalwood accord forms the warmer axis of the composition. The creaminess one might expect is skewed here towards lactonic sweetness — one suspects gamma-undecalactone, or something adjacent — producing a barely-there impression of pineapple and a coconut warmth that is all suggestion and no heaviness. Sandalwood oil is confirmed in the INCI; the house further declares that Australian sandalwood shavings were steeped in the concentrate throughout a six-month maturation period prior to dilution. One is inclined to dismiss this as marketing fancy, but the unusual softness of the opening — the sense of edges already worn smooth before the fragrance has had a chance to develop — does invite the charitable reading. The drier, cooler axis is cedar: two sources declared in the INCI (Juniperus virginiana and Cedrus atlantica), and tetramethyl acetyloctahydronaphthalenes — Iso E Super — doing its usual work of diffusion and projection. The house further notes that the sugarcane alcohol used for dilution was aged in lightly charred French oak barrels — making it, in effect, a rum añejo — and one occasionally detects a faintly whisky-ish dryness that may plausibly be traced to this source. Iso E Super is also notorious for inducing olfactory adaptation: the brain, classifying it as familiar background rather than foreground, quietly stops registering it. One may then conclude the fragrance has poor longevity, reapply generously, and alarm everyone within two metres. On second testing, worn on the wrist alone and kept at a civilised distance from the nose, longevity proved extraordinary — detectable, with some residual projection, after twenty-four hours. A leather accord completes the picture: coumarin, Ebanol, and beta-caryophyllene alongside patchouli oil, yielding something between a good jacket and a new pair of shoes. The overall impression is of seamless, undemonstrative luxury — the kind that does not announce itself but reveals itself by degrees, like well-made clothing whose quality is in the stitching rather than the label. The Fragrantica consensus holds that this smells cheap and unworthy of its price. That consensus, one suspects, belongs to people expecting the fragrance to shout. It does not shout. It settles. There is a quality to it that one might call, at some risk of sentimentality, consoling. The name, in the end, is apt enough. EN Line 618 is, to me, a true creative revelation. There is something both strange and beautiful about it: at first it feels bright, resinous, almost sharp, and then it gradually becomes softer, creamier, woodier. I find this contrast completely irresistible. These are exactly the kinds of fragrances that captivate me the most, because they do not follow an obvious path. At first glance, its notes may seem like an utterly mad combination. But on skin, that “madness” smells astonishingly refined. Line 618 feels absolutely magnetic — modern, expressive, with tremendous character, yet at the same time perfectly balanced and controlled. It does not try to be easy or generically pleasant, and that is precisely what I value in it. It wins me over because it seduces without ever becoming crude. It has a face, a signature, a genuine individuality. And when a fragrance has true individuality, that is already a treasure. _______ IT Line 618 è, per me, una vera illuminazione creativa. Ha qualcosa di insieme strano e bellissimo: all’inizio appare luminoso, resinoso, quasi pungente, poi gradualmente diventa più morbido, più cremoso, più legnoso. Questo contrasto lo trovo assolutamente irresistibile. Sono proprio questi i profumi che mi conquistano di più, perché non seguono una strada ovvia. A un primo sguardo, le sue note possono sembrare una combinazione quasi folle. Ma sulla pelle questa “follia” suona in modo sorprendentemente raffinato. Line 618 mi sembra un profumo assolutamente magnetico: moderno, espressivo, con un carattere fortissimo e allo stesso tempo perfettamente equilibrato e controllato. Non cerca di essere facile o banalmente piacevole, ed è proprio questo che apprezzo in lui. Conquista perché seduce senza mai diventare grossolano. Ha un volto, una firma, una vera individualità. E quando un profumo possiede una vera individualità, è già un tesoro.

Line 618 is my favourite from The Essences collect as it’s the easiest to wear and minimalist. Don’t expect the usual Amouage audacious power of creation, expect understated minimalist old money, which doesn’t have to shout to be heard. It smells like plaster of Paris or kaolin from a face mask that’s beginning to dry and crack with subtle florals. It’s a powdery but dry pineapple with a white powder (calcium sulfate hemihydrate) type of scent. The pineapple/coconut combination is not a tropical Piña Colada type, it’s a coconut crème that’s been left open and allowed to dry-up and become chalky with dried slices of unsugared pineapple. It’s the perfect your-skin-but-better without having the usual piercing aroma-chemicals. It reminds me of a cross between Azrak and/or Jubilee from BTV with a softer Concrete from CDG. Line 618 is a beautiful and effortless fragrance that’s tremendous enough to be a signature scent. The ultra high cost is the only consideration but, it’s so good that I going to have to save.

Line 618 is also a beautiful release. I picked it up in October during its limited release at Dubai Duty Free. It opens with a fruity start, clearly layered with the unmistakable Amouage signature frankincense. As it develops, it shifts into a more lactonic fruity profile and stays in that direction. In the dry down, it becomes leathery while still maintaining a smooth, creamy lactonic feel. In terms of performance, it comes second after Sequence for longevity, with good projection that carries well without being overwhelming. Overall, a very refined and distinctive scent, and a worthy second place in the latest releases

For some reason, this blend gives me a bit of a musky vibe despite not having any musk in it. It smells very clean and is SUPER easy to wear, one of the easiest Amouage's up to date to wear. The notes are very deceptive as the end product gives an almost soapy vibe, though it's very pleasing, soapy vibe. Very inviting and not "in your face" type of fragrance. Approved, although I don't think it belongs within the Essences collection price range. It feels that every release in Essences line is a downgrade compared to the outstanding Outlands. It's still a good fragrance on its own, but it should be priced a bit lower.

I finally understand what "second skin" means in fragrance. I am blown away by this; my partner and I came across Amouage while I was on the hunt for the last bottle of Creed's White Flowers. I had heard of Amouage in passing, but dismissed it as a brand that had a silage of 20+ ft. But WOW is this something...! It's intimate, unique, and the dry down is otherwordly. It's warm without being too woody/oudy, milky without being sweet. The pepper and pine give it a lift that prevents it from being too heavy. This is the most unique fragrance I have every experienced. I enjoy smelling it on my partners skin.

Reading the reviews, I almost feel like I am smelling an entirely different fragrance than the negative reviewers are. I am torn between loving it and just liking it, because it is not my usual vibe, but I am enjoying it quite a bit. I get fruity coconut milk, with pine and sandalwood in a cocktail. The resins and earthiness are lingering there in the background. There is a lot of complexity throughout the many hours on my skin, just the ratio of what is dominant changes. I wear this anywhere, any time and find myself sniffing my wrists throughout the day.

i wanted to hated this and initially i did but only in the context of Amouage this seems like a weakling. objectively it is an incredible creation. weakest Amouage is essentially better than anything outhere.

It's a great and versatile perfume. This one could be the first bottle for anyone looking to collect just one bottle from Amouage. This is one of a very long lasting perfume that doesn't shout too loud.

milky, sweet and beautiful could be named Dirty Milk

A pampered pina colada with resinous tropical intent. Line 618 is extremely well crafted, opening with concentrated pineapple and plum supported by opulent frankincense. This soon gives way to a creamy coconut, that smells like a craft cocktail at an award winning bar, on a table of fresh pine and woody notes. It is both resinous and fresh, almost like spraying a luxury fragrance on glistening sun-lotioned skinned. It is truly unique and a break away from other summer fragrances. The only drawback for me is that it slowly starts cloying on my skin in really hot temperatures.

I finally got to try this yesterday and is the most Amouagey smelling among the 3. The listed notes of pineapple, peach, plum, Hojari incense and coconut milk got me mouth-wateringly excited until yesterday. It doesn't smell bad but it is very soft and the fruits supressed. I expected an Amouage pina colada but in the end only the incence, milky coconut and leather were left on the test strip. I already own Sequence full bottle since January but only smelled Remain yesterday. I still prefer Sequence, then Remain. This is my least liked among the 3.

This actually started to grow on me when I wore it on skin. At first, it wasn’t something that stood enough to warrant the ocie tag as it’s a somewhat redundant frankincense / amber/ warm spicy fragrance. However, the longevity behind it as well as the blend of fruits which tones down the warm spicy started to appeal to me. I don’t have much Amouge’s but if I was to compare it to Outlands, it is its introverted and grounded cousin with a touch of flare. I may buy a full bottle one day.

This is a great blend of warm woody and clean fruity. You immediately get the coconut and pine notes as well as a little bit of fruity notes mostly plumb. On dry down you still get a tad of sweetness but it becomes mostly woody with a strong pine note. It’s definitely lighter than other similar dna amouage frags but also unique in its own way.

This is a like for me, but I will say it’s very similar to Amouage Decision. Line 618 starts briefly bright with a small amount of coconut, and then straight to frankincense! And that’s it, longevity is around 6-7 hours. So for me Decision is a better and stronger choice, that last all day, and gets compliments:)

This is decent. It has that Dior Homme makeup aisle lipstick vibe that really leans things to feminine. Its got a lot more going on with it though compared to something like DH, and it can be run in all seasons. The performance is excellent, but its not my vibe. Im glad that I stuck to 2ml. 7.75

Incensey milk, with some subtle fruitiness and spices, tied for my least favorite of the essences with Reasons and Reception. 7/10, decent performance but nothing crazy.

Pineapple, coconut, peach and plum in an Amouage. Plus Hojari frankincense. Can't wait to try it!

I went to sample Line 618 today and the other two new scents with one thought in mind: How much of the criticism towards Amouage’s post Christopher Chong era is justified? Has Amouage really become boring? Or are the critics contrarians hating on anything that has become mainstream? Line 618 interested me the most because I’ve always wanted Amouage to do coconut. The scent turned out to be exactly what I expected when reading the notes; creamy and fruity, but with the classic Amouage frankincense touch. It’s quite milky. I’m not sure I got black pepper much. The scent profile has been done over and over again, but the quality of the notes here is top-notch as expected from the house. The scent is arguably one of the best in its category, but it is not what I was hoping for. I think the ladies who like such scent profile might enjoy this one. Think of Kilian’s Moonlight in Heaven, but denser, richer, and oriental leaning. Doubters, I’m on your side here. Bummer, I didn’t want to be. Line 618, as well as Sequence & Remain, are indeed very safe scents by Amouage standards. It is harsh, though, to draw a conclusion just based on these 3 scents. Some of the releases under Salmon are actually quite bold. If Guidance didn’t convince you, pay the Library Collection a visit if you haven’t already. Silver Oud and King Blue, in particular, are as daring as it gets with the later being my favorite from the line. Royal Tobacco needs no praise from me. All in all, I was disappointed with this scent, but I’m still gonna be optimistic for future releases, perhaps more cautiously.
