I continue my journey through the house of Amouage with Lustre, moving further into a brand that consistently explores depth, texture, and resinous structure. After experiencing the incense precision of Purpose 50 and the balsamic warmth of Reasons, expectations are firmly rooted in richness and compositional weight. Lustre, by name alone, suggests glow and radiance, yet the note structure hints at something darker beneath the surface, woods and resins layered with deliberate density. With Amouage, luminosity often emerges not from brightness, but from contrast and shadow. Let’s see whether Lustre earns its shine through refinement, or through the darkness it chooses to embrace. Opening: The opening is resinous, warm, and woody. The primary notes I get are myrrh, cypriol, cardamom, and labdanum, with myrrh and cypriol clearly establishing the foundation. The myrrh arrives first with a dense, balsamic richness, resinous and slightly sweet, immediately giving the composition depth and gravity. It feels rounded yet substantial, setting a warm and shadowed tone from the outset. Cypriol quickly follows and shifts the profile darker, introducing a dry, earthy woodiness that carries an unmistakable animalic edge. There is an almost barnyard, oud-like quality to it, dark and textured, which initially suggests the presence of a dedicated oud note even though none is listed. Labdanum reinforces this impression, adding a leathery, resinous density that works in tandem with the cypriol to build that animalic, oud-adjacent character. The effect is layered and convincing rather than sharp or synthetic. Lastly, cardamom cuts through the density with an aromatic, camphorous coolness, adding lift and contrast to the darker resins without diminishing their presence. In the background, styrax contributes a subtly sweet, smoky, almost tar-like nuance that deepens the shadow and enhances the illusion of oud. Together, these elements create an opening that is bold, resin-heavy, and unapologetically dark from the beginning Dry Down: The dry down is balsamic, woody, and powdery. The primary notes I get are myrrh, sandalwood, benzoin, and orris, with myrrh and sandalwood now clearly at the forefront. The myrrh retains its deep, resinous character from the opening, but without the intensity of the cypriol competing for space, its balsamic warmth becomes more apparent and more refined. It feels smoother and more cohesive, carrying a steady, ambered richness rather than the darker, animalic tension from earlier. Sandalwood rises prominently alongside it, introducing a substantial dose of creamy woodiness that softens the composition and gives it polish. The wood feels rounded and velvety rather than dry, providing a stable core beneath the resins. Benzoin emerges to reinforce the warmth with a sweeter, vanillic, almost honeyed glow, adding smoothness and subtle sweetness without pushing the fragrance into overtly gourmand territory. Finally, orris completes the transformation with a persistent, earthy powderiness that overlays the woods and resins with a sophisticated softness. The absence of the earlier oud-like accord creates a noticeable shift in tone, resulting in a dry down that feels lighter in texture yet still grounded in depth, marking a clear and substantive evolution from the opening. Performance: Projection is very strong from the outset, easily filling a room within the first hour and establishing a commanding presence. The scent trail mirrors that intensity, leaving a dense and noticeable wake that reflects the fragrance’s resin-heavy structure. After a few hours, performance remains largely unchanged, maintaining both reach and impact without a meaningful drop in strength. Around the seven to eight hour mark, projection begins to settle slightly, hovering at roughly four to five feet, while the trail softens but remains clearly perceptible. The fragrance continues to persist past the twelve hour mark before gradually fading into a skin scent. Overall, Lustre delivers impressive longevity with assertive projection that supports its dark and resinous profile. When to Wear: Lustre is firmly positioned as a fall and winter fragrance, where its balsamic depth and resinous woods can fully unfold in cooler air. It feels most at home in the evening, when its darker character and polished warmth align naturally with more formal settings. The richness of the resins and creamy woods make it particularly well suited for special occasions, formal gatherings, or any environment that calls for a composed and elevated presence. It carries weight and intention rather than ease, making it less appropriate for casual daytime wear. Likewise, its density and animalic undertones would feel out of place in an office setting where discretion is key. This is a fragrance meant for deliberate wear, best reserved for moments that match its depth and refinement. Blind Buy: Lustre is not a safe blind buy. Between its relatively high price point and its bold, animalic opening, this is a fragrance that really needs to be experienced before purchase. The initial resinous density and oud-like facets can be challenging for many, especially those who favor lighter or more transparent woods. While the composition is well executed and rich in character, the scent profile is far from universally approachable. Sampling is strongly recommended to ensure the blend resonates with your personal preferences before committing to a full bottle. Final Verdict: Lustre was a thoroughly compelling experience from start to finish. The dark, animalic, resin-heavy opening makes an immediate statement, projecting confidence and presence with a bold, masculine edge before gradually transforming into a smoother, richer, and more polished dry down. That contrast is one of its greatest strengths. The shift from shadowed intensity to creamy balsamic warmth gives the fragrance dimension and makes the name feel intentional, as if the glow of the dry down is the true lustre revealed after the darkness settles. Performance is equally impressive, delivering the strength and longevity that complement its assertive character. Among the Essences line, this stands out to me as the most complete and satisfying offering I have experienced, even surpassing the much-hyped Outlands in overall cohesion and impact. While it carries the expected Amouage price weight, the quality and transformation justify serious consideration. I can confidently see Lustre earning a place in my collection when the time feels right. I don't know if you are familiar with me. I feel like I have been reviewing fragrances for decades now. I am saying this because I want to stress how frequently I go through new samples. Already today I have sampled three brand new fragrances. It's one of the things I can do by myself aside from the actual putting the fragrance on my skin part. So I cherish this process. I really enjoy figuring a fragrance out and expressing my viewpoint. I want you all to also know I do thorough research beforehand. I know what you are all saying and I take everything into consideration. I also can tell you I have good judgment about who is thoughtfully and responsibly writing a review and who is bitching and moaning. I'm not going to write “for lack of a better phrase” because I think that is an appropriate phrase for what we are discussing here. We are reviewing top tier luxury items. If you want to bitch about the high price, I recommend you don't dabble in one of the best and most expensive fragrance houses in the entire world. On top of that, these essences are bespoke, Limited, and done so on purpose much like that of a winery from Napa Valley. They become exclusive pieces. To be brought out and worn on special occasions and or celebrations. As with anything else, the product has to match the quality and prestige in order for it to maintain its exclusivity. This brings me back to my initial statement. I try different fragrances every single day. Different sample sets and individual fragrances I have chosen to test. They are hit and miss. Some are better than others. I have realized throughout the past couple of weeks I have been craving Lustre. As well as Reasons and Outlands. I decided to wear Lustre for the second time this afternoon and I'm very happy I did. There's something about this collection that's really really good. Perhaps it's the aging process. Maybe it's the method. It can't simply be the construction. There's magic going on somewhere and it's difficult to explain. I certainly would say try it out when it's very cold and very rainy. Perfect autumn winter set of fragrances. This one particularly. All of the little gerbils out there who don't know what they're talking about, I would ignore them. If you are not a fan of this house to begin with, this is not going to magically change your mind. If you Are a fan, you are going to fall in love even further. I have. And I almost wish I didn't because they are indeed a very expensive set of fragrances. For those of you who watch Sebastian religiously like I do, Outlands can be considered the best, and at first I agreed, but now it's hard for me to judge. Outlands is the most refreshing, Reasons is the creamiest. So what makes Lustre? Maybe it is the sandalwood we all wish our other sandals to be.

Now despite my moaning about how beige the branding of Amouage has seeming become in recent years, this is the jewel in the crown of what is an impressive trio of perfumes. To say Outlands felt like Zarokian doing her signature thing and Reasons was creative and interesting but I didn't connect with it, Lustre is magic right off the bat! For me it opens with a powdery rose/iris, outrageous pastel pink and fluffy but with masses of substance and character, quintessential Amouage character too, because you can smell the twinkle of resins which underlie this perfume before turning into a sensual warm woody, balsamic affair. There's a classiness to this perfume, befitting it's price. No actually scratch that, someone told me they're £750 or something? Fuck off Amouage!!!! Where there's a heavy use of resins to create rich, deep perfumes with a stratifying heft, less can be more, and can make for diffuse, delicate and powdery smells which for me is when resin is actually utilised to open up a composition rather than weight it down or to use a cooking term 'thicken' it. This application smells like resins which do just this, such as benzoin, styrax, tolu balm etc... which have sweet, spiced facets and show the real deft hand of the perfumer (or in this case perfumers) to create something so robust yet fragile. The most heady of the lot is labdanum and it's use in here is prominent, certainly in the heart with the Ambrarome material really coming to the forefront as it dries down. I usually don't like Ambraome but I can actually smell it in here and it stops short of that awful off note I get from it, again another display of the perfumers getting it right. I adore this, really good perfume. My pick of what I've already conceded to be a strong trio from the brand. Update 19/12/24 Okay so wearing this was a little different of an experience to spraying on a card and my arm. I still love it, but it's worth noting that it immediately became a big labdamic, cuddly, base heavy perfume and much of the top note detail (that sort of powdery, lightly floral aspect) which had been so dominanant in the opening 30min to an hour on a card and initially on my wrist, seems to be far less prominent on my neck and clothes etc... perhaps my perception changed having smelled it a couple of times? dunno? it's still a delight though and still probably just edging first place out of this collection but it's seemingly more simplistic now than the other two.

Lustre is pure Sandalwood, Spicy, creamy & Silky, a state-of-the-art sculpture made of Beige marble. This is a scent that acts as a Sandalwood Attar. Julien and Paul teamed up, and their decision was to use Sandalwood as the core, which acts as an oil, placing it as the pillar of the profile, which is smoothed with a beautiful creamy amber and some Myrr and Cardamom; however, the spices aren't frontal, they are used as functionally as possible to allow the Myrr to shine. I love the way the opening was formulated, because its ruff on the spices and has a backbone of the stink of the amber and myrr, is little off putting, but i like it as mixes very well in the coposition, and even thught starts like that is as smooth as it gets later, still keeping a punch of spices as a misty fog, wizard stuff, and clearly showing some very high-level skills, it looks simple, but clearly isn't. That is the beginning, the magic happens in the middle, the development, and the Drydown. The middle part of the scent is probably the creamiest fragrance I have ever tried of a spicy sandalwood combo, which uses wood-amber. It evolves into a very complicated scent to describe, because it is pure class in using Sandalwood, Myrr, and mixing the Ambers in the correct way, allowing it to become this "oil" of some sort that is visually exactly like the sandalwood image of the Amouage campaign. The twist here is that it is creamy, thanks to the Orris. Imagine a very fluffy "cappuccino" like cream, but with the core of sandalwood and amber + spices, i know it sounds weird, but this is the image that I have. It's basically an Attar that is acting like a scent. The 6 months of maceration give away the secret and the reason for this statement of mine. Is quite overpriced, but I doubt other scents come close to this, so somehow it came to be justified. Is not a perfume you find every day, it is a unique scent, and it belongs beautifully in the Amouage Essence collection. If you are a fan of something creamy, spicy, and at the same time woody and resinous, this is it. Simplifying I can describe it as a oriental warm milky-tea with spices, but all created with Sandalwood. To me the only worthy work of the latest Amouage.

So I’m going to assume a lot of the hate here has to do with the high retail price of $450 and the gimmicky at best double infusion method. Does this infusion make the scent any better than any other Rasquinet creation? My mind has been changed to yes after more wearings. You might notice a common thread or two with Aquila Absolute, The Moon and other of his masterpieces. That said, the ambrarome is what at first realky ruined this one for me. It’s overbearing in its use and reminds me of the nuclear use of Amber Extreme in Enclave by Julien (ruins the fragrance for me). It mellows a lot with maceration and you’re left with a combo of Amber/sandalwood/cardamom that is honestly different than stuff I’ve smelled before. There are certainly aspects of other Rasqinuet creations here but I completely have changed my mind and can’t stop wearing this one. Is this groundbreaking? Maybe... Does it smell good? Hell yes it does with the caveat that if you struggle with ambrarome you need to let the macerate. Julien is one of the best at using these high impact aroma chemicals with naturals and it’s successful here. I don’t really get any iris beyond a slight powdery vibe at time. It’s almost entirely a base note fragrance. I mostly get the Ambrarome, sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla and cardamom. Scent 9/10 - solid but nothing new here Longevity 10/10 - ambrarome loves my skin Sillage 10/10 - again Ambrarome is a monster on skin Value for money 8/10 - this is with the perfumers batch too New bottle 8/10 - I personally love everything but it being refillable. Makes second hand market likely to be filled with tons of fakes... I will edit and update as I have more time and wearings. Edit 11/26/24 - my mind has completely changed. There’s something about the sandalwood here that’s unlike anything I’ve smelled before. I cannot stop wearing this one lately...

Personal: 9/10 - This is such a nice, sweet, spicy, beautiful fragrance. I love it. Mass appeal: 7/10 - Most people will find this pleasant but the spiciness is divisive. Performance: 8/10 - This fragrance sticks around for a nice little while. Value: 6/10 - Despite being so expensive, it's honestly worth it. Uniqueness: 8/10 - Very unique blend of spices, unlike anything else I've smelled. SCORE: 76/100 Full bottle buy? YES, very unique and pleasant. I thoroughly enjoy it, despite the price. Blind buy? NO, for the price and given the polarizing spiciness, buy a tester. Recommend? YES, anyone who enjoys warm spices and woody amber would love it. Date night? YES, but don't overspray. It's strong and a bit polarizing, but it's great to me. Office safe? NO, it's a bit too spicy to really be safe for tight quarters. Pros: A very unique, spicy, sweet, and cozy winter fragrance. Great performance. High quality. Cons: Expensive. Bottle design is boring. Fragrance could be very polarizing due to spiciness. This is one of the most unexpectedly pleasant fragrances I've smelled. It opens with a bright blast of warm spiciness, and then it's immediately calmed by amber and woods. It's expensive but very high quality, and I'm amazed at how wearable it is. It's very strong with great performance, so beware with the number of sprays, but I absolutely love this fragrance. It's not quite the standard 'masterpiece', but it's surprisingly smooth despite being dominantly woody and spicy. Kind of dusty smelling with tons of very natural smelling woods. And lots, and lots, of spices. It could definitely be one of my future favorites, and I will absolutely wear it again. *Review #15 in my fragrance journey - this fragrance I own as a decant*

A beautiful scent, starts off with sandal wood notes, sweet myrrh ,orris root notes and a bit of cardamom. The orris note combined with cypriol and patchouly gives the scent an earthy slightly smokey-green yet smooth and creamy feel. As it dries down the myrrh, labdanum and ambrarome give the scent a beautiful ambery warmth thats slightly animalic and lovely, the sandalwood notes and cypriol are still present here and the combination with other ambery notes creates a warm and smooth fuzzy feel that is lovely. late dry down is resinous, ambery, slightly vanillic. performance and longevity is amazing. شروع زیبا از نوت ریشه زنبق، مر شیرین و شرقی،چوب صندل کره ای و نرم و مقدار بسیار ناچیزی از هل. ترکیب نوت سیپریول(خاکی، چوبی، دودی، کمی سبز) ،نعناع هندی(سبز، خا‌کی، کمی مشکی، ملایم تر ار سیپریول ) و حس خاکی و کره ای ریشه زنبق یه عطر حس کمی دودی و خاکی و کمی سبز میدن که در عین حال حس نرم زنبق همراهشون میکنه . هر چقدر عطر روی پوست بمونه عطر حس کمی چرمی و انیمالیک فوق العاده زیبایی رو ایجاد میکنه(بخاطر امبراروم که لابدانوم تبدیل شدست و همچنین نوت لابدانوم) که ترکیبشون با نوت صندل کره ای و نرم و همچنین نوت های خاکی برای و همچنین صمغ مر یه حس فوق العاده ای رو میسازه که برای من یاد آور طبیعته و هم گرمای جالبی رو تو رایحه بوجود میاره. نوت های شیرین تر استایرکس، وانیل و مر هم به سایر نوت ها در ساعات پایانی اضافه میشن و رایحه رو در ساعات پایانی(ساعات ده تا بیست و چهارم) کمی شیرین تر میکنن اما اون حس سبز، خاکی و چوبی هنوز هم که هنوزه پا برجاست. ماندگاری این عطر حد اقل ۲۴ ساعت روی پوسته با پخش بوی بالا. تستش برای دوست داران ریشه زنبق(که کاملا متفاوت از زنبق آرایشی و دیزاینری هست)، لابدانوم، طبیعت مانند و چوبی و خاکی به شدت پیشنهاد میشه.

This scent on my skin opens up mainly with Cardamom and Orris with some sandalwood behind both of them, as it starts to enter the mid I start to get patchouli and cedarwood which makes a pleasant woody base, that is still complimented by the notes from the opening, albeit a little understated, and finally the far dry down and main part of this fragrance, is a Vannilic, Resinous woody scent profile with Cypriol and other ambers in the back. Good for colder seasons and days, I can see this being good for casual and formal occasions bit it may be a little strong for the latter, on the topic of that, I get strong projection for the first 3 hours or so, then it becomes a medium projecting fragrance, lasts around 9 hours on my skin. Overall it's tied with Outlands for being my favourite from the Essence Line, but purely due to my love of Iris/Orris, I'll bump this up slightly higher, do be warned though as with all 3 of the current Essence fragrances, even if they're nice they're vastly overpriced even for Amouage standards, so I heavily advise waiting until you can either sample or test in store. Firm 8.3/10 for me

I'm still a total novice when it comes to Amouage, with the only other bottles in my collection are Search and Beach Hut Man. I tried out the Essences at the local Nordstroms, and took back samples to see how they turn out. Out of the three, I did like Outlands the best, but good luck finding that one anywhere that isn't full price. Lustre was certainly my second favorite. What got me to buy the full bottle was when I sprayed the sample onto a testing strip, I could still smell this very beautiful natural woods even 3 days later. On paper and on clothes, this fragrance is significantly sweeter. On my skin, I get a much more bitter, smoky woods scent where I can also detect the incense hidden deep within. The transition of this fragrance is just beautiful as it seems to change every hour. Weirdly enough, it seems to get stronger after 1 hour of application, and then it peaks at about 4 hours in. While this is the most expensive bottle out of my entire collection, I have no regrets because it's so pleasant to me.

I don't think it is super complex by Amouage standard. Gets way to much hate because of the branding change. Outlands is more unique smelling but Lustre is still beautiful in its own right. Unique cardamom opening with hints of powdery orris root throughout. If you're off-put by the opening give it time because I was as well and ended up finding it addicting. Dries down to a creamy sandalwood with resins and vanilla. Sillage smells more vanilla. I don't get as much patchouli as I do in Outlands. I get hints of Gris Charnel in this, could be from the orris root. It reminds me of warm desert air as the sun is going down. Smells like the color of the label. I have been reaching for this a lot recently. Smells date night but very easy to wear casually. Good value for money if you can find it on discounters for cheap due to its longevity. Easy 12+ hours. I could see this staining light clothing so be careful.

As of writing this, I own five Amouage fragrances. Each of them is distinct enough from the others to warrant owning. I also sampled first before purchasing any, and I will continue to do so. So do not believe without using your own nose any comments about being too similar to others. If there are fragrances that are similar to your nose, buy the one you like the best. All that being said, this fragrance is very easy to wear in an office space, at a restaurant, on a date, or a special occasion. It is not overpowering nor does it impose its presence on others more than a few feet away. Even though I wear in summer time, I can understand those who would not. It is very complex, and interesting to get whiffs of it for 4+ hours just moving around. And it is still fairly strong on your skin for many more. You are not seeking it out, it is present and the complexity remains.

I am sniffing at this on a strip of paper as I type this. I have Outlands. And it ticks almost all the boxes for me. I have 6 Amouages, and had 2, both old and recent. It is my fav perfume house and love the brand's DNA. Now Lustre. Meander didn't quite work for me. And I cant help but draw similarities between the 2. I love creamy notes like sandalwood and orris in perfumes but prefer fruits to accompany them. At this price I would rather go for something from Roja, Boadicea, Amouage Interlude BI or even additional bottles of Jubilation 40 or King Blue. They should have just saved the trouble and mix this with sandalwood and release it as the successor to Meander...

Obsessed with this scent. I don’t know how people prefer Outlands over this, it’s the shining star of the trio. Too broke to own a full bottle with all the perfumes I’ve been buying lately, so I just have a sample until I can find it at a more reasonable price at a discounter, but from the sample I get rich resiny, spicy woods with a powdery vanilla note. On first spray I was like wtf is this, but the dry down is where it’s at. Perfect for the fall & winter. After wearing it for a while it dawned on me that this reminded me of bit of CK Obsession, which my step dad wore most of my childhood. Lustre is a bit smoother and more powdery but somewhat in the same family.

یه شاهکار دیگه از آمواج.پایه رویال توباکو رو توش حس میکنم البته بسیار نرم و لطیف تر. اون تندی و خشکی تنباکو رو نداره .همچنین من رو یاد متریال از همین برند میندازه البته با شیرینی کمتر و در کل ملایم تر .روایح انیمالیک هم تو این عطر کاملا نمود داره البته نه تند و آزار دهنده.بسیار کنترل شده و به جا. با بوییدنش سفر به بهشت رو میشه تجربه کرد.قطعا که برای دوست داشتنش باید طرفدار سبک و سیاق عطرهای آمواج باشی و گرنه که بهتره اصلا سراغش نری.تنها چیزی که در مورد این عطر دل چرکینم کرد پخش اندک و غیر قابل قبولش هست که از آمواژ بعید به نظر میرسید.عطرهای آمواژ رو من هرگز بیش از یک یا دو پاف پاشش نکردم ولی لاستر رو بیش از پنج تا شش پاف باید پاشش کرد.بازم کم میاره😟

Stunning. There is a hint of spicy sweetness on the opening together with leather (for me, anyway). But no notes overpower or dominate the others. This is a complex masterpiece. The dry-down is quite linear - I can still detect the spicy/woody/amber notes from the initial spray, followed by a mellow vanilla. It is amazingly refined. There is something other-wordly about it (and I’m not just talking about the price). I did purchase a bottle after falling in love with the sample. I have sampled Reasons, but Lustre is the one for me. I have not sampled Outlands yet, but having seen reviews of it, I am a little concerned I might fall for it, too.

Amouage's Lustre by Perfumers Julien Rasquinet and Paul Guerlain is a spicy fragrance that is softened by the Perfumers use of orris. This fragrance is almost creamy and fuzzy simultaneously. I get this fuzzy texture that I usually associate with cardamom. This is a very addictive scent profile and I can't stress enough about the texture of the fragrance. Lustre is certainly a soft fragrance that is spot on unisex in my opinion and the use of resins and vanilla in the base is something I find to be a welcomed addition that makes the scent more alluring. Rasquinet and Guerlain collaborated wonderfully on this fragrance.

Outlands might've gotten the most hype out of the collection but for me Lustre is just amazing. It's not the most ground breaking frag, but it's honestly the best at what it does, the king of resin fragrances. Where it stands out is that despite how strong it is it won't get cloying, so often resinous frags will just smell over powering or easily get cloying, but this just maintains it's depth and richness without ever being too much. It's definitely not as mass appealing but to me it's just soooo sweet and comforting and amazing at what it does.

Funnily enough, my first impression of this, is that it smelled like spaghetti sauce. Like a really fancy and artisan one. But yeah it took me long enough to realize that that's how amber smells like if it's really front and center. It took a minute for the salty mineral facet to show and it's really lovely. I can imagine it being like a really fragrant amber that you would find in the middle of a desert oasis. Not the most wearable, and you will definitely surprise people with this. But as a personal scent I think it's really addictive.

This one immediately smelled luxurious. Bright amber with a refined vetiver freshness that feels incredibly smooth and expensive. The opening has a sparkling quality, almost like bright stars blinking in front of you, with sweet champagne-like nuances that immediately catch your attention. It instantly reminded me of layering Clive Christian Blonde Amber with Jump Up and Kiss Me Hedonistic. It has that same rich, elegant aura without becoming too heavy. Very unisex and beautifully blended. Probably the biggest surprise of this haul

Lustre grew on me significantly from the very first try. The opening with cardamom bomb followed by creamy santal mix with iris creates a comforting and cozy. All the scents are very natural nothing chemical. It’s good but scent profile might not be worth the price tag. But I still happy with this bottle.
