Molook

I've just sampled a tiny drop of Molook and here are some initial thoughts: This is a gorgeous scent that smells almost ancient. To my nose there are three prominent notes in this Attar: Taif rose, (black) Ambergris and Laotian Oud. The Taif rose is bright and green basically, but mixed with the ambergris and oud it smells dark an opulent (a little bit Chopard-like). In the drydown there is some kind of smokyness too. The attar opens up musty and musky like Figment Man from Amouage. The scent is pretty dynamic but changes very smooth and slowly which shows that the ingredients are from a high quality. The minty note in the rose comes actually from the black ambergris whose mustyness makes the rose darker. The Laotian Oud itself is also woody-musky thats why the whole composition appears like a mix between deer musk, rose and patchouly.

At first this scent for me is a big, generous pile of dung in a rosebush. And I mean very big. After a while the boggy smell goes away and the roses get way more interesting, and a very beautiful oud comes to keep them company. And all of that - with a wonderful background made of wild flowers.

As one of fragranticans described such pure aged oud attars - oud funk...:) yep, i do like oud a lot, and it is the most beautifull natural ingredient, but who can go about smelling like Stilton cheese? This is due to quality matured oud, which supposed to be good cause it's so expensive. But is expensive=good??? So, Molook - Attar of Kings, yes, it does settle in to proper lovelly rich oriental smog, eventually. And it stays ages. See, me and my man made a test while in Saudia - those kind of rich scents develop much faster in the heat and dry weather of the dessert. It is meant to be used there and it is much more lovelly there. Here in Europe climate is too soft and poor strong oud like Molook almost suffolkates itself (and everyone else around it - unless you are a true cheese conosseur:)) Shams al Doha and Ayoon al Maja are much easier choises,as they develop faster in those latitudes...

starts off barnyard oud, then the oud mellows and settles and the rose sorta-kinda comes into the picture. the oud then dries down to a chalky, powdery woody-resiney smell. nice enough, but not one of my favourites... worth a sniff...

is the Oud is prominent or the ambergriss ? can it be the dung boggy smell from Ambergriss and not Oud?! how you compare it to Badr al baduor?
