Opus XIV – Royal Tobacco

Getting close to the end of my Amouage journey for now, today I'm reviewing Opus XIV Royal Tobacco. If you have been following my reviews, you'll know it's no secret that tobacco is one of my favorite notes in fragrance; especially if it's done correctly. With a name like Royal Tobacco, and coming from such a renowned house like Amouage, I have high expectations for this fragrance. Let's get into it; Scent: The opening is sweet, spicy, and warm. The primary notes I get are tobacco, licorice, basil, and bergamot. The strongest of the notes are the tobacco and licorice. True to the name of the fragrance, the tobacco leads the charge in the opening with a big blast of sweet and warm pipe tobacco type accord. It's smoky, but not overly so and let's the sweetness and warmth of the natural tobacco shine through. Underneath the tobacco lies the licorice with a sweet and spicy accord, extremely photo-realistic to the smell of actual licorice candy. I can pick out all the nuances of a bag of licorice candy; sweetness, spiciness, stickiness, it's all there. Take the licorice from Dior's Sauvage Elixir, dial it up to 11, and make it more accurate and expensive; that's the licorice you have in Royal Tobacco. Up next is the basil and bergamot. The basil, while heavily obscured by the richness of the tobacco and licorice, is noticeable with a distinct green, aromatic, and herbaceous tone. Lastly, the bergamot lingers in the background with the basil to provide a citrusy, aromatic, and slightly bitter nuance to the opening. The dry down is sweet, warm, and balsamic. The primary notes I get are tobacco, licorice, bourbon vanilla, and myrrh. The strongest of the notes are the tobacco and bourbon vanilla. The tobacco is still very much the star of the show with the same warm, sweet, and smoky accord from the opening. Meanwhile, the vanilla has risen to the top to give the dry down a rich, creamy, gourmand sweetness. This is followed by the licorice and myrrh. The licorice is still present in the dry down with its distinctly sweet and spicy tone, but much more subtle than it was in the opening. Lastly, the myrrh creates a foundation of deep, ambery resins with some additional smoke to help set off the tobacco a bit more. Performance: Projection within the first hour is very strong and can easily fill a room. Sillage matches that intensity with a heavy scent trail. After a few hours the performance was virtually unchanged. When to wear: Royal Tobacco is a fall/winter fragrance best worn in the evening. This is not a casual fragrance in the least, and is best reserved for special or formal occasions. Date nights, anniversaries, weddings, things of that nature. For the same reason, this is not something I'd wear to the office. Unless I was meeting with executives or something and I wanted something to impress, but I'd have to go light for sure. Blind buy: If you like tobacco and/or licorice heavy fragrances like Kilian's Smoking Hot, this is a safe blind buy for you. Just keep in mind its not as smoky as Smoking Hot and leans more into the sweet and spicy aspects of the licorice and vanilla. Final verdict: As I stated in the beginning, I had high expectations for Royal Tobacco. And having had a full experience with it, I can assuredly say that it delivered on those expectations. I've experienced many tobacco fragrances, but only few of them have the quality of tobacco I'm looking for with the perfect balance of tobacco and supporting notes. Royal Tobacco is one of those fragrances. Rich, warm, sweet, smoky; it hits all the marks. When it comes to performance this fragrance delivers. Room filling projection and scent trails for the first few hours, and lasting around 10-11 before fading away. In terms of versatility, Royal Tobacco is not a versatile fragrance. It's made for special occasions in the cooler months, and it does that spectacularly; but that's it. For mass appeal, I put Royal Tobacco in the average column. Some people will love it, some people will think it's too much. I think the scale tips more towards the love it side though, as there's nothing inherently challenging or offensive about the fragrance. To wrap this up, Royal Tobacco is truly a masterpiece in the category of tobacco fragrances, and it's taking a top 5 spot from Smoking Hot on my profile. As much as I love Smoking Hot, this fragrance is just better. I will be getting a full bottle of this, without a doubt. Scent: 10/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 10/10

**A Sovereign Misadventure with Amouage Opus XIV Royal Tobacco** Oh, dear reader, gather 'round for a tale of scented bravado gone gloriously awry! I, Robert, your intrepid fragrance monarch, plunged headlong into the realm of *Amouage Opus XIV Royal Tobacco*, expecting a refined waltz with masculinity. What I got instead was a bombastic carnival—think less courtly minuet, more a cymbal-crashing parade that left my senses reeling and my ego both bruised and bewitched. Picture this: four sprays from a weakly atomized travel decant, a modest gesture, I thought, to christen my day. Within the first hour, **Royal Tobacco** roared to life with the subtlety of a lion in a library. Tobacco, yes—rich, smoky, regal—but laced with saffron’s golden swagger and frankincense’s holy fire, it was as if I’d unleashed a genie who refused to go back in the bottle. The performance? Bombastic doesn’t cover it. By hour two, I was a walking sillage supernova, my presence sniffed and lauded by strangers *ten feet away*—no exaggeration, no hyperbole, just raw, unbridled potency. “Love that scent!” they chirped, while I, dear reader, was plotting an escape to the nearest open field. You see, this fragrance is a gorgeous beast—a masculine masterpiece of tobacco’s velvet depth, oud’s shadowy growl, and amber’s molten caress. But I underestimated its might. My senses screamed for mercy, a headache blooming as the scent overwhelmed me like an overzealous orchestra. I fled outdoors, gulping fresh air to keep from choking myself out. You might think I scorn this scent—quite the contrary! It’s a love affair I wasn’t ready for, like falling for a dragon who breathes fire with every kiss. For comparison, even **Interlude 53**, that titan I doused with four sprays straight from the bottle the other day, didn’t pack this punch. **Royal Tobacco** demands space—a grand hall, a windswept plain—not a cramped office or cozy café. I humbly advise: wear it in a vast arena to let it breathe, lest it strangle you with its splendor. Four sprays were my folly; next time, I’ll wield two, maybe three, and still expect to command the air. In my quest for Amouage’s masculine treasures, **Opus XIV Royal Tobacco** has earned its crown—a scent so potent, so divine, it nearly dethroned my own sovereignty. Proceed with caution, my fellow kings, but proceed you must. **Edit** After 2 hours, the projection literally fell off a cliff, almost as if someone flicked a light switch off. It never dwindled to a mere skin scent, mind you, but drastically receded to a moderate sillage and projection. Wearing it in open air during that initial 2-hour blitz is highly advised—let it roar untamed. After this window, it tames enough to stride indoors, though still quite potent, commanding respect without overwhelming the room.

It's 11:10 PM as of now 04/29/26. I have not received my new bottle just yet, I believe it should arrive Friday. This is a very very good fragrance, let's remain calm that this beauty will never get discontinued. Amouage would never do such a thing like Tom Ford did with Plum Japonais. I will definitely be getting back up bottles. I have smelled this Gem on many occasions, of course it will be the same super addicting potent smell I have got my nose on hundreds of times. I got many colognes. Some great ones when I'm craving sugar. Other's when I want something more fresh, like a good Vetiver centered one. No question Amouagae is one of the best houses. Royal Tobacco is a highly slept on fragrance. I have a good TikTok account good following and my algorithm is always sending me the top videos that reviewers are making with all the latest updates on new releases, some examples are Cal Cologne, I love him, shout out to Fragrance Flan, Noel Smells, and many others I can't remember off the tip of my tongue right now as I'm on the spot. Glad this one is not being hyped like the other ones are like with Imagination, or Byredo, or Blue Talisman, Maison Crivelli, among all the other hyped fragrances. This one should be stay hidden. Will definitely be getting 2 more bottles once the discounters get this one restocked. I cannot run out of this, magical juice. So many different ingredients in this beauty. 26 in total for all the notes. Complexity at it's finest. I love Amouage Overture, but it's not complex enough. You will get sick of it. Not with Royal Tobacco. WOW WOW WOW, this one has it. Just make sure you do not buy from Ebay, do not get anything from China, if for some reason you choose Ebay make sure they have a 100% rating. My memory of smelling this at my local Niche Perfumery Retailer is so vivid. Other ones have blew me away in the past, but not like this one. Blazing Mr Sam blew me away. That opening is, unbelievably good, but it does not surpass Royal Tobacco. Is this a Holy Grail Fragrance? 1,000%

Notes and scent profile aside, this a beautiful testament to artistry in Perfumery, it has so many nuances and little things that all build on eachother to deliver an experience that encapsulates what I think amouage is all about; Artistry, uniqueness, and boldness. It has So many nuances that'd I'd be here all day trying to write them all down and I'd probably get a headache from sniffing my wrist so many times 😂, but as you can imagine from the name, it's a Tobacco centric scent that's backed up by all the other notes from the first spray to the end of the dry down, this tobacco isn't the sweet often Honeyed tobacco you can find in Tobacco Honey by Guerlain, or Xerjoff Naxos, nor is potently ashy like tobaccolor by dior(on my skin), or Mancera Red Tobacco etc. Etc. But I'd say it leans more towards the ashy side, that being said it's not too challenging and I quite like it to be honest, if I had to summarise how the tobacco is done, I'd say It's: Dark, slightly ashy, kind of Resinous, balsamic, and a tinge of sweetness. I don't think I need to comment on sillage and longevity sinxe it's amouage we're talking about... but regardless I get 12+ hours on skin, and I'd imagine clothes it would be borderline eternal, as for projection its strong for a large part of its wearing. Definitely a colder day/month scent for sure, and I wouldn't exactly recommend it for the office 😂, but hey each to their own. I'd say it's for sure an extremely masculine fragrance but that doesn't mean it's off limits for women, if you're a lady that appreciates the scent profile and are confident with it, by all means I think it could suit you. Definitely get a sample oe test in store if you can, as I think listing every nuance would take forever like i said earlier, and you can probably guess as much from the massive list of notes lol. Absolute artistry in a bottle that makes me feel more sophisticated, even I'm just wearing casual clothes, definitely has a masculine aura about it. 9/10 for me

Excellent tobacco fragrance, characterized by the complexity that one expects from Amouage, but easily worth exploring. The top notes listed--of which the anise/licorice, cardamom, and bergamot are most striking to me--open the fragrance nicely but quickly usher in a rich aroma of golden tobacco and smoke. There are also subtle nutty and 'clay pot' elements that I can't quite pin down; but they are definitely there. These individual elements ebb and wane in an olfactory tapestry that changes by the minute. Yet, all of this complexity is anchored to a solid foundation of birch tar, myrrh, benzoin, and lots and lots of tonka (which steadily advances to the fore through the drydown period). Longevity and sillage are robust, as is expected from Amouage. Nonetheless, Opus XIV is surprisingly gentle and comforting. To me, notes of tobacco, smoke, and birch tar don't usually connote an "easy wear" yet here we are. The smoke is not the dense dark smoke of Memoir Man; it's the kind of light residua that lingers on your jacket after a quick puff outdoors. There's lit incense in the room, but it provides only warmth, soft sweet aromatics, and a gentle incandescence. The tobacco and herbs/spices are similarly understated--this is not a VR Spicebomb or TF Tobacco Vanille or even an Amouage Boundless (all of which I love FWIW). In contrast to some of the suggestions in this (somewhat schizotypal) comment section, I don't find the licorice to be oppressive at all (and I'm usually fairly sensitive/averse to it). Nor do I find this to be anything close to resembling an "ashtray". And anyone who smells "chicken bouillon" in this should try removing their finger from their nose before making any further judgments. Is Royal Tobacco a scent for kings? Maybe so, but not on celebration days--that's Jubilation's warrant. Rather, Opus XIV is for lazy evenings when the king is relaxing in his chambers with a pipe by the fireplace. 9/10.

This is an unapologetic, come f*ck me now, male powerhouse. As a woman, I would never wear this (naxos or side effect is about as far as I go), but I would immediately track down the man in the bar who dared to. Speaking of the man who wears this. You are a secret Sultan spy, or perhaps a character from Madmen transported to our modern time. It screams dark and sultry confidence, the maturity and elegance of chocolatey pipe tobacco, with the subtle complexity of licorice, tonka and a suede musk playing in the background. If you smoke cigars (or cigarettes) or drink too much coffee but your lady isn't a fan of the sharp acidic smell that sometimes accompanies those guilty pleasures, this would play very nicely and cover up any unpleasantness. Sooo sexy. Like two powerful strong arms wrapping gently around you. That was my first (and last) impression. Very magnetic. So I sprayed it on my husband to take the fantasy for a real wold spin. The vanilla and amber base came alive on him, and I couldn't stop smelling his neck. Two sprays lasted all day, into the night, and were softly present even the next morning. This baby lasts and lasts, so while Amouage is painfully expensive, I'm going to say this one is likely worth it. My favorite part? I'm not sure if it's the balsam, wood or birch tar (or maybe all three together), but you can't help being reminded of a quiet walk in a snow covered, wintery wood. I got to sample this exceptional work of art thanks to a travelling sample box through our amazing community. What an incredible find. Given my animalistic reaction to it and all the compliments he got, I have no doubt this will be in my hubbie's shopping cart soon. One final important note. Despite my immediate adoration, this one is not a safe blind buy. It may be "too much" for some. (Or maybe they are just not enough.) Either way, it's a must smell. Absolute perfection.

I have been holding off writing a review for this one because I’m a little intimidated by it. I mean it’s such a wonderful creation...who am I to judge? Well I’ll do my best. I bought and tested 12 Amouage frag samples this year and this was my favorite. My wife gave me a full bottle for my birthday back in May. The tobacco/anis combination hits me right at first blast and it lingers for twelve hours...but a lot of change happens in between. You get a big hit of sweet incense that has a playful side. Incense heavy frags can have a somber, introspective, cold feel but this one feels festive, like Im going to get drunk on expensive whiskey, smoke my best cigar, then I’m heading to midnight mass to get some Christmas vibe. I have been surprised by the freshness in the mid that comes from the lavender. You have all of these heavy hitting notes but right there in the middle of the journey is this clean lavender. That’s why i find this so wearable...it’s big, warm, bold but has a very nice touch of lavender freshness to balance everything out. If you just sample this you won’t pick up on the freshness because the fragrance is so heavy note dominant that it takes several wearings to figure it out but over time it has become my favorite part of this fragrance. As far as performance? Massive. Two sprays is more than enough and you will smell it on skin 24 hrs later. I wouldn’t buy this without trying it first. It’s an enormous frag with a huge personality and if it doesn’t suit you you’re going to feel self conscious wearing this thing. I’m 59 and i absolutely adore it, but I’ve been dressing like a grandpa since I was 17 so there is that. The only negative is it’s a one and done fragrance for me....i don’t really need to shop for winter fragrances anymore...I mean I will...but it’s totally unnecessary.

Before coming to write this, for at least 2 hours I thought I'm losing my mind. Thinking this much about yet another Tobacco fragrance, but indeed there was a reason and the reason is the sheer beauty of this magnificent perfume. This has done the unthinkable and has dethroned Tobacco Oud in my fragrance journey.Although Tobacco Oud is still the best Tobacco dominated scent.This has made me rethink my obsession with Tobacco Oud and has relaunched my relationship with Amouage. I'm not a collector mostly because of 2 reasons that for 1 I don't find most of fragrances interesting and secondly you've to come back to some fragrances and have a journey and create distinct experience and memories. Which has happened for me considering how I almost hated Amouage but by experiencing Royal Tobacco it's like a new turn in my journey has shown itself. This is beyond. After almost 20 days I'm speechless with this. The importance of this for me personally has been the fact that this made me comeback to Amouage and eventually actually fall in love with Overture but indeed this is a level up on Tobacco scents. As much as it's weird for me to say it since I love Tobacco scents and this one isn't that Tobacco centered, yet the composition on this will do a push and pull on the Tobacco wrapping of a very well made cigar alongside a collection of other notes that just compliment the whole idea and make a Tobacco fanatic like me rethink how a Tobacco scent must smell like. And that's huge for a fragrance and that is exactly what a fragrance should do, you've to be taken to places that you wouldn't have imagined as you're smelling it and as you comeback to it. This one doesn't paint a picture it jumps around ideas and make you level up. I fucking love that.

If you want a fragrance that smells incredible, opulent, rich, with depth, that gives off a posh, expensive, luxurious vibe, this is the one for you. This fragrance, this DNA that no house on earth has been able to copy, is better than a lot of $1,000 and up fragrances out there such as ones from Roja, Boadicea, or Frederic Malle that have extremely expensive price tags for 100 ML of juice, yes this one beats a lot of them. Long time fan here, have smelled thousands upon thousands of colognes and this is one of the best. Very special one here a true masterpiece a true hidden gem. Really hard to beat this one, the opening is absolutely exquisite, the dry down lasts a long time, sprayed one time, drove for a hour to checkout another high end niche fragrance store and this stuff was still pumping hard off my skin. Getting a bottle delivered soon, will probably get 5 back up bottles of this Heirloom if I can still find a good price on it. This one I have been noticing is starting to sell out everywhere. This is not your casual scent that you might smell at your local Macy's or whatever store you shop at that does not have high end Niche Fragrances. This one is very unique, unlike anything else you probably have smelled if you have not gotten your nose on this Masterpiece before. This DNA/Fragrance should be put in a Museum. This scent is what a Sultan, Czar, Crown Prince, Emperor, or King should wear. Is this release from Amouage S Tier you ask? No, its GOD Tier. Smell 1000/10 Longevity 100/10 Blind Buy safe in my opinion, zero flaws, a perfect fragrance. Really love this juice, it’s phenomenal.

Incredible fragrance and given it's available at the moment for around £170-200 that seems like a bit of a steal. This is not a pure tobacco fragrance - yes, there is a smoky, ashy character to it but that's heavily balanced by vanilla, aniseed, a kinda boozy note on first sniff, and a whole bunch of other things (just look at that list of notes). This has a mature, elegant quality to it, so I would probably say it's not going to be the type of fragrance you wear alongside sportswear or something very casual. Think wool winter coat, cashmere scarf, some nice leather boots, etc. and you've got the type of outfit this will go with. You need to think of this as part of your whole outfit - if you're wearing the wrong thing this is just going to smell weird. People are calling this difficult or unwearable - I disagree - this is probably the most wearable of the Amouages I've tried. It doesn't have the intensity of Interlude or the weird uncanny sweetness of Outlands. I think of it a bit more like a grown-up, sophisticated version of something like Spicebomb. Definitely something for colder months and climates - I wouldn't wear this on a very warm day - perhaps that's where the smokier notes project and that's where some of the "this smells like an ashtray" comments come from, because I don't get that at all in the middle of Autumn in the UK. Not blind-buy appropriate but then what is.

Royal Tobacco is a very sweet amber tobacco with a dry, smoky incense woodiness running through it. There’s a balsamic, chalky nature that gives it more depth and texture. The tobacco is sweet, but that smoky incense really dries it out. The sweetness is still there, it's more of a dry, powdered sweetness that balances perfectly with the smoke. Warm and spicy, with a very powerful and potent character that gives an alluring presence to whoever wears it. Definitely a challenging scent, mainly because of the smoky aspect that dominates the first half. As it dries down, the smoke softens but the balsamic sweetness stays and now is backed with a creamy, vanillic undertone that rounds everything out. The tobacco finally steps forward and becomes more noticeable taking on the main role, blending beautifully with the base. This was my first ever tobacco scent and also my first niche fragrance. I loved it at first sniff, but I don’t think it’s beginner-friendly. It leans more toward a smoky balsamic amber than a tobacco centric fragrance, with the tobacco taking a backseat until the drydown. I’d say this is a great entry-level niche tobacco scent — challenging enough to keep things exciting, but not so polarizing that it pushes everyone away. If you’re into or curious about smoky, amber, and/or tobacco fragrances, this is a great place to start. If not, this might be a bit too much.

As a lover of both tobacco and anise/licorice fragrances, Royal Tobacco instantly became my favorite from Amouage and occupies one of the top spots in my entire collection! I originally got a small decant; I sprayed it on my skin once, immediately fell in love and ran to get my hands on a full bottle. Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille is one of my favorites, but I wanted to find a tobacco fragrance that had a different expression, and man did I find it! Where Tobacco Vanille is a warm, cozy tobacco, Royal Tobacco is on the opposite end of the spectrum — a cold, dark, resinous tobacco with a flash of licorice, tar and pine that drops in and adds a refreshing zing. It's glorious! With regards to longevity, my skin eats up fragrances. No matter the fragrance house, niche, designer, affordable or expensive, most scents (even the ones known for being "beast mode" in the community) become a skin scent or completely disapate on me within 3-4 hrs. Royal Tobacco is no exception. (If it's of interest to anyone, my bottle is from the "I" batch.) If you are a woman that likes darker scents, like I do, don't let the comments touting this as a very masculine scent put you off. I believe this to be squarely in the unisex category (as the house itself claims it to be) and if the notes appeal to you, it's absolutely worth trying a sample.

This fragrance is so strong that I have to put this at the start of my review. If you are not light with this, you will be overpowered. There are batch variations I will also say, but the two I have tried (a sample & a full bottle I own) the difference is not huge, & they are both still masterpieces. The opening to this fragrance is like nothing else, it almost brings me to tears how good it is. So warm & spicy with a slight sweetness punching through; this fragrance is also very dense. The frankincense is there in full force, combined with the anise note & the tobacco note it is just beautiful. The slight basil note adds extra complexity, giving it a slight greenish scent, no doubt to stand in for fresh tobacco leaves. This fragrance is not meant to just be tobacco, it's meant to be a story around it. The growing, harvesting & rolling of the leaves. The workers chewing on some liquorice on their breaks. The natural dense & spicy scent of tobacco leaves. As for the dry down, it is not quite as complex but that makes sense. The spices & sweetness have withdrawn quite a lot, but are still there. The main scent you get in the late dry down is a very woody, smoky, resinous scent. This is my #1 fragrance now, & it will be a challenge to find one better than it. 10/10.

Royal Tobacco is a curious entry in the Library Collection: an aromatic, resinous fragrance that leans more toward licorice than its name suggests. Composed by Cécile Zarokian, it opens with a green, spicy burst of cardamom, anise, elemi, and basil, quickly revealing a dominant licorice root note that persists throughout the wear. While tobacco absolute is listed among the heart notes, current batches seem to downplay its presence, offering instead a sweet, herbal interpretation that feels more like a nod to the idea of tobacco than a full-bodied execution. This shift isn’t necessarily a drawback, at least for those who are not paroxysmally fixated. In fact, the licorice is quite vivid and playful. Despite that, the drydown is rich, with frankincense, birch tar, and assam oud lending a degree of complexity. Vanilla and benzoin soften the edges, creating a warm, enduring resinous base (common to a few other works from Cécile) with good projection and excellent longevity - 12h+ on skin. The 14th entry in the Opus line is not quite in Amouage's platinum tier, but it’s a very good scent: wearable, and distinctive. For those who appreciate herbal sweetness and resinous depth, this is still a worthy addition to the collection, especially when available at discounters.

Royal tobacco, as well as silver oud and king blue was an instant no for me at first, but with time, I have learned to not only appreciate this perfume but also enjoy it. I’m not at the point where I’d want a bottle, but I know that time will come. Cecile is one of the greatest perfumers of all time. Edit one wearing later (one day later): I had a 2ml sample of this and had been spraying it on my wrist every once in a while. But that’s not fair to the perfume to really test it, so I wore about 8 sprays of my sample and finished it off with a full wearing of amouage Royal tobacco. I don’t want to write too much, so I’ll shorten it by saying that this is very very dense, 4 dimensional and contains like 5 different resins. I’m not even familiar with what tobacco smells like, but there’s a dry smokiness from this perfume that I assume is from either tobacco or frankincense. Sweetness from resins and other spices, oriental and unique, blended beautifully with great performance and quality. The opening is a tiny bit overpowering for me, so 9.6/10 for me. Amouage’s library line is my favorite line of perfume in the entire world. I’ll own all of them one day. Also, I want a bottle despite what my og review said. Crazy what Amouage perfume does to you

Silently, we roll Tobacco leaves, their liquourous fragrance weaving into that of Liquorice chewed during the midday break. The day draws on, cigars here and there are lit, a thick plume of smoked oud and vetiver seeps in over the windowsills yet, on the wings of words, el Lector carries our minds to a place of dream, between an herbaceous lavander and clove; between a luscious prunol and a carnal Fenugreek until the night stretches its twilit arms of vanilla Birch Tar and Musks. This fragrance is just like a tail, it brings up your imagination makes you travel on a road of aromas blended together masterfully. Each time I wear this I notice something different, catch another detail or simply dwandle in different thoughts. If this was a poem it would be To a locomotive in Winter by W.W. I immagine hundreds of men working nonstop to build a rail way, rolling cigars in the break and chewing liquorice, I immagine this big train coming by at the end of the season passing through a canion full of prestigious people and workers that want to build a country of freedom dreaming of becoming rich and build a family. This is a quick note to people wondering whether a full bottle is worth it if you love the scent: I went through 2ml of royal tobacco before purchasing a full bottle, but I waited 6 months after finishing the sample before committing to the bottle. I did this because I was worried that I wouldn’t wear it enough for it to be worth dropping $225 on. I’ve had it for a couple weeks now, nearing a month, and I have used probably 3ml of it already which is a lot considering the amount of bottles and samples I own and the bottles and samples I have constantly coming in. The only thing I’ve noticed is that I have been spraying Royal tobacco on tester strips to sit with and enjoy a lot more than full wears. That’s not an issue because I’m still using the perfume, but it’s something interesting that I’ve noticed. I gave Royal tobacco so many wearings with my sample, and since I purchased it, I’ve only given it one full wearing. I don’t regret buying a bottle in the slightest. I still find new aspects of the perfume every time I wear it. It definitely is difficult to wear, but as long as you enjoy it, go for it!

I adore this scent, but it wasn't a "love at first spray" situation - it really took me on a journey and required some patience to wrap my head around what was happening. The opening is licorice-intensive. And if it stayed that way, I'd have tapped out/moved on. But alas it transitions after about 10-15 minutes into something more resinous and floral - the elemi and lavender/rose combo takes center stage, before settling finally and remarkably into an unctious and grounded tobacco incense - warm, strong, masculine, enduring. THIS is what I adore - the journey and the resolution both. IMHO, this is not for younger persons — it would wear like an ill-fitting suit. You gotta have some years on you - some dad strength, some grey showing at the temples, a few defeats under your belt that you've recovered from. Self-assured and self-aware, not searching. Patient enough to know that things will develop and come to you - like Royal Tobacco itself. (Of course, and as ever, wear what you like when you like and to hell with other people's opinions. But that's mine.) For me a 9.5/10.

I’m going to call this the male counterpart of Guidance, aka a masterpiece fragrance! Art in a bottle! Expensive but you can’t really expect perfection coming at a cheap cost... So strong, so bold, daring, dark and intense that feels like a punch to your nostrils in the first few seconds when you smell it for the first time, yet so addictive, complex and intoxicating. Royal Tobacco is not your fresh, honeyed sweet, aromatic, blonde tobacco like Naxos is, this is your resinous, balsamic, liquorice, piney, dark and bitter tobacco. Something that you could wear during the coldest days of the year when you want a fragrance to announce your presence in a room. I will put Royal Tobacco in the beastly/eternal category of perfumes and without forgetting for a second how much it costs, I do believe it’s worth the money. I don’t know if I would purchase a bottle just for myself since it’s quite a manly man kind of perfume because my husband doesn’t like it, believe it or not, but I have to admit that it’s a glorious composition! Amouage, you done it again!! Spectacular..

Just casually sniffing through the scent-drobe. I know I'm not the only one who does it lol. And I get around to this one. And ahh.. how stunning is this fragrance! @HueloBien, I feel you. I've used similar methods and its allowed me to wear "winter" or "cold weather" fragrances great success. Not every fragrance but I've found that a lot of them are more versatile than we think. There is a science to application amount that can open up a whole new world of experience. Plus knowing that there are places in this world that never gets winter cold and yet these are the kind of fragrances they wear. Inspires me even more to set this winter or summer only trope aside. It is approaching summer it was a high of 89° today. Tonight is a breezy 82°. Smelling this made me say..mm hm, oh yeah I can get away a spray or two of this. Testing it out this very moment with one spray to the wrist. It's present without being overwhelming. The scent is intoxicating. So, breezy summer days, evenings/nights, just know in advance that Royal Tobacco will be flowing through your air.

I just tried Amouage's new Royal Tobacco (since it is just available here in my country) and I instantly fell in love with it. It is beautiful from the opening to the drydown. It also has an excellent performance. I love Tobacco fragrances, but this one feels special because of its uniqueness and boldness. Despite the dominant notes being tobacco and vanilla, it does not smell like Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford and all of its dupes and other similar fragrances. It also smells very realistic and smooth, and I really love that character here. That's probably because of the licorice that makes it less "dry" and more zingy (and it adds more dimension to the scent too). Other notes in this fragrance like the olibanum, oud, myrrh, cardamom, and some woodiness have also contributed in making this fragrance more appealing to me. Can't wait to buy it once it's available to get for a much better price online. I think it one of the best, if not the best from Amouage so far. Edit: Royal Tobacco and Boundless are my favourite fragrances from Amouage so far.

Whoever dislikes this fragrance, they are using it the wrong way. This cannot be sprayed more than 3 sprays. Even with only one spray you will get the 10 hrs of longevity. I'm an oversprayer ana I just stop when I feel good to go out, but with Royal Tobacco you just have to limit your sprays as it will chock you out and so the people around you. With just 2-3 sprays you will get everything, likability, confidence, strength, projection, room filling and uniqueness. Yes the opening is not that easy (However I adore it) as it's a bit oudy, ash smoky and lots of fenugreek. After 30 mins, you get almost ice-creamy, smoky, Vanilic and beautiful luxurious billionaire sort of fragrance and the fenugreek is taking a complete step back and become less oudy. One of the best fragrances I have ever smelled but just remember! 1 spray👍 2 sprays 😋 3 sprays 👌 chef's kiss! But this is your limit. Spraying more will make you hate it and it will offensive (from an oversprayer prespective) and trust me the whole room is smelling you! Beautiful Creation

It is complex, interesting, and causes me to sniff my wrists for hours. In short, I love it. It definitely leans more on the incense, balsamic, spice and licorice notes than it does tobacco, but the tobacco is easy to notice. Its like an exceptionally well blended pipe tobacco before lighting it. The sweetness and spicy notes combine into an almost gourmand combination. I do not think I could pull this off on warmer days outside, but I can at my office which has plenty of space and airflow per worker. People always ask about it, because of how interesting it is. (and because they can smell it, lol) I don't think its a suitable date fragrance as it is too loud, and may drive some away instead of drawing them in. Its too grownup for a club, and same for school, sporting events, etc. So where would you wear it? I wear to the office and special events. It has an "I don't need to work, I choose to" vibe. And would be marvelous once retired. IDGAF kinda profile just like fine pipe tobacco.

I make no apologies for saying that the people that vote up gender female and more female for this fragrance must be very special people. This not a people pleaser. It is so different in layers and appreciation. You do not wear this to expect the same reaction to CH Mystery Tobacco or Mancera Red Tobacco, or Dior Tobacolor and expect people to like it. They may be drawn to it, to establish what it really is and this fragrance is in its own category. I absolutely love it, but it's just for me and my opinion means nothing to others. This is extremely special. The only way to explain it is to try it and wear it the whole day. It's not front and centre in my display, but is always there getting stronger and is a treat when I wear it. An absolute treat. When you spend a lot of money on a fragrance and never get let down by it, and you know that you really look forward to wearing it, on the right occasion, it has to be one of the best feelings. This is an absolute divine experience. 8.9/10

Opus XIV – Royal Tobacco by Amouage is a masterful composition that takes you on a rich and emotional olfactory journey. Surrounding this are subtle floral hints—fresh, sweet, and airy—that soften the boldness and add balance. Lavender breathes a crisp clarity into the heart, ensuring the fragrance remains vibrant and alive. Then comes the dry down: a sumptuous fusion of balsamic richness, smooth oud, creamy vanilla, and the unmistakable depth of Amouage’s signature frankincense. It’s luxurious, meditative, and deeply resonant. To my nose, this is an experience. To my mind, this is how perfumes should be made. To my heart, I absolutely love it. Rating: 5/5

Royal Tobacco smells like actual burnt tar/resins, anise/licorice. That's the gist of it. If you're gonna blind-buy it, know you gotta spray it ONCE on your chest or on the back of your neck or hair, and let it hit your nose with the air currents. It will do that for the next 12 hours. If you spray twice, or you sniff it up close, you'll probably ruin the fragrance's reputation with yourself. It's not cologney or perfumey, definitely not a fragrance you use to fish for compliments. It's a headspace scent, something to change up one's mood, and it could do so negatively to other people. Be cognizant of the noses of others. Understanding its polarizing scent profile and potency, I only wear Royal Tobacco in my apartment, because it's special and just for me. I can't think of a scenario to use it with other people around. This will give sensitive people a headache and nausea. I'm glad I bought it, because it's comforting and soothing. At the pace I use it, it'll last me a decade.

It’s 68 degrees, cloudy. I am wearing this today. I know it’s not winter or evening, but it’s 2pm and I will go to a porch festival near me, and I will be outdoors. My trick, applies to many dark or “winter” fragrances: use 3 sprays, that’s it. One of the back of your hand, press it against the other back of your hand (press, not rubbing), and then press against the pulse points in the side of the neck. Second spray, same bit now press against the front and back of your neck. Last spray, in the chest, under the shirt. The fragrance “tones” down a bit since I am spreading the scent in the areas I will be smelling and the scent bubble is more subtle. The one on my chest area, it’s the one I will be smelling most of the time. The scent. All has been said. It can play tricks on you, if you think at the beginning that is soft. It darkens in 10-15 minutes. Try 2-3 sprays and see how it goes. It’s niche at the end of the day. Some may dislike, or despite it, but I love it.

When people complain about pricing I immediately know they have no idea what they are talking about. High niche brands make their products for people who can drop $500 like it’s 5 cents. If you have to budget or question whether you should spend $500 on a fragrance you simply shouldn’t. Stop living outside your means. Now on to the fragrance itself. Forget the notes what does this remind me of. This is the realest tobacco I’ve ever come across it’s smells like a lit cigar/tobacco leaf. It’s very Smokey in the beginning and smells like the leaf itself. This real life tobacco smells stays throughout. It slowly dries down to this sexy slightly ashy vanilla gourmand tobacco leaf. This is a fragrance you buy for yourself to enjoy and no one else. This will turn heads in a good way and a bad way. This is absolutely unique and nothing else comes close to this not even the clones. This is not a crowd pleaser this is a personal pleaser.

Very realistic, raw, natural smelling tobacco. Great depth, very different accords. Very strong too. At the start, i get a strong tobacco with elemi and olibanum. this is probably the best part for me. It has a plush almost gummy quality. Mid notes get much more dramatic with a raw tobacco note surrounded with lavender and sharp-sour notes. You get surprised by the number of accords you get at this point but they are pretty powerful. As it dries down, i get a strong leather note with a bold vanilla. Also some woody notes and some myrrh. It gets dirtier and bolder as it dries down. This is probably one of the best composed fragrances out there. The notes are extremely refined and i would love them one by one. But altogether i found Royal Tobacco to be somewhat hard to wear. It shouts out and wants to go bang bang. A masterpiece for me, but i would wear it very rarely, like only at home.

Just got in my new bottle 05/26/26. If there was a fire and I had to pick only one in my entire collection, this is the one I would grab. The smell of this fragrance is incredible. Has the intensity similar to the strength and power of Wasabi, this one really packs a punch and is a real pleasure to smell. Will be getting a 2nd bottle as soon as I can find another one for a good price at discounters. #1 Favorite from the house of amaouge. Don't have to spray this juice, it's so potent can smell it from the cap, and it's just as intense as if I sprayed it on the skin. The feel of these gray bottles have a great texture vs the slippery glass versions. This particular bottle with the black cap looks and feels amazing in your hand. Highly recommend Amouage Royal Tobacco to anyone that has not tried it. This one bottle might last me 10 years. 10/10 Legendary Masterpiece work of art.

Many polarising reviews, so I tried a sample first yesterday. It didn't even take me till the evening to buy a FB. I'm a woman and I love this. To me it starts out like dark flowers drenched in resins, a stage that lasts for over an hour. Followed by a fest of rich, moist fragrant tobacco. If everyone were to ask me what note I don't want in perfume I'd say licorice and anise. If they're in here they are so well mixed they don't bother me in the least. This perfume is extremely well blended, smooth and an olfactory delight. It's an experience. No, absolutely no ashtray or anything like it, at least on me. I've never smoked and I wouldn't care to reek of one. So ladies and gentlemen, don't be afraid of the big, bad wolf and go try. Those that think this is disgusting, I can't imagine we're even talking about the same perfume. But that's how it goes sometimes.

A complex and regal scent, demonstrating perfume craftsmanship at the highest degree. Then initial burst of cardamon is photorealistic with resin and anise bringing bustling markets to life. An almost sweet dry pipe tobacco, blended with assorted soft woods and exotic flowers make up the body, whilst rich balms and frankincense make the dry down as pleasurable as the first spray. A nuanced and incredible fragrance, OPUS XIV smells like the age of exploration, a merchant vessel stacked with unopened crates of spices, textiles and promises. Cedar chests encasing nuts, figs and exotic flowers. Dry tobacco in caskets sit upon planks of timber drenched in saltwater and curiosity. This smells of the masculine desire for adventure. It is rich, without becoming oppressive. Many fragrances announce that they are here, but OPUS XIV tells you where it has been.

Obviously a powerhouse but I came here to say that this one dries quite sweet and subtle. I love how it changes on my skin. From barnyardy/tar with a blast of licorice, it morphs into a frankincenese monster before changing again to be just a pleasant sweet(ish) spicy more personal scent. I was expecting it to smell more tobacco though, in fact I'd day tobacco may only briefly sat next to it once, it doesn't really feature much to my nose. I can totally see the comparisons to Oud Zarian. The licorice is very reminiscent of it, if not the same, but this one goes its own path, Oud Zarian becomes a rose/patchouli monster, this one remains spicy throughout. Can't give less than a 9.5, half a point off just because it I feel it needed a little more of that sweet tobacco found in its competitors. Overall though, gorgeous and impressive.

Royal Tobacco....the churchish, dark, middle-eastern-ish bomb of explosiveness. This one is for the TRUE and I mean TRUE tobacco lovers. If you can't stand dark, captivating and incense heavy scents then please steer clear from this one and leave it to the grown-ups. I can't describe this scent in words, I just feel like im transported to an incense shop whenever I put this on. Makes me feel like the most interesting man in the room considering not many people smell like this one. It takes a certain type of confidence to pull this off. 12+ hours of performance off my skin, and God help you if you put this on clothes because this one could last MONTHS. All I gotta say is, its an award-winner for a reason and is worth the buy if you're a true fan of Tobacco. 100/10 will repurchase again, and again, and again.

Royal tobacco is unique to say the least. It’s overly spicy, it’s sticky and oddly sweet—like raisins. It had a bitter edge to it from licorice root and you can almost taste it. It’s pine-like and a touch smoky, but the sweetness is actually what gets to a lot of people. Sweetness from resins is in a whole different realm than sweetness from vanilla and gourmand accords, and this is a perfect way to showcase this. Royal tobacco does feel royal. But it’s also a little overly done. That resinous sweetness is so sweet, that it becomes cloying to a lot of people, and that bitterness is hard to palate for most, but this is gorgeous perfumery. It’s not for me to wear, but I do enjoy smelling it. It reminds me of zoologist t-Rex, but royal tobacco is actually a lot more wearable than that.

After 3 months of coming back to a 2 ML sample i have finally pulled the trigger on a full bottle for 235 euro. it is so complex, so special just so unique, there is nothing you can compare it to. it is completely it's own thing, i know there is a dupe out there that comes close, but man looking at the 1 last spray of my tester i can not stand for the original. the amount of shine on my hand after one little spray screams high end. a world class frag made for a king. when i think RoyaL tobacco, i think a parfume that are actually made for kings. the highest end luxury you can get. the dry down changes several times even morphs into som,ething completly different. 12/10, not for everyone so sample first. but people will ask you what you have on bc there is NOTHING like it out there.

Amouage Royal Tobacco has been a special scent in my collection. It’s one that I don’t reach for very often, but when I do, it offers an amazing wearing experience. Here’s a short review: Upon spraying, you get a strong dose of anise and licorice. The tobacco note starts to appear, but it’s not your typical tobacco accord. I get smoky and herbal facets from it. I also feel that the licorice and floral notes give it some depth. After about two hours, the benzoin, vanilla, and tonka bean notes become more prominent and reveal a beautiful, almost creamy and ambery tobacco scent. I don’t think it’s very mass-appealing because the general public prefers Aventus- or Sauvage-like fragrances. So don’t blind-buy it. That said, it’s an amazing fragrance, and I enjoy it from start to finish.

This was a love at first sniff for me. It’s such a refreshing take on a Tobacco fragrance, and this already has already become one of my favourite scent profiles of all time. For the amount of notes used it’s so beautifully crafted. It’s complex yet comforting & bold - Its airy yet rich & resinous - Its dark, earthy and sweet...yet it has this uplifting and enveloping nature to the fragrance with the aromatics used.. It’s a Masterpiece by Cécile Zarokian - 10/10 I preface this by saying if you are new to Niche perfumery you may find this quite challenging or brash. Possibly in time if you expose your nose to creative tobacco scents you could eventually come to appreciate this extraordinary piece of perfumery. Golden Rule : Sample before you buy

-with this perfume i declare cecile zarokian my fav perfumer. masterpiece! the way it evolves over time. on me it sits more closely to the skin or so i imagine, since i never had a problem with someone saying its too powerfull even in summer. got first a decant and went to buy the whole bottle. stunning ! -begining of august, very hot summer: for some reason this night on my skin it smells more greeny, first time i smell either basil or mint, almost refreshing in my nostrils. it fascinates me how the oils can smell different depending on the skin moisture, heat, hormones whatever (im a woman 36yo). my only complaint is i get nose blind and i keep putting more even if people say they can smell it.

Excellent scent. As a 16-year-old, this fragrance is my signature 💯 My peers hate it 😁 The overwhelming, complex, and unique mix of tobacco, cigar smoke, and licorice is just incredible to my nose. When I wear this, I feel like the devil has surrounded me and is protecting me, whispering in my ear to commit sins. It gives me incredible self-confidence like I’m a 60 year old CEO sipping his drink and smoking a cigar while watching the view from his expensive mansion. I’m not a great commentator, but yeah if ykyk🤷 Longevity: at least 10+ hours Sillage: enormous Dry down: soft and comforting, compared to the harsh opening A masterpiece that deserves both its price and the hype.

This is so strong, 3 atoms of this frag can erase the last living Amur Leopards I had the male strength and pulled the trigger on the sprayer when I got it today and now my whole family is fully vaxed, we look like freshly 3D printed sculptures Royal Tobacco is indeed powerful as a Godzilla fart but still the smell is exquisite Smoky, incensy and spicy tobacco with vanilla make my early life crisis go away like it never existed I never took steroids but with this fragrance on my neck I look like a man with the most divorce cases in the human history because woman cant resist my dominance The only issue with this Amouage is that it costs like a brand new Pagani

I went to a department store to sample this and some other stuff. The moment I smelled it, I ran home, hit my computer and scoured the internet to find the best price. I had my order in within an hour (and paid for expedited shipping.) This is a big boy fragrance. It's rich, sophisticated, mysterious, smoky, smooth, etc etc etc, but it's NOT a crowd pleaser. There should be an age (and income) requirement before anyone's allowed to buy this stuff. It's GORGEOUS. I love it. The more I experience Amouage, the more I love them. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up owning most of their stuff before I check out. Overall rating - 10/10. Amouage strikes again.

@MiamiUltras, you basically said exactly what I wanted to say. "Licorice surrounded with wet and sweet tobacco on a ambery base." its one of my favorite bottles when it comes to a pipe tobacco. Its a masterpiece, and so powerful you'll probably never finish a bottle in less than 3-4 years. I love having it and if you can snag it at a discount pull the trigger. If you love the smell of heavy Pipe, Cigar, tobacco leaves then you have found your bottle. Try a sample if you can find one online. You wont be dissapointed. I'm happy when I spray it and then sad again when its gone in a wisp of soft smokiness.

I bought another sample (1ml) and wore the whole thing (I’m still wearing it). This is the third day in a row that I’ve worn Royal tobacco and I have officially decided that I will get a bottle this year. Preferably sooner, but I just bought amouage jubilation 40 and amouage reckless leather, so I’m gonna need to chill on the spending for a second. Not doing another review, but if anyone cares, my next purchase will be amouage interlude 53 and amouage royal tobacco. I can’t wait for when I’ll get those!!! Royal tobacco—9.7/10. Smoky resins, spices, middle eastern wet tobacco, and although there is no honey note, I get a sweet honeyed accord, and again, there is no leather note, but I get a little bitter leather accord that I believe to be labdanum. To those who read this and think "honeyed accord and tobacco" must smell like naxos or pure havane, think again because its not even close, here its much more mature and is not sickly sweet, its dark and serious. It's kinda linear, but very well crafted, with high-quality notes, strong longevity and projection.

Initial blast! This smells like a holiday fruitcake. The kind that I had when I was a kid. It weighed 5 lbs and was heavily spiced and laden with nuts and candied fruit. When the drydown hits, I pick up more tobacco nuances. The warm pipe tobacco or a cigar that has been infused with a fine spirit. Running that unlit cigar next to a fire in the fireplace that needs stoking as it it is smoldering a bit. Pure comfort and indulgence. Truly an experience to enjoy while reclined in your favorite chair.

Royal tobacco is a beautiful fragrance that will stay in my select few fragrance collection for life. It is rich and dense. Very strong and long lasting. The opening can be a bit sharp and may turn some people away but it softens after about an hour. You smell a strong tobacco that smells earthy, chocolaty, licorice that smells sweet and alluring, vanilla, warm sexy spices like cardamom. Overall it smells ultra masculine but well put together and classy. 8.25/10

Wow inducing. It instantly put a huge grin on my face. The opening is like digging your face into a fresh bag of coffee beans. Sweet, smokey tobacco and liquorice with some amberwoods going on. Absolutely stunning. I have been around smokers and this does not smell like an ashtray whatsoever. The smoke is clean, sweet with an incredible amount of depth throughout the entire wear. If you enjoy tobacco in fragrance then this is a must have.

This was an absolute shotgun blast to my nervous system in the best way conceivable. Something like the first time you listen to 8D music. I sprayed this fragrance on a blotter and before I'd even thought to bring it to my face the beast was somehow behind me. This is for ageless bedouin arcane weapons merchants and whoever is in charge of everything. Cécile was positively on one when she devised this. Holy Hannah.
