Oud Ulya

Oud Ulya from the Arab House of Perfumery Niche Haute Luxury Amouage from the Sultanate Of Oman is a Oriental Woody Animalic Smoky Leather Vanilla Unisex perfume with a masculine inclination. It was released in 2021; and the nose responsible for this fragrance is Cécile Zarokian. With its dark aura it comes from the 'agarwood of 'Assam, in northeastern India. This smoky, animalistic scent, combined with birch tar, makes the fragrance smokier, untamed, and difficult to control. Although vanilla softens it to some extent, the scent refers to the wild and untamed nature of that region. Respect for the traditional culture of Arabic perfumes is at the heart of Amouage. At the heart of Attar Oud Ulya is the powerful and unmistakable aroma of 'Oud 'Assam, with its deep facets: woody, resinous, animalic, smoky, leathery. This particular variety of 'oud is celebrated by lovers of this precious oil with its rich and complex character, which forms the core of this fragrance. The raw leathery animality of the Indian 'oud is bold and captivating and here in this creation it refers to a castoreum as in Silver Oud, providing an opulence that immediately catches the eye and igniting a virile elegance and an indomitable wild sensuality contrasted with an opulent sophisticated luxury. To complement and elevate the 'oud, this perfume also incorporates the intense smoky scent of birch tar. Adding another dark smoky layer to the fragrance, with its smoky scent reminiscent of smoldering embers crackling in a distant, wild burning ancient forest. This birch also imparts an eerie depth and conveys a sense of mystical, ceremonial intensity like a dense, blackened mist of an incandescent bakhoor, which accentuates the incensed arabesque opulence inherent in the 'oud with a profile of my favorites. The fragrance is refined by a touch of vanilla in a vain attempt to soften the composition, this vanilla introduces more warmth, but this time a creamy, sweet warmth that contrasts beautifully with the smoky and animalic elements. Here's where it again reminds Cécile Zarokian's Silver Oud with that smoky dark vanilla. This vanilla adds a polished, sophisticated touch, smoothing and trimming the edges of the 'oud and birch while also enhancing the overall richness of the composition. This balance between the raw and the refined creates a fragrance that is both powerful and exquisite, combining intensity with elegance.

I live in a fairly cosmopolitan part of middle America and I realized fairly quickly after wearing Oud Ulya out on the town and letting the average nightlife crowd (friends and acquaintances) smell genuine oud, that for the most part, they do not understand it. Now granted, many normal people not involved heavily in the hobby are used to chemical laden designers which smell perfectly pleasant. But it's like trying to explain to a totally utilitarian person why a Lamborghini is cool. All they think about is how expensive and impractical it is. To people that understand niche and oud, this is a good and possibly great fragrance depending on your tastes. This is not as animalic as you'd expect. But it has some real gravitas to it. It's a meaty and substantial fragrance. It's like they distilled down silver oud but they're not identical. The drydown after a few hours is pretty sexy, luxurious, and a bit dirty. If you like Silver and King you'll probably dig this one too. Sensitive or weak noses can safely pass on this.

If you familiar with pure Oud oils in the Gulf region (usually sold in 3ml, 6ml, and 12ml vials), this is very close to that. Oud Ulaya (which is a neighborhood in Riyadh) however, is sweeter, smokey, woody, and a lot less animalic Oud. Close to the non-fermented Oud that is distilled in Thailand, Cambodia, etc. I can smell the added Vanilla and it does make a nice addition, and overall it’s a high quality aged Oud. Very masculine and very classy. The performance is average for a pure oil, a few drops lasts 12 hours on my skin with little to no projection (high longevity-low projection is often a sign of a vintage Oud). The price is steep, though for this quality is a great deal. Highly recommended 9/10

This is simply stunning, with immensely high quality blending true to the classic Amouage style. It starts with a slightly animalic oud, but not overly pungent in any way, with a myrid of spices and woody facets in the background. Dark, warm, mysterious and with a smear of smoked wood. As it dries down, the sweet, dark vanilla comes out to play, mixing with the smoked woods and spices to create a smooth, intoxicating leather nuanced scent. NOT similar to, but in the same vein as something like Roja Dove's Musk Aoud. Excellent longevity, but projects softly after the first 90 mins or so. Although a little goes a long way, I feel I could potentially get through the 12ml quite quickly.

This compared to some brands is competitively priced. The oud and vanilla are so well blended. I believe it’s Indian Oud. On me, it’s nowhere close to Silver Oud as mentioned below, less spicy/animalic than Silver Oud. Slightly sharp and just animalic enough to become a fave for me.

I've just tried pure oud oil; it's amazing yet a bit harsh. Oud Ulya is pretty much oud oil, but carved to a more beautiful shape. As if pure oud is a rough emerald and Oud Ulya is a princess cut emerald. I like both of them.

Opening is super animalistic accords of assam oud, but leave it for a few/couple of minutes and it develops to something so extraordinarily complex, smoky, incense, oud, and a touch of sweetness from vanilla. Gorgeous.

Oud ulya is more on smoky and woody side than animalic. Sweet undertone makes it easier to used than most oud oil. Long lasting and powerful. 12 ml will last a very long time. Good value for money. Highly recommended.

Beautiful oud, smells kind of like cocoa an other lovely scents. Super complex, super unique, super warm. almost overwhelming.

This is really beautiful! It almost smells like a charred marshmallow with animalics

0.7ml vial from the official sample set, via the Harrods website. It has to be said at the outset that this is not a pure oud oil by any means. While there is certainly a percentage of real Indian oud here, lending a deep, woody heart note to the composition, the other ingredients play an even bigger role, serving to ameliorate the oud’s animalic side. The opening is rich and smoky, with birch tar and isoeugenol lending a desert campfire vibe that suppresses the barnyard top note of the oud. The smokiness eventually subsides, and a sweetish vanilla base note comes to dominate on the drydown. For me, this is very similar to Opus XIII Silver Oud - to the extent that it’s probably not worth owning both products at the same time. I’ve enjoyed layering it with good Taif rose oil. Longevity is impressive - you can still smell it when showering the next day.

Smoky and animalic for sure; Really good oud quality, masterfully blended for sure! For those who love oud, this is a really nice addition to your wardrobe :) It says that its most prominent accord is leather, but I can’t find the leather anywhere; it’s very oudy and definitely for seasoned noses; needless to say that blind-buy is a definite NO-NO! Wear it responsibly ;) 😉 Colder weather Evening Elegant style Male - Late 30’s to late 40’s If u don’t wanna dress up for this, at least a stunning denim with a top quality boots goes a long way with this!! A smoky slightly animalic Oud centered attar with aromatic facets this is a nice Amouage offering. The central Hindi Oud note is surrounded by hints of birch tar, castoreum, civet and vanilla. Overall, it’s still pretty sophisticated and discreet compared to the many independent offerings out there, although one would consider this somewhat bold by Amouage standards. The unisex scent has moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Much like the recently released Silver Oud from the same house minus the patchouli. Enjoy!

The oud in this attar is expertly wrapped in vanilla, resulting in a smooth and appealing fragrance. This combination makes it an excellent choice for those new to oud. Expect around 8 hours of wear with decent projection for an attar.

There is something in the base that strongly reminds me of another niche oud scent, but I can't quite figure it out. Given the price just stick to Opus 11 or Silver Oud from the brand, both are more complete and better rounded. 3/5

When I smelled this in store I audibly said that this smells like my dog's balls. This smells like sweaty oily hair and straight up anal glands.

I can see how some would think that tiny bottle wouldn’t contain enough of this....FALSE! I paid $32 for a little luckyscent vile of this which is said to be 8 drops, which looked only 5% full at best, But super abnormally thick & just the smallest dap on each wrist is all that’s needed! Just the smallest amount possible on the back of my hand I can smell it with my arms down & It’s so damn good! But I own Both Silver Oud & King Blue & This Oud Uyla is the excact same oud oil & is the excact same smell! Which is great to me, But definitely redundant to have both! If I thought hard enough on a difference somewhere, I could prob say a little more vanilla off in it. This for those who like Silver Oud,& can now say the tiny bottle is no concern. Although With Silver Oud being one of my personal fav purchases of last year A 100ml bottle of this fragrance or King Blue is just the way to go n my opinion, Just same ecxact oud used & pretty much same fragrance, Only it’s concentrated.

I purchased Silver Oud & love it so!!! & blind bought King Blue & thought I seen the redundancy in it at first but also see the differences & appreciate it & now glad I now own it for the summertime...This is more of that Silver Oud dna here but it’s almost as if it’s just that without the incense of Silver Oud Or the blue like freshness in King Blue...I purchased a quite pricey sample of and it comes out the vile in a very thick oil form, And when you touch your wrist with this stuff, Just rub it in wherever you want people to smell this stuff on you!! Awesome stuff in my opinion!! & feel like I absolute must have it to go along with the others as a signature scent sort of series for myself for oh say the next couple years at least!! Most people I would say tho should only need one of the three! However keep in mind you like this scent profile nearly as much as I do, You can sweat in the king Blue!

Oud Ulya Oil on skin ~ initial notes I get: smoke Oud, inky ink soaked Oud, charred birch tar, and some bitter leather start to appear, somewhat animalic. Half an hour later, a sweetened odor appeared with an oily quality- castoreum to shine. It’s even more balsamic animalic, yet the composition maintains a round and smooth depth. The beauty of Oud Ulya lies in the heart compositions of vanilla-civet. The vanilla here is darkened, tainted by the earthy, musky, lush civet, no more medicinal Ouds but a gourmand-ish Oud. Dry down - sweet smoke, no more soot like charred smoke! Have you ever smelled fire closely? The flame carries a sliver of kerosene! Yes, I sense a flicker of it. I tasted it when I inhaled deeply. Projection: Mid, it will fill the room + scent trail if you dab on all of your pulse points Longevity: Mild-Mid.. after 4 hours on the skin it’s subdued...
