Outlands

The sharp, citrusy, and incensing opening is simply magical, but what comes next is what makes this scent otherworldly: the drydown. The way this fragrance evolves on your skin should be the prime example of what should be expected of the perfumery. While the opening is sharp and almost intrusive, the drydown feels like an invitation. The performance? Nuclear, it's going to last for hours, and thanks to the enormous projection, you're going to be noticed in the crowd; it will most definitely make you stand out. If you want to wear it, be prepared to wear it with confidence; there can't be any doubts surrounding you while wearing this monster of a fragrance. Many people are probably wondering about the infamous Outlands clone, Rayhaan Terra. I compared them both, and while there are differences (the opening is very different) the drydown is VERY similar. You cannot expect the same quality as Amouage, literally grow most of their ingredients by themselves, while Middle Eastern clones like Rayhaan use cheaper alternatives at much, MUCH lower asking price, but in the end the similarity is there. If you liked Terra you will love Outlands, if you liked Outlands you will probably enjoy Terra very much. If you're ready to pay the premium price, then go for Outlands. However, if you'd rather settle for lower-quality ingredients but a very similar drydown phase, then Terra will save you a lot of money and bring tons of joy. Last thing, the price. The price is monstrous. A few months ago, Beautinow sold it for 250 EUR a piece, but don't expect such a sale to come up anytime soon, and don't buy it on the second-hand market, if you're not well versed in distinguishing fakes from originals, there is an enormous chance you will get scammed. If unsure, always ask on r/colognecheck subreddit, there are people who are always willing to help you with distinguishing fakes from OG's. As of right now, the safest place to buy Outlands is directly from Amouage.

I am new to the world of niche perfumery. The reviews of Outlands kept saying that it’s not blind buy safe and that it’s not suitable for those without a mature nose. So naturally I bought a sample. I live in Texas and it’s about to be july so needless to say I haven’t been able to wear this much. However every time I do I’m reminded of how beautiful this is. A lot of people complain about the opening. My family said the opening was very rich and pleasant. My best friend said that the opening was “a little stanky”. However about 10 minutes later he said that it had morphed into a beautiful scent he couldn’t describe. To me the opening is a bit harsh but not too bad. So what does it smell like? To me this smells like a resinous, incensey smoky vanilla, but not a sweet treat type of vanilla. More like a pleasant waft of warm vanilla that’s been smoked to give it depth. I wouldn’t call it a gourmand. There’s definitely a “sticky” texture to the smell but I love it. Every now and then I get some whiffs of spice and something fresh that helps keep this balanced. That’s another thing. This is really nicely balanced, it never feels too heavy either way but also never feels like it’s confused on what it is. Projection is amazing, even with just one spray. My skin struggles to project and eats everything. So finding a fragrance with real performance has been a joy. I enjoyed this fragrance so much I bought a full bottle after just one wear. I’m not an expert by any means, but I feel like anyone who hates on this didn’t give it time to get past the opening. That’s fair enough, Lord knows I’ve skipped over fragrances after a disastrous opening. It’s much more versatile than people give it credit for. One spray for work/warmer days. Two sprays for colder days where you’ll be outside. I think three sprays would label you a bioweapon.

Opens with pepper, sichuan, capsaicin, cardamom, behind that is powdery and sweet, similar to Layton without the verdox green apple note. Something else takes the place of verdox, I think it is a blend of the geranium, rose, wormwood, and anise that blends with the citrus notes to make a pseudo fruity flowery anisic accord. The opening and top notes are sure to be a crowd pleaser unless it's oversprayed or used in high heat, the powdery aspects can become overpowering and cloying in these scenarios. Once the pepper and citrus calms down you can really smell the amber accords, very high quality warm benzoin, just the right amount of oppoponax, labdanum, blended with vanillin, ethyl vanillin, maltol, I suspect, harmonizes with the peppery spice essential oils to make this into a unique warm marshmallow sugar sweetness, mixed with something akin to Nishane's Spice Bazaar. Photorealistic eating warm marshmallows while getting sprayed by bear mace, but in a good way. The usual white musks in the background doing the projection, ambroxan, iso e super, I think I smell a clean towel musk maybe tonalid? The drydown has a sweaty body odor cumin note in it that will have you second guessing if that's your sweat or Outlands, and it is actually the Outlands. It is not so prominent as to be off putting, but for people that love that aspect of cumin in perfumery, this is probably one of the most well done fragrances to utilize cumin in this way. Not for beginners, this is for people who are actually *into* perfumery. Amouage uses more natural ingredients than most, which is what pushes their price point up, obviously there are synthetic ingredients in this as there are in literally every fragrance ever, but you can tell Cecile was cooking with this one, and put the naturals to very good use.

So I just bought this today and am I having buyers remorse? Not quite. I’m just stunned I paid $515 w/ tax for a fragrance. I got a sample from the Amouage boutique 2 months ago and lived with it. I’ve been on a hiatus from fragrances for the last 1-2 years kind of in limbo waiting for a fragrance that spoke to me. I had grown tired of the hype of the fragrance community. One random day of just sitting in the mall I decided to go into the Amouage store. They gave me a few samples and this captivated me. Maybe because it’s familiar yet distinct. This is resinous, spice, vanilla flavored, with a sweetness, yet has freshness. I kept wearing the sample and each time I loved it more until I was like I need this then boom $475 I was floored. However this is something that resonated with me. I then get on YouTube and find out this is going viral. I see why it’s polarizing however I don’t think this is ground breaking but it’s really good at what it does. I love it. It’s going to be a staple in my collection. It’s last well over 12 hrs and projects nicely all day. This isn’t for everyone but I believe it smells amazing I. The air. This is one of those commitment fragrances because once it’s on it on everything it touches for months literally. If you love dark, powerful, resinous fragrances you might like this.

Picked up Amouage Outlands today after a long internal battle with Jubilation 40, and I have zero regrets. Cardamom is my favourite note, full stop. Growing up with it in Pakistani food and tea, I’m extremely sensitive to how it’s handled, and Outlands absolutely gets it right. It opens aromatic, warm, and spiced in a way that feels familiar yet elevated. Comforting but undeniably luxurious. The balsamic notes, vanilla in the heart are borderline euphoric. Genuinely one of those moments where you roll your eyes back and just let it wash over you. Rich, smooth, and addictive. What really works here is how the cumin, oud, amber, and frankincense are blended. On paper it looks busy, but in practice it’s cohesive and well judged. Even though I’m not usually an amber fan, it sits comfortably in the composition and supports the other notes rather than overpowering them. It’s exceptionally well blended, with smooth transitions throughout the wear. The fragrance evolves in stages, revealing small surprises over time rather than staying linear. A solid pickup, and honestly, a standout Amouage for anyone who appreciates spice driven, resinous compositions done with restraint and class. Edit : Someone said this smells like a spicy coca-cola and I can't unsmell it now 😂 anyone else smell it?

I finally got my hands on this one, & right away I was smiling from how good this was. I wasn't too surprised that it was good, I knew it was going to at least be quite exceptional considering the person who perfumed this, under the house of Amouage. But I wasn't quite expecting it to be THIS good. A voice inside me was telling me maybe the hype isn't quite accurate. Again, the fact this was perfumed by Cécile Zarokian should have told me otherwise. I am quite shocked by some of these comments though, are they trolls or just ignorant? Synthetic mess? Lacks complexity? Are we serious? This is Amouage we are talking about here, Cécile Zarokian as the perfumer at that. People are free to like or dislike this all they want, but saying things like that are just so wrong they need to be called out. Anyway, with that out of the way I first want to mention how much depth this fragrance has. Citrus opening, warm spicy cardamon (I think cardamon is one of the best spices you can have in a fragrance) the frankincense Amouage is famous for, resins, smooth vanilla and creamy musk, with countless other notes playing in the background, I'm even getting that anise note. This fragrance has excellent performance as well, the hype around this fragrance is 100% justified. 10/10

I've read a few of the negative reviews on this, and I completely disagree...for several reasons. First, I disagree because I think this fragrance is absolutely gorgeous. And secondly, the tone in which people write their negative reviews is usually an attack on people that feel differently. Let's start with, we're all individuals. 8 billion individuals walking around this planet with different tastes, different bodies, different body chemistries, etc. If we all had the same tastes, this would be a very boring ball to walk around for a lifetime. YOU are not the authority on what people should and shouldn't like; and neither am I. With that said, I received a decant of this, and immediately I loved this scent. It's hard to pinpoint notes, because it's so perfectly blended...so balanced. Outlands opens warm, and it gets softer and welcoming and endearing over the next couple hours. The drydown - F@@K! This is masculine-leaning to me, but it invokes a wealthy woman giving you a hug as she welcomes you to her family winter home. I know we all have different tastes, and I strongly believe in individuality, but sometimes things are popular for a reason. If you have the budget to invest in a winter fragrance, I would strongly recommend looking into it. 9/10.

Strange at first. This has been the most recent addition to my collection at the time of writing this. At first, I had quite mixed feelings about it. It was too loud, messy and smelled a bit "dusty". But skin tests revealed that this scent is way more than that. At the time of purchase, my mother was the first one to notice it on me. She did NOT like it at all. But during a full wear on skin, she has realized that this scent is very attractive, with a beautiful drydown. And what a drydown it is. This is among the most complex scents I have ever smelled. It is EVERYTHING at once, balanced perfectly. A bit of citruses, then a bit of incense and wood, a bit of vanilla, oud, spices, amber, and resins. And it just works magically. Insane day-long performance, room-filling sillage, and great versatility with only exception being high heat. It is sweet, but just enough to be attractive without becoming cloying. When wearing, let it settle for a bit to avoid the initial funk of spices. And do NOT blind buy it. This is an extremely high-end scent with a high price point and a high risk - high reward type. Costs a lot, yet smells even more expensive than it is. 9/10, a work of art. Closest (non-dupe) similarity: Swiss Arabian Incense 01

I first smelled this from a tester that was practically empty and wouldn’t spray properly. What little I could spray, smelled amazing. I later found there was a clone of it called Terra by Rayhaan. Far cheaper, so I thought why not give it a go. It smelled similar, same DNA but felt like something was missing. There was also a weird metallic type of scent in there. Left it to mature for a few months and it smelled better, but still a bit of that metallic background smell. Recently saw actual Outlands on sale at a price I couldn’t pass on. Thankfully I pulled the trigger as it didn’t stay at that price very long. So after smelling an almost empty tester bottle and Rayhaan terra, I thought I knew this scent.. I was so wrong. A full bottle of Outlands absolutely blew the almost empty tester bottle and Rayhaan terra out of the water! It is so much more complex, smooth, creamy, spicy, sweet with a hint of incense, insane projection and longevity! You only need a few sprays of this with how powerful it is. Which means the bottle will last longer by default. I’ve only had it a few days, but that is enough for me to confirm this is now my favourite fragrance of all time! Would recommend for anybody who has the disposable income.

Nose Note #845 This is nothing like I have in my collection. It is in line with an average Amouage scent, so to say, but this time it's made way more crowd-pleasing, at least that's what I'd say, my wife and friends don't really share my opinion. But take Purpose, Journey, Imitation, Interlude, just about any Amouage - this is just more comfy. It's sweet, very warm, and to me it smells like the leading note is orange. Frankincense here is just nothing else. Very beautiful. Old Amouage, new idea. I've heard many opinions on it now, and there's definately a lot of hype about it. Just mind, it's NOT for everyone. You really have to be into this incency line of perfumery. One of the best things about it is performance. It lasts all day on me. Stays on clothes for a couple of days. I've had about 1000 fragrances in total and very very few really lasted. This is one of the very few times I was really excited about trying a fragrance and it struck a 100. I'd wear this any day of the year, it's just so beautiful in every way. If it wasn't the price... Now I'm eager to get my hands on every dupe of this. I hope French Avenue clone it, in my experience they often do a very decent job. 10/10, not an overstatement

A true niche masterpiece that restored my faith in vanilla as a note. I thought I didn't like vanillas, but this fragrance let me see that I didn't lie fragrances that use sweet, gourmand vanillas as a mass-appealing crutch - this fragrances uses it to guide a journey. The fragrance starts complex and dense, a mix of light resins and citrus that in time introduce spices like cardamom and saffron. Over the next few the spices mellow out into anise and coriander and the citruses become airy florals like orange blossom and geranium. In the dry-down the resins get a second wind and frankincense, amber and labdanum remain to complete the 16 or so hours of wear I get on skin. Throughout the whole wear vanilla acts like a regulator keeping the spices, resins or any other note from becoming overwhelming. Perfect projection and longevity. The fragrance can fill a room, but not in a Purpose 50 kind of way, but in a more gentle candle sort of way. Longevity is insane, I get 16 hours, 10 of which it is at its high projection level. If you haven't tried the original I suggest a 2ml sample at least, as you need a couple real spray to get all the notes and the full journey.

Decided to write a second comment on this one since I wrestled with the decision for a long time but decided to go ahead and buy it despite the outrageous price point. I'm just obsessed with how it smells. I definitely get the resemblance with Layton that some people mentionned, but it goes in a different, much more resinous and spicy direction. Honestly I understand why die hard Amouage fans would be disappointed with this one because it doesn't smell like the Amouage of old. It's extremely well blended given the amount of ingredients listed and it's not always obvious to pinpoint particular notes. Turns out, I guess I'm not an Amouage fan actually. I don't like their Overtures, their Interludes or their Jubilations, I don't like their omega agressive King Blues and Royal Tobaccos. But I LOVE their safer offerings like Reflection or Lyric, and I think this one would lean more into the "less challenging" category (I mean it's still a heavy spicy incense bomb but you get it)

This fragrance does have really good opening and drydown, but i dont really enjoy how it smells at middle point. Thankfully drydown is that what you're going to smell most and it's beautiful smell. This fragrance lasts really long! I did spray this to my arm yesterday at ~17:00 clock. I did go to shower at evening, slept over night and i did still smell it clearly at morning. Even at work first hours it did out perform my scent of the day which were Club De Nuit Intense. At 11:00 it did start fading away and i could only smell it if i were sniffing my hand close. Now after 24h it left very little smell to my skin but its like 99% faded away. So atleast on my skin this lasts 15-18 hours with good performance which is crazy. I have never before experienced so long lasting fragrance. I think it's good that it lasts but it absolutely makes you think when u want to spray it. Spray this for night out and you will smell like this whole next day also.

Wow. Wow wow wow wowwwwwwwwwwww! This is soooooooo unbelievably beautiful and addictive.. like I’m actually kinda speechless. Why do I always fall in love with the expensive ones sighhhh ://. I’ll probably write a more proper review after I test it further and gather my thoughts but this smells so fucking good to me I just felt like I had to share immediately. First impressions are simply just WOW !!.. idk if I’ve ever smelled a more beautiful blend of notes period.. like borderline perfect. I literally am refusing to go to bed rn because I don’t want to stop smelling it LMAO. I juuuust fell in love with Decision too.. like in LOVE with it.. Amouage really is that girl! I wasn’t expecting to find a new love so quickly but here we are. I’m definitely a new fan of this amazing house. This is all so overwhelming in the absolute best way possible like damn.... two new faves back to back. Outlands is truly otherworldly to me..

I get hit with citrus in the immediate opening, then the spices come roaring in and they stay there for several hours. I'm hit with cardamom, anise, nutmeg, and potentially other warming spices. It smells like the most expensive cup of chai you've ever had during this stage. There's pachouli peeking through too, but it's not green - its a rich earthy and chocolaty pachouli. I get a tiny hint of a camphorus undertone, which may also be coming from the pachouli. By the end, I get roasted (not smoky - there's nothing smoky about this fragrance) woods and frankincense intertwined with the darkest vanilla you've ever smelled. Outlands is resinous, rich, dense, and very unique. It smells like no other fragrance I've ever smelled - like, it's not even similar to anything else. Outlands is in a league of its own, and considering Creed and Clive Christian fragrances are $600+, not as expensive as it could be. 9.8/10

Smooth, rich, heavenly, beautiful, sensational, gorgeous scent, what a beauty, perhaps the best smelly water I have in my collection undoubtedly, truly worth to be the king, glorious, addicting too, worthhh, worth the price. I guess. Still very pricey tho. I got it from a very trusted discounter for around RM1500 ($360). Checked authenticity on Amouage website and my bottle is legit. Special occasion, date night, go ahead, rock this, and it is love love love for me. Very complex and as I wear it, the scent just transforms and evolve as the time goes by. Unexplainable beauty. I fell in love. I aint into some A.I things and I genuinely wrote all of my reviews, typed each word, came from the bottom of my heart and the true feelings I have for each perfumes I wrote about. Especially this one right here oh yeah. This is love. This is perfection. A masterpiece.

Another breathtaking creation from Cecile! Just like Guidance, I anticipate this fragrance will be polarizing yet absolutely amazing. I feel so fortunate to have a piece of perfumery history in my hands—oak barrels with a double infusion of sandalwood? Mind blown! And with a brand new bottle, it feels extra special. A huge thank you to Mr. Renaud for the thoughtful note! The fragrance opens with a refreshing lime note that beautifully mingles with a woody, anise-like nuttiness. The heart showcases the best elements of Epic and Overture, enhanced by an ambery twist reminiscent of Tango and Material. The creamy dry down, paired with a touch of musk, makes for a perfectly blended scent that appeals to a unisex audience. This is truly a masterpiece from one of my favorite perfumers and houses. **i am a collector with over 300 perfumes- this is my 1st review**

It amazes me how fucking snobby the fragrance comunity can be at times. When brands make fragrances that are complex and rich they become "super situational" and "un-wearable", but when they try to simplify it and make it smell nice now it becomes too "linear" "boring" "mass appealing" and "just a cash grab". Just because mr.virgin69 commented how it lacks complexity and is ruining the brands image doesnt mean jack shit to anybody, Its still an amazing fragrance wether you like the hype or not With all that being said my honest take is that I really enjoy wearing and smelling this fragrance.Might not be the most complex fragrance from amouage but it doesnt need to. The opening is incense spiciness that dries down to a lemony sweet but still spicy scent. Pretty difficult to explain the smell IMO

I wanted to hate it, but I love it. I think its overpriced and snobby, but its also the most unique perfume I have ever smelled in my life. Its an ambery spicy vanilla, but nothing else smells like it. I've tried a couple dupes of it, but they don't get anywhere close unfortunately. its everchanging and evolving. I think its rather masculine, but may be worn by anyone. Surprisingly wearable for something so niche. There aren't any viable alternatives to it. Can definitely smell the frankincense, which sets the house of Amouage apart.... aside from them being not so great people. Outstanding quality and performance (as one would expect for 650 CAD). Will definitely, and very reluctantly, get a full bottle next time I visit Toronto. Update: cat is now broke, but got it.

Initial spray in boutique for me was love. After buying a bottle the opening first sprays were awful, i smelled the camphor note, that is talked about a lot. It was very strong and i almost regretted buying it. Alfter the scent settled few days, it uncovered its essential sweet nature and I started again loving it. I don't smell camphor anymore, just an interesting spicy vanilla, that has been comforting me now for many evenings in a row. A real beauty, the sillage in the air is really amasing. I will defenitely keep it and love it the next few winters. A suggestion for women, dont judge the scent from the first sniff, it needs time to reveal its beauty. But, definitely not for girly girls
