Category: White floral Notes: Jasmine, jasmine, JASMINE! Within a few minutes a wet tobacco and a piney note begin emerging in the background, but it subsides back to a pure jasmine within the hour. Oddly sweet, very indolic and kind of stings your nose a little if you inhale it too deeply at first, I suspect that’s the elemi. It does however soften significantly with time and settles in a sweet, clean jasmine. Vibe: Romeo & Juliet. Theater stage & elaborate stage decorations. Unrequited or forbidden love. Gentle kisses. Accidentally making eye contact with a stranger on the bus. Crush. Intoxication. Infatuation. Euphoria. Dreams. The Priestess in Tarot. Subconscious. Otherworldly. Obsession. Crystal ball. Sillage: 10/10. This is LOUD, or at least it is at first. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a perfume with this level of projection before. Definitely helps me understand why Amouage fragrances are so darned expensive. It is very overpowering in the beginning but does settle down within 30 minutes to a place where it’s actually wearable. Longevity: 7/10. A little less impressive on the longevity but still decent. I got approximately 8 good hours out of this which is absolutely fine in my book. Wear: Day or night, leaning day. If you’re gonna wear this to the office make sure you spray it on at least 30 minutes before arriving, or you’re gonna choke out all your coworkers. I can imagine this being absolutely mesmerizing on a hot summer night. I love it even now, but it does feel slightly misaligned in the middle of December. Overall rating: 8/10. When I first sprayed this on I didn’t like it at all. It was loud and abrasive and had a strange undertone that I suspect comes from the elemi; it smelled the way chewing a fresh pine needle tastes - green, bitter, sour. It does not take long at all before this quality disappears entirely, or perhaps it doesn’t and instead I adjusted to the strangeness, regardless it grew on me and did so quickly. The jasmine in this is to die for, indolic as all hell, smooth, mesmerizing. If I had to convey this scent to someone that hadn’t smelled it before, I think it’d be best done through the feeling it invokes, rather than the notes themselves; it brings me back to when I was 14 and falling in love. That heady, dizzying feeling of a first kiss. The almost physically painful longing, of wanting to be so close to someone you almost want to rip them apart and crawl inside. This smells exactly how an infatuation so powerful you think it’s going to end you feels. The crazy thing is, I wouldn’t even say this is a particularly unique or revolutionary white floral, but there’s just something in there - the same way perhaps some authors are just able to evoke a certain feeling, even if the story and tropes have been beaten to death a hundred times over. In the same way, Portrayal has a voice. She reminds me of the theater, aptly, and elaborate plays about tragic love. I spent well over a year trying to get a hold of this perfume - either as a sample or (less ideal) a used bottle at a reasonable price and had no luck with either. Then just two weeks ago I came in contact with the lovely @JanaVK here on Fragrantica who happened to have this in her collection and was so kind as to share a decant with me. I got her end of the swap we did last week, and not until today did I feel like it was time to sit down and try it. After just 30 minutes of spraying this on - I had already fallen in love and was mourning the loss of this gorgeous scent that I’d never be able to afford - as fate would have it, a near full 100ml bottle of Portrayal Woman popped up for sale for dirt cheap near me at 1:50am when no one could beat me to the punch. It was like the universe was speaking directly to me, saying “you have to have her, of course you do!” And when the cosmos talks, I listen. To say I jumped on the opportunity would be an understatement. Gorgeous, stunning, unforgettable and best of all - she’s mine! Can’t wait to get to know her more intimately. Who would wear it?: Juliet in Romeo & Juliet. Rose in Titanic (1999).

This is a review from someone who is not big on jasmines in perfumes because they often smell sharp. This smells like jasmines in full bloom in Olympus. Mystical, sparkling, airy, intoxicating, nectar-like, and downright bewildering. Sharp cat-piss synthetic jasmine who? THIS is jasmine at its best. I don't know what else Amouage added to the jasmine, but they did the flower a favour. The opening is a fruity jasmine in full bloom. The super fruity jasmine smell tones down a little very quickly. After two hours, the tobacco and vanilla mingle with the jasmine so beautifully, leaving you with this amazing concoction. So it's a fruity-ish (like subtle pomegranates or berries) jasmine, with a background of this dry tobacco, but somehow it remains very creamy. The elemi gives it a citrusy undertone. The jasmine, tobacco, vanilla, and the citrusy undertone smell in the mid-to-drydown range of this perfume reminds me of shalimar souffle de parfum, but not as powdery, and much more "Amouage" smelling. I got a few friends who didn't know the fragrance or notes, and they all said it smells like incense and something sweet. I can see how this might resemble a "lighter" Memoir Woman. I have a hard time finding fragrances for the warmer seasons that are complex and intriguing while remaining relatively light, and this fits the bill perfectly. Edit: According to Chong, the inspiration behind this perfume was women and cultural liberation in the 20s. No boundaries, people having fun, finding their identities. Jasmines were commonly used in perfumes for their sensuality in the 1920s, and people paired their fragrance with arrogance, lace, pearls, and smoking cigarettes. I think Portrayal Woman embodies this perfectly. Another edit: After wearing it for a few days, I must say it's very gorgeous. This would layer so well with leather, vanilla, almonds, or woods. This fragrance reminds me of Swan lake; the contrast between the good & evil of Odette and Odile. Both ethereal, mystical, and elegant, yet this fragrance borders between the depth and mystery of the dark and the effervescent element of the light.

This is my second review after a proper testing session: This legit smells like some Balsamic Massage oil (Cajuput/Eucalyptus oil - which is a cousin of tea tree), along with Nail polish, Herbal tea, Oriental spices and Thierry Mugler's Alien - and, I don't know if my sample got old but its turning sour on my skin by the minute! I'm not actually saying its bad, hear me out - Somewhere in Arabia, a young lady put out her camel light cigarette and applied a relief essential oil that she had gotten from her holiday in Bali. She then spritz a pump of TM's Alien to mask the smells and headed to the traditional Souk to re-stock her frankincense. Through the shaded bazaar, she calmly glided while sipping a steaming cup of Jasmine-mint tea, passing by crates of potent jasmine petals, herbal roots, and spices from Asia. Afterwards, she went to the waterfront promenade to enjoy the rest of her tea, and as the cool sea breeze hits, the wind catches the eclectic symphony of scents clinging to her flowing dress, uplifting her mood and calming her nerves. But wait, I'm picturing another scenario: A lobby of a five-star hotel, somewhere exotic, in the late 1970s. High-class diplomats are smoking premium cigarettes in the lounge, while the scent of a luxury Thai Spa wafts in from across the hall. It is grand, nostalgic, and slightly medicinal. Final Verdict: The way this fragrance transports me through different dimensions and eras is incredible. Despite the "sour" turn and the medicinal edge, I think I’m hooked. I need a bottle. Key words: Carnal, Nostalgic, Ethereal, Opulent, Elegant, Composed, Earthy. Comforting, Oriental. Nail Polish/Plastcy. Herbal, Tea Leaves, Jasmine. Sweet, Syrupy, Cooling, Balsamic, Peppery. Skin-chemistry-sensitive (Salty/Sour). 12 hours later: Lasts a long time on skin, and stays a little closer there. It dries down to a syrupy-sweet and carnal scent. The formula will react to your skin chemistry, so please test it on your skin!

Portrayal Woman is an odd-but-excellent jasmine scent. A simple construction by Amouage standards, it is a rich, well-balanced interpretation of jasmine from the exceptional Annick Ménardo (the nose behind Hypnotic Poison and Lolita Lempicka - the best gourmands out there in my opinion). One of the last releases under Christopher Chong (a real loss for Amouage), Portrayal is up there with the best from this house. Interesting and creative, yet cohesive and beautiful, it is a deceptively simple, yet multifaceted beauty. Portrayal opens with rich, creamy jasmine. Slightly sweet and wonderfully lush, it is not indolic - instead, the flower is showcased at its best here. The smoky tobacco that follows is used to great effect - it enhances the heady, rich jasmine beautifully. It adds an androgynous, modern twist to classical white florals - slightly sexy and edgy - reminiscent of a cool girl with artfully smudged eyeliner lounging by an ashtray on a night out. It reminds me a little of Elizabeth & James Nirvana Amethyst here - white florals and tobacco - but Portrayal is in a league of its own. Elemi emerges after a little while, adding a beautiful green balsamic, incense-like quality to the base, complementing the smoky jasmine to perfection. Elemi is not the most common amber/resin ingredient, but I am partial to its relative crispness. Portrayal is utterly addictive here. A restrained vanilla note adds some smooth sweetness to the base, prolonging the sweet florals and complementing the balsamic elemi nicely. It fades to a soft balsamic-sweet, slightly smoky skin scent after some time. Sillage is quite strong and longevity is long-lasting. Transseasonal and versatile, this can be worn day or night. Utterly delicious throughout, Portrayal is masterfully composed and beautifully balanced. It is still somehow baroque despite its relatively short list of notes. Unfortunately for my wallet, this is another full bottle I need. Exceptional. 5/5.

Amouage, you have done it again. Made me fall head over heels for a floral perfume that’s significantly out of my price range/budget, but somehow manages to smell so intoxicating, I know I’m powerless to its charms. I won’t be able to stop thinking about it until I own a full bottle. This gorgeous sweet jasmine + vanilla perfume took me by surprise. When this fragrance was first launched I read the note of tobacco and ran for the hills as that note usually disagrees with me. Well now I see that note isn’t voted highly on the scent pyramid and luckily I agree. I don’t get anything really smoky to this perfume, it is just creamy and lush. The jasmine note is undeniably present and identifiable but it doesn’t become indolic. Think Tom Ford’s Jasmin Rouge, with an added vanilla sweetness. This one has fantastic performance with just 1 spray I could smell it strongly for hours radiating from my arm, taunting me with its beauty. Upon the drydown it becomes slightly bubblegum-ish, but not sickeningly so. I think by that point the elemi note is also sheerly present providing a nice balance to counter the sweetness. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a more impeccably executed sweet jasmine perfume. This makes Mugler Alien look like amateur hour, and that one is masterpiece worthy in its own right, make no mistake. I don’t know what type of sorcery Amouage is practicing that allows them access to ingredients that make me fall in love with every single one of their perfumes but I hope they never lose it because I think they are on their way to being my favorite house of all time, and this perfume quickly shot it’s way into my top 3 from the house. I better start saving my money today, nothing else will be able to satisfy me until I’m holding this gorgeous bottle in my hands and sniffing the perfume of Angels.

Blind buy online on the Amouage site after seeing the notes and being a total fan of Amouage (except for their Secret Garden pastel colours collection that I find nice but not at that price). And by total coincidence, today I was wearing Ubar when the package arrived. By coincidence not because it’s another Amouage but because it is their jasmine to which now they add another jasmine. So if you are a jasmine fan, this is totally worth it. In my view the notes as they explain it are a bit confusing because they put the accent on the tobacco and a smokey note while the first, second and third blast is a luminous, bright, on the green side sparkling jasmine. Then comes a background of tobacco (but I had to really look for it, rather recognised it because it was mentioned, not sure I would have sensed it otherwise) and some non-smokey incense. It is beautifully crafted, quality, strength, sillage and longevity as an Amouage can be and I command them every time for not diluting their fragrances to follow all kind of uninteresting trends. The jasmine is different than Ubar where it comes out dark, more creamy but mostly indolic, here the jasmine comes like out of a bottle of champagne, sparkling, bright and almost joyful and I find the rest of the notes mostly giving it an evolving background not playing first role. A white-green note reminds me of Figment Woman but I can’t nail it down. A green tuberose accord? Maybe. I find it beautiful for spring and hot summer nights but I can also imagine it going well with a snowy evening going out - that could maybe fit well their 1920s inspiration.....

Totally agree with @Maya lilac - couldn't have put it better. I also get a faint Lalibela vibe in the base which is exactly what made me buy this as well, lol! This is a beautiful, rich, buttery and creamy jasmine with a slight bitterness from the tobacco. Very intoxicating. Perfectly balanced. Despite the jasmine being so thick and creamy, it completely avoids the sometimes indolic-urinal vibe that very strong jasmine can give and instead is almost... bubblegummy? Definitely on the sweet side of what I like in perfumes, but in this case the vanilla helps balance out the tobacco. It's like a sexy, floral, luxxxxxx version of Herod by PDM too? Very "clean" (in the sense that the notes are "neat" and distinct) and perfectly rounded, too. The first Amouage to win me over. Yummy. This makes me want to try everything else by Amouage, which i did in the store, but nothing else captured me quite like this one. Guidance was beautiful in the opening but too screechy and headache inducing in the base. Honour Woman was also nice in the opening (a kind of spicy white floral), but had a disappointing and lackluster drydown. Lyric Woman turned very urinal on my skin from the jasmine despite my multiple attempts to like it. The Secret Garden range was overall too sweet as well. Scent vibe: a woman out of your league Longevity: full day on my skin, days on bedsheets and clothes Projection: average to strong Polarity: leans feminine but definitely easily worn by a man too.

Editing my original review. It is now January 2026. I hear this perfume is DISCONTINUED. Fearful of Portrayal Woman becoming obsolete and super-costly, I just purchased a back-up bottle. I have NEVER done this with a fragrance. I cannot imagine ever being without this perfume. LOVE Portrayal Woman! To my nose, this is what the gates of Heaven must smell like. Portrayal Woman opens as a gorgeous, aldehydic jasmine bomb...slightly indolic...with elemi for sure and warm earthy, leafy, white florals. On skin I smell luscious and perfectly blended jasmine, orange blossom and elemi. Soon I detect a diaphanous gorgeous tobacco note. There is a gentle tobacco leaf, along with very creamy vanilla in the dry down. And there is jasmine. And the sum of the parts really makes this fragrance magical. Intrigued by the scent and the notes, I went on to read about Craven Tobacco, which is a specific tobacco "brand" I suppose that is used exclusively in certain fragrant cigarettes. So yes, tobacco and vanilla, powdery jasmine & florals, elemi, herbaceous greens & earth all blend perfectly together making this an exquisite perfume. Lasts for an eternity. Silage is perfect. A top five favorite perfume in my lifetime.

Ladies, ladies, ladies....this scent is potent, beautiful and seriously fantastic. Classy, refined and on trend. It is a very bold scent in that it has power, but not in a way that is repugnant. You dare to wear this scent. But in this case, daring is sharing your beauty unapologetically. This is one of the only times I believe a scent matches the story the creator put behind it! I have hundreds of fragrances in my collection and love them all....soo many fight for first place aka being my signature. This one right here...is hands down my signature scent. I will still wear the others and I am surprised this happened, but she is it, she won! Get your nose on this scent as fast as you can. The thing I love most about it is that even though it is super strong when you spray it on and is one scent, as it dies down, it becomes this whole other scent. It does not smell different, it just becomes even more beautiful in the dry down, but more timid. Excellent creation. My husband said he knew exactly were I as in the house because he could smell my scent trail and it was gorgeous. Nice job, Amouage.

Amouage does it again! Portrayal is a masterpiece within the genre. It delivers non-synthetic jasmine perfection lightly tethered to the earth by a smokey, resinous, vanilla whisper that prevents the composition from becoming too precious or giving jasmine ‘mall frag.’ If you are smelling ‘ashtray’ I would suggest to you that you don’t like a tobacco notes. I think the tobacco note deftly used, restraining the jasmine without calling attention to itself. Portrayal is gorgeous and WEARABLE, day or night! It garners attention, and compliments, not because it’s aggressive or obnoxious, but solely because of its arresting and intoxicating beauty. The fragrance has a strong presence without assaulting your space with obnoxious synthetic molecular boosters. The dry down on skin is intoxicating for hours! The materials and composition draw people in and beg them to inhale more deeply, functioning both at the macro and micro levels. Like all masterpieces, Portrayal is dramatic and easy. If you love jasmine, this would make a stunning signature scent. My husband is also obsessed.

Portrayal the scent is just as gorgeous as that pearlescent bottle is in real life. Pictures don’t do it justice! The structure of Portrayal is a simplified one, composed with just four notes, compared with the countless notes that most of the Amouage fragrance have, but the fragrance itself is great. It’s a simple concept but executed well. I think this scent is amazing if you’re into indolic, creamy, lush jasmine, dry tobacco and sweet vanilla but also want something resinous, warm, and moderately sweet. It smells refined and elegant in the classic Amouage style. Expensive but worth it for me. I am sold! Strong and long lasting, very versatile, a special kind of scent in my opinion. It will be my next Amouage purchase for sure, it has enough presence to cut through the cold! It took me a while to figure it out but, in the dry down, I catch a distant reminder of one of my most favourite scent ever, Memo Paris’s Lalibela. Edit: I own a bottle of Portrayal now, it’s so cool and mesmerising IRL!!

oh wow. Amouage delivers again... Portrayal starts off with what resembles a juicy, fruity cocktail laced with red roses .. now that I've been wearing this for an hour now, and checkign the notes, am pretty surprised there's neither fruits, nor roses in here :) The dry down, however, is somewhat representative of the notes above, although I still would not say it was jasmine...the tobacco is perhaps there, there is a smoky feel to the scent now...if I did not look at the notes, would have guessed it was a dash of patchouli or frankincense. I'll settle for elemi then here. To tell the truth, I often find white florals annoying. Sometimes they smell like a funeral home, turn into an indolent mess or are way too sweet. Now, these off-putting behaviours are very well balanced with the edgy notes (elemi & tobacco) beautifully framing the florals in the foreground. Clearly, this is a power (and powerful) fragrance, and would say it is better suited for grown-up women who have it all figured out :)

You have to be a jasmine lover to appreciate this. Now that we have gotten this out of the way, I want to say that experiencing this scent for the first time was mind blowing to me. I had chills all over my body, even on my face. I find most Amouage perfumes not exactly my type of scents and I sometimes find their nuclear performances (especially the sillage) to be almost offensive, borderline rude. Not Portrayal. I can’t find a single fault in the creation of this offering. I can smell the jasmine that doesn’t shy away here. It’s not an innocent, “sit still and look pretty” kind of jasmine. No, this is a diva, a heartbreaker that will take your breath away and make sure you never forget it. There are some light blond tobacco nuances that I find very sophisticated but always sit behind the jasmine that is the true star of the show here. Vanilla is only there to round things up a bit and elemi on the base to keep it a little grounded and give it a richer, slightly balsamic texture.

The opening is a bit of a jump-scare. The notes just feel like they’re arguing over one another. However as this begins to dry down it morphs into a thick and seductive jasmine. IMO Portrayal is not a daily wearer. This is something you wear to an event where the lights are down low, and you want to leave a sexy jasmine laced scent trail. You must be fully bought in to Jasmine to enjoy her. Even if you’re a little bit on the fence, she will repulse you. My only complaint- just after you feel like you've been floating on a jasmine high for several hours, there's an awkward midpoint about 4-5 hours in where the jasmine grows weaker, and the tobacco spices remain. My skin seems to amplify this, and I do not like this stage at all- however around hour 6-7, it finally settles into a sweet balsamic vanilla that brings back those "feel-good-feelings" all over again. Portrayal definitely takes you on a 12+ hour ride that makes you feel like you've worn 3 different perfumes in one day.

I love this. It's stunningly complex for a perfume with so few notes, and is an absolutely amazing performer. The combination of elemi, vanilla, and tobacco is perfectly conceptualized and has the added bonus of enhancing the longevity since all three notes can be used as fixatives. It's smooth, slightly sweet, rich, a tiny bit spicy. If you've never smelled elemi before, it has a kind of peppery note to it. In this, with the vanilla and tobacco, it almost reminds me of nutmeg and enhances the sweet/spicy notes in the tobacco. If there is any downside to this, it's that the jasmine is sort of nondescript here. It is clean and fresh and very pretty, but has no trace of indole whatsoever and just smells like any other flower. In my opinion, this perfume easily could have handled a stinkier jasmine, but I know that not everyone likes the way indolic jasmine smells. Pricy, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

WOW!!! It’s like I’ve buried my nose into a jasmine flower and it’s sticky, narcotic scent has hypnotized me. It’s almost too much but then I’m also picking up a sweet cola- like note, I believe this is the craven tobacco. Later on the Jasmine fades a bit and the elemi comes forward to play with the vanilla and tobacco. It’s Amouage so the quality and masterful blending is apparent. I do feel this will only appeal to lovers of white florals or those who love a heavy amber that leans feminine. Stunning! So happy to have a full bottle. Not that it matters as much as the fragrance but the bottle is lux! The cap has a strong magnet (you can hold it by the cap and it will not fall but I wouldn’t tempt fate) the red liquid suspended inside the holographic glass is gorgeous. Amouage is a niche brand that I feel is worth the asking price but I still seek out deals rather than pay retail.

I've been testing Portrayal for quite some time, and I must admit I'm still a bit on the fence about this one. Let me explain. I tend to strongly dislike perfumes with sweet florals (unless they’re balanced with something tart or spicy) and added vanilla. I was also quite disappointed that the tobacco note isn’t more prominent. It’s also quite simple - not like Epic, Jubilation or Memoir (all the women’s versions), which I adore and can douse myself in any time. That being said, it does some kind of strange voodoo on me. It creates a sort of feminine energy that’s actually fun to experience every once in a while. And strangely enough, I really do enjoy it. If I were choosing with my head, I probably wouldn’t go for it. But if I plan my purchases with my heart... I’m very strongly contemplating getting this one - and soon.

This fragrance blew my mind completely! It’s rich, it’s thick and floral(white). The longevity is amazing it lasts hours and hours on end on my skin. The Sillage, a person can smell you before you enter the room and the scent trail is amazing!! Now, what I smell from this fragrance is Dior’s Poison, no joke this is what I get after it has dried down and damn I smell soo good! It’s not the reformulated poison it’s the old school 1985 Poison. OMG! Am I ever so glad that I purchased Amouage? I need to invest in more fragrances from this house. Oh, I’m so in love and the bottle is forever gorgeous! One more thing I’m that type of lady that wears a fragrance wherever she wants and whenever she wants. No matter what time of the day or season. I’m going to smell damn good! #oversprayer;-)

Portrayal Woman has been my evening scent for the past few years and it has never once failed me. I kept sniffing my own skin because it's just that irresistible. Creamy, indolic jasmine dripping with syrupy sweet tobacco, all tamed by aromatic elemi to make it airy and pleasant. Vanilla is only there to sweeten the tobacco note, and the smoke is very gentle, supporting the jasmine tea. There's almost a honey-like quality to it, but not so much that it becomes cloying. 30 minutes in on skin and the elemi starts to shine, enveloping you in its bright warmth. With so little notes I'm surprised at how complex it is. The woman that can pull this off is a force to be reckoned with. Passionate, bewitching, glamorous. She disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed. A masterpiece!

Sweet jasmine that's so well blended, that's pretty much all I get. However, since I've smelled enough jasmine at this point in my collecting, let me be clear that I don't take the appearance of simplicity for granted--clearly, there are other notes holding the jasmine in check. It's not screechy or heady. There are SO many jasmine-centered frags on the market, but how many of them give you the vibe of royalty, of something so elegant and high quality, it should be inaccessible to ordinary people? That's the Amouage DNA, so that makes sense. No tobacco here. Dry down is vague--I see one reviewer called it "cola", and I think that's a great descriptor. Ultimately, I live in a hot climate, so Portrayal is not for me, but if you love jasmine-forward frags, this one is a cut above.

I‘m enamored with this supremely elevated white floral! This exquisite composition is simultaneously regal and unassuming. It’s deceptively “pretty,” but the beauty is supported by substance, that’s far from simple. The jasmine & tuberose are heady and inebriating. A thick, wet, tobacco & fleshy wild cherry provide support for the floral notes. *Note: the cherry only revealed itself after a month of maceration in the bottle. The base is delicate. No woods or amber. Only a delicate resin, to further intoxicate. Portrayal is no wall flower either. I get ~6 hrs of longevity with enormous projection, settling down to moderate after -2 hrs. I think Spring and Fall (mild weather) is where Portrayal Woman shines brightest. But this just might become my year-round signature anyway.

hypothetically: if I were a member of the clergy, and i had the occasion to anoint a king...this is the oil that would adorn my fingertips. this is the scent that would fill the room as the oil trickled down his forehead; wept between his ribs. when i smell this i cant stop thinking about that quote from fka twigs: "i'll be down in 5, i am wearing 8 past lives and i smell like jasmine. you can't miss me." this, more than any other jasmine i have yet smelled, is what i imagine she meant. it's sweet and rich - the sweetness is not sugary but rather floral and intoxicating, like a tree about to bear fruit. tobacco lends it a certain depth, a duskiness, so that the beautiful woman this scent conjures in my mind is lit only by a gilded oil lamp.

I love a well-crafted bottle and I'm happy to say that it looks just as stunning as the picture and more with the small details. Total blind buy for me, but successful in its unique nature. The notes don't exactly speak for the fragrance. I swear Jasmine can't be the only floral in this monster. I smell gardenia and many other white florals. The best part is that tobacco doesn't completely overwhelm or dominate the fragrance like in Amouage Sunshine. It just blends seamlessly in with the other notes giving it enough edge so you don't find yourself thinking that this smells like an ashtray. I keep mine secured in that soft bottom of the box, so it stands like a queen on my fragrance wall. Yes, I have a fragrance wall, #finatic.

Love at first sniff! However, this is NOT a safe blind buy. I wore it to work once and collegeue said “something smells like BO?” I just assumed it was me because the fragrance is strong. Soooo definitely FAR from office friendly. To me, this is very creamy, spicy, jasmine tobacco ice cream. It’s not gourmand but it’s got that creaminess that so delectable. It’s so incredibly unique and yet so so so likable, especially to an advanced nose. I wear this one for myself, as I own a bottle. Along with TF Jasmin Rouge, this fragrance screams Christmas in the city. The spicy & creamy combination to me remind me of the holidays, for some reason. Best for cold weather!! Definitely just smell it for the experience!

I was curious for some months to test this one and I finally got my hands on a 10 ml decant. When I sprayed it on my wrist, I sensed a minty note, an almost aldehidic jasmine..anyway it did not impress me. At least I tried it. However the next day, meaning yesterday, I decided to wear it and boy oh boooy this makes me feel as confident as f*ck!!! The world is mine when I wear this! The tobacco note is quite proeminent and makes it a bit"dirty" but what does this have despite this slight dirtiness of the tobacco that makes it so narcotic and addictive?? It's damn sexy and damn...i'm getting my own bottle soon! UPDATE: I bought my own bottle 3 days after testing it I bow to this creation. Royal and classy!

I have never received any compliments when wearing Portrayal but then people wonder where does my self confidence come from . Let this be my little secret. I don't wear it for the smell but for the confidence it gives me. The fact that I, personally, adooore the smell it's a bonus. Portrayal is not about the smell itself but about the way it makes me feel. Confident and independent yet a good and emphatic person. It defines perfectly my personality. It's so so sooo close, on the edge and fronteer to fall into trashy, ashtray-ish category yet it walks on the string but doesn't fall there. I usually hate perfumes that get me out of my comfort zone. Just not this one. This one I love

Portrayal feels very minimalistic yet incredibly rich. This is not your usual opulent rich bitch white floral. I believe its the elemi making the difference. The richness of jasmine and warmth of vanilla, but tobacco and elemi makes it more edgy and artistic. Dense, yet airy, whiffs of cold white smoke and vanilla sweetness. Masterpiece. The best from Chong era in my opinion. I can't wear the Amouage roses, but sure can wear the white florals. This, together with Love Tuberose and Ashore are my absolute favorites from the brand. Big love and I cant wait for a little bit cooler weather. In steaming summer heat its a little too much. During colder summer night it works well.

This is my power scent. It is what I wear when I want to feel strong and confident. There is something about the jasmine and tobacco mix that is empowering -which makes sense after reading the notes on the perfumer's inspiration. It is thick, resinous, lasts forever, and fills a room. I am not surprised that I love it because Annick Menardo's creations always seem to resonate with me. I wore Lolita Lempicka as a teen, Bvlgari Black through my twenties and Gaiac 10 as my signature until very recently. To me, this isn't sexy in the sensual sense - I wouldn't reach for it on a date night or if I was feeling seductive. It is more alpha bitch than femme fatale.

This is pure nostalgia! Reminds me of my childhood in the 90s. Takes me back to when my mom and her girlfriends would come back from partying and she smelled of cigarettes and floral perfume . also there is some kind of shampoo or conditioner that smells like this .It is very linear, the cigarette smoke fades off after 5 hours or so and you’re just left with the slightly indolic, heady Jamin and sweet creamy , smooth vanilla . I don’t think this is sexy though , but I can see how it would for others , for me it’s just nostalgic and makes me happy, I need a full bottle ! Edit : hours in the dry down the vanilla and elemi kind of reminds me of Eau duele

It's a rich, feminine, unusual fragrance. I love it. I usually track my impressions over time as it dries down, but in this case I just sat with the scent and enjoyed it. It started out with florals and some kind of warm fruity note (presumably the balsamic) and dried down to vanilla and powder, without a whole lot of complex evolution in between. Which is not to say the perfume is not complex—it is; it's just not complex because there are a lot of interlocking notes. Unfortunately it only lasts a couple of hours on me, and not everyone in my house is a fan (which will save me the absurd price tag), but I think it's wonderful, if a bit powdery.

“Old ladies” are not a species unto themselves and do not have a characteristic smell, despite what some Fragranticans insist. It’s also a lazy descriptor. And, it is intentionally rude. It is part of a pattern of minimizing and degrading women. And yes, women do it to each other too. Instead of ripping old ladies constantly, perhaps we should should start thanking them because we wouldn’t be here without them. In my opinion, It is better to smell like an “old lady” than to be an arrogant, ageist asshole. Rant over. BTW, this perfume is absolutely amazing. Syrupy jasmine, sweet tobacco and smoke. Speakeasy in a bottle.

Portrayal is an interesting blend of jasmine and tobacco. Portrayal accomplishes the task that Gorgeous by Michael Korres failed in doing. The jasmine here is not destroyed but rather it is enhanced and made richer by the vanilla and tobacco. This is silage bomb as well. Would be a wonderful date night fragrance on a cold winter evening. Very smooth, well blended and quite intoxicating. Only a tiny bit is needed, this is strong so the investment in a bottle of this would be worth the money because the bottle would last you forever. I think this is my favorite Amouge so far that I have sampled. Full bottle worthy.

I blind bought this for my wife, because I have (and love) Portrayal Man. Upon the opening, I told my wife, “I have smelled this before. It’s something you regularly wore back in the 90s”. We think maybe Donna Karen or Jaipur, but are not 100% sure. The opening does not last long though. As it dries down, the tobacco and vanilla push forward. It’s sweet, but not heavily so. The projection & sillage are very strong. I can smell her well after she leaves the room. Interestingly, you can smell it better from a distance than up close. This is not a girl’s fragrance. Portrayal Woman is a sexy WOMAN’s fragrance.

This fragrance is a total beauty! Truly evoking the term 'elegance'. This opens up with a burst of jasmine and a very thin layer of tobacco. But please note that the tobacco here isn't as strong as men's version. Just subtle, more like woody note. Upon drying, I can definitely smell the white floral and vanilla being the main character. Honestly, there is a note I don't know how to explain. I assume that is the elemi, although I don't know what elemi is. But overall, this is a pretty scent. Project really good, but subtly. Not the smack-on-your-face heavy. Lingers quite some time, especially on clothes.

20/10/22: 3 Words - Sweet Jasmine tea, and another 2 words - doesn't last. Exceptionally beautiful fragrance and the bottle too (it resembles Diors Pure poison). However, the projection and lasting power is awful. Literally not even 20 minutes! I cant tell you how mad I am, I love how it smells, but hate that it disappeared so quickly. I hopped to another perfume shop and coincidentally, the clerk at the niche corner told me that in her opinion, Amouage is the worst perfume brand as perfumes are overpriced and don't last long. Sad, but I will give it another try one day. I hope I'm wrong.

This is scent is for a mature lady but it does not smell old. I am not a white floral fans either but this scent does not really come off with the jasmine from the jump. The notes here are very well blended so it smells like a decadent feminine scent. This is one of the those scents where in my opinion you can't pull out the notes individually but you will smell very good. It is sweet and it really pushes off my skin so I don't suggest to overspray this as it can become cloying. I have finished me decant of the scent and would love to get a full bottle once I can make space on my shelves.

Such a beautifully made, well-blended piece. Jasmine here is the star of the show! In no way it's heady or animalic - It's creamy, milky, juicy, it's potent, and it's present throughout the entire duration. The tobacco here is luxurious and classy. Vanilla kicks in later, gentle resin comes forward, while tobacco quiets down a bit. So luxurious, so sexy, so intoxicating... She's smart, she's strong, she's effortlessly sexy and beautiful. I can also totally see this unisex. The bar for a unique jasmine perfume has been raised! Longevity 9/10 Silage 9/10 Quality and Uniqueness 10/10

I have never been a huge white floral fan, but this one is an absolute gem. The opening is a sort of creamy citrus like effervescence dancing around a gardenia-like floral and subtle smokiness in the background. It eventually transcends into a uniquely blended smoky, resinous, jasmine’d vanilla scent. It’s certainly unique, yet familiar, sultry, yet bright, regal, yet approachable. I honestly don’t know how else to describe it...I’m in love with this one! Easily could be someone’s signature scent and ooze sophistication while wearing a white tee and jeans smelling like this.

I blind bought this fragrance in the early beginnings of my fragrance journey. I liked it but basically never wore it. Lately I have been falling in love with this fragrance. I can’t stop wearing it. It’s so luxurious, rich and intoxicating. However it’s not an easy fragrance IMO and it took me while to appreciate it. I also have been pairing Portayel with Guidance, which makes the most opulent concoction. I am happy I have this fragrance in my collection and found new appreciation for it after having it for a while. Longevity and sillage are amazing : 10+ hours.

Sumptuous, syrupy jasmine on a thick bed of tuberose and tobacco. I don't get much vanilla, but the elemi gives it that special something you expect from Amouage. It's very delicious, and not at all light as some here are describing it. This is a loud perfume which could easily lead to regrets if used without due diligence. The drydown is why I put up with the needy opening, it's astounding. Update: Today I get 70% screaming tuberose and 30% jasmine in the opening, followed by the cosy tobacco drydown. I don't get the elemi until hours and hours in.

This is a magical interplay between the creamy jasmine touched with vanilla, and the earthy, almost damp tobacco. The elements are perfectly balanced - although that is not to say present at equal levels. The jasmine is dominant, to my nose, but it's as if the petals, bruised and lush, are rising from a faintly steaming mound of vegetal matter. It is not the smell of anything "dirty" in the sense of dank or rancid, but dirty in the sense of something living and humid and pulsing. When I wear this, I feel mysterious, complex, and gorgeous.

This beauty deserves a proper review as its really grown on me For me this is reminds me of scents like alien and OG hypnotic poison, its not that they smell similar, but they all share this sultry, white floral, unique and intoxicating quality. Portrayal is this spicy, sweet, crispy, woody scent that is extremely feminine and strong. And its not superrr internse and overdone like other white florals and ambers on the market, yet theres still a kick to it. Best of all this scent makes me feel sexy and strong when I wear it.

On my skin this cascades off a creamy jasmine mingling with the faintest whiff of good quality tobacco. Reminiscent of incense but never suffocating. The composition of a white jasmine and elemi lends itself to a cold impression, a sweet crystalline blade for when you want to cut through the bullshit with a smile. Some days it may come off cruel depending on your mood. But wear it on the right day after a shower and you will smell ROYAL. Cutthroat courtesan drip. I also think of wind chimes in the breeze.

This is stunning! A sweet, heady and nearly indolic jasmine. Similar to the jasmine in Serge Lutens Fils de Joie, one of my absolute favorite frags. The vanilla and tobacco really make this beautiful and give it some depth. I get a hint of tuberose and jasmine tea as well. I rarely use the word "sexy" to describe a fragrance... but damn this IS a sexy scent. Feminine and bold. Classy and refined. On my skin, it's smooth and airy but in a dense and creamy way. You have to like jasmine for this one.

This is such an unique scent. I sense whiffs very clearly 24 hours after wearing it as if i sprayed it 2 hours ago. It's in the hair and it smells so freaking unique. Very sharp at 1st, but smooth vanilic tobacco very long drydown. I still love it after 2 years. Beware - not mass appealing. People around who are generally designer lovers don't really love it. But a fragrance lover who lifted this paasion to higher levels definitely notices it.

Kind of strange smelling but beautiful too. The tobacco hangs in the background - this is mostly a blend of bright green elemi, jasmine, and vanilla to my nose. Pretty sweet, too - I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned this. Also smells incredibly smooth to me. Performance is utterly fucking nuclear so I would advise spraying this quite conservatively! I've heard rumblings that this may be discontinued and hope the rumours aren't true.

Portrayal Woman was the first Amouage I ever (blind) bought and started my love for the house. To me this is a perfume you wear when you need to feel brave or powerful. It really has that energy. This is one you need to try before you buy, because it may be bothering to you - no matter if you like jasmine or not. So please don't blind buy like I did (even though I love it, I can see it not working or being bothering to some people).

This kind of caught me by surprise . When I first sprayed it - I was like ... hmmm I don’t know if I’m going to like it. It was very jasmine and tea forward .. I Did not get tobacco . The dry down like 30-45 min later I started to smell the tobacco and it blended very well with the vanilla . Would I buy a full bottle ? Hmmmm maybe ... id have to think about it. But it was nice when it dries down and was pleasantly surprised! 8.3/10

I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN when I wear this fragrance!! This is giving princess Jasmine. Luxury. Royalty. My husband loves this on me and I just feel so beautiful with it on. I can’t stop smelling myself and THE BOTTLE are you serious??? I hope they never discontinue this I will die. Amouage is my favorite house making addicting and unique scents. It’s bottles and scents like this that really add romance to your life. What an experience!
