Purpose feels like a continuation of that introspective identity, leaning into dryness, resin, and spiced woods rather than sweetness or overt opulence. On paper, the notes suggests something arid and deliberate, shaped more by earth and smoke than by florals or warmth. Even the name implies intention and grounding, hinting at a fragrance built on clarity rather than indulgence. Let’s see whether Purpose lives up to both its name and my expectations once it settles onto skin. Opening: The opening is woody, spicy, and resinous. The primary notes I get are akigalawood, black and pink pepper, olibanum, and papyrus, with the akigalawood and pepper leading the structure. The akigalawood arrives first with a distinctly dry, spicy wood character that feels structured and modern rather than creamy or rounded. It carries a subtle peppered warmth within the wood itself, giving the opening immediate depth and edge without heaviness. Performance: Projection is assertive from the very beginning, extending roughly six feet within the first hour and establishing an unmistakable presence. The scent trail is also dense and clearly defined early on, leaving a substantial impression without feeling chaotic. At the three to four hour mark, both projection and sillage remain largely unchanged, maintaining the same strength and reach as the initial spray. Even around seven to eight hours into the wear, projection continues to hover around six feet, with the trail softening slightly but still remaining easily noticeable. It does not settle into a skin scent until past the twelve hour mark. Overall, Purpose delivers exceptional longevity with consistently strong projection that reinforces its bold, resinous character. When to Wear: Purpose is surprisingly versatile despite its intensity. The dry woods and incense make it especially compelling in fall and winter, where its resinous depth can fully develop, yet the brightness from the peppers and bergamot allows it to remain wearable in warmer months without feeling suffocating. However, its strength and persistent incense character make it less suitable for office environments, where it could easily dominate the space. Blind Buy: Purpose is not a safe blind buy. Nose Note #878 So people have been shitting on Purpose and hyping Purpose 50, I don't get it. As one person below wrote - you can't like one and dislike the other, they are pretty similar. Sure, Purpose has stronger spices that smell more gourmand and edible (hence the indian guy reference), but Purpose 50 also has similar spices, except they are buried under a coating of something sweet which is very interesting. In many ways Purpose 50 is much more appealing, I agree. But Purpose has the classic Amouage DNA, whereas Purpose 50 to me screams "I've been made by Quentin Bisch", maybe it's the akigalawood that smells like Bois Imperial and Ganymede to me, like a fruitier, spicier and less metallic/gunpowdery/out of this world. Purpose has this strong mintiness that I absolutely love. And it's very strong. Despite people voting for Purpose 50 being "eternal" I don't have that experience, I'd even say Purpose 50 is more mellow than Purpose. Again, my main issue with Purpose 50 - it smells more niche-Bisch and less like Amouage. I was wearing Purpose and my friend said I smell like lentil stew. I kind of get it, everyone in the comments has already called it "the scent of an indian dude". But dammit, this smells amazing. Feels like second skin to me. To conclude, Purpose and Purpose 50 are similar, but at the same time they are very very different. Having both is not redundant. I'm slowly realising that earthy, smokey vetivers and pepper are my thing. Sweet, coconut, youthful, fruity or gourmand not so much. This is the former and it's stunning, I love it. I get Frankincense, Vetiver, Pepper with a bit of wood, probably Sandalwood. The beautiful thing about this though is that over several hours the Rose gradually starts to come through. It never reaches any major prominence but it's there and provides the vessel for the scent to gradually change and soften as the day progresses. Mass appealing, not really. Clean, yes. Masculine, yes. Medicinal, maybe. Sexy in a outdoorsy lumberjack kind of a way. Perfectly suitable for a night out but probably not my first or second choice but that's just my preference. This is likely to become a day time signature for me. I get regular reminders I'm wearing it all day but I wouldn't say it's a monster of projection, but I generally go with 2 sprays and need to wear it more around other people to be sure. Purpose, Reflection 45 and Honour Man are my favourites of the 10 or so I've tried from Amouage. The original Reflection would have made this list in place of Reflection 45 but the last time I tried it there was more emphasis on the white flower note and it seemed a little bit lighter.

I had been waiting to experience Purpose for a very long time. Not because of the hype, but because a brief encounter with Purpose 50 at an airport months ago left an unforgettable impression in my memory. Today I finally met the original. The first thing that came to mind was the lobby of a truly luxurious hotel in Dubai or Doha. Quiet luxury. Expensive materials. Polished stone. Warm wood. Nothing flashy, yet everything feels refined. The opening is dominated by vibrant spicy pepper wrapped in magnificent Omani frankincense. It feels sharp, but never aggressive. Then comes the surprise. As the fragrance settles, it transforms into something greener and creamier. The woods become smoother, the frankincense becomes softer, and a beautifully damp vetiver slowly appears. It feels natural, elegant and incredibly well balanced. What fascinated me the most is that Purpose doesn't seem interested in impressing you immediately. It invites you to slow down. Interestingly, I could already recognize the DNA that had captivated me in Purpose 50. Not the entire story, but clearly its roots. This is only my first day with the fragrance, and I already have the feeling that I have just finished reading the introduction of a very long and beautiful book.

I actually like this one. This is one that makes you project being devoid of any emotion, cold, yet confident. This is not a happy, flirty, cozy, or warm scent, this is like the name implies purposeful. This is borderline off putting, and borderline loveable. It is a linear scent, strong, arid, woody, has both natural components and some synthetic woody fixatives. If scents like bois imperial or kenzo homme edp are things you like, you might be able to pull this one off...it's not similar, but the construction of the fragrance is. Don't go heavy on the trigger, or this will wear you, go light, and again with purpose, pun intended. This is strictly for professional occasions, and if you want to keep emotional distance. This is what a judge should wear, an intelligence officer briefing policy makers, or a military officer in dress uniform should wear, and yes, you should be passed the colonel level for it. Now does this qualify Amouage Purpose as art? I don't know? I like wearing it with a grey suit and no tie, maybe a pocket square in subtle way. No hoodies here. For a complex alternative, that is definitely art, yet having similar use cases is Amouage Memoir Man. That one is one of the most complex, least linear fragrances out there ever

A very unique, really niche fragrance by Amouage. I love the dose of Frankincense in it, giving that bold green incense vibe. I get a little bit of woodiness in it from time to time. However when I first smelt it, it was extremely spicy which later matured into a more smoky, woody, incense scent. Again, interesting how Amouage smells different first time vs later on. This perfume is so niche that most people cannot understand it. You spray it and go to a bus or train, you will find almost all people holding their noses and looking at you disgustingly as you pass by. Or they would would look with question marks, huh? However, if you come by people from rather upscale backgrounds - think those who wear Coach, Gucci, Louis Vuitton bags, they are wondering in awe as to what perfume you are wearing and have a deep appreciation for this fragrance. One of them asked me what I was wearing as it smelt good! So guys, chose your audience wisely with this fragrance on!!! Very few can understand this scent. This is not for a general, everyman, Joe. @AndySmellsGreat08 I’m with you 100% on that. Amouage Purpose is a fragrance I initially disliked, but the more time I spent with it, the more I grew to love it. There's a subtle sweetness, lifted by smokiness, that may not be immediately apparent, but as you delve into its multi-faceted nature, you begin to recognize it as a true masterpiece—a diamond in the rough. There's a reason why Amouage dupes are virtually non-existent, and that's due to their unwavering commitment to using the rarest and most exclusive raw materials in their perfumes, which is clearly evident here. IMO, when Quentin Bisch created Ganymede for Marc-Antoine Barrois, it felt like an unfinished perfume. However, with Amouage Purpose, he has refined and completed that concept. Purpose is a deeper, more fully realized, and perfected version of Ganymede. This was made possible by Amouage's ability to grant the perfumer unrestricted access to an unparalleled selection of raw materials, allowing the fragrance to reach its full potential. If you’re someone who appreciates dressing with intention, Amouage Purpose is the ideal fragrance to complete your ensemble. 10/10

I spent a good deal of time with this one before writing a review. When I first tried it at Sak's I LOVED it; they had already sold out of their available stock too. I took a test strip home and smelled that thing for days; still loved it. Bought a 2 ml sample from Amouage---loved it even more on my skin. Finally caved in and found a full bottle for 25% off. I get a deep green, creamy incense with a spicy mineral woods base. Clean and masculine. Definitely a cooler weather fragrance, but still versatile, with outstanding longevity. Like the other three fragrances from this particular line, it is masterfully blended. I dont get the Quentin Bisch haters, the guy is clearly talented. I will say this falls into the "challenging" fragrance category; in that not everyone will like it (my wife included, sadly), and it is not an everyday wear. I do think it's more accessible than some of Amouage's other offerings which are too opulent and intense to be mass-appealing. This is an incredible fragrance with a premium price. 10/10 for me, but definitely spend some time with it before buying.

“This fragrance doesn’t scream, it whispers...” I am a fan of Bisch, Ganymede and Bois Imperiale are my signature scents, so when I heard that he was working with Amouage, I was intrigued. In a certain way this is a companion piece to Ganymede, but not in a way that you might think without smelling this. Purpose is a forest planet, covered in thick pines, bleeding olibanum tears. It’s a cold misty planet, where the wind and clouds carry the scent of citrusy resins and papyrus.There are no animals, people or birds here. There is silence. Cold, mineraly lakes carry floating driftwood and granite mountains stand tall. Purpose evokes the same themes as Ganymede, but not the same smells. It is another planet in the Bisch universe. Inspired by shows like David Lynch’s Twin Peaks and the Alan Wake video game series. Objectively this is a showcase of raw olibanum, papyrus and akigalawood lifted by bitter bergamot. There is no smoke here, only sap and resin of cold and raw olibanum. This is not a fragrance, it’s a feeling. Not a scent you smell, you wear it like a suit of armor.

I enjoy Varanis Regardius's vast opinions and I generally agree with him except for this here release from The Amourage Bros, which he disparages as being "vegetal" (as opposed to "animal"? "mineral"? "protists"? "the organisms that exist in volcanic vents at the extreme depths of The Marianas Trench"?) No Way, Jose, this is in the same groove as Opus VII as it was renamed as "Funky-ass Wood," or something. This is way better, because instead of going from savory to olive oil territory, this one goes from citrus to incense to a reasonably pleasant AIoud AI formulation, I would wager. Then the drydown is serious Catholic incense, and it has a good throw for a bit. So, if you collect Amouage, and granted I have a strong POV I would rate this as a "git some". It's weird but pleasant and I could wear it any season. If you like taking vacations in Tahiti you might like this a lot, smells just like that a peak experience. I wish you all the most spectacular sense/aesthetic integrations in the future!

The magic of this perfume is in the dry down which is dry, slate like frankincense. IMO very pretty to just catch a whiff of every now and then. Opening is strong in your face vetiver which I personally love. Not everyone does and therefore please sample before you buy a full bottle. I bought a sample and in 2 days ordered the full 100 ML bottle. That is because I love the smell of frankincense in my house and and on me. Reminds me of everytime i am in the GCC region. Longevity is unreal almost stays for a week a over on clothes. I spray 2 sprays on each lapel and then smoke it with frankincense and apply a little Xerjoff 1861 Naxos to each supraclavicular fossa. All day I catch whiffs of frankincense and Jasmine from the Naxos. It is such a happy way to go through your day. Reminds me of my house and my country and my wife and my childhood. This is a vetiver dominant and frankincense heavy scent. Absolutely stunning IMO

For me, this is a stellar perfume. The longevity is unmatched, you cannot remove it. Now the scent itself is a wonderful representation of Frankincense and its raw facets...I don't want to call it incense, because that would mean with fire, and while there is a whisper of smoke, this is mostly smoke free. The akigalawood, Vetiver and mystikal all work to support the lemony and slightly piney frankincense...and make it last a long time. So, a bright, airy, slightly pine leaning fresh beast...can easily be worn all seasons. I am not familiar with Ganymede, so no comment, but the far drydown does remind me of one of his other creations, Experimentum Crucis by ELDO. That is a rose/cumin/akigalawood scent, but the rose doesn't stand a chance next to that molecule. They both dry down to akigalawood. My first impressions on this are mixed ... on the one hand, this is true niche perfumery. Only a small subset of people are going to want to wear this. The problem is that I don't know if I'm in that subset. It opens up with a strong spicy wood accord, and then dries down into a woody incense. The incense does have a bit of a green touch, which I like, but the wood is overwhelming. Speaking of, this is a monstrous performer. I almost scrubbed it off at first spray. It's simply too much. After it calms down, it's much more tolerable and borderline likeable. I'm going to have to spend more time with this one, but the tl'dr is that if you're looking for a wood nuke, this is for you.

Long-lasting, complex, and unpredictable, it makes me feel like a walking enigma wrapped in ritual smoke and sun-drenched leather. Wearing Purpose is like entering a grand cathedral at vespers where golden light spills through Van Gogh Starry Night blue and yellow stained glass. The air is heavy with incense and solemn mystery. This is not mere fragrance in my humble opinion. It’s ecumenical liturgy for the skin. It speaks in sacred tones, draws you to silence, and leaves you with the feeling that you’ve touched something holy.

I’m a fan. Opens very spicy and sharp with the black and pink pepper with pimento for me then the spice calms down and transitioned to an almost paper like sweet mineral green incense (frankincense) vibe with woods if that makes sense....and then dries down to woods with a nice vetiver note. The incense isn’t too smoky. Although this doesn’t smell like Bois Imperial or Guidance and I see how people would see similarities - maybe the akigalawood in the drydown. In any case, this is a gorgeous green fragrance from Amouage and I can’t wait to try Purpose 50. It’s got staying power and lingers. Don’t purchase if you don’t like spice or incense.

This is in my top 3 Amouage (Amouage is actually plural in Arabic) of all time. I know it's a modern release, but one that carries the identity of the real Amouage House like badge of honor. I prefer this way way more than its Purpose 50 flanker. Elegant: Woods, resins, vetiver, and an incredible mix of Mystical gum and rose to round off the edges of the papyrus. You don't smell the rose, it's a catalyst rather than a note. From the new age Amouage releases, it's this one and Decision. Purpose is a year round scent, except daytime in summer, but please dress well for this one, it's not casual at all, no Amouage is for that matter.

Wow! I’m reading some reviews here... so misleading. Not a suede not a woodsy perfume... It’s a mineralic perfume. The pepper blind sides you - especially in the first 30 minutes. From then on it’s like a psychotic episode or an epileptic fit where in your brain switches every half a second to determine if it’s now suede or pepper or wood. Somehow I find it refreshing and better than some other mineralic attempts I’ve tried. Not for everyone but I infact find it refreshing and unusual and wierdly passable enough for professional use. Together with Search I find this an above average offer from Amouage - I’m order an FB now...

Purpose is amazing. I can't believe the rating. Some people really have no idea what they are putting on before they write anything. This deserves a much higher overall rating. This is a Beautiful artistic articulation of a moment. A moment of reflection in a brief escape. This isn't a fragrance to wear every day. It's a fragrance for when you’re in a certain awareness of mind and body. This is not a warm fragrance. You can almost smell the breeze. Which I love. It is a very cool experience. Honestly, the longer I wear it the more I enjoy it. Maybe it is just a misunderstanding, I'm not sure. Don't overlook this!
