Reception

EN Reception is one of those purchases that once again reminds me why I love Amouage so much. This fragrance was available only at Harrods, and that alone made it even more desirable to me. At least for now, it simply cannot be purchased in other European countries. And yet it arrived in Italy in just a few days, which was a very pleasant surprise. I bought it blind, without testing it beforehand. But when it comes to Amouage, I understand perfectly well why I decided to take what might seem like a “reckless” step. I already have more than 38 Amouage fragrances in my collection, so this is not some random whim. It is real trust, built over the years, bottle after bottle. And this time, once again, that trust proved completely justified. Reception makes the impression of being a very refined, original, and truly Amouage fragrance in the best possible sense of the term. It has character, elegance, and that perfectly polished depth that makes this perfume house so compelling to me. It is one of those fragrances that instantly creates the feeling: yes, this was absolutely the right choice. No doubts, no regrets, only pure pleasure. I am genuinely very happy that I managed to get this perfume. Buying without trying may seem bold to some, but when a perfume house has earned this level of trust, it no longer feels like a risk. It feels almost natural. And Reception, in my view, fully confirmed that this decision was the right one. For me, it is yet another magnificent success from a house I truly adore. ________ IT Reception è uno di quegli acquisti che ancora una volta mi ricordano perché amo così tanto Amouage. Questo profumo era disponibile soltanto da Harrods, e già questo da solo lo ha reso per me ancora più desiderabile. Almeno per ora, negli altri Paesi europei semplicemente non si può acquistare. Eppure è arrivato in Italia in pochi giorni, cosa che per me è stata una sorpresa molto piacevole. L’ho comprato alla cieca, senza provarlo prima. Ma quando si parla di Amouage, capisco perfettamente perché ho deciso di fare un passo che, a qualcuno, potrebbe sembrare “sconsiderato”. Nella mia collezione ci sono già più di 38 profumi di Amouage, quindi non si tratta di un capriccio casuale. È una fiducia vera, costruita negli anni, flacone dopo flacone. E anche questa volta quella fiducia si è rivelata pienamente fondata. Reception dà l’impressione di essere un profumo molto raffinato, originale e autenticamente Amouage nel senso migliore del termine. Ha carattere, eleganza e quella profondità perfettamente levigata che rende questa maison così attraente ai miei occhi. È uno di quei profumi che creano subito una sensazione chiarissima: sì, la scelta è stata assolutamente giusta. Nessun dubbio, nessun rimpianto, soltanto puro piacere. Sono davvero molto felice di essere riuscito a procurarmi questo profumo. Comprare senza provare può sembrare una scelta audace, ma quando una maison si è guadagnata un simile livello di fiducia, non sembra più un rischio. Sembra quasi un gesto naturale. E Reception, dal mio punto di vista, ha confermato pienamente la correttezza di questa decisione. Per me è un altro magnifico successo di una maison che adoro davvero.

Yay, I can agree with some of the reviews here. This actually does smell like an Amouage! As an Amouage enjoyer I have to admit that The Essences don't do it for me. Overpriced, and without that old Amouage edge. Reception however.... is a bit of a return to form. First wear for me and I'm getting spicy, smooth, creamy, woody, roasted coffee. It isn't a typical coffee smell though. It's brighter with a minty spicy edge. There is some short lived nondescript citrus note on first spray. Longevity is excellent. I got 12 hours of detectable wear. This is also my favorite from The Essences collection, and I've tried them all.

My Favorite from The Essences. Reception is a soft, warm, and slightly-sweet amber fragrance. With a nice lemony brightness, light smooth spiciness from coriander, and hints of soothing coffee. You do not get the classic luban (frankincense) smell but you do get some of its resinous smoky scent. Ambery, smooth, lightly spicy, little sweet, and coffee. This is, by far, my favorite from the Essences collection. It has similarity to Roberto Cavalli Golden Amber. Similar amber/coriander scent. I do like the lemon and coffee addition in Reception more, though. Unisex, mature, cool weather. "Love"

When I put my nose to Reception it made me smile. Yes, it's inherently an Amouage and has all the things than we have come to love about the brand over the years. Resinous and complex, a little green, spicy woody, luxurious and entirely wearable. The opening is stunning!! It just reaches out and grabs you. Balsamic and anisic with coriander, juniper and just a hint of lemon peel. The coffee note is nothing like say Followed by Kerosene. Here it's a supporting note, blended, but not entirely out of the picture until hours 3-4 on my skin.

@r350 u remined me of an alcoholic critic who only write reviews after drinking lots of drinks, i can feel the anger through your lines, maybe the issue her is not the perfumes it self, or other reviewers, maybe u need to se someone to help u figure out what feeds on our anger, Cuse perfumes are art, and there's no bad piece of art, if doesn't pleases u does mean it doesn't please the others, after all fragrances are personal preference and every one has his niche taste.

🔥 FIRST IMPRESSIONS — RECEPTION BY AMOUAGE Reception feels rich, warm and incredibly polished from the first spray. There’s a spicy aromatic brightness up top, but what really catches me is the smooth woody, smoky depth underneath it all. As it settles, the incense and woods start to shine with a subtle sweetness that keeps everything beautifully balanced. Elegant, complex and very Amouage. First wear and I’m already impressed. 🔥❤️

I only have had the pleasure of testing this on a tester strip so far, but from what I smelled it’s gorgeous. Spicy coffee, middle eastern and gourmand, cinnamon-y and extremely well blended with good performance as always with the house of amouage.

This site has become a place filled with contempt and hate. IT'S TRULY BIZARRE. It's more like Facebook in that way.. I want to hear about the perfume, not how mad you are about the name bc you think it's lame.

yo arguing in the comments section of Fragrantica is *wild*. can anyone who's tried it tell me whether the coffee note lasts into the dry down? praying it does and I'm reading mixed reviews about that.

Its start green and citrusy for a minute, then the coffee smell kicks in, espresso like smell with a hint of smoked caramel maybe from the vanilla aand woods or sweet oud, i like it

Pierre Negrin does it again with this one!! Paper test reveals to my nose that this is a WINNER...can't wait to wear this one too!

Just tried it at Harrods. Can say straight away that it won't take the Essences best place, at least according to my taste. Third place, along with Reasons. Starts with a piney and coffee aroma, and in the background I can already smell cedarwood. The softness might also come from a very diffused leather tendency, perhaps some kind of labdanum trickery. Somehow, the coffee reminds me of what you can smell in the recent Terre d'Hermes Intense... which I think I substantially prefer. Not sure how it will develop yet, but the projection seems to be on the weak side. After 30 minutes, I need to get close to my arm to smell it. After 2 hours, it's a skin scent. Anyway, unisex slightly leaning masculine. PS: all in all, this is a subdued/muted version of Xerjoff's Golden Green. PPS: I know Ahmed (commenting after me) in person, and I can assure you that he is not being paid by any French/Omani conglomerate. It turns out that sometimes, we just have different opinions.

really hate the scent profile.. not mass apeal.. not worth to have full bottle atleast for me bigg NO... lasting 5/10 scent 3/10

It starts with a fresh peppery green opening...which is a little harsh and earthy & balmy...the woody soul of the perfume is there from the start...within few minutes this opening calms down where the coffee starts to appear mixed with creamy woody incense...the coffee here is short lived, subtle, you can detect the coffee within minutes from the start then gradually fades within the first hour... The heart here is identical and repeated in many Amouages dominated by the Omani incense mixed with some Patchouli which adds woody earthy undertones...the creamy woody vanilla appears more and more on going into the drydown phase trying to neutralize & sooth the dry woody core ...the woody notes are more dominated & prominent than the vanilla note... The performance is very good and it is most suitable for cold weather...Not suitable for blind buy ....No wow factor here ! And leans to the masculine side 💪💪 & not for the queens 👸🏼 IMHO Reception does not add any thing new with no creativity or innovation and will take the last position in the essence series...still Outlands on top of them. حصرى و لكن!... عطر بخورى خشبى ...بدايه قويه من الفلفل مع نوتات خضراء ممزوجه بالروح الخشبيه للعطر و الملموسه من اللحظه الاولى...بدايه غريبه فى الدقائق الاولى وسريعا تهدىء مع ظهور هادىء و ناعم لنوته القهوه ( تكاد تختفى تماما مع مرور الساعه الاولى )...فى الساعه الثانيه يظهر قلب العطر و هو مكرر و متشابه فى معظم عطور امواج ...البخور العمانى الممزوج بالباتشولى مع لمحات كريميه مستمره فى الظهور حتى الوصول للقاعده المكونه من خليط من الاخشاب الغارقه فى الفانيليا الكريميه ( الفانيليا هنا قريبه من فانيليا نيشان Ani)...النوته الخشبيه هى الاقوى و الاوضح و الفانيليا تظهر فى الخلفيه... اداء العطر جيد جدا و يصلح للاجواء البارده و يميل للجانب الذكورى و غير مناسب للشراء الاعمى ... فى رأيى المتواضع العطر لم يقدم اى جديد و يفتقر لابداع و رؤيه صانعه.... يظل امواج Outlands الافضل فى هذه السلسله .... I always used to take the piss out of Amouage by saying "oh look, here is Amouage Service" (meaning Search), but lo and behold, they now have a fragrance evoking imagery of a receptionist on the phone, whilst writing out an email. Wonderful. Also, the note listing is nothing new. Salmon honestly needs to go.

@jamesxhorne well, do you want a pat on the head and a cookie for pointing out "reception" comes in a few forms, all of which kind of prove my point? @11maura11 - the intellectually challenged usually are "fascinated" by the humdrum. Don't think many of us have smelled this, have we?

@Mr.bushido though perfumes can be an art form, i don't consider perfumes on the market that are for sale to be an art form. Imo art is a concept that does not exist in the real world as something that can be felt or experienced or defined by everyone in a objective manner, and its understanding and definition is personal, one might consider a clothing to be an art, one might even find a line drawn on a paper to be art, one might say art doesn't exist irl at all. However imo art should have 3 elements to be considered art by me: 1) the creation( can be anything, music, movie, a piece or a perfume etc... ) should communicate with others through EMOTIONS, and move others emotionally, or stimulate ones senses in a extraordinarily way. 2) it should be pure, honest and fully be expressed by someone by his will , freedom and his taste, and not by force or by the need to survive or the need to get something in return for the art. 3) it shouldn't be a tool to make money. a trading tool can never be honest and pure therefore can not be an art form. why? because to be successful you have to make sacrifices and fully analyze the market, see what makes sales and what doesn't, what move makes more money and what move is unprofitable, all that to figure what MAKES MORE MONEY and not to create something you truly want. as you can see, perfumes are there to make money, and are products that we pay our hard earned money for them, at least perfumes that you can buy. the perfume was asked by the brand to be built tailoring to specific audiences and the perfumer has to follow the rules, trends and the budget given, and he gets paid and if it meets the demand, the perfumes would make sales for the brand. this is a business, and i cannot consider it art. However an artist who makes something for himself, or for others by passion and love and isn't willing to sell it for profit or is willing to gift it for free can indeed be an art form, and a pure and beautiful one indeed. what a better way to communicate your inner deep feelings with others via emotions, scents, sounds, acts, instruments etc... and this is the TRUE meaning of art in my book. but either way one might have different opinion on art.

La recepción de Amouage no es una fragancia que te dé la bienvenida con calidez y comodidad; te invita a una conversación. La apertura es sorprendente y poco convencional. El limón espumoso, la pimienta rosa, el enebro, el pino y el cilantro crean una frescura aromática que se siente crujiente, vibrante y casi como la montaña. Sin embargo, justo debajo de esta frescura se encuentra una nota inesperada de café, que añade textura e intriga en lugar de dulzura. A medida que la fragancia se desarrolla, el incienso emerge junto con la madera de cedro y el pachulí, transformando la composición en algo más contemplativo y sofisticado. La frescura nunca desaparece por completo, sino que se infunde con un carácter resinoso y meditativo que se siente inequívocamente Amouage. En el secado, palo santo, vainilla, almizcle y cipriol crean una base suave y elegante. El resultado no es ni oscuro ni brillante, ni estrictamente fresco ni tradicionalmente amaderado. En cambio, la Recepción ocupa un espacio fascinante entre energía y serenidad. Lo que hace que la recepción sea memorable es su contraste. Huele a luz del sol entrando en una antigua habitación de madera donde el incienso ha estado ardiendo silenciosamente durante horas. La frescura, la espiritualidad, los bosques y la calidez sutil coexisten en un equilibrio notable. Para aquellos que aprecian las fragancias con personalidad y evolución, Recepción ofrece mucho más que simple placer. Es una fragancia que recompensa la atención y revela nuevas facetas a lo largo del día.

Perfectly befitting addition to the essences collection. It shares similarities to each in the line: Similarly powdery to Outlands, Reasons' palo santo and pine woodiness and Lustres spice and light subtle vanilla base. And, like all of them it is very creamy, woody and reminiscent of nature. I'm very happy that the coffee note is well pronounced and clearly noticeable. It does smell like coffee throughout, (like a cardamom spiced coffee to be precise) and also extremely well blended combining all notes into a creamy, woody, coffee flavoured 'essence'. It is peppery and a little sharp on application and the pepper and coriander notes last well beyond the mid, while citrus, pine and probably juniper combined add a hint of green, natural, aromatic freshness. In the mid/base the patchouli and a light vanilla become prominent and combined with the fresh, slightly sharp but sweet palo santo, it resembles a mixture of Reasons and Outlands, plus an appetising coffee note. I’m undecided if I will be pursuing a full bottle. Although I’m on the hunt for a coffee forward fragrance, and Reception is quite lovely, i feel it would be a bit redundant for me already owning Outlands as they are just a little bit too similar for me personally. Along Outlands, my favourite of the essences. 8.5/10
