Rose Aqor

There can be so much beauty in simplicity. If you want an amber rose fragrance you can do no better than this. This is extremely wearable, no notes are fighting and the evolution is subtle. It’s elegant to the max but not shouty or showy in any way. Sits close to the body as would be expected. I have layered with Epic 56 and that’s stunning if more projection is required. For some it will be too simple to justify the very high price point - a legitimate view. But to my nose this is just perfect and, let’s be clear, an extremely high quality creation.

The opening fools you into thinking this actually is a complex non-conformist blend but after thé initial enjoyment runs its course which is pretty short btw , it just turns into full on synthetic sandalwood molecule scent and nothing else !! Talk about a grand facade made out of plywood with not much behind it. Even if it was marketed as a pure molecular scent it would still be laughable because it's just synth sandalwood and nothing else. It is not like the synthetic santals are used as a back-bone to build upon and develope further/ nuance it up , it's just there by itself looking at you right in the eyes with no disguise whatsoever. I get the feeling that some creative directors can easily be fooled by the cheeky perfumers or maybe the créative director is in on it as well. lt is being marketed as an Attar an authentic attar would naturally be priced higher per mil and expected to have mostly or entirely naturals. It's the complete opposite here resulting in having the craziest margin for the brand.

I am a HUGE fan of Cécile Z! She's an absolute rock star. I had to live with Rose Aqor for a few days and this is my third edit. My first two takes were basically wrong. I hadn't experienced enough of this! First of all, this is absolutely stunning. I did finger dabs on both wrists, both elbows and behind each ear and it was perfect. So, probably if you're reading that you only need 2 or 3 drops, that's fine for an intimate projection, but as I described, it projects perfectly and it absolutely lasts! Like all day, and still can smell it on my wrists the next morning. There's a faint reminder of Epic 56 in there, but only in the mid to late part of the scent's evolution. And it DOES evolve! Even with the price, I'm absolutely considering a bottle of this because 6 drops per wearing means that it will last quite a while.

Expectations are high with an Amouage attar. With a long history of excellent compositions including homage and tribute, the prospect of new Attars is intriguing. Rose Aqor is an expertly composed Rose attar with a rich/slightly fresh rose front and centre and a multitude of spices as background players. This brings incense to the forefront within a few hours. It’s downfall is it’s comparisons to other Amouage fragrances between epic and rose incense, it really doesn’t tread any new ground. Having said that, the development of an attar does give a different experience. All in all a great attar, albeit not meeting the high expectations or breaking any new ground for the brand. No tribute level of opulence here, but still a worthy composition.

In Turkey, small roll-on perfume oils used to be sold in little glass bottles infront of mosques. Rose Aqor smells really similar to those. These kind of scents are usually worn by very religious men, with long beards and turbans, so in secular circles they’re often called “hacı oil” or “pilgrim’s scent”. Because of that and my own experience, Rose Aqor smells very basic and kind of ordinary to me. I can’t say much about whether it’s synthetic or natural, but it performs strong. Still, I don’t think it’s worth the price at all.

Initially comes off as a screechy herbal incense but quickly reveals a beautiful airy sweet rose with subtle incense. The opening is reminiscent of a more boring take on Epic 56 which was initially all I could detect, but it actually becomes an even better take on Opus XII - Rose Incense, making the already expertly done airy dense rose into an even more natural one. I am on a Rose kick yet again, so I tested this at NM yesterday. I could not detect any rose at all, the entire composition is pretty non descript. One drop of oil that SA smeared on my wrist lasted about 30 minutes. I didn't even manage to reach the mall exit before it was gone. Comparing this oil to the Arabian oils in the 20-60 dollar price range, I am amazed that anyone would actually purchase it at $540 bucks.

Agree with @Olimpe's review. Who is going to want to pay so much for an oil that lasts so little? The old glory of the Amouage attars is now history. For the price of the new Amouage attars you could get some of Henry Jacques's most exquisite oils (among others).

Around 95% synthetic... Heavily artificial smelling blend. This is not a traditional attar in any way.
