The Library Collection Opus III

I've had the set of Library sample sprays for a while, and I've had a sniff from a cap or little spritz on a wrist here or there without much thought, like a louche partier sampling random pills and pleasures without much memory the next morning. Well in the modern spirit of mindfulness it's time to commit and concentrate on each one in turn - sprayed heavily and fully worn for a day at a time. And so far, Opus I is good, II is OK, but III is where things get glooooorious. From the cap, I felt smugly sure this would be a simple violet bomb. But after spraying, the violet weirdly disappears, and out come these green and brown notes. What does Broom smell like? I don't know but I seem to like it whenever it's a note. And real thyme! You always see thyme as a note and it seems like fanciful marketing rather than an actual indication of ingredients, but here the thyme smells like you just squeezed your fingers down the branch to pull off the fresh leaves ... or more specifically (but obscurely) just like a Russian wild thyme tea they stocked at my local Eastern European grocer. On the off chance you've smelled such a tea, it's exactly what you get in the first hour. Then a creamy purple phase, violet and clove and vanilla/musk/ambrette. Extremely beautiful, slightly feminine but still perfectly wearable for me (at least as far as I care). The drydown is cushiony, cozy, heavy on sandalwood and vanilla on a soft white musk. Bedtime after the garden party. It's not a projection bomb or a longevity monster (though the drydown lasts a good long time). Just a beautifully balanced, deeply artful evolving journey. I know there's more good ones to come, but it's the first in the Opus series (tried in sequence) of which I’ll covet a full bottle.

Isn't that the most beautiful violet related fragrance you ve ever smelled!?? Go and sample this if you are a violet lover! For my nose it is the most fat, creamy rich violence fragrance in the world! Finally I found my violet signature fragrance:) But there is also soo much more in that thick layered fragrance: the smoky benzoine in the drydown makes me think of my beloved L'air du Desert Marocain in combination with the wonderful sweet gaiac wood and sandalwoody notes...it takes many times of applying this before you really can differ the ingredients: today I detected the mimosa in the opening!Gorgeous!! Yesterday it was yasmine in the middlenotes...wow!Violet and jasmine..could go perfectly well together!! Anyway its kind of a sweet fragrance but NOWHERE near a cloying sweetness as in Loulou or Angel or Poison..no a fine woody flowery sweetness that you can bear easily and admire even more...I even get a very soft vanilla tone today in the drydown and normally I do not like in my perfumes... What I do like best in this perfume is that you have the idea of wearing at least 4 different perfumes one after another! It really smells as a different perfume in the drydown..my husband had asked me three times yesterday:What are you wearing now? I smiled and answered: still the same stuff.. so I got myself the big bottle of it..luckily on ebay at less bucks...

This smells remarkably like Ombre Mercure, but like the "gourmand" version. Usually when I read "smells just like so and so" I take it with a grain of salt. In this case, it's very true. This isn't just a "slight reminder" it's like the same exact base fragrance tweaked a little differently to go a different direction in the drydown. I would have to wear them side by side to notice major differences in the first hour. The differences become more apparent in the second hour. III is a richer and creamier and has no rose, more vanilla, cedar, sandalwood and what smells like tonka. I'm absolutely in love with this scent and even though they smell extremely similar initially there is just enough difference to make me want all 3 (including Ombre Mercure Extreme). Mainly because I totally hoard anything I love and all smell alikes. But if price is an issue and you can only choose one, whichever you find at the best price would probably make you happy. Because if you like one of these, you will like all 3. This type of scent is my "powdery cosmetic" holy grail. I consider III the more indulgent and rich one. It's like gourmand meets powder puff. The gourmandish part may be too much for some people. If you find it a bit too indulgent, give Ombre Mercure a try. It doesn't have the gourmand edge.

This perfume is amazing !!!! All I want to wear is this and Ombré mercure as well as love in black . In the last few days I have only worn Opus III and it's so incredible , FRESH WOODSY sweet VIOLETS a touch of BENZOIN / VANILLA and a dose of ACETONE I also smell buttery IRIS and MIMOSA , it's just so fantastic . Classic but not old fashioned! Femine and timeless. LOVE !!! Update , I have mainly been wearing opus lll and ombré Mercure as well as insolence , just love violets. I find this one is the most old school out of the 3 and become my least worn in this cathegory as it's a little paculier and old school compared to the others. Still great but more nostalgic and specific , not as young as the others . Ombré Mercure is the smoothest ,buttery , woody violet out of them, balsamic and easy to wear. Just wonderful and resting happily on my top shelf. , insolence is the youngest and frutiest out of them. Oh and there is love in black and Misia , all in the same genere and all worth a try if you love this type of perfume. All centered around violets with a slightly different feel. Opus lll is definilty the most old school one out of them and something about it has a chanel 5 vibe , the powdery woody part with strong ylang ylang, the yellow flowers.

"Opus III" is a masterpiece. The opening violet and mimosa combo is to die for, the papyrus joining in adds a twist - after the old book smell this actually turns to smell like industrial glue, nevertheless my nose was stuck upon the scent for the entire journey and I loved the smell. I got dozens of compliments wearing it, even though I did not think I smell pleasing, because - really? sweet mimosa and industrial glue? When it's been around three hours on the skin it starts to get even better, I love how this perfume changes, you get the sweet mimosa and then BOOM in few minutes you are thrown over by a dry vanilla/clove/sandalwood (similar to Mona Di Orio Vanille, but much, much better) just to be greeted by the same mimosa again later. The drydown though is the divine vanilla-clove-sandalwood dryness/sweetness, truly pretty. I've never before have wanted and not wanted something so badly. On the one hand - this is truly unique and top quality, but on the other hand - come on, industrial glue! I tell myself that it will not be a good investment, though I seem to be addicted to my wrists especially in the glue phase.

dal momento che la violetta e la mimosa sono due tra i pochi fiori che riesco a tollerare, ho spruzzato generosamente il piccolo decant di opus III: che bellezza!!! è un vero peccato perchè i profumi amouage sono per me inarrivabili, stante il loro prezzo assolutamente impraticabile. l'accordo è sofisticato e di gran classe: un cyphre floreale ben bilanciato che si inaugura con una prima meravigliosa impressione di violetta e, appunto, mimosa. il "retroodore" è lievemente polveroso benchè ancora fresco. contrariamente ad altri amouage che trovo francamente soffocanti questo è invece un bouquet discreto, primaverile, che pian piano si assesta su un effetto confortevole e resinoso a base di benzoino ma anche di fave di tonka, rimanendo vicino alla pelle senza strillare. la caleidoscopica piramide olfattiva è talmente ben costruita da restituire non già le singole note ma un effetto complessivo di estrema finezza. profumeria di alta qualità, sì. ottimo.

Oh my! This is the one that got away. I discovered this house way too late and all the samples I’m enjoying seem to be discontinued. This scent in particular is so classical like it belongs in a library! It reminds me of a few perfumes I smelled from the Guerlain Les Legendaires line - Samsara? L’heure Blue perhaps? I don’t know. But it is beautiful. It’s a tad different with a bit more bite to it, but still delicate in a way that makes it traditionally feminine leaning. I love this style because it smells cozy, soft, decadent and rich like an Indian bread pudding made with sweet cream, butter, cardamom, cloves and dust of sugar. Yum. Actually people who like Amouage Lilac Love for the powdery notes might like this if they’re looking for the same effect but without the lilac and cocoa notes. FB worthy to me. Too bad it’s discontinued and the used options out there seem outrageously priced. Why Amouage, why?

Opens up as a bouquet of flowers and thereafter moves over to quite distinct vanilla smelling close to marzipan, a combination of vanilla, benzoine and musk. Middle notes that shortly after the opening come forward are violett, jasmine and ylang-ylang which adds a pleasurable complexity. The basenotes that make this combination avoid turning into a fleeting mess and instead a sweet complex flower are the distinct woods mixing with the initially mentioned marzipan: cedar, sandalwood and papyrus among others that I'm unfamiliar with. I would describe this as a flowery gourmand. A luxury version of Maison Martin Margielas "By the Fireplace" that has exchanged smokiness for flowers. Like the smell that you could imagine eating a Michelin star vanilla ice-cream with edible flowers in the middle of a field of flowers and noble trees.

Patchouli anyone? While generally humbled by the enormous amount of expertise in this community I somehow found the courage to write this, my first review. It was love at first sniff and an instant buy, back in 2011. By that time I started realising my preference for powdery yellow florals. Opus III has been my signature scent ever since (gonna be needing more backup bottles in a while). First I couldn’t describe it other than utterly well balanced, super smooth, somewhat powdery, somehow especially gorgeous in the sunlight, ideal for spring and early summer here in Sweden. Now I can clearly sort out the beautiful violet taking the forefront early, flanked by various other flowers, gradually giving room for some creamy wood. Now this: Am I the only one finding patchouli here? In my little nose it is quite obvious. Male, 51

I am enjoying the violet playing up against the vanillic-resin of the benzoin, and it does indeed warrant further testing. I'm in the lower part of the 'maybe' range, so, I'm gonna need to decant the 0.4 mls or so I have remaining from my sample into a spray bottle and try spraying it on, so that I can 'live in it', as that's the only real way to tell if a scent is for you. As I said before, I'm thinking probably no, but I gotta at least try, you know...? ***EDIT*** Loving the violet, but the whole mix is too soft and floral for me. I wish there was a greater presence of woods or resin, it just comes across as too airy and floral for mine. Still stunning, just not amazing enough for me...

What an experience Opus III is. Freshly crushed violets with silky mimosas, a soft dash of ylang-ylang, benzoin and nutmeg - that's what I smell. This is exactly an olfactory adventure, not conforming to trends, as Amouage states. Ombre Mercure was created by the same nose Karine Vinchon Spehner and they are reminiscent of each other. It doesn't smell baby-ish, makeup-ish, it sort of feels like reading a classic novel. The smells from the past, the art and skills, the quality. It kind of reminds me of the scent of wet plaster, just not so literal. Simply stunning and extraordinary. Since I love violets, I think, this is a must try for violets-mimosas lovers. +

Mmm...I'm definitely warming to this gourmandish mimosa beauty. I can see what others have noted. There is a similarity with Ombre Mercure but this sweeter, brighter and more powerful. It's truly a shape shifter. A big mimosa and violet opening. I could have sworn I detected rose geranium. I can smell that waxy lipstick smell. The dry down is much more vegetal, herbal and resinous but the mimosa and violet are still just about hanging in there. It continues to evolve with the sandalwood, wood notes and some spices becoming more evident. It has become a love. One of the most shape shifting beauties I have ever sniffed. Moderate sillage and longevity.

Briefly: it’s a masterpiece. I doesn’t really remind you of anything else because it’s so complex. Powdery and green at the same time. Not as suffocating and dense as other violet perfumes. Soft and strong at the same time. As most of Amouages not for every day use. Feminine, elegant, feels rich and expensive. You should try it before you buy. Update: be careful with it. It’s sophisticated and beautiful but after wearing it for a week it got really overwhelming, and I cannot stand it now just because I used it too much. Niche perfumery is not for every day. I don’t do it normally and regret I used this amazing perfume this way.

09 Dec 2017 I have been wearing Opus III for like 4-5 days in a row which is very odd considering my ever-changing scent preference and mood. There’s something about it that got me hooked! It’s very delicate, calming, relaxing, warm and addictive! Opus III is basically sweet, powdery, floral scent! Top notes lean on the feminine side but the dry down is what i like the most- woods and spicy soft vanilla! If you’re a bloke and you rock Dior Homme Intense, Carnal Flower, Sospiro Capriccio and the likes then you can pull this off as well!!!

Amouage copied 80% of "Balahe" when making "The Library Collection Opus III" !! "Opus III" is an almost exact (but sweeter/more" rounded") copy of "Balahe" edt (by LEONARD), which is discontinued. But "Balahe" can still be found for a good price on the internet !! AND best of all = you can get "Balahe" for a *MUCH* better price. And the black Balahe-bottle, with a silk red string is such a beautiful piece of art itself!! Oh, good I saved me some money by already owning this scent in Balahe! :)

this is quite the departure from common amouage 'punchy' scents. no bombastic, in-your-face, borderline offensive ingredients. this is more subtle, almost subdued and even mute. quite florally and woodsy. the balsamic quality provided from the resin (doesn't quite smell like benzoin to me...) adds a deep base to the scent, but for mine it's a little too un-amouage-ey. i'd expect this from l'artisan, to tell you the truth. look, it's nice, but it just doesn't fit that amouage profile...

I think this is what a French "Whorehouse" is supposed to (have) smell(ed) like. Alternatively, I am thinking Baroque Epoque with its ostentatious and OTT endless brocades and silk chiffons, row after row, frills after never-ending frills, golden lamee and more golden seams. Tassels and more tassels, everything in never-ending abundance, while Michaelangelo is painting the ceilings and the cherub angels are singing from high heavens, so bright and gay......in beguiling beauty.

Floral/ Woody Unisex MASTERPIECE! Think "L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme" genuinely floralized, glamourized, luxuriorized and updated into the 21st century and you'll get this. It is MIMOSA heaven on earth. I will wear this on my wedding.....or any day you wanna make love to yourself especially early spring/ summer. Yellow cheer that wakes up your senses after a long cold winter. This and Opus IV are my favs.

I get so much banana. Synthetic banana, like artificially flavoured banana candy, is prominent in the opening but calms down considerably after 30 mins or so. Also violets and powder. Nice and sweet, though not cloyingly so. I like it! I love the banana! For when I crave sweet violets but can't deal with the fruity and candy-like Insolence by Guerlain.

This is trippy. From a distance I get sweet violets and mimosa - shades of purple, pink and yellow that are so quintessentially feminine and lovely. However, when I sniff up close, all I can smell is the most vivid, can-almost-touch-it old, leatherbound book. What a beautiful scent. Truly ethereal and magical.

A tiny dab of this over a good smoky vetiver (Ajmal Vetiver is my preference) is a 10/10 perfume experience for me. I love Opus III but it's not a profile I would wear out and about, it needs grounding with the earthiness of vetiver, then it's perfect. I wear it alone when staying at home or going to bed.

Wow, just wow. Love it! Opus III is fantastic. I don't know many of the notes, but i just enjoy it very much. It's soft; it's sweet; it's like a macaroon of well blended edible florals. I don't know how to describe it. It's not masculine yet not feminine. The only downside of it is the sillage.

very sophisticated and elegant perfume which can be used for casual occasions , it is perfect for who likes long lasting well radiated light perfumes , i always thought that mimosa cannot match a masculine look but opus 3 changed my idea .

Nice powdery scent, Amouage quality of violet. It is also weaker and less attention-seeking or less distinct than many of their others so it is even possible to wear this in office, which is a plus.

Opus III is a real stunner. It's powdery and floral with a touch of spice that makes it really intriguing. It lasts forever on my skin too, which I love.

i am not one of amouage's fan , but this perfume is masterpiece

Well, after testing Opus III on my skin I don't hate it anymore. The first sniff on a card was off-putting and the ylang-ylang and banana notes really came out on the card, but on my skin it played out a bit differently. Opus III has an interesting opening that can be described in a single word: chaotic. It calls to mind the openings of some of the more daring scents by MPG. There is a whirlwind of clashing notes which creates a bit of a cacophony. Flowers, hay, something a bit dirty, a hint of indoles, powder, nutmeg or some other similar spice. I wasn't sure what to make of it except that I didn't really like it in a purely olfactory sense, but that it's interesting intellectually just trying to figure out what the heck is really going on. That's when I thought back to the premise behind these scents: inspired by libraries, dusty old books, dried parchment, writing utensils, the creative process. Things relating to the search for, and expansion of knowledge. And so, from here on out I tried to view Opus III's development with that concept in mind. That's when it hit me. Conceptually, Opus III is genius. The opening could just smell like a cacophony of notes, but keeping in mind the inspiration behind the scent, it becomes a bit clearer what one is smelling. The opening calls to mind the image of finding an ancient text up in a forgotten attic that is covered with years, possibly decades of dust. The leather binding is dry and the pages are stiff and yellowing, and the chest you found it in is a bit musty. None of this is unpleasant, although it isn't what one would call pleasant, either. It just is. Within a few minutes the chaos of the opening has settled down and a very dry and powdery note begins to emerge, along with a hint of banana. Thankfully, the banana note was much more quiet on skin than on paper, and it called to mind nothing more than some ripe bananas hanging on a hook over in the corner of the room. The dry and powdery note has a couple facets and calls to mind two things: the smell of chalk dust, and the smell of a certain type of paper that for some reason made me think of the smell of a Bible I had as a child. There is a hint of sweetness, but the notes remain very dry, but thick and lush. The texture of the scent is so very very full, very dense, slightly stuffy even, but never suffocating. A slightly rubbery note begins to emerge. Erasers. Yes, the smell of those all too familiar pink erasers. Dusty books and dry paper, chalk, erasers. This could very well be the smell of a small room where Einstein or Feynman pored over tomes of knowledge, jotted thoughts in a notebook and scrawled out equations on a chalkboard. The room is small and dusty and a bit stuffy but it is warm and comforting. It smells very old and yet familiar, comfortable. Over time the woods of the base press through the chalk/eraser/paper accord, modifying it so that everything smells older, drier. The whole room is now but an image on a piece of film tucked into a photo album in a chest that you will someday find in the future. An old memory, almost forgotten, now recalled in sepia tones. I don't know what to make of the scent. Conceptually, as I said, it is really genius. After settling down within the first 15 minutes or so, it becomes very comfortable to wear, although it is a very dry powdery scent with a hint of dry woods (papyrus, a gentle sandalwood). Not feminine, per se, and not masculine in any kind of modern sense. It is just old fashioned. It is more the smell of a time and a place and thus is not directly associated with gender, as the time and place recollected are unrelated to either gender as well. It's very strong and longevity is fantastic. Sillage seems moderate. I wouldn't wear this often, but it would be the perfect scent to wear while doing some intensive studying, especially when all cooped up inside during winter, whether it be in a dorm room, library, or fireside in the den. My rating: 4.7/5 conceptually, 4/5 subjectively. I may pick up a small decant or a few more samples for the few days this winter when it would really hit the spot. This is a one spray scent, in my opinion, so I could probably get away with a mere 2mL to last me all winter. Worth a sniff if you are into conceptual scents, or are looking for a dry powder comfort scent (think Or des Indes, although this is a bit less ornate/luxurious, although this smells higher quality and far more 'comfy').

Opus III, Gurmand like perfume You can detect a powdery scent till 10 minute. Iris is so clear in this range of time. Ofcourse, Iris isn't exist in notes, but I detected this kind of scent untill 10 minute after spraying. After 10 minute, the scent become a little sour and gormand like. This sourness is very light and serious, not facetious. Opus III is intersting. Incense, spice, gum doesn't exist is this perfume unlike other perfumes in this brand. This perfume categorized in floral group. but i think that Opus III is belong to gormand group. silage and longevity is moderate. ------------------------------------------------------- اپوس 3؛ عطری با تم خوراکی مانند تا ده دقیقه اول بوی پودر مانند داره. در نتهای ابتدایی عطر به گل ابریشم و گلی بنام اسیرک زرد اشاره شده. به شخصه این دو گل رو نبوییده ام ولی برای اینکه یک دید کلی از بوی ابتدایی عطر داشته باشید؛ این بو رو میتونم خیلی شبیه به عطر گل زنبق بدونم. بعد از ده دقیقه نتهای میانی عطر ظاهر میشوند و آکورد خاصی رو ایجاد میکنن که باز هم بویش غیر قابل توصیفه . ولی برای شبیه سازی ذهنی عرض کنم که بویی که داره شبیه به یک ماده ی خوراکی هست که قبلها به نام صورت مضحک Funny Face موجود بود و بصورت پودر مانند و بصورت ساشه هایی موجود بود که با ریختن اونا روی کف دست و لیس زدن اون یه حالت گازمانند و یکم ترش در قوه ی چشایی حس میشد که این اپوس 3 در این مرحله این حس رو تا حد زیادی تداعی میکنه. البته ترشی مربوطه اصلا آب دار نیست. یه ترشی کم؛ خیلی خشک و جدی هست اپوس 3 کار جالبیه . سبکش با بقیه ی کارهای آمواژ فرق داره. جز معدود عطرهایی از آمواژ هست که در اون از رایحه ی بخور و صمغ و ادویه جات استفاده نشده (البته از بالسام بنزویین در نتهای عطر سخنی به میان اومده؛ ولی خیلی تاثیر گذار نیست). با اینکه این عطر رو در گروه گلی طبقه بندی کرده اند؛ ولی به شخصه تا حدود یک ربع اول بنظرم بوی واضح گلی داره و مانند اپوس 1 نیست که بالای هفتاد و پنج درصد از کل رایحه اش حول و حوش گلها بچرخه. جالب هم اینکه این عطر رو در گروه گلها قرار داده اند در حالیکه به نظرم من در گروه گلها نیست تا حد نسبتا زیادی در گروه خوارکی طبقه بندی میشه و از طرفی اپوس 1 رو در گروه شیپغ قرار داده اند؛ که بنظرم در گروه گلها است!! ا

Amouage is one of my very favourite perfume houses, and I have been taken with the Library Collection, now sadly discontinued. Opus III is a bold, powdery, violet-forward scent, more left-of-centre than it seems at initial spray. I adore powdery iris/violet/lipstick-like scents, and OIII is in parts reminiscent of many greats, e.g. Guerlain L'Heure Bleue and, especially, Insolence come to mind; as does Francesca Bianchi Angel's Dust (lipstick plus mimosa) and, to a lesser extent, Frédéric Malle Lipstick Rose/Chanel Misia et al. However, while it has its moments, OIII isn't quite to my taste. OIII opens with bold, powdery, Insolence-style Parma violets. Powdery, hazily-sweet mimosa complements the violet - an intriguing accord I associate with Angel's Dust - and warm spices follow closely. It is a creative, unusual riff on bold, powdery violets that makes this classic floral note slightly less feminine and utterly refreshing at this point. Sweet, creamy white florals round it out as it develops, forming the heart of this scent alongside the violet note. There is a slight herbal nuance that gives a medicinal edge, and the violet note remains dominant. Some mimosa remains too. It becomes increasingly powdery as it dries down, with a predictable muskiness emerging in the base. Dry, powdery vanilla (the best kind) keeps things sweet during the later stages, while a resinous amber accord emerges. However, it runs out of steam somewhat here (on my skin at least) - the woody notes are smoky and harsh, and I get a curious plastic note. It becomes animalically musky as it fades, with remnants of violet remaining as it becomes a skin scent. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. It is a unisex, transeasonal day scent. I like the early stages of OIII best - I feel that the drydown is slightly disjointed and disappointingly synthetic, and as a result, this scent doesn't work for me. It has its moments, however, and I always appreciate creativity in perfumery, but I would buy Angel's Dust instead. 3/5.

Amouage opuslll isn't your typical amouage.it's not an Arabic/oudy-heavily spicy scent When first sprayed,a powdery blast of violet says hello to my nose.it reminded me violet in issey miyake pleats please EDP(the purple one)just less sweet(just in it's first minutes)this is the only variation of violet which I can get along with and even like it when I'm in it's mood Soon warm and creamy vanilla,benzoin and sandalwood showup and ground florals.violet is still the strongest note but it's not just about violet anymore(I can detect mimosa and a hint of iris and heliotrope too but not white florals).in this stage it reminds me guerlain l'heru bleu.they have this powdery flowers in a creamy woody base in common but there's no soapy-retro vibe in opus 3.as usual with amouages I was waiting for something to showup and ruin it for me.in this case it was clove which I absolutely hate.I was starting to give up on it as I usually don't have much luck with amouages.but clove didn't last much and completely faded away. Drydown is a likable combination of violet,vanilla,woods and a soft touch of musk,not much benzoin unlike it's middle phase which had loads of balmy benzoin and sandalwood. I'm not a violet or woody scents lover and this is not my type but all in all I like it.if I want to buy a violet fragrance,I will consider opus lll as one of my choices.unlike some other violet dominant fragrances it's not cold and sad.it doesn't have a synthetic clothes washing powder vibe.warm and smooth base notes go very well with powdery flowers and it's longlasting It leans more towards feminity,also wearable for men too.I prefer it in mild to cool temperature

I really like this. In general, I'm not a flowers (white or yellow) kinda person. My one (initial) complaint: I tried this three times. The silage and longevity, unlike what others have experienced was nil. Then I accidentally spilled it all over my desk. I mopped it up, using my wrist and hand. Well. Hmmm. That improved both issues immensely. So, I think this is a scent that you really have to give a few generous sprays--and a few more. My skin did not hold it until it was pretty wet. Having "finally" sampled it thoroughly, it's heavy on the JASMINE! broom, mimosa, YLANG!. Banana is definitely there. I don't get the thyme which would make it more interesting. The wood scents and gauiac are not really present that much for me. This is a lovely creamy scent, tropical without the coconut fruit aspect that so many tropicals have, so I like it because of that in part--it is more sophisticated and wearable. For those who are not completely into Jasmine scents (I'm really not), this works. I kept getting the Jasmine wafting up to my nose, but the Ylang is also competing. This would be one of the few "Jasmine scents" I would consider in a full bottle. But....compared to the other Amouage 'fumes, I have to pass. I also think there are similar fragrances out there for a bit less. I like it; I'm not obsessed enough to have it. I think it's pleasant, office friendly (do not recommend spilling it on oneself however), good for casual date night out, nice at a distance and up close.

Opus III on my skin to my sense of smell opened with a vibrant and intriguing explosion of warm spices, highlighting the nutmeg with an herbal infusion of thyme and something else [perhaps this broom that I can't identify] that adds a very striking aldehydic and green nuance in the opening. These aromatic spices will intertwine with a delicious and unusual fragrance of the carnation flower that I felt very easily and that already announces the predominant floral character of this composition to come. Soon we arrive at a captivating floral heart: with the intoxicating allure of jasmine that is beautifully balanced by the powdery dominance of violet, the rich fruity sweet yellow accord of ylang-ylang with the mimosa and the bright, citrusy, clean facets of orange blossom. Its construction balances an intense and full-bodied floral core with an exceptional quality that refers mainly to violet and mimosa flowers floating and releasing their pollen gently in a breeze over flowering fields. The base will unfold as a place of aged woods. With creamy sandalwood and cedar providing a woody structure, complemented by the velvety musk of the ambrette seed. A soft vanilla, the slightly smoky woody depth sweetened by guaiac with benzoin, and finishing with the rough dryness of papyrus. All this referring to an old dusty place like a Library, for example, as this collection suggests. This drying is responsible for saving the fragrance from being overly feminine. *Batch: 01/2013

Nice and feminine. No, this does not smell like baby wipes...unless you think all powdery perfumes smell like baby products. It's a powdery violet on a background of wood and vanilla. I have a few original samples from Amouage and yes, this is almost identical as Terry de Gunzburg Ombré Mercurie, which I have a full bottle of. This is a classic powdery perfume, like Teint de Neige from Villoresi. Nothing groundbreaking, but well done like you would expect from Amouage. If you are looking for a powdery smooth perfume this is a great choice. Longevity is great and silage just right. This is not a crazy scandalous perfume, but a lady like fragrance for a polished young women that is spotless from head to toe and wears her designer flats while sipping a macchiato in downtown Milan. She enjoys her break while contemplating countless shopping bags besides her table...

Opus No 3 starts off as a strong, powdery floral, far too strong in my opinion. Of course I sprayed it, since that’s how it came, in its little white coffin-in-a-tube, so I probably OD’ed on it. The opening is mostly extra-strength violet, bitter-almondy mimosa, and something that smells like leather treatment chemicals. It’s way too much, too soon. If there is any banana in the mix, it’s such an overripe, decaying one that it hardly qualifies as a banana any more and is pretty much outmatched by the screaming ionones, heliotropin (?), and bitter almonds anyway. The powdery floral notes last for hours, persisting into the generic powdery-woody drydown. This is my least favorite of the Opus series. I would wear No 1 or No 2, but there are so many nicer powdery- violet-floral scents floating around that I see no need to subject my nostrils to this one.

I tried this a while back but reserved judgement for when I had a wearable sample. Just not to my taste Opus III. The mimosa although not entirely unpleasant, is just not my bag baby. It's quite vanilla really I get the ylang ylang too and all in all it's a complex fragrance. It reminds me of when I used to collect samples on a weekly basis from a wet wipe company to test in my lab. This is very reminiscent of what the factory smelled like...and I'm not be cruel to Opus III the smell was complex and quite nice really. It's a clean smell which has not spicy tricks up its sleeve like the typical Amouage thing, also this has a vague synthetic banana thing much like reflection man. Luckily that goes away in the dry down in fact everything dies down and you're left with an agreeable if not a little floral smell.

Smells just like Terry de Gunzberg Ombre Mercure, one of my absolute favorite fragrances ever. It's difficult to tell the two apart. It makes sense though because the perfumer behind Opus III, Karine Vinchon Spehner, was a contributor to Ombre Mercure. Opus III is a warm, sweet, and soft powdery cosmetic powder-esque fragrance, rich, luxe, and enveloping. Sometimes I get a Meteorites powder vibe from both. It is pretty linear (I prefer my perfumes to go through stages) but the complexity makes up for that. People have said that Ombre Mercure is a bit Guerlain-ish and I agree, and this fragrance has that Guerlain feel too. Anyone who is into makeup-y perfumes, Guerlain, and/or powdery purple flowers needs to try this or Ombre Mercure.

Violet floriental. Complex and retro - if you don't like old school aldehydic fragrances, avoid. Very reminiscent of White Diamonds but far better ingredients. Somewhat reminiscent of old school Guerlains, L’Heure Bleue in particular, but without the fruitiness; it's *all* floral here. This is pretty much your basic floral/ aldehyde over spices and woods fragrance in the classic style, but with Amouage quality ingredients and an adept hand. The thing that sticks out the most for me is the dominance of the violet; you can't really make out most of the notes here but the violet does manage to stand out. It's a really lovely, classic fragrance. Languidly luxurious.

Another masterpiece..I'm totally impressed by Amouage, every perfum I tried beautifully composed, well blended symphonies. Opus III is tenderness and sensuality in liquid form.It's sensual from the opening until the end.Like a soft kiss on the skin...Powdery violet touch in the opening, after a few minutes the cloves and nutmeg notes makes the scent complex. The middle phase is flowery swirl with the spices, and the drydown is that sensual touch: semi-sweet spiced vanilla with some benzoin and ylang-ylang. I have very strong personality but I would wear this fragrance on my girlish days..:)Georgeous! Update: Bijan Nude is a nice association of this scent.

I like this very much, but it's not as special as several other creations from Amouage. Very nicely balanced, slightly woodsy vanilla floral. Sweet, and absolutely non-offensive (with the single exception of the first sniff, but only because it reminds me of rotten fruit, rather than the presence of any animalistic notes). I agree with Moosa about the resemblance to Creed's Love in Black, though this stuff is much nicer IMO (not sickeningly sweet and lacking that kid's bubble bath note which overwhelms in Love in Black). I am on the fence about buying a whole bottle but may do so in the future. Will probably start with Opus V which I like even better.

Lovely powdery Floriental from this eclectic house. The scent briefly opens with herbal notes of mimosa, thyme and slight spice before it moves to a dense firm heart of ylang, jasmine, violet and orange flower. The perfume settles on a sweet benzoin bed accentuated with hints of sandalwood, musk mallow, papyrus and vanilla. The feminine leaning scent has moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. Like a beautiful exotic night garden in bloom. Enjoy!

this starts out very herbal on me. i think it's thyme and mimosa i get at first, followed by more greens and herbs and then a cool violet. i sense a strange floral, which must be ylang ylang, but it smells different than usual to me. later there are some soft woods and clove, with the barest hint of benzoin and vanilla. later it turns into a soft powdery fluffy cloud of violet and vanilla but it's not sweet. it morphs a lot from beginning to end.

I bought a sample because I love Ombre Mercure, but this one is too sweet. Ombre Mercure has more sandalwood and is drier. They are similar but I love OM so much more. I did a review on OM already so imagine that review but with a very sweet dry down and you have Opus III.

There's something decidedly herbal and gritty in top notes - thyme? I'm not getting any flowers, but it can be related to the current weather (cold and gloomy). The drydown in really good though - warm, balmy. The drydown reminds me a bit of Gloria by Cacharel.

7.5/10. Opens with violet, then coriander. Quickly changes and the spices and wood combine to form leather. The violet returns occasionally. After 2 hours, warm sweet spice like 24 Faubourg.

Glowing ambery floral This time Amouage decides to go on with an ever lasting, even neon-like floral supported by a massive synthetic woody-amber base (plus a huge dose of Iso-E). Orange flowers, dusty violets resembling a note of iris and sweet mimosa pulsate like a monochord orchestra for hours and hours. Nice at the beggining but after some time you’d wish you could change the tune (or chord). Big pass. ------------------- Floral ambarado radiante Esta vez Amouage decide ir con un floral radiante y eterno soportado por una gigante base sintética de maderas y ámbar (sumado a una alta dosis de Iso-E). Flor de naranjo, una violeta polvosa que nos recuerda al lirio y una mimosa dulce (acacia dealbata) que pulsan cual orquesta un mono acorde por horas y horas. Agradable en un inicio pero después de cierto tiempo siento como si quisiera cambiar la canción (o el acorde). 5/10

As I am not a huge fan of yellow floral scents, I did not have high expectations for this fragrance. That being said, there was a brief moment in the opening that I did enjoy a beautiful violet flower note, but alas it was drowned out by the headache inducing mimosa. The rest was downhill from there for me. (84)
