The Library Collection Opus V

Oh boy, another Amouage I love. Very different to the others I love from Amouage tho. Much more powdery, but finally, finally a powdery scent I can wear and actually thoroughly enjoy! The Iris in the early stages reminds me of the iris in L`Artisan Traversee du Bosphore, that lingering sweetness, not nearly as intense as Traversee here though yet certainly present. The surrounding notes in Opus V make those familiar Iris aspects a little more incensed though - and very slightly smoky in character. I think we are talking about the Oud in Opus vs Leather in Traversee here, as oud and leather notes can give off similar effect as note descriptors occasionally - which is perhaps what's bringing the familiarity. A slight leatheryness. But this is so much more than Traversee. There's much, much more complexity here. The florals playing with the other notes bringing in a soft sensuality, the oud also a light tanginess. That slight bit of animalic lingering in the background adding complexity. All dancing and playing together harmoniously with the Iris who plays centre stage to all of these notes. The Iris being the main player and yet so complimentary and in no way oppressive to the rest. More a state of constant interaction with the other notes drawing the best from them yet still remaining centre to them. Very complimentary. For me, the rum aspects tend to become more noticeabe after about 1.5 to 2 hrs into the drydown where the notes sort of meld together somewhat and produce a mild rummy sweetness. It's very nice actually and adds to the complexity. I still have that leathery iris but it's a little less obvious at this stage. A little more melded in. Amazing stuff here folks! It's one you really have to wear to fully appreciate. Words aren't always sufficient enough to encapsulate this kind of tapestried beauty. It's to be experienced! It's all pleasure, all Amouage and all good! (...ok sounds like a buy line but if you've experienced the kind of tapestried love Amouage is capable of delivering you'll know exactly where I'm coming from :) This is highly wearable for a male as well, and indeed also very unisex. Take part my friends and experience this one, it's really rather brilliant!

After reading all previous reviews, especially the ones describing disappointment, I came to conclusion that this must be one of this fragrances which development is HIGHLY dependent on skin chemistry. On some it will simply stink. On other it will turn into heaven. I'm in the lucky group whose skins chemistry agrees with Opus V. On my skin Opus V smells divine. It radiates warmth and comfort from my wrists which I cannot stop smelling and makes me think about sitting in a garden on a summer evening in August just after sunset but before dusk. It has a very light 'metallic' note which gives the drydown a kind of sharpness, but still it's a warm sharpness. I think it will be perfect for summer and I cannot wait to get a full bottle of Opus V! This is one of my ever favourites, it's been now in my cupboard for over 10 months. I really like the way it smells on me. However this is only my individual perception - my colleague at work asked me once if I can smell 'something weird and medicinal' - I figured he was referring to my perfume, so I presented my wrist with a question: This? 'Oh yeah!' and then he wrinkled his nose. We both started to laugh. The point of my story is that I really dislike people saying: this perfume is horrible. It's horrible for YOU. It doesn't suit YOU. YOU dislike it. But please, don't generalise: after all it's only YOUR subjective opinion. Paraphrasing the saying (I cannot remember literally): Somebody's heaven is somebody else's hell'

Well! According to the shop assistant I was only 'allowed' to try two of these! She believes from the couple of times I've been in (pffft!) that she 'knows what I like..and these two will be the ones' I'm a perfume lover...I'll try them all thank you very much! She was referring to Opus V and Opus III BTW which are quite different, maybe it was the ones she likes...who knows? I've got a sample vial of Opus VII and it's plain outrageous... It should be called 'Omen' instead of Opus I think as it has a devilish opening which actually turns into a great drydown. So that's my experience of the Library collection so far...I'm getting through them steadily. As for this one Opus V I have to say it's very pleasant and has some the complexity I've come to expect from Amouage but maybe not as much in this collection generally. It's a sweet one this with a top note of iris which is pleasant can't say I found it all that boozy which is a plus. Opus V is alright by me...It has a gentle vibe to it. Having got a proper sample to wear now I can conclude that this is my favourite of the Opus collection. Only slight contrary to what I said above it is boozy, in the best kind of way though...rum & wood this is absolutely what I'm about and it's super sweet with iris. I actually really love this and didn't think any of the Opus library collection would tempt me to buy but this one satisfies my sweet tooth so I might just have to get it.

The best example for development in the perfumery world. And the best examples for a synthetic perfume. It is not fully synthetic but it has a huge amount of synthetic molecules. Pure balance and beauty. And this was the inspiration for the perfume. In the past libraries and books are the reference for the information but today internet and digital libraries are the first reference for knowledges. Former director for Amouage Christopher Chounge wants to presents that development in a perfume. The Famous OPUS V by Jacques Cavallier. One of the latests Cavallier creation the I really love. Musky Powdery Floral Woody Pure white brighting full with salicylates (molecules with clean sweet silky floral charismatic). In the first impression you will think it's a simple blend, Vice versa. Imagine flat plains covered with snow you think its empty but with focusing you will start seeing a snowman a polar bear and white rabbits. Thats scene was full with lives. Brighting and delightful opened non-indolic white flowers mixed with clean earth orris accord. Silky powdery with wet florals impression like a water jars fully with floral petals a Jacques Cavallier DNA with most of his perfumes with soft cardamom touches. The basenote are drier sandalwoody rich too much white musk and a little animalic musk so its more clean than dirty.

Hello Fragrance enthusiasts, I first introduced to Opus V with one of my close friends. I honestly didn't like it back then but when gave it is time and smell it again in a boutique I completely changed my feelings towards it. I started loving the smell of spices mixed with rum and bunch of flowers mixed together. The wood also played a fantastic role in this particular fragrance to create this fabulous combination. The fragrance became my favorite and I've started using it as my signature scent. I got a lot of compliments on it and people started noticing me around by only smelling this perfume. The passion to Amouage house has developed more and more and I've started wondering around the other perfume of the collection and other lines maybe. I loved the oriental incense mixed up with Leathers and woods and other fabulous combinations. Opus V is absolutely one of the best perfume I have ever owned. It's so refreshing so formal and unique. It is a blend of rum and iris and leather and different kinds of woods and a little animalc note from civetta. It has a fantastic projection and very long lasting. I would give it 10/10 With Love,

Arguably the lightest of the entire OPUS range and surprisingly pleasant. Not a "wow" though, rather more intriguingly gentle, docile, soft and tender. I find it rather suitable for summer which is rare, considering most AMOUAGE scents are so heavy they can only really be used in the colder time of year. We have a very cool and wet opening with Rum and Orris Root, two very on trend ingredients. The floral bursts following are a wet iris and a morning rose: not a rose in full bloom oozing its potent pollinator calling siren, more of a subtle wet rose on a cool morning. Later on the creamy vanilla waxy sweetness of rum and dry woods return to give it a warmer depth. It reminds me a bit of AZZARO "Acteur" which was a rather revolutionary fragrance in the late 80ies/ early 90ies which I wore with great enthusiasm. This could be a great alternative to those who do not like the louder "Reflection"! Surprisingly pleasant and light.

أعلم وتعلمون أصدقائي أن أمواج تستخدم انقى المواد واغلاها واثمنها في عالم العطور، هذا النقاء والبهاء يتجلى في هذا العطر، من أنقى ما مر على أنفي، خفيف لطيف مريح هاديء، لا تشعر أن هذا هذا العطر يملك هذه القوة والجبروت في أدائه وثباته وفوحانه، كثير من العطور تتعطر بها وتشعر أن العطر مختفي ولكن في واقع الحال أنه يفرض نفسه بكل قوة وعنفوان، هذا العطر من تلك العطور. وصف العطر هو عطر سوسن بالمقام الأول مع اخشاب، إذا كنت تحب عطور السوسن على غرار ديور اوم انتس وبارفام وفالنتينو اومو وبرادا لوم والخ من عطور السوسن، هذا غالباً سيعجبك، لا أقول أنه يشبه لتلك العطور، لكن السوسن تجعل من تلك العطور تحمل روائح متشابهه وعلى نفس الخط العطري، تخيل معي ديور اوم انتس ولكن برائحة الطف واخف مع لمسة ياسمين واخشاب، تقريباً هذا وصف العطر.. الأداء والثبات ممتاز جداً، السعر المناسب لهذا العطر 700 ريال ( 200 دولار فأقل).. هذا كنت تحب العطور الخفيفة اللطيفة رائعة الحبكة، وتحب عطور الورد وبشكل خاص السوسن هذا العطر لابد من تجربته واقتنائه، ولن تندم..

i found this RIDICULOUSLY cheap and just bought it. basically half price and i didn't think twice. the beginning is just pure poetry, the salty, sweaty bitter oud smell works perfectly with the sugary sweet iris. they play off each other like good cop / bad cop. occasionally one overpowers the other and then vice versa. then, the oud wins out and other players come to the fore; rose, some white floral and other hard-to-discern qualities. whilst all this is going on, the rum is overseeing EVERYTHING, watching its underlings closely and intently, kinda like that kung fu boss that lets its minions do their thing until the very end. this is inDEED a masterpiece. i don't think anything else amouage has put out (with the exception of some of the arabic oils) comes close to the majesty and depth. there's literally a party going on when you smell this. utterly mesmerising, five-plus stars.

#The first time I sniffed this, I instantly fell in love. Against many other opinions, honestly I cannot detect a note in that one that stinks! But it is only my humble opinion of course:) Here is what I get: The opening blast of frest aoud and a waxy, creamy Rose! It is strong yes, but phantasticly so.. then, a few minutes after the intitial blast of agawood and rose, a strong orris note appears, not the flower but really the root!Cold and sophisticated at once..alas the orris is fading away a little to soon for my taste but then a gorgeous woody rose note (re)appears and I m satisfied once again. I cannot smell the rum note, only a litte civet but not too strong (which I don t like). The scent lingers for hours and hours.. great sillage AND staying power!! That and the wonderful scent is what I d ask of my favourite parfums. A really new favourite of mine.

I bought the full size of this perfume in 2016, it is very nice, very warm and sexy reference iris perfume, very high quality, polite, naive and elegant, when I first smelled it I said wow, what a perfume really fascinates people, iris themed perfumes are usually close to the skin and weak, this perfume breaks all taboos, it gives lessons to other iris themed perfumes in terms of longevity and spread, but after a while I felt something was wrong every time I took the opus v bottle in my hand, I realized that it was a woman's scent and every time I took it in my hand the feminine feeling pushed me away, now I just spray it on my wrist and enjoy it, for me it is a real women's perfume and a legend, I have a full size bottle from the first release, so I am lucky

It is oudh based smell , very strong indeed, it is styled on arabian oriental smell, to some it may stinks ( to me some of creed smell stinks like toothpaste, might as well use a toothpaste as perfume ) but give it time to develop, it produce the smell of agarwood or oudh which very expensive , ( high quality csmbodian oudh cost about US 1000/ 6 ml ) If ones want to experience the smell of rich king and prince of arab should try it. an alternative cheaper way of feeling like a rich arabian king.indeed it is a gift of king.

FANTASTIC.. Simply fantastic I know my oud and this is far from a potent oud aroma, very European not Asian at all, very beautiful, very long lasting and smells of sugar cane again and again.. Beautiful & fantastic if you like sweet smells and can afford the price of sheer luxury get it.. A short update five days after spraying this fantastic EDP on my neck some of it must have landed on my jacket and I can still smell the aroma like it was put on yesterday.. serious longevity..

OpusV is the Opus of a high calibre most definitely. A very smooth gentle creamier version of jubilation25. It is a stnner. This is rally not as unisex as it is masculine. The masculinity appears in the final base dry down. In final stage a exquisite gentle sudective hybrid deer musk. Very wonderful reminds me of the former attar bahjah by Amouage, in the mildest form in the dry down. This Opus is stunningly attractive for men. 10 shining stars

I sprayed my 1998 feragamo femme today and was reminded of opus v. The cold, dry note dominates w similar support from something salty and v pale green. Turns out this is the same perfumer decades apart. Opus V is so interesting. I wanted towear it but the rum and faint but sharp civet made it difficult. Yes, the synthetic molecule is challenging,but this is the man who invented it. How can something be so subtle yet demand so much attention?

I love that ultimate powdery about this. So elegant. Definitely for winter, night ideally and just 2 sprays, otherwise it will be really overwhelming. You will be noticed immediately while wearing this. It can lasts for days on clothes. Definitely not for everyone but worth to try. Personally I do not wear it very often because my gf does not love it at all. But other women like it. Scent: 9/10 Longetivity: 10/10 Projection: 10/10

Very good, even amazing scent! I like the bitter start most. Having just tried and even bought The British Bouquet by Atkinsons, I thought that they are very similar. Comparing them hand by hand at the same time, it turned out that BB is sweeter kind and Opus V is more bitter or oudy, I don't really know what that note is that makes the difference. But they both have a similar base, BB disappearing quicker.

The best iris perfume i ever smelled is prada infusion d'iris. Still praise it for being well blended. Opus V however smells raw and straight forward in a niche way. I still prefer prada IdIris over this. But the sillage & lastingness is monster contra to prada. Very pleasant and office safe too. I just need more of its potential to justify its asking price. Opus V could be better.

Well this is wonderful on me. The Orris butter and oud predominate throughout. So, according to "Smyle12" I'm not only a "fag-head" but I "smell like shit". Really Smyle12? That's the best you can muster? May I suggest you concentrate on your English grammar rather than spreading stupidity. At least try to make complete sentences while you bring everyone down. C. G.

A disturbing and overtly synthetic mix of rum, iris, oud, and some very dry scratchy woody note. It's cold and mechanical - the perfect signature scent for cyborgs and/or masochists. (I'm a fan of most everything by Amouage, but I absolutely despise this scent!)

in love with this at first sniff! the boozy-oud-rose works sooo well. it's a masterpiece! the boozyness is amazing. i totally love it. all components are in total harmony with each other. love love love it. now to track down a bottle for sub-$250...

i love it i didnt smell something like it unique you could say a kind of synthitc lemonsic smothing . so strong but in good way i give it 7 0f 10 the nose behind it is Jacques Cavallier the dry is the best but in summer smells bad

Beautiful boozy iris. woods are soft and in the background, not super prominent. Quite intoxicating yet very gorgeous. Not animalic for me whatsoever, I find this easy to wear. Lasts plenty and projects decently, I love this!

iris... professional perfumer,,very strong..it opens with a magnificent accord of iris ... rich.arabian oriental smell...another Amouage..very diffrent..Amazing and very strong scent.....a long lasting fragrance

One of the most addicting scents in my collection. Huge compliment magnet. I mix this with POAL and good God Almighty is it a heavenly combination. Longevity 10/10 Uniqueness 10/10

Opening still amazing (anyone knows any fragrance that has the same opening but last longer?) Dry down is a plain mix of iris & jasmine like florentine iris from Zegna

You will smell the amazing notes at the opening which doesn't last for long (30 minutes), then you get several hours of iris & Egyptian jasmine

definitely a woody and floral perfume, great for anyone. opens floral, but i smell the oud and rum not long after.

It smells so good but very very very weak. Don’t buy this for god’s sake. Amouage must learn respect costumers.

You've never smelled something like this before, because it never existed prior. The internet presents disparate concepts and cultures, blending and reinterpreting them to produce something new altogether. This effect is more pronounced across art forms like music, where the meeting of subcultures produces completely new genres, in turn inspiring new genres to be found in the future. The effect of the internet on perfume culture is less clear cut. On one hand, a growing fragrance community exists online, not only influencing scent decisions but also creating and sustaining a market for niche scents. On the other, a large cross-section (possibly even a majority) of perfume buyers remain completely insulated from fragcom, yet are considered the dominant force in the market. Do you solely smell what is available in store or do you seek out oddities discovered online? Here, Opus V refers to the rarely cited internet as direct inspiration for its scent. What might popular notes of oud, rose or iris smell like if you've never smelled it before? How might you interpolate countless reviews to 'smell' the scent through your mind's nose? Opus V personifies that metaphor. V is shaped by rose, jasmine, iris and oud, yet smells completely unlike the aforementioned notes. There is an incredible sweetness from the start. I hate using the phrase, because it doesn't reveal new information, but it truly is well-blended. I cannot tell where one note starts and the next begins. Rose, jasmine, oud amalgamate to form a chimeric flower, growing in the matrix. Iris blooms from its heart. Its form here is so unique I haven't experienced a similar likeness. The sweetness is lolly like (grape-like), yet powdery, sugary like sherbet. The powdery effervescent quality gradually recedes, reaching a stable, rounded sweet accord. It's hard to make out oud but it plays a supporting role, adding body to the sweetness and allowing the scent to project both light and shadow. It never veers into darkness like oud dominant scents. Iris retreats further towards the base, projecting a darker sensual, but still playful, allure. The scent presents only subtle transformations throughout its life, refraining from dramatic shifts. However, it is a strong performer, projecting for over 4 hours but lasting on skin for over 16. This is a very fun, sweet not-floral-not-oud scent. Opus V is a fantastic reinterpretation of notes that I, and likely many of you, love.

I wanted to do something interesting and try "The Library Collection" one after the new one. Because I really loved the new bottle (the non-chubby one). That bone-dry vortex-like feel combined with the powder was really lovely. This version (before this renewed one) starts warmer and sweeter. The rum and creaminess are much more prominent, while the newer one has more woodiness and dryness. I am making my way through Amouage's (sadly, now discontinued) Library Collection and I was especially excited to try Opus V, as it is billed as an iris-forward scent - perhaps my favourite note of all. Instead, it is a boozy iris-rose-oud with a woody-animalic drydown - a combination I don't think I've encountered before. In fact, it could be utterly unique. The first half is masterful, but unfortunately it runs out of steam after about two hours, becoming a one-dimensional ambroxan skin scent that lingers overnight. OV has a very boozy opening, thanks to the rum, giving way to powdery florals.The iris-rose accord is certainly present, powdery and slightly lipstick-y, but remains bolstered by the boozy, slightly balsamic opening. Woody notes creep in early on, with an unmistakeable soft oud note detectable. There is a soft sweetness throughout, alongside a musky undertone, adding a softly animalic blur that becomes dominant as it progresses. It fades to the everlasting, single-note ambroxan skin scent. Sillage is moderate, and longevity is long-lasting - unfortunately the ambroxan base is the longest phase. Overall, it is a scent of two halves; initially, it is sweetly balsamic with powdery florals and an excellent use of mild, woody oud, becoming increasingly animalic as it begins to dry down. Then comes the banal, persistent ambroxan. Perfectly unisex, OV is initially a creative, masterfully-composed, high-quality olfactory artwork, OV is remarkable in its uniqueness. The second half is a big let-down however. 3/5.

A mature, niche take on iris. I tried Opus V (O5) for the iris/oud combination. I didn't find that here but I found a lovely scent nonetheless. Lipsticky iris opens for O5, & is mixed with fresh jasmine & classic smooth rose to create a beautiful floral/powdery smell. The iris takes a backseat later, & the rosey jasmine leads. That smell is then made woodier & richer with the remaining 4 notes: woodsy notes, ambery rum, oud, & the lightest hints of civet. The civet is very well done here: no fecal smell whatsoever yet it adds a certain class and maturity to the scent. There is a certain freshness to it from the jasmine that doesn't feel right calling it "fresh". But more of green & floral jasmine. Almost soapy. Powdery, leathery, rich, ambery, jasmine. O5 is a beautiful scent! Quiet mature and classy. While it indeed smells niche, it is an easy to wear fragrance. Works well for date nights or formal occasions. To some, O5 will be a love from first spray. I can tell you that. Mature, unisex, cool weather, night time wear. Opus 5 gets a big "Like" from me!

A big, opulent powder puff of jasmine and iris, atop a rose/oud heart adding some mystery and luxury. The woods are light and transparent (Iso E Super?), and I'm surprised they listed civet as it's used in a classic (viz subliminal) way, how they used to do it without mention. This makes me (a guy) feel like my SO went out for the day and I nipped a few sprays from her stash of a classic Chanel or Dior because it smells so good on my skin. This would have blown up if released in the '80's as a ladies' powerhouse with an edgy name, like "Contagion" or "Embezzlement for Women". The late drydown (which lasts for-ev-er!) gets more synthetic/rosy floral, and reminds me most of Lalique’s Perles.

This is the latest addition to my collection from Amouage. It's a performance beast. It stays on you forever. It's boozy in the very beginning but turns floral quickly and stays that way to the bitter end. It's certainly unisex. I can see this on a lady as well as on men over 30. Since the smell is not sharp even in the beginning, I used 5 sprays in total when I first opened the bottle. And my wife told me the smell was very strong even after 5 hours. So 2-3 sprays is all you need for a morning to evening performance. It's a nice fragrance and I dont regret spending that money. Would I buy it again, probably not since this will easily last min 5 years.

This fragrance has thick blankets of smoke, and oud with citrus playing hide and seek. With each sniff you can smell the 3 different layers. Smokiness gives way to the oud with the citrus not far behind. It can be an office wear if you are confident enough. Couple of sprays on your chest and hair will last good 6-8 hours. The sillage is fair but the projection is massive for the first hour. It can be a too much in close quarters. It is not worth a full bottle if you don't like smoky oud. Try a sample before you buy. Starts very powdery and feminine but goes more unisex quickly. The iris gets tempered by the woods while the rose and jasmine start peaking out. The rum also helps make it a bit more unisex as well. Overall, pleasant iris forward floral scent that should work for most any season. I don't find anything off putting so it should be safe. Any woman should be able to wear it comfortably and men that aren't afraid of something going slightly feminine.

opening is extremely harsh but dry down is like SUPER WOODY (pencil shaving type). Spray it away from nose & let it linger in the air to get super good aroma else if you spray it close to your nose it will CHOKE YOU ! Bought FB immediately after trying at Boutique . Its very unique btw & is strictly WINTER FRAG. Try before buying. and i somewhat agree to DARK-X review ... but this perfume needs time to grow on you :)

Interesting floral woody musk from Amouage. The scent opens with boozy rum and orris before moving to the floral heart which is comprised of rose, jasmine and iris. The perfume settles on a powdery musky bed of synthetic civet, woody notes and slight oud. Refined and classy, the unisex scent has moderate sillage and very good longevity. Recommended if you like dusty powdery florals that gently linger on skin. Enjoy!

Amouage Opus V (2011) - Boozy Iris - @jcavallier creates a perfume accord I rarely see in oud creations. Mostly create Oud together with a Rose-saffron combo, but this one is unique: Rum, Iris, Oud-woods. The result is a creamy, rooty, and earthy Iris with a boozy top note and a warm and woody backbone. Its as if it mimics Iris flowers caressing human skin. Cold yet warm. Dewy yet dry. A flower within the woods.

After Fate Man...this is my favorite Amouage easily. Its stunning. Its similar to Les Abstraits Belle Ame in the quality of iris, its just opulence, quality, the best that the world of fragrance can offer. Its beautiful and has a melancholic side to it. The rum is there, but its not syrupy and boozy, its slightly sweet. It has that strong powder vibe of Gold Man, but nothing too animalic. Get your nose on this.

هو عطر ربيعي صيفي....تغلب عليه رائحة الاخشاب المنعشة....و الورد....مع خلفية من العود....الهادئ على الطريقة الغربية العطر لاول وهلة تظهر فيه النوتات الخشبية المنعشة مع الورد....و كذا خلفية حيوانية ليست بالمنفرة....راجعة لنوتة الزباد لكن سرعان ما تختفي و تبقى النوتة الخشبية هي المهيمنة....تليها نوتة رائعة من العود الهادئ....بعدها مباشرة تأتي نوتة الآيريس او السوسن....لتضفي على العطر....اللمسة الانيقة و العميقة
