The Library Collection Opus VI

I bought this perfume blindly about a week ago after i ran into some money. At the time i wanted Opus III because it is the only one i had smelled from the library collection but it wasn't available at the perfume shop so i got Opus VI and boy am i glad i did. AMOUAGE OPUS VI - THE PRINCE OF PERSIA This is more than a scent, a fragrance, this is an experience blended with such amazing brilliance and complexity it makes me want to cry a little. It tells a story. The prince of persia Stage 1 / first 3 hours The prince of persia fights a man who stole a sacred painting from the temple.. An old sacred temple, the finest incense is burning.. it's strong.. there is a faint smell of an animal.. a goat or a horse.. must be the labdanum.. there is booze.. must be the criminal, he reeks of rum.. everything is supposed to be peaceful but it's not, u can sense ANGER, blood.. The prince is angry.. Stage 2 / 3 - 6 hours The prince has left the temple and is now with his concubine he has changed to clothes only fit for a prince he is dressed in white everything is white, but he didnt shower. he smells of incense but it's not strong.. the criminal has rubbed off some of the booze on him, he smells of rum.. and incense.. he is with his concubine.. he doesn't love her but she was given to him by his father the king. he treats her with kindness but not tenderness, she likes the way he smells.. he smells rough but refined at the same time.. it's the amber.. the amber tries to calm the fire of the incense and the booze and the smoke and it succeds for a while.. but the fire lurks.. never fully going away.. , she likes it.. he doesn't smell like a spoiled prince. he smells like a king.. he is her king.. Stage 3 / 6 - 9 hours The fire is finally reduced to ashes. the prince is back in his palace with his wife.. the woman he loves with all his heart and has loved since he was a teenager. he is naked, only she is allowed to see all of him, she smells like vanilla ice cream, his heart yearns for her.. he wants to treat her better, she deserves better.. but he is a prince.. he can show no weakness, no emotion.. there's a flower somewhere.. he couldn't help it.. he brought his wife a flower (a rose maybe?).. she knows where he has been she can smell some feminine oils on him.. she starts to cry.. he kisses her and wipes her tears off.. she melts, he then carries her and throws her on the bed in one motion.. she wonders how he can be so soft but yet so firm.. so dominant, so possesive but yet so tender.. Amouage Opus VI smells like a prince who was born into infinite opulence.. a prince with a tender heart who sees people suffer amd hurts inside.. An angry prince with a tender heart. a man of honor, an emotional and sensitive man who has learned to build strength from weakness.

OVERALL RATING: * * * * Opening: Magnificent! Incense, labdanum, spice, benzoin or ambergris. A plush palace lined with old tapestries and priceless carpets. Middle: My God, it is actually getting even better! Now the true amber/labdanum scent emerges, merging perfectly with the incense. It is unlike any other amber I have ever experienced--authentic, rich, animalic. The spice notes are still there, but they are changing. It is the pepper! Delicious, warm. Vanilla is in this, too--I swear it. Dry Down: This is where Opus VI reveals itself as a masterpiece. Patchouli, Vanilla, Amber, Labdanum, Spice, a bit of Sandalwood, and an unidentifiable (to my nose anyway) flower. This is the scent of a man of honor, achievement, and rich experience. A king with a tender heart. The brilliant and almost-never-wrong Kafkaesque did not appreciate Opus IV, owing mainly to what she described as a "goatish labdanum." I can't say that I detect any hircinous notes, but if they are there, then I say "bravo!" The ancient method of collecting labdanum was to sheer the beards, legs, and undercarriages of goats who trod amongst it. In fact, the false beards of the ancient Pharaohs were said to be made of the finest goat-hair, doused in natural labdanum. Part of the appeal of this scent is is its deep, earnest respect for tradition. Amouage has been careful not to allow itself to be pigeonholed as an "Arab perfume maker." This may be the most straightforwardly "Arab" fragrance they have yet produced...and I love them for it. If this is a scent built around integrity and reverence for tradition, then why shouldn't it include the authentic animalic notes that have always been a part of labdanum, at least until the advent of the chemical age? Look, let me put it this way: I am someone who is never satisfied. Even if the perfect situation falls into my lap, I find fault with it, pick it apart, and am perfectly capable of convincing myself to walk way. I have tried to do this with Opus VI to no avail. The numbers: Scent: 5/5 Sillage: 4.5/5 It is not a Montale-like sillage, invading every nook and cranny of the room, but it wafts gently around you throughout the day. Longevity: 5/5 10 hours of good projection on my skin, and it lingers until aggressively washed off in the shower.

Opus VI is another olfactory artwork from Amouage's Library Collection. In a nutshell, it consists of a multifaceted amber accord, enhanced to perfection by a cloud of patchouli in the base. In equal parts dirty, chocolate-y and balsamic, the surprising complexity of patchouli is showcased here. Overall, this scent is masterfully put-together - there is much to admire and appreciate here. OVI opens with pungent, animalic amber from initial spray. It is musky, bolstered nicely by the subtle incense note, adding a little dry smokiness, and bridging the gap to the balsamic phase of this scent. The patchouli is present from the beginning, initially dirty and herbal, becoming smoothly balsamic as it develops, melding seamlessly with the amber accord in the vein of the extraordinary Le Labo Patchouli 24. It is leather-like in its early phase. The amber accord becomes sweeter as it develops, with a nice smooth sandalwood note adding depth. The balsamic patchouli becomes increasingly chocolate-y here. When it eventually dries down, dry vanilla creeps in, complementing the sweet amber nicely. It fades to a powdery vanilla skin scent, perfectly sweet with no trace of animalic leather evident. Sillage is strong and longevity is long-lasting. It is an autumn/winter scent. Perfectly unisex despite its increasing sweetness, OVI is a deeply satisfying, beautifully composed amber-patchouli scent. My favourite Library Collection chapter so far. 4.5/5.

Opus 6 is part of my trifecta of Amouage faves, Jubilation and Interlude being the other two. Straight up I would like to say this is by and large an Incense frag. If Incense is not your thing, probably be a good idea to sample this first and not do a blind buy despite all the hype. You get a hit of the incense right away on first spray along with the pepper and herbal leafiness of the bay note. The Incense stays to be joined by the nagarmotha mostly in the heart and then the labdanum and amber add a layer to the base along with some woody notes from the sandalwood. In summation, Amouage does great incense frags and this is one of the best out there. Smells very rich and opulent and gives me immense pleasure every time I spray this. Projection is quite monstrous the first hour or so, people will smell you when you walk into a room. It settles a bit after that but always has a nice scent bubble around you for most of the scent life. Longevity likewise is good, I get about 8 hours regularly. Two other favourite frags of mine it reminds me of are L'Artisan's Timbuktu and Tom Fords now sadly discontinued Sahara Noir. If you like either of those two, do get your hands on Opus 6. This is a Love for me. 9/10

There is a filthy animal (not just animalic!) note in the opening phase, however this is nicely offset by the amber, incense and spices. Key to understanding the spicy aspect of this perfume I believe is the West Indian Bay or "pimenta racemosa." Some brief research tells me that this type of bay leaf contains notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and vanilla. This explains why the fragrance feels so richly spiced, whilst having a fairly simple note pyramid with relatively few notes. The later development of this fragrance (after 6 hours) really surprised me. Just when I thought it had faded to a whisper of amber with dry woods, I suddenly smelt the spicy bay leaf note reappear. Wow! Then the whole thing seemed to resurrect itself, and now, 8 hours in, has gained new life on my skin. Not unlike Jubilation XXV there is a slight ghosting effect, where the fragrance seems to disappear then reappear. However, it is now very much "there" again, as a rich and strong amber. Speaking of Jubilation XXV, in my view Opus VI is the fragrance that Jubilation was always trying to be. Opus VI feels like REAL opulence and luxury....Opus VI is the true King; Jubilation is a mere pretender to the throne.

This. Is out there... My third Amouage blind buy (after reading many reviews-others were Jubilation XXV and Interlude). Third home run. This, along with J.XXV and Interlude are the Holy Trinity of oriental, exotic, natural, high quality perfumery. This is everything Ambre Sultan should have been, but didn't have the courage to be. Imagine a dense, smouldering sun near the end of its life, made mostly of amber and otherworldy stone and metals. The gentle, pulsating heat it radiates kisses the nearest planet, which has been gradually dragged dangerously close to its orbit, lightly toasting the atmosphere which sits just above a dense forest of alien evergreens, dripping with thick, sweet sap. Those alien evergreens tend to have large nests of alien bees that create the most intoxicating, gorgeous honey imaginable: like Manuka mixed with alpine wildflower, but yet not of the terrestrial variety. I keep mentioning space bc this is truly different. Special. Elevated. Yet approachable. If you let go of expectations and surrender to the weird wonder that this is, it will truly take you somewhere else. Yes, this is that out there, and yet that close to home. If you liked Ad Astra, you will love this.

A great example of an Amouage beast fragrance living up to the hype. Opus VI is the first of the library collection that I've sampled, and is fittingly the first as it's the most hyped so far, hailed as a cold weather masterpiece. Opus VI is a bit of a chameleon since, in its essence, it's a mix of incense, amber, and pepper, but it certainly seems like there's some underlying complexity that I cannot identify that easily. It feels urbane, sophisticated, something to be reserved for evenings and formal occasions, but not just to be worn out casually, and certainly only to be worn in the colder months in my opinion. Performance is superior---a strong blast from the onset without signs of slowing down hours into wearing, and one that seems like it'll cling all day. Apply carefully. It's sufficiently biting and dirty that I wouldn't given it the absolute highest marks, but Opus VI is surely on my list of acquisitions as far as cold weather fragrances, but for down the road. Despite its hefty retail pricing of $355 for 100ml, it's available for US customers at FragranceNet and BeautySpin for $160, very much on par with the pricing of other Amouage fragrances. 8 out of 10

Hmmm...Kind of boozy right out of the bottle, reminded me of a kilian rum opening that dies away quickly and it becomes an all too familiar amber/incense fragrance. I think that booziness is the amber and sharpness from the labnanum perhaps? Stings my nose a little but I quite like it, has that kingly vibe. Could've sworn there would be oud & rose in here but not according to the notes listed. Not up to par for Amouage's flair for individuality but as a fragrance very nice and they(by they I mean different perfumers everytime) can't come up with something totally unique on each outing...and I completely understand it. For me this is quite similar to two recent additions to my collection, By Kilian Incense Oud and striaght to heaven which share some similar notes (including cardamom which I think is in here.) As this dries down it's less like a rose/oud thing and more of deep amber vibe on reflection.

Oud? What oud?! I get sweet, spicy Amber, then some kind of rich rose, incense, sandalwood, and then a mellow suede-like Amber glow once again. At first, I was worried this was going to be way too sweet for me, but like others have said, apply a little less aggressively and you'll get the full effect of the other well-blended notes coming to the surface. Strangely, it's both light and dense at times, maybe depending on what your nose chooses to focus on. But because of this complexity, I think it's versatile for nearly year round wear. Maybe a little intense if oversprayed in the summertime...so use caution, of course. Price? Yes, this one can be pricey. But Opus VI isn't full of empty promises. It delivers and is generous with both projection and longevity. You just have to know how to shop this one. There's no reason you have to pay full retail, even though it's worth it.

I love amber, and I have a wide range of amber fragrances in my collection. Opus VI is the most sophisticated, most artistic and luxurious amber fragrance I have. Ambra Aurea from the impressive house of Profumum Roma comes second only because it doesn't have the sophistication of Opus VI. Opus VI is potent, rich, graceful, and powerful. It oozes confidence. It is unisex, but I don't see women wearing it. You have to be really confident to wear this because this is a monster of a fragrance that turns head and gets noticed. If Interlude is the darkest and most bad ass fragrance Amouage offers, Opus VI is the most complex and luxurious offering from them. Opus VI demands respect. Indescribable and unbelievably luxurious spicy fragrance. +24 hours longevity. Perfection, absolute perfection.

I don’t understand why they would discontinue the absolute best of the Opus line while rebottling some of the lesser numbers. So far, I’m unimpressed with their new creative director. They’ve produced nothing of note since he joined, not even the attars, which are beautiful but not remotely original. I was turned off of the guy when I came across him dismissing Chong as “artsy fartsy.” What an arrogant attitude to have towards the person to thank for making Amouage a world renowned niche house. This new director has scrapped everything niche, like clearing a table of all its cutlery and platters by pulling the cloth out from under it. That’s all too artsy fartsy for ME. Better reinvent Amouage so that Chong’s legacy doesn’t overshadow MY EGO. Fire this jerk.

One of the most profound scents I've yet to have the pleasure of sitting with. But it's something you need to be in the right mood for, because this fragrance is ever present and cannot be ignored. The potency and staying power of Opus VI demand that you remain in the moment, shrouded, as it were, in this beguiling cloak of incense, amber, bay, patchouli and wood. It will transport you to the heart of life in Oman, surround you in smoke and mystery, whilst effortlessly transcending the grey melange of life. This is not something one would wear every day, nor is it something to be toyed with amongst mere mortals. This is heavy, mystical, contemplative and sure, with timeless gravitas and endless significance. A triumph in contemporary perfumery.

I love a good amber. It evokes all the emotional responses that I look for in a dreamy, unique perfume. Comfort, warmth, but it's not nostalgic or immediately familiar. It's a balance of extremes and comes across very delicately. A very well balanced fragrance, the frankincense envelopes first and foremost, it's memory doesn't fade even as it leaves the lingering scent. It hints at a lot, there is a hint of smoke a hint of sweetness, a hint of spice. It makes me think of old book stores, coffee shops, rain on a hot summer day or the start of fall. There is also a light floral note to this that is almost reminiscent of a tamed creamy tuberose. It's stunning and I think very feminine. 9/10

I have a few Amouages - Jub XXV, Epic, Interlude - and thought this was enough; it couldn't get any better, right? The previous Opus offerings were hit n miss but nothing great. Opus VI really had me at first sniff. Didn't want to get yet another Amouage, so I sampled it again, and again, looking for aspects I didn't like. The opposite happened, and I knew I had to bite the bullet. I could do without the resplendent packaging, but this is one impressively constructed experience, not merely a scent. It shifts almost constantly in weight and perception. The longevity is nuclear. The patchouli is very subtle but it literally sizzles with the incense - WOW! yes, I bought it. And I love it.

خیلی خوشمزه و دوستداشتنی هست 5دقیقه اول میگی تنده بوش یا یه جوریه که این برای امواج عادیه ولی وقتی میگذره ازش،به به ته بوی شیرین یک نوع بویی که تلخیه ملایمی و شیرینی جوری با هم در پیکارند که حس گس بودن هم کمی میکنیم. این بو یک شیرینی شاهانه ای داره!!حس اعتماد به نفس میده و ضمن سنگین بودن زیبا و دلنشین هم هست. ضمنا به نظرم مدرن هم هست. یک کم که بیشتر میگذره بوی پچولی خیلی ملایم اون در میاد و با شیرینی مخلوطی از عشق رو میده! شیرینیش خیلی لطیفه یه ته بوی کاملا چوبی هم هست توی رایحه اما میدونین چه چوبی؟ یه چوب خوشمزه و نازنازی!! این خاک ارره هایی که از این چوبهای سفید توی این نجاریا پیدا میشه که خیلی بوی خوشمزه ای داره! . پخش بو و دوامشم که باعث میشه فقط بگی دمت گرم آمواج با این موندگاری

I have a special place in my heart for amber fragrances; there’s just something irresistible about them to me. Opus VI from Amouage is like experiencing amber in its purest and most magnificent form. From the moment you put it on, it’s shining bright, and keeps on glowing. Right out of the gate, you get hit with this strong, bold incense that makes the amber even more stunning. It’s got a vibe that reminds me a lot of another all-time fave of mine, Interlude. But Opus VI does it better. It takes everything great about amber, turns it up a notch, and adds this touch of elegance and luxury that’s just out of this world. This is probably what God smells like.

Opus Vi is Class and Sophistication in a Bottle. Opening is Mix of Incense, Spices and Amber and projection is medium . As it comes to Middle Notes it starts projecting even more and Amber comes to the Fore with Spice and Incense in the background. Dry down is just Splendid as labdanum ,Sandalwood also come into Play and You feel like A Sophisticated Prince. I feel it is crime if you just wear it Casually .Please dress yourself with some Sophistication before you put on this master piece .This is Best Amouage I have ever tried and I have tried most of them. It is beast Mode Fragrance.9.5/10

Extra, extra, read all about it! Opus VI is the note of incense at its most opulent best. It reminds me of the sumptuous smell of the homes of affluent Middle Eastern sheikhs and businessmen. Opus VI is a mixture of incense, oud, and amber that infers a lifestyle of luxury, grandeur and splendour. I don't need to mention that the performance is out of this world. One or two sprays max, and you're good to go for the next day or so. I tend to shower 3 times daily but even such an obsessive habit does not even put a minute dent in Opus VI's performance. Amouage, we salute you! 10/10

Probably the most beautiful amber based fragrance in the world today this masterpiece from Amouage blends ambranum with gorgeous Omani frankincense and a host of other luxurious Oriental accords such as sandalwood, pepper, cistus, and patchouli to create an almost divine ambrosia that has to be smelled to be believed. This is gorgeous unisex beautiful elegance with tremendous projection and sillage. Quite easily the crowning jewel of Amouage's Library Collection, this is an absolute must have for for all lovers of exotic Orientals and amber based perfumes Gorgeous!

I am a fan of this one, really a beautiful enticing scent. been wearing it for awhile now, really enjoying this one. wish I had more of it. two thumbs up. just on my forearm in the beginning it was love at first sniff. well done. this one could easily become a favorite of mine. trying not to overapply but one of those you would like to share. a spicy but warm fragrance , great scent trail.. sample this if you can. not sure if I would want to purchase this or just keep a small sample around in case I want to wear it. trying some other amouages out.

this is so, so beautiful. when i first smelled it from the bottle, i thought it was just "quite nice" until i put it on my body. i felt like _such_ a powerful woman. there's something about it that made me radiate with warmth and compassion?? it's a little strong at first, but it backed off surprisingly quickly, within two hours maybe. it then turns into a sort of mature sweetness that really gives off "mom" vibes to me... maybe my mom had worn something like this when i was growing up? who knows. it makes me feel things.

I am in love. Hands down my favorite Amouage perfume so far. This is what I'm looking for in a perfume: warm, spicy goodness. I was worried because some reviewers reported a sweaty note but I get none of that. What's interesting is this scent is warm but also aromatic and woody. It's like the faint scent of crushed pine needles beneath the smoke and warmth. This is very powerful. Just one spray on my wrist is projecting powerfully. This was a blind buy but I have absolutely no regrets. Get this.

This is what I call an Amber. First time I smelt it was super intense and had an animalic top. Now with time I don’t get that pungent opening. I sense the aromatic green touches and the rich amber, resiny and spicy facets. It’s sweet without being cloying. Almost honeyed. Dense and golden. As animalic as snuggling your cats fur, it’s warm and purrs just as contentedly on skin. A slow considered love that has become a forever love. Glad to have snapped a bottle up while I could.

Best of the library collection and my fav from the house. Gorgeously blended. Best amber of all time, but even if you’re not into ambers, this is still a killer. Soft, creamy, gentle incense. None of the listed notes individually give this fragrance it’s due justice. It’s incredibly unique. There’s no note that overshadows the others. There’s incense, spice, musks, woods, and ambery materials...but together they just are. Give this a try if you can. 10/10

One of my favorite scents ever.

Have to agree that there has been a drastic reformulation but it really is for the better. Its now a far more classical, beautiful sheer amber fragrance with incensy and floral touches, whereas before it was an in-your-face bay and spice and incense fragrance with a sharp ambery background that was very difficult to wear. The new formulation is likely to garner compliments where the old formulation was potentially highly offensive.

I've tested some of amouage library collection.Some of them are really good and i decided to buy this first. I can say this is the best perfume from amouage,openning and drydown both are great and i really like it. it smells like burnt wood with lovely sweetness. overall 10/10:) Update: when i use more than three sprays i get different drydown which is more spicy but maximum 3 sprays gives me better result which i like it.

Maybe my favorite Opus from Library Collection. To my nose is over dose of bay leaf, papyrus, and labdanum with perfect dose of incense and amber. So strong so you only need 2 or 3 sprays maximum, and it last forever. I like to layer it situ sore iso-e super fragrance from EM to tone down and day wear. Definitely unique scent and not for everybody.

Hey! I found an amouage I can really enjoy :) this one is right up my alley. Leather with a kick, spices - just pungent enough to be noticed, but still retains it's smooth edges. Having sampled all of the "amouage men" - this is by far my favorite. I will continue to on with the library collection to see if I can find more! 7/10

I have tried all of the opus line except for #7 . They are all very fine fragrances but Opus VI was the fragrance of my choice . It last way over 35hrs on me I think 3 sprays is way too much . Since I recognize more than a few times ppl who got in contact with me were sneezing . I love it and most of the women find it charming .

of course they had to discontinue the best Opus... -_- This was my go to unisex. Deeply aromatic, vibrant from sichuan pepper, extremely well blended base of sandalwood and incense. Stayed on my skin and clothes whole day and longer. Not overwhelming though to wear as a woman. You will be missed Opus VI!

@zebarahu please try Fortis by Liquides Imaginaires. I received a sample and from first sniff it was Opus VI with a few less notes (no bay) and a bit less of the animalic feel this has but by no means weaksauce. It’s definitely worth a try to see if it scratches that itch for you.

It has the typical dark feel of Amouage, it's a sweet-kind and incense-heavy scent. I can maybe smell patchouli too (this appears as the longest staying note later) but I don't know about the others. Incense gives the dark feel. Smells very good and lasts long.

Dont listen to the guy below, the performance is superb. Its a smoky incensy bomb, definitely unisex and extremely quality ingredients. I dont understand people complaining about performance. Maybe they should be careful from where they buy their Amouages from

I like this one. Smells like rich Arabs. Sometimes it reminds me of classic perfumes when i was a kid. I only wear this to special events. So a full bottle will last a lifetime. One of my fave in Opus range alongside Opus X. Perfumista must have this.

Very oriental. The opening is soso, drydown is delicious, airy and yet heavy. Spices and amber, slightly floral with nagarmotha and after 6 hours it gets somewhat smokey and more resinous. Longevity and sillage are great. Very good! 90

This is why Amouage is so opulent, the array of aroma here is truly amazing.. From aromatic woods to deep oriental spices and lasting power fit for a king, this is more man than woman, more powerful but still very beautiful..

Sweet and mildly spicy, yet delicate amber. Lasts for days on clothes and hours as a scent bubble. Great for fall and early winters. If you like Jubilation XXV, then high likelihood you would enjoy this too. Shukran Habibi!

If familiar with Amouage, you know that the quality is undeniable! As it should be, for the price you pay. I personally love Opus VI. Be sure to wear that jewel properly! One or two sprays go a long way.

All I can say is this opulent perfume caught my heart. I have never purchased middle eastern perfume smelled like this. This is greatness in a bottle

Yea i just baught this one and man I have to say Amouage never diasapoints me . I love it just like all of the other Amouage men fragrance .

Masterpiece with insane performance. (I have an older bottle). It checks every box I want in a cold weather fragrance. 10/10

If King Faisal from Lawrence of Arabia, ever wore a scent it has to be this one, rich, opulent and classy 10/10.
