Vanilla Barka

Base notes are Vanilla, Olibanum and Tonka Bean This is pure parfum oil and first my idea with this one was to make some perfumes longevity better and wear it as a base to boost Vanilla note. Nowadays I love it a lot on it’s own and mostly wear it like that. Vanilla Barka is not overly sweet, it’s really nice, pleasant natural smelling “clean” Vanilla with Tonka. It’s a quite simple scent as alone but it’s good since it’s really easy to wear and even if it’s close to the skin you can smell it lingering gently in the air. During first wears of Vanilla Barka I detected Linalool like smell which was bothering me but after wearing it few times it wasn’t noticeable anymore. Oils are a good choice for the people whose skin is sensitive and can’t use alcohol based perfumes. On the other hand it’s good choice in the occasions when you don’t need to leave a huge scent trail behind you. And layered with other perfumes it gives better longevity. There is Vanilla in so many perfumes so this is really versatile. Vanilla Barka together with Saffron Hamra attar oil is amazing. If you love Saffron as well that combo is outstanding. Some people think that the original retail price is not justified since there is not that kind of expensive natural ingredients in this but this matter is very subjective. I enjoy this a lot! The moment you open it, you're greeted by a sweet and inviting vanilla aroma—one that carries a delightfully natural scent and feels incredibly clean in its composition. Just a single drop spreads beautifully across the skin, releasing a warm, sugary vanilla that doesn’t require your nose to be anywhere near it to be noticed. The note breakdown is simple yet balanced: vanilla, tonka bean, and frankincense. I’d rate the sweetness at about 7 to 8 out of 10. This is a bright, smooth, and beautiful vanilla oil. Just when you think it’s about to get too sweet, a subtle touch of saltiness emerges—perfectly cutting through the sugar and rounding out the composition. That single savory note makes all the difference. Since receiving Amouage Attar, it’s become my go-to bedtime scent. I reach for it constantly. Longevity is outstanding—easily over 10 hours—and for an oil, the sillage is impressive. Friends around me can smell it when I move my arms. In short, I highly recommend this one to fellow fragrance lovers. If you're not afraid of sweetness, you must give it a try!

I took a risk blind-buying Amouage’s Vanilla Barka (don't blame me—it was a crazy deal!), but thank goodness it turned out to be absolutely divine. The dry olibanum and powdery tonka in the opening sit amidst a creamy, rubbery, and pure vanilla. It leans gourmand, but it’s balanced enough to avoid being straight-up cookie dough. There’s even some resemblance to YSL's Babycat, but without the suede note. As it dries down, it creates a beautiful scent bubble—sweet but not cloying, with an addictively comforting vibe. There’s a slight resemblance to Vanagloria, but Vanilla Barka skips the smokiness, which I really appreciate. However, the bottle quality leaves something to be desired. While it looks and feels great in hand, the stopper is problematic. Many of my friends who bought Vanilla Barka had issues with it too, and the inner rubber piece holding the stopper in place fell out. If I had paid 500 euros for this, I’d be seriously disappointed. Thankfully, I snagged it for much cheaper, so I can overlook the flaw since the scent is that good.

So I wanted to test this giving that I recently enjoy vanilla flavors. I found it on my favorite decant site and bought it : 2 ml for 12 euros :)) only afterwards I realized that it was probably the best deal of my life, a confusion on their end because it was written amouage baraka instead of barka so maybe the price was from another fragrance. I tried to re purchase but it was the last one. It is by far my favorite vanilla fragrance though it's not only exorbitantly expensive it's also difficult to find. I love it most in the evening because it is cosy and seductive, interesting and calming at the same time. In my opinion this creamy vanilla is the same in guidance 46 (obviously mixed with many other things) which I also love and which has a more acceptable price per quantity. For now, given the price I paid for it, I will use it abundantly like a king while trying to find a good deal for a full bottle though 12 ml is still a rip off.

A subtle, elegant, comforting blend. It's warm and almost sweet, without being sticky or gourmand. A little goes a long way, and lasts a good 10h! It doesn't project much, sillage is rather intimate, and I can't imagine it would offend - so it would make a lovely office fragrance! However, as it settles I pick up linalool which only gets stronger over time; unfortunately, it intrudes on the other notes too much for my liking. Linalool does occur naturally in frankincense / olibanum, perhaps something in my skin brings it out as I haven't seen anybody else mention it. If not for linalool's slightly synthetic presence, and having to be very picky at this price point, I would be saving up for a full bottle of this fragrance. It really is quite wonderful.

Truly fantastic! It's Amouage & Dominique Ropion, & an attar, so yes, expectations are very high, & yet, still exceeded. I got the sample set & did not expect to fall for Vanilla Barka like I have, but all vanilla/amber/incense fans - You really must check this one out! Warm, spicy, comforting, delicious, ambery vanilla with an incense backbone that makes it seriously addictive. When you consider the quality & 12ml size in the world of attars - This is a slam dunk, IMO. It's a true 10/10 Masterpiece, Holy Grail stuff I am SO happy I came across. It's unisex but a flawless men's vanilla - that will smell amazing on women, too, for sure. Kudos to Amouage on this entire line & Dominique Ropion on Vanilla Barka. Absolutely nailed it! 🤲🔥

Someone below said it best, this is truly Babycat in an oil attar. The vanilla is much more rich and dense. This is less fleeting and has a commanding presence. It’s up for debate whether or not this is worth the high price tag, especially considering Amouage attars aren’t as potent as they used to be (you can thank IFRA for that lol) I think it’s worth it for serious fragrance collectors, especially if you like deep and rich vanillas. If you’re not a big collector it might not be worth it. Overall I believe this is true art. I’ll also mention that Vanilla Barka is my favorite out of Amouage’s newer attars, Orris Wakan being my second favorite which is also worth checking out.

The endgame of resinous vanilla? I've tried now all of the three Ropions vanilla that share the same scent profile. Babycat: With the added saffron Vanagloria: A heavy dose of incense Vanilla Barka: Nothing added, just vanilla I'm not much for anything smoke/incense so Vanagloria wasn't my thing. Babycat is really nice, but I've seen it garner some polarising opinions. Likely because of the saffron. And alas my favorite VB! The most simplest out of them all, but the best vanilla. Though I would never pay retail, I'm lucky I was able to snag a discovery set.

Brilliant quality vanilla but unfortunately, because I own numerous vanilla fragrances, this piece may not find a position in my collection. That being said... This is a warm, spicy, smoky, resinous, woody scent with a dominant vanilla note. It begins much more how one would expect an attar to be, multifaceted and intriguing but it takes on increasingly gourmand qualities as it dries down to its sweet vanilla base. Beautifully smooth and thoroughly enjoyable, but nothing groundbreaking.

The sillage is stronger than I expected with this attar. The scent is captivating yet not aggressive - just the right amount of sweetness to remain classy. I have smelled babycat and whilst there is resemblance, I actually prefer this one more as I get more vanilla and less leather in comparison.

True realistic vanilla. Smells just like when you cut open a dried vanilla pod. It‘s simple and comforting. Great as a base to fill in the „hollowness“ of perfumes that lack depth. It anchors more spicy fragrances and deepens vanilla ones. Favorite use: combined with Lune Feline.

Goosebumps when I smelled this the first time. It was an instant buy, and luckily, I found a bottle for $250. Vanilla Barka is addictive, warm, and strong off my skin. One drop is all I needed for 12 hours of longevity with solid sillage.

Crisp sweet combination of resin and vanilla. Not unique and simple, but quality of the ingredients,is very enjoyable. Projection is good. Longivity is great. Love it. 🤎

It's perhaps the most elegant fragrance i've had the pleasure of smelling ON PAPER. On skin it just turns into a birthday cake unfortunately. I wish my skin was paper.

This is absolutely stunning. Beautiful resinous vanilla, just perfect.

This smells exactly like Encens Suave by Matiere Premiere but with much higher quality vanilla. Absolutely uncanny. I do not get along well with vanilla notes but Encens Suave is a tolerable exception, so is this one. Although I wish it was a bit more smokier to balance out the sweetness.

This is not a safe blind buy no matter what the comments might say. In am a little bit bias about liking it or not. I do not hate it however bear in mind the vanilla is more of a heavy vanilla with some sharp coumarinic undertone although is not in the list. I understand the baby cat vibe however I found baby cat smoother. Is heavy, dense a little bit sharp spicy and the smokiness is so intense goes in a dirty way. Is very deep arabic oriental non safe blind buy borderline wearable.if it wouldn't be the dirty sharp base and middle motes I would have liked it. I fo not hate it but as well ia not a love for me.

Pure Tonka bean and Vanilla, and yes... I must say, the opening transported me to an old cathedral, with hints of smoke and resin. Lovely... until you hear the price! I was appalled when she told me it’s $540 for such a small tincture. I gave myself a generous amount to test on my skin... 3 hours later, it has worn off. As lovely as this fragrance is, completely overpriced. You best get yourself Vanilla Musk from Nemat. The dry down is EXACTLY that.

Smells too inoffensive and Babycat-like. I like the idea of pairing vanilla with frankincense, after all olibanum sacra is the pearl of Oman, but the problem is that there’s no real vanilla here and no spice either. Just flat, soulless vanillin powder, flattened by white musk.

Basically Vanagloria from LO,90% or more the same. The same perfumer also :(

I've been obsessed with Dominique Ropion's resinous vanillas since the discovery of Vanagloria back in 2022 when I ordered myself a bottle as a birthday gift. In the autumn of 2023 I bought Babycat which was created for YSL and then finally in 2024, Vanilla Barka. I never thought I'll be so addicted to this genre of dry, balsamic, spicy, leathery vanillas. Vanilla Barka, crafted for Amouage is the attar expression of Vanagloria, Babycat and Eau the Audacity. The formulations are built around LMR Vanilla CO2 in combination with a duo of frankincense materials (olibanum resinoid and olibanum essential oil) and also a tonka bean constituent, several white musks and captives. In Vanilla Barka I feel like the vanilla is truly the centerpiece for the longest, expressing rich, balsamic, sweet, powdery but also leathery, even slightly phenolic facets due to the natural occurrence of guaiacol, vanillin and 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde. Olibanum lends its mysticism and verticality to the formula and creates a skeleton that acts as a backbone for the vanilla but also makes the fragrace mysterious and adds a lot of lift to the formulation. If the incense components were to be left out, the scent would have been way flatter. Tonka bean absolute deepens the craving that the vanilla material started and in conjunction with the white musks and the olibanum will create this beautiful, powdery, almost waxy texture in the drydown for a unique, lasting impression. Vanilla Barka is my favourite out of the bunch and to me it feels and smells like one of the most lushious, resinous vanilla bean fragrances ever...golden, ambery, rounded, adorned with this precious, grainy, crystalline frankincense. Expectations are high with an Amouage attar. With a long history of excellent compositions including homage and tribute, the prospect of new Attars is intriguing. What do I want out of an attar? A complex tobacco, rose, oud or incense. Something intimate but with personality. Things that Amouage have excelled at in the past. Amouage have used perfumers like Dominique Ropien (responsible for the night and promise), and Julien Rasquinet who created the moon. Putting together these great noses with a brand like Amouage, you would possibly expect something more than what we have received in this attar line. Overall the new set is pretty tame in comparison to Attars of old. Possibly made for greater audience acceptance or maybe regulations prevented some ingredients. I expect most will love this scent. Very similar to Dominique Ropien’s previous vanilla offering for Laboratorio Olfattivo. Realistic and sweet vanilla with smooth incense. If that sounds up your street, it’s worth a test. This attar is truely great for what it is with excellent longevity and a comforting and pleasing aura. But... absolutely nothing new. It seems to me like a reinterpretation of this excellent perfumers’ previous work in an attar form.

This fragrance is terrible. You’re better off buying a cheap vanilla scented body lotion and save yourself $485 because this smells identical to the average bath and body works style synth vanilla. I’m actually amazed that Amouage would sell this and think “yeah that’s the stuff”. For everyone saying this is a great vanilla fragrance I’m genuinely curious if you’ve smelled real vanilla? Because this is straight trash. I’m being serious too for the price point this is pure robbery. This is a slap in the face to the fans of Amouage who have come to know and love the brand as a daring, boundary pushing force in the perfume world but here the brand has been reduced to cotton candy laced plastic and cheap vanillin. This doesn’t smell daring, this isn’t opulent, nor is it complex or woodsy OR incensy. It’s just cheap, sweet, vanillin and ethyl maltol. So if you like to waist money here’s your chance to do it.

For starters, the presentation is beautiful. I knew I wanted one of these beautiful bottles sitting on my dresser from the moment my perfume guy introduced me to them. I knew reading the notes this would be my favorite out of the bunch and I was right. I have picked up a few more of these little guys and it's just changed the perfume game for me completely. I feel like I am adorning myself in the most intoxicating scent. I love the way they feel, the oil is soft and comforting, it blends into the skin efforlessly. The scent is somehow both simple and groundbreaking. It layers and plays well with others completely upping your scent game. I put them in my hair and I can smell myself all day in a way that is completely different from regular perfume. A heavenly experience that is borderline spiritual.

Seriously amazing. I take back what I said about Nishane being the best vanilla fragrance. Smelt this today and it is the most masculine, smooth and gorgeous vanilla scent ever. The incense, ambery notes bring out an exquisite middle eastern twist to it. Super potent, I received two drops on my hand and rubbed in on both wrists and neck and the smell lingers forever. Projection was pretty good for an attar and the sillage was impressive. This isn’t something you would wear extremely often, so a 15ml bottle is worth it considering how long it lasts on skin, how little you would actually use and the occasion it is for. Will definitely save up for this.

Not mentioning any names, but I hate reviews like this: After reading tons of great things, I finally had the chance to try General Tso chicken. This stuff is disgusting, and anyone who says they love General Tso chicken is lying. It’s terrible and repulsive. I’m not even sure there is real chicken in it. I’m glad I just got a free sample at the food court. Anybody who pays full price for this stuff is getting robbed. I had to go eat some popcorn chicken to get the flavor out of my mouth! This is an insult to all true chicken lovers. 1/10.

Gorgeous layered take on vanilla reminiscent of crème caramel with a mild supporting incense. Thankfully this doesn't smell like the generic vanilla absolute often used in perfume, It's very western in style and not what some people might be looking for in Amouage, but I love it. The only attar in the collection that has a notable projection even though it's not cloying, surprisingly out performs their take on oud. Vanilla Barka is the kind of fragrance for people who lie to themselves thinking that the designer leather hand bag they just bought is actually high quality leather and not just a super expensive printed logo on the tag inside the bag somewhere. If you guys think Vanilla Barka is high quality vanilla by all means you do you but I’m here to say it’s overpriced, redundant, and pure marketing meant to sell a cheap product in the name of “legacy”. Amouage has fallen.

Sometimes I revisit this fragrance just to see if I’m being a hater then I remember my wife’s cheap body lotion smells about 100% identical. If you want to know what real vanilla smells like, buy some vanilla beans and smell them. Seriously do it. You’ll realize how far away this smells from actual bourbon vanilla absolute, vanilla beans, or anything to do with vanilla that isn’t doused in ethyl maltol and marketing.

This is fire. Vanilla BANGER. To me, meant for layering, of course. But this is a beautiful vanilla fragrance that is incredibly realistic to what you'd expect. Smells almost edible. Not a crazy projector, but wild longevity on skin

Intoxicating scent. I could not stop smelling my wrist after adding a sample drop. I appreciate that it is in attar form. It feels really luxurious.

Great vanilla. I dont have a great nose, but it gives me a vibe of Encens Suave from Matiere Premiere. Nice longevity.

Very nice! Vanagloria combined with bois d 'argent! Makes it more airy, less gourmand.

Attar version of the extinct Magnificent Gold by YSL for anyone missing that one 🫠
