Dark Orchid

Sorry - I have to contradict the review posted below by Jeffwithfrags; his description is so wide of the mark, I am wondering if he tested another fragrance and has accidentally posted his review on the wrong page! Dark Orchid bears absolutely NO resemblance - at all - to Chanel No 5. If you decide to test or buy Dark Orchid with that expectation, you are going to be very sorely disappointed; this is unsurprising as the two perfumes have hardly any notes in common. There are no aldehydes for starters; if there were and they were anywhere near as pungent as they are in No 5, I wouldn't have Dark Orchid in my collection, let alone count it as one of my favourite autumn/winter perfumes. (My apologies to No 5 lovers.) Calvini and milkyway have both nailed the description of Dark Orchid; it is a less sweet but richer (and far more expensive!) version of TF Black Orchid. In fact, every time I wear it, at least one person asks me if I am wearing Black Orchid. Fragrantica have neglected to allocate DO to a perfume group, but I'd venture to suggest it belongs in the "Oriental Floral" category - with Black Orchid.

Amouroud Dark Orchid may have derived its idea from Tom Ford Black Orchid, but I think Dark Orchid is smoother and better than Black Orchid, I think Cecile Hua had succeded developing Black Orchid to the next level. The smell is intoxicating, and the juice is very potent, it lasts more than 12 hours, and I think less is better with this juice, I do think this is an extrait concentrate instead of regular edp. I wore 6 sprays (as usual) and I think I almost killed my office friends. That being said, I still think that this is not everyone's cup of coffee. Do not blind buy.

Very beautiful - sweet, orchid and patchouli, with a lovely touch of the vanilla, a nice tang of citrus, lovely rich delicious fragrant ylang-ylang, gentle lotus and intense jasmine; and the incense and sandalwood make a very rich and smooth dry-down. It all makes a beautiful well-blended, strong, orchid perfume.....really does smell like a sweet orchid.....It's really gorgeous.

Lusciously dark, dense, oudy floral opening. Heady, intoxicating. Exotic, sensual. This Orchid is no tease. It’s straight up orgasmic. Mind you, it’s no Tom Ford OG batch Black Orchid, but this Dark Orchid elixir could very well be the scent that embraces you on your way to Gothic Heaven.

The Dark Orchid obviously is inspired by TF Black Orchid, but they smells quite different to me, this is like the Donald Trump version of it, obnoxious, synthetic and fake as hell. The citruses are quite mild in the opening, right off the bat it has this medicinal type menthol note from the beginning through the mid, almost like bandaid. From mid to dry down I get some weird incense and an impression of suede leather in the background. This thing smell a bit off, TF BO is seductive, classy, and sexy, the Dark Orchid is far from it, very rough-neck smelling. If you like TF Black Orchid then stay with it, if you can't stand the truffle's mushroomy funk from the Black Orchid then I would highly recommend the Maremma by Tiziana Terenzi, which is a straight-up clone minus the truffle, with much better longevity.

Very sweet patchouly orchid. The vanilla was lost to me behind the patchouly. Heady, sweet and incensy this fragrance does not play around, but jumps right at it. There is some citrus pill and incense in the beginning together with a blast of a fragrant, heavy heady smell of orchid, just like you get when you smell the flower really close. The heady sweetness that remains in your sinus for a while afterwards, cancelling all the other smells. The flowers are blended wonderfully here - if you really focus, you can smell the aquatic lotus, earthy jasmine and tangy and sweet ylang ylang. This is a floral heavy hitter, a lot more interesting than TF's Black Orchid imho.

Wow it is pretty similar to Black Orchid, but thankfully not as cloyingly sweet! Instead woodier, more floral & incensy. You can smell the aquatic-woody-floral lotus in the background right behind patchouli & incense, which should be alongside the yellow-tinted ylang. More sensual than LM Parfums Sensual Orchid (chuckle) and feels like it could've been in Tom Ford Private Blend Atelier d'Orient. The drydown is even woodier with sandalwood peaking out; now I REALLY like it!

This is a beast. A very dark, polarizing, not-for-the-faint-of-heart beast. Very thick and incensey to my nose. Heed the warnings to not blind buy this - sample first. You'll likely either be intrigued by it or completely repelled. Seriously, one or two sprays will last HOURS. Don't choke yourself (or those you love) out by going beyond that. Other than maybe Tom Ford's Black Orchid, I've never encountered a more potent parfum than this one .

It's a chocolate smell in the beginning but I really like it but do not overspary it cus it's too strong and the longevity is very good

Do you love Tom Ford Black Orchid but you find it overwhelming? Try this Dark Orchid. It is similar if not a copy. The vibe is 100% feminine though. The TF is darker. Sillage is heavy and the longevity is also above the average. The combo of ylang ylang/vanilla gives a caramelish vibe which dominates along with orchid and patchouli. Pretty linear, less strong than TFBO, a beautiful feminine evening scent for cool weather.

It's a fruity floral which I tend to steer away from, so naturally this would lean towards feminine and have pronounced flower notes in it. And, it does! It opens like a nicer, vanillic Chanel No5, or basically; like a 1000 other 'nice' fruity florals. I do not get any of the 'citruses' as pronounced. The scent is quite milky, smooth and definitly you can smell the thick flesh of a petal in there amid pillowy, non-syrupy vanilla. 0 darker notes here in the beginning. Later, the vanilla 'mush' sort of thickens and maybe, I find some nice sweetish wispy smoke in there, but this just may be the mandatory woods playing in. Meh, nice on a whim but pass for me. Women of course are likely to smell this much 'better' than what I am getting, so of course my votes are always very subjective Testing courtesy of Harrods My rating: 5/10

When I first sprayed this i said to my self this is how Black Orchid TM should smell like. Despite the initial similarities; this dark orchid is way way way better than any TF perfume. Why? Its creamier, mystical, inviting, daring yet still sweet and woody. The incense and blend is done perfectly, while TF's black orchid can smell dirty/ messy at time, dark orchid smells luxurious. When I first smelled it, I kept testing it for months. Seriously, It takes me a while to like a perfume. I need to keep testing it on my skin several times before deciding. This one wowed me EVERY single time i tested it, in cold weather, in warm weather and in every and all of my moods. If you love to smell like a Goddess, try this one and this one only.

A sensual warm and seductive take on the Orchid for the ones who find the infamous Black Orchid by Tom Ford too intense to wear. Dark orchid opens up with citrus notes of bergamot and mandarin orange that I however do not detect and plunges fully into the heady floral heart of black gardenia, orchid, jasmine, lotus flower and ylang ylang. The base wraps you in a balmy patchouli leaf with vanilla and incense. It is significantly less sweet than its predecessor Black Orchid by TF and leans more woodsy and smokier which I really enjoy. Overall sillage is above average on my skin and I find it comforting and warm on the chillier days. Scented regards, @olyabar

It starts with floral notes. The citrus top notes listed are very mild and almost masked with the floral notes. To me, this fragrance has a problem of using too many floral notes beside each other without harmony. After the top, in the middle, there is mixture of a sweet vanilla, and creamy sandalwood blended with the floral notes, making a thick scent. Feminine scent. 5/10

This is a bit creamier than Tom Ford. Most likely because of the coconut smell is more intense here. This is strong but just a bit calmer than Black Orchid. If you can find this significantly under $100, get it. But anything around $90 just get black orchid for $145

This actually gets me many compliments. Not my favourite but it lasts for ages. Great scent for clubbing. Won't be everybody's cup of tea but will garner attention for sure. Smells more mass appealing than Tom Ford's version.
