Safran Rare

#1311 in my "Tour de Fragrance" It's strange that so many people are smelling leather and raspberries where there are none. This scent has more in common with Dior "Oud Ispahan" and Fredric Malle's "The Night." It's much closer to Tom Ford "Noir de Noir" than to "Tuscan Leather." But that said, this is an amazing scent at a great price, but I am not surprised. It's what Amouroud does. "Santal Des Indes", "Oud du Jour", "Miel Sauvage", "Oud After Dark", "Oud Tabac", "Sunset Oud", "Golden Oud", you can't go wrong with any of their oud and incense scents unless you just hate oud scents in general. The quality is absolutely first rate and at a reasonable price. Absolutely among my favorite Orientals. Used with moderation it's fine for business wear, but more a cool weather date scent. If you've not tried the Amouroud line this is a good starting point, as is Claude Dir's other Amouroud entry "Oud du Jour." I started with "Oud Tabac" and I was hooked. I think you will be too.

This has climbed up to the top of my fragrance Everest. Warm, smoky, spicy resinous goodness. The value on this is tremendous, beast mode, will project like a mofo, throughout the day, I don't go more than three sprays. When I first smelled I wasn't too sure because it's powerful, and when it settles it's just so warm and comforting. I've received positive feedback from my wife (which I was relieved, and surprised actually as she loves fresh/clean scents mainly) and compliments from others. I get whiffs all day/night and will stay in clothes, which smell amazing! I have really grown to love this fragrance. The two reviewers below me are on the money. Santal des Indes and Golden oud elixir fantastic, as is smoky citrus! Fantastic value for the quality and superior artistry. Packaging is beautiful, I could do without the velvet bag though...

Nice oudy-woody scent, even slightly leathery (it looks like some oud smells leathery, at least to me). I'm not sure I can smell anything else here, especially saffron. I can imagine that it's possibly there but only after thinking about it or seeing the name and notes. So all the rest just blends and distinguishes this from other oud scents. Reminds me both Amouage's Interlude Man and its very good dupe Afnan's Supremacy Incense but SR is much less incensey, more polite and refined so for those to whom Interlude Man is too strong, Safran Rare is a nice alternative. Despite of this, I didn't suggest Interlude Man as similar in the list above. I see in the reminds-list La Yuqawam Homme: no, that one has the specific, possibly Tom Ford-like sweetness in it and is therefore even more different than Interlude Man.

Lovely opening you get a opulent but mild saffron and settling to a great, if not familiar leather accord. Now to say this is similar to TF TL and it’s many smellalikes is clearly obvious but this has much less of the fruity, raspberry note of TL. It’s far less sharp and dense, perhaps a little more laid back and mellow, while simultaneously being less sweet and not exactly smokey but somehow more woody. The truth is I have the best there is to offer in this department, the first Clive Christian C which I think does this accord in the most complex way possible, but that’s just an opinion. I found this to be more on those lines or maybe Godolphin, a little scaled back from TL’s full on aroma. I enjoyed it of course.

Stunning smoky, leather and saffron forward fragrance. I discovered Safran Rare and Amouroud at ScentXplore this December. The brand founder's sweet wife told me this is her signature scent. It does not disappoint. 10/10 if you enjoy warm spicy, smoky, woody and distinguished scents.

Despite trying to present middle-eastern, Amouroud is very much a US house. Given this, i didn't have big expectations, but i saw a bottle of Safran Rare for about 60$, and the note breakdown looked interesting, so i thought why not. The opening comes with a strong blast of smokey incense. It is a powerful sensation to a level that it triggered my self preservation instincts - didn't want to take a good sniff at it because it felt like inhaling smoke. It took a while to adjust to it. The smokiness, for better or worse, does not linger in the opening for that long - 10-15 minutes and it steps aside to make way for the other notes. You can feel that the scent does indeed, contain "real oud" right from the get go. It is not the dark, animalic variety (indian oud) but the bit sweeter, less punchy (and cheaper) Indonesian Oud - but you can still get the dark, musky, vegital qualities of real Oud right away. Flowery, powdery notes are also present in the opening, the rose note despite being prominently featured in the marketing and note breakdown, is not at all that prominent in the scent profile itself - it can be picked out, but i am unsure if its actual rose oil i am smelling, or the rose-like qualities of the Geranium and the other white flowers. After about half an hour you can start noticing the scent morphing from the powdery, smokey oud and flowers towards a more "leathery" stage when the saffron that gives the fragrance its name starts to make its presence known. The rose accord also gets a bit more noticeable here, alongside the oud still being a major player. This is where the scent profile will spend the majority of its life cycle - slightly vegetal oud-y, suede like leathery, rosey smooth and creamy scent. Towards the backend of the drydown the scent will go into softer, milder woody qualities mixed with balsamic sweetness provided by the benzoin/vanilla/sandalwood combo. Performance wise, it has a good projection for the first 2-3 hours, and retracts much closer to the skin during the drydown, so don't expect a "room filler" or to be noticed from the other end of a baseball stadium wearing this. Duration would be in the ballpark of 5-6 hours on my skin - pretty normal for me with any fragrance that is not backed by a heavy dose of synthetic aroma chemicals. Presentation is excellent - heavy metal cap, stylish heavy glass non-transparent black bottle with a build in nameplate - but it may come as a bit tacky for some due to trying to look "middle eastern" a bit too much. Overall, i consider this to be among my better blind buys - especially if you can find it at a similar price on a discounter website. While the composition is not exactly groundbreaking within what is considered "niche perfumery" it is well done with high quality ingredients with bold, punchy and statement making note presentation.

Safran Rare Amouroud is a solid performer made out of good ingredients. It has opulence and comforting feel to it.

It 's not what it used to be..I ve'just bought it and tried for a few days..also compared with an older batch that I already have,and feel dissapointed. It used to be stronger,and the longevity,proyection ,and smell it's just ok now ... for its price I would go for layuqawam or any other tuscan leather clon

The best part of this scent is the opening. Then it transforms into a smoky faint saffron. A safe and linear scent for spring & fall. There is no oud here and there is no incense, rose, jasmine. I feel that the note pyramide is completely wrong, it describes another fragrance but not this Saffron Rare. Zero sweetness and zero florals. But there is an ethereal smoke effect with mild dark saffron. I would't recommend it for saffron lovers because it's not a saffron dominant scent. Anyone who likes light smoke must try this. The sillage/projection are moderate. The longevity is nice, above the average but most of the time it stays close to the skin. If you love saffron try the Prada Prada Amber Pour Homme (Prada Man) much better scent IMO with stronger sillage/projection.

Safran Rare by Amouroud is a beautifully balanced fragrance that feels both warm and vibrant. The saffron note shines without being overpowering, paired with a subtle sweetness and a hint of spice that keeps things interesting. Its projection is moderate—enough to be pleasantly noticed but never too loud. Longevity is solid, lasting around 7 to 8 hours on my skin, with a smooth, elegant dry-down. It’s a refined, versatile scent that works great for both day and evening wear, offering a tasteful and unique take on saffron.

I didn't like it, don't know if it's the saffron or the incense, but this line on perfumes is amazing. In the picture there are 6 bottles but I think the line have 7 perfumes in total. I find them more on the feminine side than on the masculine but I would still use them. I like(love really) about 4 of them in total. Edit 2018: they added more perfumes to the lineup.

Definitely Tuscan Leather upon initial application. Dries down to something a little more spicy than TL, enough to keep it unique. I'm not getting any Oud in the mix but, then again, picking out the individual notes is not my strength. This will be called a TL clone but I won't go that far. This stands on its own and I think it's very well done.

I like this one better than TF Tuscan Leather and Black Saffron Byredo. It's less fruity , nothing sour. not groundbreaking but it's solid, pretty and dense.

Love this house and have most of them by now! I don t have this one though it is good as it is basically Tuscan Leather but a bit stronger. Good one though!

It is 100% Fortnum&Mason the Perfume by Roja Parfums. Rather a feminine scent. Hope to find it online for purchase
