Santal des Indes

Stunning. Absolutely stunning. As much as I adore Lubin Idole this stuff might just be even better. A boozy, incense and slightly leathered, sweet smell with a hint of creamy sandalwood smoothness in a long and drawn out drydown. Like some stumptuious cocktail expertly crafted by a fine mixologist to have the perfect balance of elements. I love it and I want a bottle. I wasn’t expecting that, but way to hit a home run from the first of this brand I sampled. Also, expensive stuff but actually pretty reasonable considering the quality and volume of perfume you get. It’s a low lying scent but that’s it’s nature, still lasts and projects well. Update: 10/07/24 So I’ve owned this perfume for a few years now and although it still enjoy it, I was somewhat fooled by the intensity of its composition as being ‘better’ than Idole, sentiments uttered in the review above. It’s really not. Idole is a much more nuanced version of this for two main reasons, lighter, less syrupy, boozy and fruity top notes. The sandalwood accord and dry, woody AC’s in the base are exposed for what they are in this and as such leave it lacking that extra bit of finesse.

This is great, after a few wears I started searching for other sandalwood and curry leaf fragrances. The two match so well without smelling sweaty or foody. This really shape shifts from a cool boozy sweet liquorish and incense combination, into a warm smooth wood and spice concoction. The curry leaf spices give the familiar spice and sandalwood a uniqueness and the liquor keeps the incense and wood from being churchy. I get about 8 hours most of which is very perceptible but it mostly wears close. The only thing I don’t really get are the florals, but I don’t miss them. This checks all the boxes as far as I can tell, quality ingredients, good performance, uniqueness and can be found for a very good price. A great fall and winter choice!

#834 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This decant is my first fragrance from this house and I'm thinking I should have given them a try early on. This is a great date night scent with great performance and sold at a fair price. It's leaning oriental, but not over-the-top oriental for western tastes, could be overpowering or offensive with more than a light application. You could wear it to work if there's someone there you're interested in, but again, go lightly, and if you car pool, forbear. Perfectly balanced incense, florals and woods. Kind of rawhide leather note. Probably a little to the right of unisex, but most of the women in my circles would wear it. Cold weather scent. I'm definitely in for a bottle!

This is what an expensive Oud fragrance should smell like. The combination of the Sandalwood and the Incense is so well blended along with the sparkling Absinth at the top, that it gives a royal aroma of burning expensive oud chips. It's a very up-class and elegant fragrance that you might wear on any season and any occasion. Performance is just superb in terms of both projection and longevity. Even though the 'Oud' note is not listed, but the incense used must be coming from the smoke of the burning Oud. Here is my score: Scent: 9/10 Projection: 9/10 Longevity: 9/10 Sillage: 7/10 Versatility: 9/10

I feel like I've smelled this before too, and I like it so much I'm guessing I must have bought it so I'll be double checking my collection to see if I find a similar one. Not my favorite from the line but pretty close. I just wish the bottles were somehow different from each other to add "flavor" visually to one's collection, in case one buys more than one. Eh... yes, bottle design matters to me (while I'm on the subject, Mugler should have let the professionals design the A*Men bottles, they are aweful, don't do justice to the juice inside).

I just got my bottle of Amouroud Santal des Indes! Wow! The opening blew me away with its incense and absinthe combo. It's rich, sparkling AND deep. The heart is mesmerizingly floral, very unique. But the dry down--- what the?! Amazing! The sandalwood is lively and expensive. My girls literally jumped off the sofa when they smelled my arm. I think I pull this off in every season, we shall see...

I love the scent... In brief, this is a unique woody scent and it smells something in the middle between a wooden match smoke and freshly-sharpened pencil... The performance is perfect, I recommend only 1-2 sprays. Definitely, Fall and winter scent. I will give it a solid 9/10.

What a stunning masterpiece once again from Amouroud! Bright, sparkly, deep, inebriating, intoxicating! It is one of those scents you can make as your SOTD and not respray as it is so beautiful and potent.

This is insane, love it. Smells like newly cut wood :D

Opens very sparkly and bright with a light anise/wormwood and a prominent spicy curry leaf- the effect is vaguely cola or Dr. Pepper like. The curry leaf which lingers most of the wear is interesting and combines in a complimentary way with the wood and incense - still not sure if I really like it or not though. It is different at least. As it dries the incense and wood last the longest. I get more cedar and incense than sandalwood. I appreciate the bright opening and woody spicy facets but not convinced this was a worthwhile blind buy. Maybe it will grow on me but don’t see myself getting through the 100mls Edit: it’s growing on me. Not a love at first sniff by any means.

I feel like I've smelled this before but can't pinpoint (definitely not Bentley Intense, which is supposedly similar to Lubin Idole to this). Initially, it's not as "butch" as The Candy Perfume Boy promised, instead we have a soft fougere-like woody fragrance with something sweet, warm, & herbal-spicy (absinthe + curry?); as it dries down, the woody aspect intensifies and becomes more masculine & leathery, gaining resemblance to something else I cannot name...(maybe Memo Shams Oud or the opening of S&B Blacks Club Leather)

Smooth opening blast of absinthe and incense, wrapped in a warm sandalwood blanket. Middle phase adds a dry flowery aura (narcissus and cedar) to the woody-balsamic opening notes, while at dry-down a musky vetiver and leather shows its presence. Good longevity and sillage. A pretty solid release and a welcome addition to my wardrobe, I needed only two tries to fall for it. For me it's a 9/10, recommended for woody-balsamic fans.

I've only worn this twice; therefore, this review is subject to change. However, so far, I'm really enjoying this fragrance. It's smoky, woody, and leathery without being too dark or goth. Also, am I the only one who picks up on a papyrus note here?

Cedar-dominant for me. Off the top, absinthe over cedar gives it an almost sage-like quality, with curry leaf adding a bit of zing. Potent stuff overall.

I can't explain why, but it smells cheap. Like a cheap men's smoky woody aftershave. A little sweet, a little tart. Meh.

Medicinal sandalwood...I hate it. Tested this one for nearly a week, and I at no point wanted to wear it...so we're done.

Exquisite sandalwood scent, from the start to finish. This is a dark take on the note. It's like a tinge of absinthe is poured on to a dusty log of smooth real sandal wood, and fumes of frankincense are gently made to pass over it. There's a certain kind of freshness, and sweet rounded feel to the scent, a tamed gooey oud nuance too, subtle rose, refined leather, vibrant vetiver and musk are in the background as it dries, there's something fruity sharp and rounded about it at the same time. The curry leaf note can be detected in the mid when you dig your nose deep and blends well with the creamy feel of the scent with the other main notes, the cedar is detectable too a bit more prominently. Feels complex, great performance, top notch release from Amoroud. 8/10

Santal des Indes by Amouroud is truly one of the best sandalwood fragrances I’ve ever experienced. It’s creamy, smooth, and rich right from the start, with a beautifully warm, woody vibe that feels luxurious without being over the top. The scent projects well enough to get noticed but stays pleasantly close, making it elegant and inviting. Longevity is impressive—I get a full day’s wear with it, fading softly and comfortably. If you love sandalwood, this one feels like a refined, modern classic that never gets old.

It's beautiful. Like subtle citrus and fresh pencil shavings with rose. I've never smelled absinthe before so I guess one would smell this in here as well. After all, it is a main note. Stays pretty linear and I want to say I've smelled this before. But not from Lubin's Idole as referenced. I have something close to this scent but for the life of me I can't figure it out. MFK Oud Silk Mood? Nah sheesh I don't know but good stuff here.

The Santa des Indes by The Amouroud Brand This is a new brand from France, came out early 2016. I just purchased this particular fragrance yesterday. At first, it smells cheap, gives out sort of a woody/ safron vibe but as it starts to dry, the real fragrance emerges. It will be perfect for a late night movie or an evening date. For now i rate it 3.8/5.0.

Great sandalwood fragrance. It’s fresh and just a tad sweet, not one note stands out to me in a good way. Last all day, with great reach. Underrated house. Reminds me alottt of Dior’s Santal Noir, but a lot richer and stronger. Edit: coming back after owning it for a bit. Absolutely love it. It’s become a dumb reach.
