White Hinoki

Took me awhile to put my finger on it and got it! This shares a similar DNA to xerjoff 40 knots. But this is a lighter/airer/white version. Blonde/white woods surrounded by green (Hinoki), a dash of pepper with tobacco. I don't pick up on the blood orange or whiskey but it's well blended hard to pick the notes. This is quite versatile I believe but the kind of fragrance you need to be in the mood for because it brings a certain aurua to it. It's no dumb reach fragrance, it's a deep and mysterious fragrance. As others have said this is a Zen type scent and I'd agree. This is masculine leaning but females could pull it off but as I said it's the right type of mood scent. This falls under the rare category of mine that feels 'more than just a perfume'. Other perfumes in this category are Creed Original Vetiver, Himalaya, Roja Midsummer dream, Tom Ford Oud Wood etc. Apply this, go lie on sun lounger on a semi windy day, shut your eyes and you'll feel you're in a different place. Very Very nice, mysterious fragrance. Going off the 40 knots similarity this is softer, smoother whereas 40 Knots is quite loud and brash. I enjoy them both, so if you like 40 Knots but it's abit 'over the top' definitely give this a try! Rating after owning 3 days 9/10 Losing a point for Versatility. Live in New Zealand, it's summer here cannot wait to try this in Autumn. I think Spring & Autumn this will shine. Himalayan Woods needs to be added on here, I have a bottle and it shares a similar DNA to something I've smelt before. Haven't put my finger on it yet, will update when and if I do. Himalayan Woods review: Opens very nice, I can definitely pick up on the juniper berries, ginger and a dash of citrus. It feels icy cool similar to Eau Givre and Creed Himalaya but different scent profile. Just has that cooling calm effect. Mids are slightly floral but hard to pick out. In the drydown it's hard to pick notes but i can detect the woods, musk and some amber. The guaiac is present, it's one of my favorite woody notes so I can pick it out but again blended very well. Below is the official notes: Top Notes: Cardamom Pure JE, Black Pepper Pure JE, Clary Sage, Juniper Berry, Lemon Blossom Middle Notes: Jasmine, Guaiac Wood, Vanilla Flower Base Notes: Tonka, White Amber, Oud, Patchouli, Musk Himalayan Woods rating 8/10 - Blended superbly, however the performance is hard to gauge. I do catch whafts of it 6+ hrs in but im unsure if the musks are blowing my olfactory senses. Because smelling up close after 1hr it's hard to detect, i do know white musks have this effect. Perfect example is Dior Homme Cologne, you'll catch whafts for hours but up close its hard to detect. Also, I've only worn around the house so far, I will give it some wearings over the summer. Overall, Blend is great, smell is great, performance is hard to tell. Definitely worth a sniff if you can, I did blind buy this and do enjoy it. Again it's a zen 'in the mood' type fragrance, which so far Amouroud from what I've smelt all share this characteristics. In saying that, these are incredible niche perfumes.

Solid, beautiful, hard-wearing stuff with HIGH QUALITY running right through it like the rings through a tree trunk. Citrus/woody scents often leave me feeling a bit uneasy and unmoored, out of touch with nature rather than transported into it - "where am I in the world, and what season is it?" - as they often fail to knit everything together well enough and the transition from opening fruit to later wood can be extremely bumpy. Not here though. Bracing blood orange, ginger and cistus notes tide it over into another phase of pure loveliness, with pepper and cinnamon incredibly delicate but very much there. The wood itself is utterly natural upscale cypress with not even a hint of fake aromachemical to it. Fascinating in how it morphs and mutates, too - in some moments it's nearly all citrus, other moments all forest, and at others just a genuinely sophisticated and wonderfully nuanced fragrance. Towards the end (and that's as late as 7-8h in) it still offers little instants of almost powdery, nearly-ambery sweetness. I find it interesting how opinions vary on whether this is a male or female scent - I'd vote for it as one of the very very few true unisex, if you can take the slight bitterness of cypress, and unfailingly lovely in every phase. Projection and longevity both as robust as the toughest hinoki in the thicket. Pricy, but more than justifies its existence. Reminded me strongly of 1942 Nobile Infinito, just about a thousand times brighter, sharper, clearer and more vivid in every dimension than Infinito is. For me this was a blind buy (just of a decant) which paid off handsomely, but I wouldn't go for a full bottle blind unless you already know for sure that cypress/hinoki scents really work for you. If they do, then this one is pretty close to perfect IMHO.

This fragrance is incredible. So much going on here & this frag is anything but linear... If you like boozy frags then you're going to love this one. Upon initial application I get that boozey, blood orange mixed with a gorgeous smokey wood, floral and tobacco... But not a feminine floral at all. In the dry down I get a hint of cinnamon, spicy pepper & ginger... Very masculine for a frag with florals in it. Oh man do I love this one & usually I'm not a fan of ginger &/or cinnamon frags. Longevity & sillage is through the roof!!! Definitely sample before you buy cause this one is unlike anything I've ever smelled & I'm telling you, it's not going to be for everyone. Imho a masterpiece!

This fragrance reminds me a lot of a great affordable and unique perfume by Tous. Les colognes concentree has the same aroma of “frozen woods” like walking through a magical and relaxing enchanted forest covered with snow......White Hinioki obviously has much better quality and proyection/ longevity.

This is a beautiful , zen fragrance. Smells like you’re at a spa with an outdoor shower. Wouldn’t wear the fragrance but I spray my home and pillows at night with this.

If it's hinoki you're interested in, skip this one altogether and grab Scent One: Hinoki by Comme des Garcons. It's superior to this in every way.

Very beautiful feminine scent..fell in love instantly. Ginger and cinnamon very prominent. Get it if you can.

How come Himalayan Woods hasn't been added yet?!

I don't have real life experience with Hinoki wood so I'm going to refrain from writing like I do. Without relying too much on the notes here, what I get is a lemony sweet floral aroma mixed with a whiskey/alcohol-type smell and both engulfed by a slightly medicinal scent (similar to Vicks vapor rub). I know, it sounds thick and heavy but it's not - all this is done in an airy, fresh way that can easily be pulled off in spring and summer. Very unique scent, to me. Not sure how I feel about getting a full bottle but I do appreciate its uniqueness...and I do like "different" or unique fragrances but I guess White Hinoki is just not my kind of "different". I don't really notice the ginger, blood orange or tobacco at all really...unless they are all blended in to create something unrecognizable. Performance is adequate, no complaints from me...I'd say this is unisex leaning slightly masculine. Lastly, I'd classify this as a linear scent - not much change or development after initial minutes.

White Hinoki is a little sweet, vibrantly aromatic and gently woody - like crushing a fistful of spring pine needles while incense is burning one room away. The opening reminds me of Dettol or pine tar soap in that pine-disinfectant way which strangely enough I don't mind at all. This mellows to a snuffable savoury, woody base. Projection is high-moderate, sillage is moderate. Longevity is good, about 6 hours.

This truly does smell like a spa of some sort. However, it’s a rather feminine leaning fragrance and I’m not sure if I would reach for this one over others in my collection. Edit: Overall, I would say that this is a nice scent and a job well done. I would also describe it as a very unique transportive fragrance.

Best way I can describe this scent: Imagine the cleanest looking white tile you have ever seen, no blemishes, no issues with the grout. That's exactly what this smells like. Opening can be a bit "cleaner material" like, but after that probably the most under-rated spring/summer fragrance. It just smells clean.

Didnt take long to realise ive smelt this before and it was Xerjoff 40 knots. This is probably identical to 40 knots, I can barely smell a difference. Worth sampling both if you love this type of Fragrance as there is probably a $100+ difference between the two.

More aromatic and herbal to my nose rather than woody or spicy. As others said, very spa like. Original. Unisex leaning masculine. Clean vibes but herbal too and I get the resins from the labdanm as I am quite sensitive to resins.

Its a very strong citrus opener but the dry down is a very gentle wood. Good silliage.

This is definitely a woody fragrance, however, this is a light or a blonde wood, this is not dark or heavy. In the opening I immediately got wood and I also got a light/bright incense, along with some ginger. There is a citrus top note, but I only get that a little bit. As it develops, the pepper note comes out more, and for me the pepper is rather prominent. I noticed that some reviews said that this was feminine, but I disagree, I think this is a straight up unisex fragrance. I don’t really pick up the whiskey, tobacco, cinnamon, or heliotrope. However, it is a very well blended fragrance and that could be why I don’t detect those individual notes.

i don't find it feminine and not so citrusy, really. this is a boozy tobacco with the woods upfront. the hinoki note should have been more refined, but i find the blend to be generic. there are better out there. 5/10

I think comparisons of this scent to an upscale spa is bang-on. This scent is clean, calming, and naturalistic. Slightly feminine leaning. Lasts all day and if you like the scent of hinoki, this is one of the best. I often wear it after a shower or to bed. For me, this scent recalls a childhood memory of a Japanese drugstore bath bomb “babu” and my “oba-chan” (grandma). I think it was either the blue-green one or the bright green one that reminds me of this scent. We often spent summers staying in Japan to spend time with my mom's family. As a kid, I loved bath time and my sister and we would always argue to decide who would have the “honour” of filling the tub and then who would get to hold the babu while it bubbled away while colouring the water and releasing its scent. For some reason, my very frugal and strict/harsh oba-chan who never bought anything superfluous would always make sure that we had babu for all of our baths but would simultaneously complain about the cost and how much work we were. She is 90 years old now and I am approaching 40, but she still remembers my love of baths and buys a box of babu for me on my rare visits even though the magic of that coloured puck waned long ago. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that this scent reminds me of my very sweet and contrarian oba-chan and it brings a smile to my face. I am grateful for the scent memory and the feelings it evokes.

This is a beautiful feminin scent, I wouldn't personally like it on a man, but that's just me. Its very Smokey, spicy, and gingery to begin with, then sort of dries down to a lovely soft, blood orange, with a soft ginger after scent. I always read the comments on this site so bought it blind, and I'm very happy I did as I love different kinds of scents, as the normal ones all seem to smell the same and last two seconds. This so far has been on my wrist for two hours and I can still get a lovely aroma.
