Poem A Day

I've been waiting for this perfume to get uploaded here so I can finally unleash the inner TED-talk I've prepared for this perfume so, ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, let us indulge in this fragrance! "& other stories" was a store I passed by quite a lot whenever I was in Stephanplatz in Vienna as I believed it was over my budget but my friend told me a sentence that I am sure of everybody here LOVES to here. "... they have a perfume line." So you would be correct to guess I was at their doorstep at once. As a self-proclaimed vanilla enthusiast, you best believe I launched myself onto "Poem a day" as soon as I read the notes on the card provided in the store. The color of the golden liquid had already promised me some warmth and I was in fact, correct. Opening: At first, your nose gets acquainted with a balanced mixture of pistachio caramelized in vanilla paste, and to my surprise, without the marzipan smell which I loathe and always seem to find in pistachio perfumes! So kudos to that! Though it is in importance to add, this perfume is one of those fragrances that needs to be oxidized before use as I believe the notes sink more "in" and mature. When freshly bought, there is a slight artificial smell that I cannot detect that irritates my nose a little bit -I am assuming the leather note since I am fairly new to exploring that spectrum of notes-. Settling in: On my skin, the pistachio evaporates at some point, leaving vanilla "skin" the monarch, having caramel as the vice president. I do not know where the coconut water and orchid came from, as they are not present -or strong enough to appear as their own- but they might the one to give the vanilla a twist as this is nothing like the vanillas I've own. It gives off very much old cafe you would find at a corner with vintage decoration: Vanilla with slight hints of chai in the air, decorated with leather chairs; comforting, warm and different. Remaining: The residue on the skin is a gentle vanilla that works with the suede, giving off a second skin like vanilla which some might not enjoy as the leathery skin note is very hard to look past by. I enjoy it quite a lot whereas my friend tells me it annoys her, but hey, who is the unprofessional perfumist here, right? Overall: A good twist on vanilla that opens a new spectrum. Not very gourmand forward, but strong and long-lasting vanilla haze!

I have the perfume oil version of this, it's such a beautiful subtle vanilla scent. Almost like a cold type of vanilla, it's like a scoop of sweet vanilla ice cream with some crushed pistachios springled over it. But it's not sickly sweet, the scent sits close to the skin. I love to put this on when I want something but don't want to smell like perfume if that makes sense!

I am absolutely heartbroken that they discontinued this. It was a simple and light vanilla with the perfect amount of edible notes without being too sweet. I have never found a vanilla perfume like this, since I often find vanilla perfumes too warm and spicy or cloying. It used to be my signature scent, and it has been one of my most complimented fragrances.

I absolutely adore this. It’s so soft and ethereal.

Heyyy, it’s finally listed! This is my go-to inexpensive, easygoing vanilla. It’s not going to change your life, but it’s great for layering. Nice option for spring and summer, as it’s light. The bottle shape is cute and vintage-y (though the label stains easily - I have peeled mine off), and the name is appealing. At this price point she’s a little gem, and I’ll probably repurchase as long as they make it. If you like lighter vanillas like Eau Duelle, worth checking out. Not a dupe, just a similar soft romantic vibe. Comparing to Perle de Coco, I would say it’s airier, less creamy. Sparkling, even. Cream soda, not crème brûlée. Soft, sweet, plays well with others.
