Magma

Just recently went fragrance shopping in Brooklyn and stumbled across this one in Stelé’s Williamsburg location. After about 40 “oh yea, thats pleasant”’s, this one moved me. I hate rose. Im not particularly into Saffron. And I only like incense on some occasions. I still cant even believe I like this one as much as I do. Okay so smell wise, this is Adonis Awakens but instead of classy elegant hotel soap this is the top floor honeymoon suite. It’s smoky, spicy and seductive rather than fresh, clean and elegant. The rose, lemon, and patch add this crisp airy facet while the smoke and spices bring in a darkness. Hence, “Magma”. The contrast of airy and fresh with dark smoke and rich resins made me audibly go WOW in the middle of a packed perfume store. Not everyone will have the same experience with this one. I saw someone say it was no different to any designer fragrance with how synthetic it was. Its even compared to BDC on here which I think is horse sh-. But art is subjective and everyone’s nose is different. A great signature that works Fall-Spring for anyone that has a mysterious aura to them. Or at least want to pretend they do. Plus how fkn cool is it that when someone asks you what fragrance you are wearing you get to reply with “hot molten lava rock”. Thats pretty badass if you ask me. This was one of the several offerings I enjoyed from Andrea Maack. I also really liked Jest, Zing, Supernova, and Lightsource from what I remember. Banging house. Icicle Approved

very underrated on here for some reason. Yes, there is an initial citric and peppery smell, but the lemon is quickly buried in warm and complex smoke. Deep within is a subtle note of suede and a charcoal rose, which appears faintly now and then to add depth to the composition. Profits a lot from letting it sit on your skin for a bit and not judging it right from the start, which feels a bit misleading to me. also I noticed that this scent goes incredibly well with cigarette smoke, as if it absorbs it and makes it part of itself. Even after spending the entire night in a smoker's bar, people still complimented me.

The rose & lemon are so strong on this one that they kinda ruin it. I want something hot and spicy, and the rose/lemon combo is more 'ladies at tea' than red-hot magma. Rose-lemon always pulls bitter and mature/vintage in an unflattering way on my skin. If I get a tester that comes in its' own paper box, I always spritz a pump into the box to get a more objective read on the dry down w/o skin chem in the mix. Here the rose/lemon completely fade and I'm left with a deep dark spiced mahogany wood, and I love it. Sadly, on my wrist this is so VERY floral and lemony. Rose-lemon has to be one of my least favorite combinations. The citrus always turns the rose bitter and overly perfumey. It's giving bathroom poopurri. Also finding that Magma has surprisingly poor performance (for such a resinous and dark scent), my skin seems to eat it up. Or maybe it can't compete with the Tibetan incense I burn.

Reviewing a sample from 2024. Magma was launched in 2022. Magma is powerful, warm and spicy as you might expect. It opens with black pepper and barely detectable citrus. The incense, myrrh and are subtle adding depth just a hint of smoke. The rose peeks through over time. I would not consider this a rose scent as it is dominated by the clean patchouli. Suede and saffron become more noticeable in the dry down. Minimal sweetness. Quality- very good- slightly synthetic undertones making this a bit sharp but enhancing performance which is very good. Unisex- leans slightly masculine Performance -excellent A sultry spicy patchouli fragrance to keep you warm on winter evenings. One of the nicest creations from Andrea Maack of those I have tried so far. 7/10

I didn't think I'd like this as much as I do! It's not the most complex scent but super easy to wear and I really enjoy the experience of smelling it throughout the day. Simple, easy, smells great and isn't difficult or funky in any way. Lasts a really long time on clothes. The name magma is kind of misleading because it sounds really metal and intense but is honestly kind of feminine and delicate, or at least as much as leather and spices can be delicate. I don't usually like lemon notes because they can go kind of floor cleaner but this definitely does not, more like a candied citrus but not overly sweet. Full size is kind of expensive but considering it!

I had high expectations for this based on the name and notes. The ingredients suggest a warm, smoky fragrance, but in reality, it’s a simple sweet and citrusy scent. While I can pick up the rose, lemon, tonka bean, I find no traces of the promised incense, myrrh, or suede. Very basic smell, this is a no for me.

Quite sweet, more so than I expected. Leans much more masculine.

Just straight up strong, alcoholic aftershave. :( I had such high hopes for this but I find myself recoiling when I sniff it.

A masculine scent—spicy, with a chemical smoky vibe! I don’t like amber!
