Kanat

Kanat is the scent that first sucked me into the world of Angela Ciampagna. It has a strong aquatic aspect, but I didn't even notice it first. Strange how certain flowers like mimosa, magnolia and cyclamen create the feeling of transparency, of clear floral liquidness, as if growing near a salty lake in the shadows of old trees. I somehow link this sweet floral haze to childhood the same way roses and tuberoses are linked to maturity. And there's something clearly nostalgic about the rest - a combination of wet stone, saffron and musk. At the risk of sounding too abstract, it evokes an emotion by creating space for it, a place that was there before you and will be there after you're gone. Nox is similar, but with a woody aspect instead of the floral.

I agree whith those Who say that this is a LOVE & hate perfume but for me because of a different reason. I LOVE the smell, It is powdery, elegant, a bit sweet and very salty. I see It as a mix between wood Sage & sea salt by jo Malone and a bit fríos if Bois d'oud by perris Montecarlo, with this papery dirty and fruity vibe. But i think that this fragrance has an issue with the performance, which on my skin is more like JM fragances than like perris Montecarlo o es.anyway this is a nice perfume for estoy time on summer that i would buy if It would perform just a little bit better. The opening is saline and at some points smells downright like salt mixed with toothpaste. Also, metallic. The dry down is wonderfully salty and floral. This scent is perfect for humid summers by the beach. A great balance of aquatic, salty, floral, slightly sweet with a touch of musk and vanilla, and that metallic thing lingering in the background to add interest. I'd say this is a unisex-feminine leaning scent. Kanat really just smells like warm, salty air blowing against your face as you lounge on the beach (Punalu'u, Big Island, Hawaii, maybe). I love how solar and sunkissed this scent smells, mixed with salt and a subtle sunscreen quality. Scents that Kanat reminds me of: - Armani Prive Bleu Turquoise (Kanat is way less sweet and vanillic, more salty) - Amouage Beach Hut W (Kanat is less minerally and less like floating driftwood, more feminine) - Phaedon Sable & Soleil (Kanat is less floral, less sweet, less tropical, but is similarly aquatic and still has florals)

Kanat is a pleasant salty white floral and I would seriously take this further if this was a combo I went for. Slight metallic-aldehydic components blended with a L’Artisan ‘salt’ accord, but for me it defeminises white floral enough to make it appeal to folks (both sides of the gender divide/spectrum) who are put off by white florals. Not enough for me, though, however I did really enjoy experiencing something different to the regular stuff I sniff...

Kanat begins with black currant and saffron that is nice enough. I did get a bit of a metal vibe that someone(s) else mentioned below, but I seem to get that with black currant, typically. Upon closer inspection of this fragrance, I found that the heart of this is virtually the same thing as the opening notes of Nox, which seemed at least minimally strange to me. It’s a salty, slightly alcoholic, ylang-ylang mix. It’s nice enough, nothing that would blow your socks off. The dry down is also fairly uneventful, a vanilla, salty musk. Overall I enjoy several of this creator’s fragrances, but felt this one to be rather blase - especially seeing the similarity of note scheme with Nox. I much preferred that fragrance to this one. Projection and sillage are also fairly weak or below average. Definitely wouldn’t purchase given the price, but some might really like this.

I'm totally smitten with the opening of Kanat — it almost smells like a sheet of metal crossed with nail polish remover. It’s so utterly strange, yet not unpleasant in the slightest. My guess is that it’s the cassis that's responsible — a material which, if not handled right, imparts an obnoxious cat pee effect. It’s so well managed here, though. Within minutes, it begins to smell more recognizably botanical and earthy with a fuzzy peach that sits perfectly in the blend. While it’s hard to pinpoint what the florals are (jasmine?), they’re present and definitely floral. The opening is seriously one of the most attention-getting things I’ve smelled in some time. The disappointing part of this scent, though, is that the amazing opening sequence is strung over a mediocre vanilla base that shows up all too soon. Although it’s not a bad base unto itself, it just doesn’t convey any of the brilliance of the opening, and it ends up smelling too much like ice cream. Personally, I think a watery, earthy base would have suited this more, but I suspect the vanilla makes this easier for people to handle and gives more support where support is needed. The result though, is that the scent has the strangest transitional phases that simply don't make sense. Whereas others in the line remind me considerably of Rania J, this one reminds me a great deal of the style you find in Soivohle — acrobatic transitions and really inventive combinations. In fact, as Kanat winds its way down to the base, it smells a bit like Soivohle’s Dog Star — which has a distinct vanilla ice cream feel to it as well. This is worth smelling for the opening alone, and even though I found the base to be a let down, it’s still a solid base to have. If nothing else, Kanat a testament to what this perfumer can do and the kind of ideas she's putting out there.

It's like a double faced sword! it has something SUPERB in it and something DISTURBING! ... the good side is the amazing apricot peachy sweet note mingled with magnolia and floral, as the bad side is the cheap musk. The quality of the musk is quite cheap and gives the dirty artificial smell so it swings between good and bad. After all i kind of like it and dislike it at the same time, maybe it needs more time. Edit (21 Feb 2021) I think what i have mentioned 5 years ago is true! the notes are saying something amazing while the truth is the balanced makes it quite bitter, with chaotic mix! i don't know what Angela is seeing in this blend or in general with her blends! i mean most of her blends are quite bitter and mixed weirdly in away that makes it confusing! i don't mean that her blends should be commonly accept it or similar to something else or even easy to wear but at least i need to understand what is she doing or seeing in her blends! like this one in here for instance, i get overdosed bitter musk mixed with waterlily, salt, magnolia, mimosa, ylang, hints of bitter saffron, and cyclamen, and i don't detect apricots, apricots, black current, peach, or anything clearly as fruits! i feel it's there but i barely can detect anything! all i get is the bitter sour white floral. I don't see this one interesting.

Kanat is quite a nostalgic fragrance in my personal experience. I'm probably completely off here but upon application, I can't help it from being immediately teleported to when I was a kid in school and, more precisely, the smell of Coccoina. A kid-safe and extremely popular italian glue which had a fantastic and quite unmistakeable almondy smell. Now, given the notes disclosed, the only thing that could make me remotely think of almonds is probably acacia but it might still be kind of a stretch. Anyway, Coccoina and those days spent cutting images from magazines for doing collages. The warmth of mid-may sun, long days of light and a sense trepidation for the incoming vacations. Kanat is all of that for me. It's an evocation of my childhood. Beside Coccoina, I smell smooth florals, a hint of medicinal saffron and a soft white musky / vanillic base. Not a fragrance I'm crazy for but if you're drawn to light florals with a twist, give this a chance. As with most other fragrances in this line, Kanat never feels cheap or even rushed and it's pretty original too without going necessarily for the weird route. Rating: 6.5-7/10

Was not sure what to expect when I saw salt without the usual sea notes, I was thinking seaweedy. And indeed it is a bit seaweed, a bit secretions magnifique, mineral. But it's not disturbing to my nose, just very ununsual. Getting a lot of florals and some powderiness too, nothing really distinct but if I had to pick something based on all those florals listed probably most mimosa. Not much fruit or patch. Ha,Alfarom spot on again.I don't feel crazy anymore because glue it's what I smelled too,along with a very soft,worn suede impression.It smelled like the interior of an old handbag that maybe was recently repaired so it still bears a hint of the adhesives used.Musky vanillic drydown.I thought was intriguing and interesting and much preferred it to Ducalis for example,which is completely derivative in my view.

I couldn’t smell much else but salt. May be no noise or skin.
