Ismail Efendi - The Rose Bandit

A rose is a rose is a rose....until you let loose a perfumer with an independent mind to start playing around with it. This is NOT your Grandma's rose fragrance. It's full and juicy and sits proudly on a fragrant base of musk, and an earthiness that I JUST COULDN'T quite pick apart. I didn't get the patch or cedar, just a final full round earthy drydown that is so satisfying. A whiff of spice keeps it all interesting and wondering what THAT was (I had to look - I think the addition of carnation is inspired). Oh, and did I mention the rose? Yeah - he may have been a bandit but he had good taste in blooms. This one had me puzzled - I simply couldn't untangle it without looking up the notes. Ismail was not only a thief, but a master of disguise. I purchased my sample and the contents and opinions are mine.

The fragrance begins with the rough, deep green note of oregano leaves, transitioning into a raspberry rose with a musky ambergris undertone. The sweetness of the raspberry and rose is intense, hiding the spicy aromatic green note, and is further deepened by the heavy patchouli which make the scent dark and dense. If you pick up on the raspberry and rose, it might seem pretty feminine. But once you catch the musky ambergris, the spicy greenery, and the weighty patchouli, the fragrance totally flips and starts to feel more bold and masculine. A quirky and interesting take on raspberry rose.

A fruity, jammy rose... this still stands out in the sea of rose-dominant fragrances and beats many that are priced higher. Rich, voluptuous, with bomb sillage and great longevity. It is a shapeshifter as well, sometimes the raspberry shines, sometimes it's loukhum, sometimes takes an aromatic turn, nonetheless, the quality rose is always there, the real stuff. I'd say it is a must-have for any rose lover. Once my Armani Rose d' Arabie runs out, I'll go for this one. Not that they are much similar, but similarly big, and luscious in style. f you wish to have a more enticing take on rose and share it with your immediate environment, this is a good one to go for. Seductive rose!

I respect Ali Erkekli' work but honestly Nothing groundbreaking with this one, its just a musky rose fragrance with saffron. This blend is EXTREMELY common in the middle east you literally smell it everywhere and its considered one of those affordable perfumes that everybody wears. This one definitely have that Middle Eastern rose Oud vibe and I have smelled this kind of blends before with Ajmal or any other brands from Middle East.Rose and saffron is the key components here.I can definitely say a male can pull this off as it’s not overly feminine by any chance.Also wondering how much natural materials he used in this blend.Its not your typical Jammy rose rather its a spicy rose.There is also some underlying sweetness.

Bought that one for 100€, because I saw people's reactions in Fragrantica and I have expected a jammy rose. Not impressed at all!!! It is a good feminine perfume. Nothing WOW. DO NOT spend your money if U haven't tried it. Or may be in a sunny day it will surprise me. Who knows?

This starts like sugary sweet liquidised Haribo. It’s ultra feminine and so sweet. The rose is at odds with the overpowering red fruits. Eventually the rose comes through in the dry-down but the entire fragrance remains too fruity-Haribo-sweet for me.

Definitely a very unique take on rose! I had to smell it for a good minute to make sense of what I'm smelling exactly, and why it's so familiar. Rose isn't super dominant, and I don't get any berries. I came to the conclusion that the oregano and lavender really add the uniqueness and wow factor here, because mostly it's herbal, but sweet, and oriental at the same time. It smells like on of those fancy floral shops where there is fresh lavender and roses and herby greens. A touch minty as well. Well done for uniqueness, not seen oregano in rose frags before. Dries down to an earthy dusty herbal musk. Eureka! Chyrpe du Nil is what it reminds me of. The wormwood gives it an earthy, herbal tone that is vey similar, however not as sweet. And perhaps nin-shar as well without the heady patch (just retested)

Tart rose, mango sorbet, amber, powdery white musk, lactonic notes and plum. Very feminine leaning and ridiculously strong opening. Hard to discern notes one by one without being overwhelmed. Way too much 'commercial niche' for me. One for the lovers of beastly, fruity gourmands.
